Jobs/VacanciesRe: Fir And Pine by temilaw25: 3:01pm On Feb 23, 2010
I have been trying to get some facts about this company. A click on all partners link on this site virtually takes you back to the same site.

There is also a reference to a mcconnell.com site when you try to reach arcpace.co.uk. which does not seem to have any connection with FIR&PINE.
A web search on all partner companies does not give any reasonable result. I am just trying to satisfy my curiosity with my search as I also got an invitation for the Test. Like someone asked there appears to be no office address in all of there locations.
I strongly believe we need to be careful even in our desperation for an employment.
EducationWhat Is The Future Of The Nigerian Educational System? by temilaw25(op): 1:50pm On Feb 04, 2010
Gone are the days Nigerian universities used to be the pride of Africa but that is history now. Even more painful is the the realization that the future is bleek if nothing is done to protect the future.
Sometimes last year it was said that 23 million of the 40 million able bodied men/women in the country lack the required/necessary skill and qualifications for employment. This however, is a statement of fact with the chaotic educational system in the country where youths are hardly ever prepared for the challenges of the labour market.

There is hardly ever a smooth academic year without a strike which ends up putting students at home for months while waiting for classes to resume.
More-so, some irrelevant courses that have no correlation with modern economy are still being taught in our universities and some lecturers still use the same lecture notes they 've been using for the past 40+yrs to lecture.

Some of our grey haired university professors are dieing with their wisdom and young graduates hardly ever see the educational environment as an option to take up teaching jobs because there are no incentives to motivate even the few ones that wouldn't mind teaching. One begins to wonder how soon we will run out of professors in our universities as we are not planning for the future.

There are proliferation of private universities everywhere most of which are owned by serving and ex-politicians, primary schools now pay as high as over 100K per student, churches now own schools and universities that majority of the members can not afford to send their wards. If the missionaries of the past years had established schools for profit gains most of the beneficiaries probably would have been illiterates and majority of them are our present elites.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Employers Or Slave Drivers? by temilaw25: 2:27pm On Apr 02, 2009
It is really a pathetic situation, and unfortunately there's very little an employee can do about it. If you think your job is annoying and you are being underpaid by your employer, there are a thousand and one other job seekers out there that are ready to take the same job for a lesser pay just to have a place to go in the morning.
Maybe the reverse would have been the case if our academic system is tailored towards being an entrepreneur rather than job seekers. It is not uncommon that you will find a man of 35yrs still cohabiting with his parents in this part of the world. Not that he doesn't have a job, but that his salary is too tight for him to tithe, not to mention getting an apartment of his own.
To rent a fairly comfortable flat in Lagos, you would need nothing less than half a million this probably more than an average graduate's annual salary.
ComputersRe: Calling Systems Administrators - Our Own Thread? by temilaw25: 12:10pm On Jan 29, 2009

ComputersRe: Calling Systems Administrators - Our Own Thread? by temilaw25: 11:11am On Jan 23, 2009
This seems to be an interesting thread and i hope we all get to learn something new and also share our ideas as regards our day-to-day challenges on our job.
@Xanadu
Just an addition to bigrovar's contribution on the WSUS, another reason you would want to implement a central update service is as a result of limited bandwidth. You wouldn't want all your client ystems connecting directly to the internet for daily update as this will definitely choke your bandwidth and make you constatntly yarn for bandwidth upgrade from your service provider.

Setting up AD in windows 2003 environment can be quite straight forward, and i don't think getting your hands dirty on windows environment would be much of a problem to you with your background in Linux.
It wouldn't be a bad idea for us to develop a step by step guide on different topics using this forum. I am particularly interested in learning linux. I would appreciate any more contributions from you as regards a quick to getting into Linux CLI.
