Foreign Affairs / Mass Child Sacrifice Site Reveals Its Horrific Secrets by temitemi1(m): 9:33am On Mar 09, 2019
Experts have revealed the gruesome details of a 15th-century ritual sacrifice site in Peru that contains the remains of more than 140 children.

In a new study on the archaeological site at Huanchaquito-Las Llamas, archaeologists explain that the children’s hearts were apparently ripped from their bodies. The grisly location, which is near the UNESCO world heritage site of Chan Chan, is the largest known mass sacrifice site of children in the Americas, they say.

The remains of over 200 llamas, or possibly alpacas, were also discovered across an area spanning more than 7,000 square feet. “Cut marks transecting the sternums and displaced ribs suggest both the children and llamas may have had their chests cut open, possibly during ritual removal of the heart,” scientists explain, in a statement. Analysis of the human remains reveals that they were boys and girls aged between 5 and 14.

An international team of researchers led by Gabriel Prieto of the National University of Trujillo compiled details of excavations conducted between 2011 and 2016. Their findings are published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Radiocarbon dating indicates that the remains are from around 1450 A.D., a time when Huanchaquito-Las Llamas was part of the Chimu culture. “A thick layer of mud overlaying the burial sediments indicates that this mass killing was preceded, and perhaps inspired, by a major rainstorm or flood,” they explain in the statement.

Experts were stunned to find such a huge mass sacrifice site in northern coastal Peru, some 350 miles north of Lima.

"This archaeological discovery was a surprise to all of us — we had not seen anything like this before …” said Tulane University Anthropology Professor John Verano, who is one of the study’s authors, in a statement. “This site opens a new chapter on the practice of child sacrifice in the ancient world."

The researchers note that the ritual sacrifice was “a large investment of resources for the Chimu culture” and hope to reveal more details about the sacrificed children.

Other grisly sacrificial sites have been revealing their secrets. A vast array of skulls buried beneath the streets of modern Mexico City, for example, have offered a chilling glimpse into Aztec human sacrifice.

LiveScience reports that hundreds of Mayan artifacts that may have been used in ritual animal sacrifices have been discovered at the bottom of a Guatemalan lake.

Foreign Affairs / West Virginia Firefighters Find Untouched Bibles In Church Fire by temitemi1(m): 1:45pm On Mar 05, 2019
A church fire in West Virginia left firefighters stunned when they found Bibles untouched by the flames.

Early Sunday morning, the Coal City Fire Department responded to a fire at the Freedom Ministries Church in Grandview, a town in the mountains of West Virginia.

"Picture this, a building so hot that at one point in time, firefighters had to back out," the fire department wrote on Facebook. "In your mind, everything should be burned, ashes."

But the firefighters said not a single Bible was burned. Not a single cross was harmed. Not a single firefighter was hurt.

"Though odds were against us, God was not," the firefighters said, offering prayers for the pastor and congregation.

And in a Facebook post, Freedom Ministries wrote that "in the midst of the smoke you can see Jesus. He was there with us!"

The congregation views it as a time to rally together and give back.

"We will fight the enemy and not let him hold us down," they wrote.

The church is asking for prayer for Pastor Phil and Candice Farrington, whom they say have always given them love and support.

"Now it's our turn to return it back to them!"

Breaking: PDP stages massive protest to INEC Office in Yenagoa over the commission’s acceptance of fake results from Nembe/Bassambiri, and part of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Thousands of youths have taken to the streets in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, to protest alleged election malpractices in the recently concluded presidential and national elections.

The youths had gathered at the Peace Park opposite the Government House before marching to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office on Swale road.

However, they were stopped at the Imgbi roundabout leading to INEC office by security operatives comprising policemen and soldiers.

About four armoured vehicles were stationed at the Imgbi roundabout. Placards by the youths read messages about ballot snatching and election fraud.

No wonder the guy dey bad mouth buhari everywhere grin
Politics / Magnus Abe: A Doctor Revived Amaechi When Buhari Picked Osinbajo In 2014 by temitemi1(m): 1:33pm On Feb 21, 2019
Magnus Abe, lawmaker representing Rivers south-east senatorial district, says Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, suffered a shock when President Muhammadu Buhari picked Yemi Osinbanjo as his running mate in 2014.

Reacting to reports that he fell ill after Dakuku Peterside emerged gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers in 2015, Abe said it was Amaechi who had such experience.

The senator said he does not owe Amaechi the kind of “unquestioning obedience” that the minister is demanding.

Taunting Amaechi, the senator said he neither lived in his boys quarters nor worked as his aide.

Peter Odili, a former governor of Rivers, was the one who brought Amaechi into limelight. The minister worked as his aide.

“He (Amaechi) will remember that when Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was announced as Vice Presidential candidate of the APC, he went into shock and a Doctor had to be brought in to treat him,” he said.

“He was placed on a drip all night to stabilise him. That was why he assumed that I would have also required medication. We all react differently to shock… our political partnership started at the Rivers state house of assembly to which I sponsored myself but he was sponsored by Dr. Peter Odili. So I do not owe him the kind of loyalty that he owes Dr. Odili. How well he has discharged that loyalty in the face of power is between him, Dr. Odili and God.”

Abe said he never went to Amaechi to beg him for any job, taunting Amaechi not to be “so childish in his determination to stop him from contesting governorship election.

Abe added that the minister has no right to stop him from aspiring to the position.

He said after Amaechi reached an agreement that the Ogoni people would produce a governor, he turned around to block his aspiration.

“Nigerians are aware that Mr. Amaechi has been calling me names for the past two years and in keeping with my personal values and upbringing, I have refrained from joining issues with him in the public domain,” he said.

“However, it has become imperative that I set the records straight on the issues raised by the minister so that Nigerians will know the truth.

“Let me again place on record that it was the same Amaechi who called the entire leadership of the Ogoni Nation to several meetings to promise the Ogoni people the same Governorship for the same reason.

“All spectrum of the Ogoni including the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, MOSOP, KAGOTE, the Church Leaders Council, the Academia are all aware of the Minister’s commitment.

“Let me repeat once again that I was elected Minority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly by members of the minority caucus of the house. I was appointed Commissioner of Information by Dr. Peter Odili. Dr. Odili himself called me after my appointment and told me in the presence of two witnesses (then deputy Governor and SSG) that my appointment was one he made by himself out of conviction that I would do well and he was not influenced by anyone in giving me that appointment.

“I am glad Dr. Peter Odili is alive and he is in a better position than myself to discuss Mr. Amaechi’s loyalty.

“Yes, the Minister as Governor appointed me as SSG and supported me to go to the senate. I thank him for the privilege, but I did not lobby for the job. I served with total commitment and discharged my responsibilities faithfully and to the best of my ability.

“Most importantly, none of this was done on the precondition that I would not attempt to be governor. I really must appeal to the minister to take it easy. All is too transient in life to harbour so much pettiness and hatred.”

David Iyiofor, spokesman of Amaechi, was not available for comment, when this report was filed.

What it is wrong with this man called Buhari undecided
Politics / Buhari To Merkel: Illegal Nigerian Immigrants ‘at Their Own Risk’ by temitemi1(m): 4:09pm On Aug 31, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has publicly told visiting German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, his government does not support Nigerians trying to illegally enter Europe, saying those caught would be “at his or her own risk”.

The president said “Any Nigerian found in Libya or anywhere on his way to Europe through illegal means will be brought home and we will send him back to the local government.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday morning arrived Nigeria and was received by Mr Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Mrs Merkel’s visit to Nigeria marks the final part of her three-day trip to West Africa countries: Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria with a focus on strengthening economic development and containing illegal migration.

Her visit comes two days after the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, visited the country with plans to increase trade and investment between Nigeria and the UK.

President Buhari, who welcomed the German Chancellor at the forecourt of the presidential villa, introduced some members of his cabinet and presidential aides to his visitor before going into closed door meeting to deliberate on issues of mutual interest to both Nigeria and Germany.

After the closed door meeting, both leaders addressed the press briefly.

During the briefing, Mrs Merkel tasked Mr Buhari to ensure a free, credible and fair election in the fourth coming 2019 polls.

“I appeal that the fourth coming elections in Nigeria should be free, fair and credible. It should not result to chaos or complete breakdown of law and order. A credible election is an important aspect of democracy and good governance,” she said.

The German leader said she was aware that Nigeria is facing many security challenges.

“We are aware of it and that is why we are co-hosting the great Chad conference with Nigeria to address these issues,” she said.

Mrs Merkel said there are plans to increase the number of Nigerians studying in Germany. “About 1200 Nigerian students are studying in my country, we are making plans to increase that number.”

She touched on boosting Nigeria’s power generation capacity.

“There is one project that hasn’t been finished yet, it is about the sugar plant, where we are trying to be able to switch energy production from electric supplies to bio-waste. We could open up new sources, we have entrepreneurs in our delegations that can make offers in the field of wind energy. What is important for us is that we have efficient in transmission systems.

“There is one company that I told the president about and we are happy that we are able to examine the context that identifies leakages in the pipelines.

“We are operating in a great number of areas with the Nigerian side especially with the field of energy. Germany is more than happy and even more than ready to work with Nigeria in this regard.”

On business and economy the chancellor said she would be focusing on boosting small businesses in the three African countries she visited.

In his speech, Mr Buhari laid more emphasis on illegal migration. He said his administration is strongly against it.

“I guess many of my country men and women illegally struggle to find their way to European countries through the deserts and the Mediterranean because they feel there are greener pastures there whether they are prepared for it or not. As an administration, we are not in support of it.

“About three weeks ago, we repatriated 3,000 Nigerians from Libya. They want to travel to Europe illegally. We do not support this and anybody caught is at his or her own risk.

“Any Nigerian found in Libya or anywhere on his way to Europe through illegal means will be brought home and we will send him back to the local government.”

Migrant arrivals in Europe across the Mediterranean from Africa and Turkey are at their lowest level in five years, but the issue remains sensitive.

Mrs Merkel, who refused to close Germany’s borders at the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, has toughened her stance recently to salvage her government from a rift over the issue.

No fewer than 10,000 Nigerians have died between January and May 2017 while trying to illegally migrate through the Mediterranean Sea and the deserts, the Nigeria Immigration Service said last year.

Some in Europe hope that investing more in West Africa will help keep people in a region plagued with unemployment, dodgy infrastructure, rising extremism and now the effects of climate change from leaving.

Trump: Buhari Has Caused our Nation International Embarrassment

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says President Muhammadu Buhari and his handlers have opened our nation for international ridicule arising from reports quoting United States President, Donald Trump, describing President Buhari as “lifeless”.

The party said such embarrassment is a backlash a nation gets when incompetent leaders, out of inferiority complex, resort to jumping around the world, desperately shopping for endorsement from world leaders.

The party says President Buhari has been seeking international recognitions that are not predicated on any achievements from his three years in office.

PDP hereby charges Mr. President to take a cue from the comments ascribed to President Trump by settling down at home and discharge his responsibilities to Nigerians or humbly accept his failings.

While the PDP has strong reservations on the reported comment by President Trump, for which we demand a response from the Buhari Presidency and the US White House, the party further holds that had our dear President not cheapened the exalted office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by his woeful outing during his visit to the United States, President Trump would not have had the opportunity to assess his level of incompetence and make such an embarrassing statement about our President.

The PDP and indeed all well-meaning Nigerians are now sore worry over how other world leaders have been perceiving our President, who has not only failed in governance but has continued to demarket our nation in the international community.

The PDP however urges Nigerians not to be downcast by the embarrassing situation the nation has found itself, especially as the 2019 general election, which comes in the next six months, offers the nation the ample opportunity to get it right on the choice of competent leadership Nigerians can be proud of.

Politics / Report: Trump Said He Never Wants To Meet Someone As Lifeless As Buhari by temitemi1(m): 10:30am On Aug 27, 2018
President Donald Trump of the United States referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as lifeless after both leaders met in April, according to Financial Times.

The visit of the Nigerian leader to his US counterpart was celebrated by the presidency and supporters of Buhari.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, had said the visit to US was an endorsement of the current administration by the American government.

“No matter how Nigerians take our own country, this is hugely an important country and this recognition is being manifested in this visit,” he had said.

On his part, Lai Mohammed, minister of information, had described the visit as a sign of the growing cooperation between the US and Nigeria.

“He (Buhari) is the president of the most populous country in Africa, the president of the country with the largest economy in Africa. And I think it’s probably the fact that the world is now understanding that Nigeria is very strategic not just to the sub-region but the entire Africa,” Mohammed had said.

At a press briefing held after the bilateral meeting, Trump said he would love to visit Nigeria which he described as one of the most beautiful places on earth.

He also commended Buhari for the war against insurgency and the fight against corruption.

“Nigeria has a reputation for very massive corruption. I also know that the President has been able to cut that down very substantially,” Trump had said.

“We talked about that, he is working on it and they have made a lot of progress and I think they will continue to make a lot of progress.”

But Financial Times quoted three sources familiar as saying Trump told his aides that he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless as Buhari again.

The White House is yet to respond to inquiries by TheCable.

Last year, there was a controversy over Trump’s alleged description of some African countries as “shithole”.

The Washington Post said he made the remark at a private White House meeting on January 12 but the American leader denied making the comment.

Politics / US Says "Massive Corruption" Is Evident Under President's Leadership by temitemi1(m): 4:53pm On Aug 24, 2018
The United States has scored the President Muhammadu Buhari administration low, saying corruption is evident across all levels of government.
The observation was stated in the US 2017 Human Rights Report. It said the Federal Government led by Buhari failed to implement laws against corrupt practices.

The report added that although the government took steps to investigate alleged human rights abuses, "impunity remained widespread at all levels of government."

It said in part, "Although the law provides criminal penalties for conviction of official corruption, the government did not implement the law effectively, and officials frequently engaged in corrupt practices with impunity. Massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption affected all levels of government and the security services.

"The constitution provides immunity from civil and criminal prosecution for the president, vice president, governors, and deputy governors while in office."

The report also faulted the operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in prosecuting corruption charges. It said the Commission failed to follow due process.

It cited the case of the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, who has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2015, despite court orders demanding his release.

The report listed the most significant human rights issues during the year to include: "Extrajudicial and arbitrary killings; disappearances and arbitrary detentions; torture, particularly in detention facilities, including sexual exploitation and abuse; use of children by some security elements, looting, and destruction of property; civilian detentions in military facilities, often based on flimsy evidence."

The list also included, "denial of fair public trial; executive influence on the judiciary; infringement on citizens’ privacy rights; restrictions on freedoms of speech, press, assembly, and movement; official corruption; lack of accountability in cases involving violence against women and children; trafficking in persons; and early and forced marriages."

The report also berated Nigeria's judicial system, saying it was compromised during the period under review.

Interference with judiciary
The US said the executive and legislative arms of government continued to interfere with the judiciary.

It added, "Although the constitution and law provide for an independent judiciary, the judicial branch remained susceptible to pressure from the executive and legislative branches. Political leaders influenced the judiciary, particularly at the state and local levels.

"Understaffing, underfunding, inefficiency, and corruption prevented the judiciary from functioning adequately. Judges frequently failed to appear for trials.

"In addition, the salaries of court officials were low, and they often lacked proper equipment and training. There was a widespread public perception that judges were easily bribed and litigants could not rely on the courts to render impartial judgments.
