SOLUTIONS AND ANSWERS TO THE LAST QUIZ (MODULE 1 TEST 5) (1) The decimal part of the logarithm of a number is called MANTISSA. (2) 3^(x - 3) = 9^2x This could be rewritten as 3^(x - 3) = (3^2)^2x 3^(x - 3) = 3^4x Equating equal base gives x - 3 = 4x Collecting like terms gives x - 4x = 3 -3x = 3 x = 3/-3 x = -1 (3) log (2x + 4) - log (3x - 1) = 1 Applying the law of logarithm log [(2x + 4) / (3x - 1)] = 1 Since the logarithm is in base 10, we shall have (2x + 4) / (3x - 1) = 10^1 (2x + 4) / (3x - 1) = 10 Cross multiplying gives 2x + 4 = 10.(3x - 1) 2x + 4 = 30x - 10 Collecting like terms gives 2x - 30x = -10 - 4 -28x = -14 x = -14/-28 x = 1/2 (4) The nth term of an Arithmetic Progression (A.P.) is given as Un = a + (n - 1)d where Un is the nth term or the last term of the progression, a is the first term, n is the number of terms, and d is the common difference. Thus, the third term U3 = a + (3 - 1)d = a + 2d = 16 --------- (i) The sixth term, U6 = a + (6 - 1)d = a + 5d = 34 -------- (ii) Subtracting equation (i) from equation (ii) gives 3d = 18 d = 18/3 d = 6 Hence, the common difference is 6. THAT'S JUST IT!!! WISHING YOU THE VERY BEST NEXT TIME. |

@PatEinstEin: Thanks for your observation. Initially, I presumed every participant should know that he/she has to show the working steps. Supplying only answers does not prove that a participant solves the problem on his own, though this may not be valid as it sounds. Anyway, your observation is well recognized and noted. Kindly send me a mail just as Ayox1 and Kolad did. Their incentive has respectively been sent to them. Compliments of the season! |
COMMENTS ON THE LAST QUIZ (MODULE 1 TEST 5) The following participants - PatEinstEin, Olutayojr, Ayox1 and Kolad got 100% respectively in the last quiz while Iyoha got 75%. Thus, award/incentive will be given to PatEinstEin, Olutayojr, Ayox1 and Kolad. That said, only Kolad showed proper working steps on how he arrived at the answers to the quiz questions. The rest of you did not. NOTE: It is very necessary to show the working steps on how you arrive at the answer(s) to each of the quiz questions. though these must be short and concise. From my own judgement, the Overall Winner Of The Quiz (Module 1 Test 5) is conferred to Kolad. I hope you all know why. @PatEinstEin, Olutayojr, Ayox1 and Kolad: Kindly send me via e-mail the type of network you use (GLO/MTN/ETISALAT/AIRTEL). Wishing you all a glorious, prosperous new year in advance. |
iyoha240:@Iyoha: Your attempt is noted. Let's just wait till the end of the week when the overall winner and the first runner-up will be announced. Please, stay connected. |

1)Mantissa. 2)3^(x-3)=9^2x =3(x-3)=3^4x =(x-3)=4x =x-4x=3 x=-1. 3)x=0.5 or1/2. 4) an=a(1)+(n-1)d d=6. @Ayox1: Your attempt is noted. Let's just wait till the end of the week when the overall winner and the first runner-up will be announced. Please, stay connected. |
MODULE 1 TEST 5 (1) The decimal part of the logarithm of a number is called ........................ (2) Solve the exponential equation: 3^(x - 3) = 9^2x (3) If log (2x + 4) - log (3x - 1) = 1, find x. [NOTE: The logarithm is in base 10.] (4) The third term of an Arithmetic Progression (A.P) is 16 and its sixth term is 34. Find the common difference. COMMENTS ON THE LAST QUIZ (MODULE 1 TEST 4) Kazrem got 100% in the previous quiz. Being the only participant, he is therefore given an incentive of #1,000 airtime. @Kazrem: Kindly indicate the kind of network you'll prefer and the airtime will be sent to your inbox immediately. But next time, try showing your working steps as brief as possible on how you arrive at the answers. Thanks for your courage and attempt. Keep it rolling. @ALL & SUNDRY: New week quiz questions (Module 1 Test 5) will be posted soon. Happy Weekend! |
MODULE 1 TEST 4 (1) If 2/3 of a certain number is 18, what is that number? (2) When 568 is subtracted from the product of 12 and 18, what is the result? (3) Factorise x^2 + 7x + 12 (4) David drives a car and covers a distance of 266 km in 14 hours. At what speed does he move? SOLUTIONS AND ANSWERS TO THE LAST QUIZ (MODULE 1 TEST 3) (1) A cube has 12 edges and 8 vertices. (2) The place value of 4 in 258.046 is 4 hundredth. (3) Using Four-Figure Tables and flipping to Antilogarithm of Numbers. The number whose logarithm is 1.5682 is found to be 37. (4) Let the certain number be m. From the statement, it is mathematically expressed: 45 - 2m = 21 Collect like terms 45 - 21 = 2m 24 = 2m Divide both sides by 2, we have m = 12 Hence, 12 is that number. THAT'S JUST IT!!! WISHING YOU THE VERY BEST NEXT TIME. |
MODULE 1 TEST 3 (1) How many edges and vertices has a cube? (2) What is the place value of 4 in 258.046? (3) Find the number whose logarithm to base 10 is 1.5682. (4) When twice a certain number is subtracted from 45, the result is 21. What is that number? NOTE: All answers should be posted before or on Saturday 27th August, 2016. BEST OF LUCK!!! SOLUTIONS AND ANSWERS TO THE LAST QUIZ (MODULE 1 TEST 2) (1( Given f(x) = (x - 1) / (x^2 - 2x - 3) If f(x) = 0, then 0 = (x - 1) / (x^2 - 2x - 3) Cross multiplying gives x - 1 = 0 x = 1 (2) A dice has 6 faces with numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. In a single throw, 2 can be obtained once. Hence, the probability of getting a 2 is Pr(2) = 1/6 (3) Set P is an infinite set. [That is, one with endless number of elements] (4) Let the particular number be y. Going by the question, we shall mathematically obtain (y + 9) / 2 = 5y Multiply both sides by 2, we obtain y + 9 = 2 x 5y y + 9 = 10y Collect like terms y - 10y = -9 -9y = -9 Divide both sides by -9 y = 1 Hence, the particular number is 1. THAT'S JUST IT!!! WISHING YOU THE VERY BEST NEXT TIME. |
@Nixol: What are the unresolved issues about Nursing programme? Besides, what are the other health porogrammes one can apply to study? Also, are programmes offered by NOUN home-based (i.e. Studying online) or are class-oriented (i.e. attending lectures in class)? |
