joyandfaith:Traditional wedding is legal but has to be registered, the same way a church wedding has to be registered if it's not done in a legally designated church but if it's held there then the registry formality will also be carriedout the same date. That's what you see when you see a pastor asking the couple to hold Bible and repeat after him after which the couple are asked to sign a couple of document and then issues a marriage certificate. |

Yahya Jammeh says no deal(JollofNews)– President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia has changed his mind again and has decided to stay put and defend his government.Mr Jammeh was earlier reported to have accepted a last-minute deal brokered by Mauritania’s president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz who was in Banjul on a day’s visit. The deal included him going into exile in Mauritania. He later had a change of heart and said he will only go into exile if judges at the Supreme Court rule against his petition in May.A disappointed President Aziz left Banjul late in the night for Senegal where he held talks with President Mack Sall.Nigeria Airforce officers pose for pictures before flying to SenegalMr Jammeh’s mandate expired at midnight after his surprised defeat in last month’s election by opposition candidate Adama Barrow. He had vowed to cling to power after accusing the country’s electoral commission of rigging the election in favour of the opposition. His attempt to overturn the election result at the Supreme Court has been delayed because of a shortage of judges as most of the judges come from neighbouring countriesMr Jammeh’s refusal to step down has open the door to a Senegal led military intervention to installed Mr Barrow.Meanwhile, as Senegalese and other troops massed on the Gambia’s borders, the country’s Chief of Defence Staff, Ousman Bargie, said he would not order his men to fight other African troops if they enter into the country.“We are not going to involve ourselves militarily. This is a political dispute,” he said, after eating dinner in a tourist district close to the capital, Banjul, eyewitnesses toldAFP.“I am not going to involve my soldiers in a stupid fight. I love my men,” he added, stopping to pose for selfies with admirers while dressed in fatigues, beret and green t-shirt, according to those present.Meanwhile at the time of writing this report, a Senegalese radio station is reporting that Senegalese soldiers have crossed into Gambian territory. The reporter said the heavily armed soldiers are entering the Gambia via land and sea.The Nigeria Airforce, which is already in Dakar, is on standby and would be deployed to help neutralise any resistance.Share this: |

- Igbo people in Nigeria have continued to feel marginalised and this resulted in the various agitations for the Biafran republic- The new leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, repeats that Igbo people have been pushed too far while revealing how he would lead the organisationChief Nnia Nwodo, the new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an Igbo social-cultural organisation, has asked indigenes of the zone to bring home investments so as to develop the region.Nwodo said Igbo people had been pushed beyond limitHe also raised the hope of the people of the region saying they were close to their 'promise land'.Nwodo expressed optimism that Igbo land can become the envy of Nigeria by competing favourably with China.Vanguard reports that the Igbo leader said this when he performed his first official assignment of the swearing-in ceremony of the Enugu state executive committee of the organisation.READ ALSO:Leadership tussle rocks Ohanaeze NdigboHe said apart from helping to develop the zone, such investments would boost employment in the region and further unite it.While announcing that he would unfold his agenda for Ndigbo soon, he reportedly condemned the secret trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the IndependentPeople of Biafra (IPOB).He further explained that there was no division in the organisation, adding:“We are united for a common cause. For the first time, we had a peaceful national election that went viral like never before. President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated me within 48 hours.“Former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar; Afenifere, Arewa Consultative Forum, past heads of state, governors, church leaders and other groups calledto congratulate me and lend a hand of support and partnership to work with us. The increased national attention will increase national expectation from us.”The new leader noted that Igbo people’s patience was overstretched, but promised to lead them out of their current challenge.READ ALSO:JUST IN: Ohanaeze Ndigbo elect new President-general as Nnamdi Kanu remains behind bars“The propounded elastic situation has reached its limit and when it reaches its elastic limit, it will cut. We promised to take Ndigbo to achieve that,”he said adding:“We can turn Igbo land to China of Africa if we bring home talent and God’s given gift to us.“My administration is for economic revolution not for politics because I rejected politics after the death of my wife (Justice Regina Nwodo).” |
There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may not visit the South south and South east zones before his tenure expires. This is not far from the truth as attempts made to do so in the last 18 months failed to yield positive results.Aside Edo state which he had visited during the electioneering campaign and other activities of the former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Buhari has not visited any of the states in the two regions having assumed office as president. And there are broad indications that the president may not do so before his tenure expires.President Buhari in a warm handshake with his predecessor, Goodluck JonathanIn June 2016, he attempted visiting Ogoni land to flag off the cleaning of the devastated communities, the threat form members of the Niger Delta Avengers allegedly made him to make a reversal at the eleventh hour. The fear of the militants actualizing their threat, many had alleged, kept him off the area.READ ALSO:Ohaneze Ndigbo to champion Nnamdi Kanu's unconditional releaseThe cleanup was thereafter flagged off by the Vice President Yemi Osibanjo. And since then, Buhari has notmade any attempt to visit any other state for whatever reason in the volatile Niger Delta. All visits to the zone, irrespective of its national importance have been carriedout by the vice president. Also, he was billed to attend the South East Economic Summit in Enugu on December 22, 2016 but members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra protested against his visit to the zone, matching round the city and threatening hail and fire should the president make his way to Enugu for the summit. He was billed to declare the summit open, though he persisted on attending but few hours to the event, the protest raged and he had no option but to call off the visit to the zone. IPOB members have been aggrieved over the continuous detention of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. They are demanding the release of their leader before President Buhari could gain access into their land.President Muhammadu BuhariThese are two occasions that would have brought the president to these two zones. But the grievance of the youths who are angry against the president over so many vexed issues prevented him from visiting the zones as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.READ ALSO:Biafra: Uwazuruike won’t testify against Nnamdi Kanu - MASSOBSome folks in the eastern states, especially the youths, have never been pleased with the federal government of Nigeria. They have complained severally of marginalization by the government of the country. Hence, they have called for secession from the Nigerianstate. The call is being propelled by the IPOB and MASSOB members, most of whom are youths who are championing the liberation of their people from the Nigerian state. To them, they no longer belong to Nigeria. They have carved a section of the nation for themselves with a map indicating areas that belong to the Biafra Republic. The battle was allegedly being championed by Nnamdi Kanu, an action that led to his arrest and incarceration by the Buhari’s government for over a year.Despite pleas from organized bodies and the fact that some courts have said Buhari should release him, the president has failed to do the bidding of the courts. This is why the IPOB and MASSOB members are angry with the president. They have therefore decided that the president will not visit the zone until their leader is released from custody.Biafra agitators are angry with President BuhariAlthough Niger Delta Avengers have ceased fire to give the president and the Niger Delta leaders opportunity to dialogue and bring development to the region, one cannot actually say peace has returned. For over six months, the avengers held the zone ransom bursting pipelines and destroying national assets in the oil rich Niger Delta.READ ALSO:Blood, death as Delta communities engagein fierce gun battleFollowing pleas from leaders of the region, they have decided to give peace a chance. Leaders and elders as Edwin Kiagbodo Clarke and others prevailed on them and they have laid down their arms And waiting for the government’s action. But the laying down of arms is yet to be true as barely after 24 hours when Vice President Yemi Osibanjo left Delta state after the fact finding mission, gunmen suspected to be militants set ablaze a crude oil pipeline at Ughelli area of the state. The pipeline belonging to the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) located behind the SETRACO construction yard, along the East/West express road, was seen raging with inferno. The real cause of the inferno remain ed unknown but residents say the latest attack might not be unconnected with the activities of the Niger Delta militants.NAIJ |
