The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have helped Apple sell an astounding 74.5 million iPhones during the first quarter of the company’s fiscal 2015 year. That’s more iPhones than they’ve ever sold during a single quarter, up from the previous record of 51 million iPhone sales reported during the same time last year, and above the consensus estimate of around 67 million per Wall Street analysts. That’s a 41 percent increase year-over-year for iPhone sales. Apple also moved 21.4 million iPads during the quarter, down compared to last year’s 26 million units shipped.
The record-breaking number isn’t just significant in that it earns Apple bragging rights – it’s a very loud, very clear answer to critics that claim Apple is looking at winnowing growth opportunity for its smartphone division. It’s also an indicator that Apple made the right call in addressing display size with its last update, since the larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus seem to have been responsible for a lot of the iPhone’s overall growth and record-breaking quarter.
Part of the iPhone’s tremendous success has to do with its ability to sell more devices in key growth markets, including Greater China. Analyst firm Canalys reported earlier today that Apple has shipped more smartphones in China than any other smartphone maker for the first time ever, and its surge ahead of both Samsung and recent top dog and Samsung usurper Xiaomi must translate to a huge increase in regional device sales. It’s hard to understate what an accomplishment it is for Apple to have led that market, and how key its strong position there is for future growth potential.
iPhone sales skyrocketing has a couple big potential halo effects, too. Leaving aside that iPhone buyers often also become Mac buyers, Apple is continuing to push the reach of its Apple Pay mobile payments solution, which is designed to incentivize future device purchases in turn. More devices with Apple Pay capabilities leads to greater retailer and merchant interest, which in turn prompts more consumer satisfaction (more places it works) and so on.
Apple also primes the pump for a key product launch with this many new iPhones in the wild: The Apple Watch. Since the Watch requires a companion iOS device to run apps and function fully, more iPhones by necessity means a larger potential market for Apple’s debut wearable. The watch is unique among Apple’s major new product launches in this way, so the bump in iPhone sales comes at a crucial juncture for Cupertino.

Whatsapp plus users, start uninstalling your whatsapp plus now, before Whatsapp get a hold of you.


WhatsApp has posted an article on their FAQ website in an attempt to clear up why this is happening, but it doesn’t do much more than recommend that users uninstall the third-party client and reinstall the official one. The company is apparently cracking down on this as a breach of the terms of service, and is justifying their actions under the premise of protecting user safety.

"WhatsApp Plus is an application that was not developed by WhatsApp, nor is it authorized by WhatsApp. The developers of WhatsApp Plus have no relationship to WhatsApp, and we do not support WhatsApp Plus. Please be aware that WhatsApp Plus contains source code which WhatsApp cannot guarantee as safe and that your private information is potentially being passed to 3rd parties without your knowledge or authorization. Please uninstall your application and install an authorized version of WhatsApp from ourwebsite or Google Play. Then, you will be able to use WhatsApp."


WhatsApp is one of the most-used messaging apps in existence, and today countless users of the service have taken to Google+ and Twitter to report that they’re being banned from the service for 24 hours. The common determinant between those reporting the ban seems to be the use of third-party WhatsApp clients on Android, specifically a popular one called WhatsApp+.


My Take On This


I'll advice, for now, reinstalling the normal whatsapp won’t get you unbanned till you finish the 24 hour ban. Then If you havent been banned using whatsapp+ please uninstall it now and go back to normal whatsapp before you get banned till a fix surface.

China's Xiaomi staked its claim to Apple crown on Thursday
as the world's third-biggest smartphone maker and most
valuable tech start-up unveiled the flagship Mi Note, its
challenger to Apple's iPhone 6 Plus.


Chief Executive Lei Jun introduced the Mi Note in Beijing
with a breakdown of the large-screen phone's technical
features, with multiple comparisons to Apple's equivalent.
At 2299 yuan (NZ$474) for a model with 16 gigabytes of
memory, the Mi Note will retail for almost two-thirds less
than the iPhone 6 Plus.
Just three years after Xiaomi sold its first smartphone, a US
$1.1 billion round of fundraising announced in December
valued the firm at US$45 billion. The privately held
company has risen to become the world's No. 3 smartphone
maker and is challenging Apple and Samsung Electronics Co
Ltd as well as domestic rivals such as Huawei.
Xiaomi takes efforts to play down comparisons with
Cupertino, California-based Apple, though it is commonly
called the 'Apple of China'.
"The Mi Note is shorter, thinner and lighter than the iPhone,"
Lei told his audience of thousands gathered in the north of
China's capital.
Lei wore a light-blue shirt, eschewing his previously
favoured black top, jeans and sneakers, reminiscent of Apple
founder Steve Jobs' trademark black turtleneck and jeans.

"Xiaomi is an innovative start-up company, with a short
history," said Lei. The company has been frequently
criticised for allegedly copying other tech companies, most
notably Apple. "In 10 years we will have tens of thousands
of patents."
Lei also laid out Xiaomi's strategy to connect its
smartphones with Xiaomi-branded home appliances,
allowing phone users to remotely control washing machines,
air purifiers and surveillance cameras.
"In five to 10 years all devices will become smart devices,"
he said. "If every smart device and every device at home can
be seamlessly connected to the cloud, what could our life be
like? It would be beautiful and easy."
Xiaomi weathered a decline in overall smartphone sales in
China last year to see revenue more than double to 74.3
billion yuan (US$11.99 billion) from 2013.
The company sold more than 61 million handsets in 2014, up
227 percent from a year earlier. In China, the world's biggest
smartphone market, overall sales fell 8 percent, according to
the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The Mi Note has a metal frame and is protected on the front
and back with 3D curved Gorilla Glass 3, which apparently
makes it highly resistant to scratches and shattering.
Xiaomi compared the Mi Note to the iPhone 6 Plus, noting
that the Note's 5.7-inch display is larger than the iPhone 6
Plus' 5.5-inch screen, and the Note is 0.15mm thinner and
11gm lighter.
However, "Xiaomi is not eating Apple's lunch -- they are
eating Samsung's," said Nick Spencer, a senior practice
director at ABI Research.
"The names and sizes of the devices are no coincidence," he
told TechNewsWorld.
Xiaomi "has Samsung on the run in China, and they are
driving home the advantage by squarely pitching themselves
against one of Samsung's last bastions of strength -- the
Galaxy Note," Spencer remarked.


The New Xiaomi Devices' Tech Specs

The Mi Note has a 2.5-GHz Snapdragon 801 processor
and an Adreno 330 GPU from Qualcomm
A dual 4G micro/nano SIM card slot
and a 5.7-inch Sharp/JDI full HD display .
It will be available in 16-GB and 64-GB models. The Note
Pro has a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor,
An Adreno 430 GPU And a 2k display.
That's not new -- Sony, LG and Vivo offer smartphones with
2k displays too.
The Note Pro supports LTE-CAT 9, which offers download
speeds of up to 450 Mbps.
Both devices run Android 5.0 Lollipop, skinned with
Xiaomi's Mi UI.
Both have a Sony 13-MP f/2.0 rear camera with optical
image stabilization and a 4-MP front camera with 2-
micron pixels.
They offer what appear to be excellent hi-fi audio
capabilities as well.
The Mi Note, which begins shipping Jan. 27, is priced at
$370 for the 16-GB version and $450 for the 64-GB
mode.
The Note Pro, to be released in March, will cost $530.

Last year Samsung released an eight-core version of
the Galaxy S5, and now it has outed a dedicated
octocore smartphone in its own right: the Galaxy A7.


Korean firm teased the phone in 2014 and showcased
it last week, according to a report, but now it is
official with dual 1.8GHz and 1.3GHz quad-core
processors (or 1.5GHz and 1.0GHz in the dual-SIM
version) and a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon chip.
Those eight cores are great for handling multiple
tasks, on paper, and are backed up with 16GB of
memory storage, 2GB of RAM and a large 2,600mAh
battery.



There’s no word on launch dates, initial markets or
pricing, although reports last week pegged it at
around $420 off contract. The phone runs Android
KitKat and sports a 5.5-inch screen, making it larger
than the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A7 that were
announced back in October. Like those two products,
it is another slim, metallic bodied release from
Samsung, which has long been criticized for using all-
plastic bodies, including faux leather.


Samsung has again focused on appealing to
cameraphone enthusiasts. There is a 13-mega pixel
rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing
camera. On the software side, the Galaxy A7 software
that Samsung claims can take a ‘wide’ selfie, while
‘auto selfie’ lets narcissists snap themselves using “a
voice command or even a simple wave of the hand” –
selfie sticks be damned. Samsung is also touting
‘Always Clear Voice Auto Control’ which reduces
background noise in-call, multiple screen support for
apps and a private mode that “adds an extra layer of
security for important files and documents.”



The introduction of the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 over the
past few months is interesting: Samsung is
diversifying its focus beyond its flagship Galaxy S and
Note families. The company is bracing itself for its
first profit drop in three years, and its latest Galaxy
S5 and Note 4 don’t appear to be selling as well as
previous models. The Galaxy A3 and A7 were pretty
focused on China, as we noted last year, but Samsung
is birthing a new series of phones that offer
something else to consumers. With a distinctly
different design, marketing focus and lower prices,
the Galaxy A series looks to be its Xiaomi-like effort at
bringing a quality experience to the mid-range of the
smartphone market.
