Former Nigeria head coach Samson Siasia has expressed his readiness to manage the Super Eagles if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation. Siasia was relieved of his job after failing to qualify the country for the 2012 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations staged in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. The former Flying Eagles coach said he learnt from his past errors and would be willing to prove his doubters wrong if given a second chance. "I have been there before and I did my best. Yes, I am always ready to come back and continue from where I stopped,” Siasia was quoted byDailyNewsWatch. "Honestly, I will be delighted to come back if the Nigeria football authorities need my services. "I have learnt my lessons and this time round I am ready to shame my critics. I had no time to prove myself with the team. "I was there for only 10 months, which was not enough. It takes time to build a good team. Of course it is a thing of pride to be the coach once again,” he continued. "I have always felt I’ve an unfinished business with the Super Eagles considering the way I left. We had a great team that I could have built on for the future, but I was denied the opportunity and I really felt bad about it.” Meanwhile, the ex-international has strongly denied holding any pre-contract talks with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation as a potential replacement for out-of-contract Stephen Keshi. "Which NFF are you talking about? This is news to me. Nobody has discussed anything like that with me. May be they are talking about the NFF getting a new coach after its Congress. "If they want me fine; if they don’t want me fine. I wish Keshi well and I have no grudges against him. He has done well for the country,” he concluded.

NFF set to bring back Samson Siasia in place of Stephen Keshi The Big Boss might have come to the end of his tenure with Nigeria if the National Sports Commission allows the Glass House to wield the big stick. Samson Siasia could be in line to replace Stephen Keshi as Nigeria coach unless the National Sports Commission stops the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF. Goal exclusively gathered from a top NFF official at the weekend that the Super Eagles’ poor results against Congo where they lost 3-2 in Calabar as well as the goalless draw away to South Africa has blotted the impressive record of the trainer. A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation disclosed that “there are many factors standing in the way of Stephen Keshi to be re-appointed as the Eagles chief coach and I will give you a break-down but before that I must say that Keshi must be most grateful to the Honourable Sports Minister (Tammy Danagogo) for fighting for his retention as the chief coach. “The minister has never hidden his love and preference for him and he based it on Keshi’s past achievement which he said was more than necessary for him to continue his job. The minister still believes that the Eagles under Keshi could still bounce back and qualify for the 2015 Afcon in Morocco. “But we at the NFF here know that the problem with the team is more than what we are seeing from the surface. Firstly, there is no commitment on the part of the players Keshi is parading for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and if something drastic is not done, Nigeria may not be among those nations that would campaign in Morocco 2015,” the source who begged for his identity not to be revealed told Goal. The NFF source also revealed that most of the members of the NFF Executive Board are no longer at ease with the alleged antics and disrespect of Keshi towards them and now want another coach who would listen to them and respect them as his employers. They have also not forgotten in a hurry the way Keshi allegedly humiliated the Aminu Maigari Board members during the Africa Cup of Nations which Nigeria won in South Africa in 2013 and felt highly disappointed with the way the Coach received all the accolades and praises from all and sundry without mere mention of the NFF Board and Secretariat. “We all know how Keshi threatened to dump the team in South Africa shortly after the Eagles won the 2013 Afcon. The controversies generated by this singular action of his put the NFF then in a bad light and so many other crises including the Eagles threatening not to play one of the qualifying matches for the last World Cup as well as during the World Cup proper when the players demanded for their bonuses are all crises that have put negative mark on the NFF. “So unless the National Sports Commission decides to use its veto powers, I don’t think Keshi would be retained as the Eagles coach. Even the N6 million that the minister said he is requesting for cannot be met by the NFF as a matter of fact. The NFF is broke for now and the crisis has not helped matters. “It seems everybody is speaking favourably about Samson Siasia to come back to the post he left in 2011. Some of us believed that Siasia has learned his lessons and he would adjust where he has failed to bounce back with the Eagles. Another thing is that it will be very difficult for us to pick the 2015 Nations Cup ticket if we continue to parade the same players Keshi is using to prosecute the 2015 Afcon qualifiers so it is preferable Siasia comes to the rescue and bring new ideas and players that are fighters to salvage the situation. “The reason for the choice of Siasia is that the NFF cannot afford the salary and emoluments of a foreign coach now, so employing a foreign coach to replace Keshi now is out of the issue. But we will know precisely how it goes after Tuesday when NFF elections will take place,” the source concluded. SOURCE:http://m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/5133507

Ahead of October 10 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier with the Super Eagles, Sudan have stepped up preparations to upset the African champions on home soil. Sudan started their 2015 AFCON campaign on a dismal note, losing 3-0 to South Africa, followed by a 1-0 defeat to Congo, results that have left them languishing on the foot of Group A, with zero point.Another defeat to Nigeria will effectively end Sudan’s dream to qualify for next year’s tournament in Morocco. The Eagles are also walking on a tight-rope after a 3-2 home loss to Congo and barren draw with South Africa, left them in third place with one point and seriously struggling to survive in the heat to qualify for the second successive Nations Cup, after their missing out on a place at the 2012 edition, jointly co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Aware of the dangers ahead, Sudanese coach Mohamed Abdullah has told his troops to see the match against the Eagles as a do or die affair. Speaking to Sudan’s leading sports newspaper, Al Captain, Abdullah said that Sudan cannot afford to lose to Nigeria, adding that “we must fight to get a win because another defeat will compromise our chances of qualifying for the tournament in Morocco”. Most North Africans see next year’s tournament in Morocco as an opportunity for the Arab race to reclaim the AFCON trophy from west Africa and Abdullahi said that it was important for Sudan to participate in the tournament, but however admitted that the task has been made harder with the defeats to South Africa and Congo. Following the reactions that trailed his earlier stance that Manchester City of England prodigy and Flying Eagles star, Kelechi Iheanacho is ‘not for the Super Eagles now’, Out-of-Contract Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has maintained his stand, by reiterating that Iheanacho is ‘not ready’ for the Super Eagles at the moment. Keshi, who had initially denied saying the 17-year old was ‘too young’ and ‘inexperienced’, maintained that Iheanacho is still not ready for the step up to the Super Eagles. Hear him: “It’s not true that I said he’s too young and inexperienced but he just started. When I first proposed to invited the same Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi and Dele Alampasu, I received a lot of sticks from people, especially Paul Bassey of the NFF technical committee. They were against me. “They said all sorts of things like ‘they’re too young, don’t bring them in’ and now the same people are calling for the same players to be called. Is it because he (Iheanacho) played two matches for Manchester City? But come on,” he said. However, Keshi went on to contradict his earlier statement of denial about not saying Iheanacho is ‘too young’ and ‘inexperienced’. “He’s a good player and someday we will need him but we have other mature and experienced players that we need right now. But for me, Iheanacho is not ready for the senior national team,” Keshi said. So many ex-players and fans have called for Iheanacho’s invitation to the Super Eagles given the team’s recent lack of spark in midfield but Keshi’s latest stance is sure to elicit more discussions as to whether the 17-year old is truly ready for the Eagles. Do you follow the Nigerian Premier League? We have had 26 rounds of the league this season and currently defending champions Kano Pillars are on 46 points, three points ahead of second-placed Nasarawa United. Enyimba International, Abia Warriors and Warri Wolves are one point further behind on 40 points. Bar a miracle it looks like Nembe City, who are bottom on 24 points, six points behind their nearest rivals, are set to be relegated. Kaduna United are second-last, on goal difference below Crown FC, while Gombe United, Taraba FC, Bayelsa United, and even Rangers International, are still battling to avoid those relegation spots. But which club is your favourite? Do you support a NPL club (or perhaps even an NNL team) and how often do you go watch live? How can the LMC and the NFF make the Nigerian League more attractive?

Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is on the radar of English Premier League side, Arsenal, sl10.ng has learnt. Reports in England are rife that the FA Cup champions are currently monitoring Yobo's situation, with the former Nigeria international now a free agent after leaving Turkish outfit, Fenerbahce. The UK Daily Mail has it that Arsenal scouts have been mandated to examine the possibilities of having Uruguay captain Diego Lugano and Joseph Yobo on short term deals, to provide cover for Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertasacker. Both players are currently available as free agents, and have already been discussed by the London club. Yobo has premier league experience with Everton, where he spent ten years, and Norwich City, where he spent six months. Clubs can still sign free agents despite the transfer window closing on September 1, and a move for Yobo is also understood to be some way off as Arsenal are still considering their options.http://www.sl10.ng/news/articles/categories/nigeria-players-abroad/joseph-yobo-is-on-the-radar-of-arsenal/177087
