A period of 5 years is too small to determine dominance or otherwise.

10, 20, 50 years are much more ideal.

In the case you cited 4 champions league to 3 in 10 years (a decade) is everything else but dominance.

In any case the champions league is nobody's domain or jurisdiction.

There is nothing like dominating champions league when you're flopping in your home league.

Ronaldo has only about 20 goals more than Messi after having played over 100 games more.

Perhaps it's only because a lot of people still see Messi as a playmaker.

Ronaldo has 405 goals in 524 appearances.

Messi has 390 goals in 427 appearances.

That is just 15 fewer goals in as much as about 100 fewer appearances.
