Education / Jonathan Inaugurate 100bn Project For Tetiary Institution by tew: 7:42am On Aug 03, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan will
in a fortnight, flag-off
infrastructure projects worth
N100 billion in universities and
tertiary institutions across the
country, a situation which may
assuage the striking Academic
Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)
to end their industrial action.
Benue State Governor, Gabriel
Suswam, who is also the
chairman of the needs
assessment implementation
committee of the universities
established by the National
Economic Council (NEC) to bridge
the infrastructural gaps in
tertiary institutions, disclosed
this to State House
correspondents Friday after he
met with Jonathan.
According to Suswam, the
projects that the President is
expected to flag-off include
lecture theatres, classrooms and
hostels, many of which he noted
were in deplorable conditions,
necessitating the President to
assign the committee to ensure
that things were put in good
shape immediately.
He observed: “that is one of the
reasons why ASUU is even on
strike,” assuring that the
committee would have
completed its task, thus
necessitating ASUU to call off its
strike, which they embarked
upon partly because of dearth of
infrastructure and lack of earned
allowances.
The governor explained that:
“the NEEDS assessment,” which
his committee is handling has
been virtually concluded, adding,
“I think by next week, it will be
definitely concluded,’ while the
earned allowance aspect being
handled by the Office of the
Secretary of the Government of
the Federation (OSGF) would be
taken care of in the next one
week.
“Given the seriousness of the
issue, we will be able to come to
some level of agreement with
ASUU, which will probably lead to
call off of the strike. I'm not
saying they are calling off the
strike. We have to agree on these
two remaining issues,” Suswam
stated.
The governor, who acquiesced
that the deficits in terms of
infrastructure, covering
instructional materials to the
universities would take years to
address completely, however
expressed optimism that if
government sustains funding of
the projects “ I believe we will be
able to give our universities a
new lease of life.
“It will start with the sum of N1
billion and we set up a small
committee which will report back
to the bigger committee on
Tuesday for us to be able to
select universities across the six
geopolitical zones where the
president will decide to go and
flag of projects worth about N1
billion and that should be the
end of this month or first week
of September, because there are
processes that needed to be
carried out for us to achieve
that,” he said.
On purported de-camping of
some governors from the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Suswam said: ‘I'm not one of
those governors so I can't
comment on their behalf. Politics
is something that is very free if
people decide to change their
parties, it is their own
prerogative to so do. As far as
I'm concerned I'm 100 per cent
PDP. I will never leave the party
and I believe I will stay with the
party until we get to where we
want to be.”
He also said the five northern
governors currently on
nationwide consultations with
key political stakeholders “were
free as leaders in their own
right” to undertake the exercise,
pointing out that: "they are
leaders in their own.
“I'm not part of the wider
consulting and what they are
consulting for. They have the
right to consult. I believe that
whatever we do as present
leaders, we must ensure that
whatever actions we take would
be for the interest of the people”.

bolaino: It's a question that should be answered with utmost sincerity, with all honesty and with no religious bias (but I doubt my christian folks will be able to do that).

But let's examine the death of jesus, christians from time immemorial have given us the illusion that it was the greatest and noblest thing any man or God could have done for his people, by paying the ultimate price, ( giving up his life),

But I chose to disagree, in the case of jesus, he is said to be God, and he created all things, having this knowledge how would coming to earth and dying and going back to splendor a big deal? I know of people who have gone through a lot worse for no reward at all, not to talk about jesus, who is supposed to be the beginning and the end, this should have been like a walk in the park for him.

But it was'nt, even knowing fully well that he was going to rise up again and be praised in heaven and on earth for all eternity, he was still scared, begging himself in heaven not to allow the whole thing happen.

Personally I would go through all jesus went through just to be given one billion dollars, I know of people who would go through same tin or even worse for less, did jesus suffer more than the slaves in america? Or did he suffer more than the people who were tortured and beaten to death, in places like cambodia, uganda, rwanda etc, the answer is No, so christians should stop saying how difficult it was for jesus to lay his life down for sinners.
.

Shhhhh...eeya bro,how i wish i could have helped you?, you've lost it long time ago b4 the days begin...your soul has been bought already and your consciousness had left you,how i wish i could just be of help...for this kind of question you asked,it would have been better if u never asked it at all or more better if u weren't born...because the end of days draw nearer and you drew away from the truth. You have been given to a locked heart for taping on this great word of abuse on Jesus...it's a pity you thought about this question..you shouldn't have.

bros, no dey allow pple to dey use ur brain anyhow. Anybody can make a wide guess on what will happen in Naija.
Why not mention d name of the artiste (or at least pay him a visit to tell him of ur "prophecy"wink instead of talking crap?
If i say someone in d transport sector will be involved in an accident, have i made a prophecy?
I can speculate ( what u call prophesy) 2013 to be a year of injury for footballers, a year of shooting and explosions in war torn countries, a year of public disgrace for corrupt government officials (from Bode George to Farouk to pension boss - i go bet say breeze go blow another govt official nyash dis year), a year of promotion for children of God (of course people who deserve promotion will surely get it, all things being equal), and so on.

What u need is not prophecy, it is to ask for the will of God to be done in ur life. To strive to have a more meaningful r/ship with ur Maker.
