davien:Planes don't mimic birds. They use the same aerodynamic rules. They are dissimilar in almost every other way except that they both have wings. This is not a good example. Planes don't fly themselves. Even on autopilot they are programmed to do so. Who is grasping at straws now? You seem to be under the misconception that I don't believe AI is a viable possibility. On the contrary there have been significant advances toward that end. I don't however believe Man will ever come up with an option near what actual humans are. Oh and if all I've pointed out is so obvious, why do you feel the need to continue debating me. ![]() |
When it comes right down to it your questions are legitimate ones, if there ever comes a day they need to be asked. I'll take a watch and wait stance until/if this becomes an issue. |
davien:Emphasis on the bolded. |
AllNaijaBlogger:I'll give you the bolded. btw HIV/AIDS is manageable with treatment now. There is no cure. |
davien:None of this compares to human intelligence or consciousness. My point is...I'm don't believe Man will ever be able to completely engineer human emotions from A.I. If we are talking machines that can learn, we are already there. |
AllNaijaBlogger:If genius has no limit, then why do we not have a cure for cancer. |
davien:The bolded makes it still just a program davien:This statement brings us back to what Uyi said. It all depends on how you define consciousness. davien:Still programmed. Which makes me think about the myriad of movies where "self aware" machines make choices based on logic alone, and do not take any extenuating circumstances into consideration. I read somewhere that artificial intelligence should not be confused with consciousness in the sense of qualia. I agree with this. |
AllNaijaBlogger:The difference between stupidit.y and genius is that genius has its limits. ~Albert Einstein |
AllNaijaBlogger:Of course there is. Don't be silly. |
AllNaijaBlogger:I already given my hypothesis. |
AllNaijaBlogger:I really am not one to use this phrase frivolously, but I'm tempted to say, "Let's cross that bridge when/if we get there." I'm usually a "be prepared before you get there" chick. I find it difficult to look beyond "reality" in this instance, which is uncharacteristic of me. ![]() |

standd:No we don't keep mute. We become uncomfortably verbal. As I said, attitudes need to change. Some very good resources have been mentioned. We need to take it a step further and take responsibility for ourselves and those we bring into this world. We must protect those who cannot protect themselves, while we continue to affect change as best we can. As always, change begins with the person looking back at us from the mirror. |
Artificial intelligence is based on learning. Any information an A. I. already knows is simply what was programmed into it. Anything after that would be "learned" knowledge and behavior. Isn't this how all intelligent life learns? Basically artificial intelligences are bound by the same environmental, educational and religious backgrounds as the rest of us. Just like we learn religion from our parents, these beings will learn from what they are exposed to. If artificial intelligence was actually created it would still learn the way we do. Maybe faster, but anything imbedded from the start is not "intelligence". It is a program. From a scientific viewpoint, for all intents and purposes, these beings would be children. They would learn just like us. We are a product of what we are exposed to, plain and simple. From a religious and personal point of view, there is a difference between a creation and something engineered. That may not make sense, but it is an opinion. |

Everything a child learns in this life is built on the foundation constructed in the home. This foundation is the base on which all learning depends. |
standd:I'll never understand why people have children they are unwilling or unable to teach and raise properly. No offense but maybe this is the problem. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I thought it was a parents job to raise well adjusted, properly educated, independent adults who are a positive influence on society. Perhaps it's the attitude that children are property and not a responsibility that is the problem. No vex. |
Sex education is a must. If we, as parents, don't teach our children about sex they will learn it from other sources. Namely; friends, TV and porn. Non of these three sources are ideal. I, for one, do not wish to trust my child's friends to teach them about a subject as important to their future happiness as sex. Yes I said happiness. TV distorts what relationships are really like, and creates false expectations. Porn also creates expectations, ideals and attitudes that are counter productive to healthy relationships. Many children begin watching porn at a very early age. This puts images and thoughts into that child's mind that their bodies and maturity level are unable to handle. These types of "entertainment" also usually show women as docile and agreeable to any and all situations and acts. They are not respected and are seldom treated well. They are simply there for the pleasure of the man. Nothing more. Is it any wonder that these children grow up thinking this same way? Men thinking anything goes and women thinking that acting this way is what "love" is about. Smh If we want to raise health, happy and well adjusted children, education and example are the key. Children need to be taught about good and bad touches. They need to be empowered to say "no" to elders in this situation. Let's face it, we teach our children to respect and obey those older and in a position of authority. Give them the strength and the permission to go against that authority in this situation. Anyone who wishes to harm my child does not deserve respect, and that child has my permission to do and say anything necessary to protect themselves. Children also need to know that we will always take their side in this case. Many crimes are not reported because the victim is intimidated or is made to feel they are to blame. We need to show our children at home how a husband should treat his wife, and the way a wife should treat her husband. If our children see love and respect at home they will want that same thing in their relationships. If we teach them about sex in a loving and mature way, they will know the difference when they are faced with all the images that are thrown at them daily by porn, TV and social media. They will look at the world around them with the knowledge they need to make good choices. We've heard it said for many generations now, "Things were not like this when I was a kid." This is more true today than in any generation in the past. Kids are faced with so much more sexual pressure than ever before. They are exposed to so many more sexual images than we were. They are becoming sexually active younger and younger. Don't let them go out in the world without the "armor" and strength needed to withstand all that society and the media will hit them with these days. Until we take charge of sex education at home and in our communities, empower our child and keep our eyes on their comings and goings this situation will only get worse. The answer to this problem starts at home. |
