cc Logicbwoy, Wiegraf, JoshTheFirst, Texanomaly, logoscope, theharbinger. Lol I didn't even know what epub files were till I Googled it Sorry. I use Google docs. Google says: Procedure Unarchive your epub into a folder (change the extension to .zip , and extract). Open Brackets, and go to File -> Open Folder. Select your extracted epub folder. Edit any of your HTML and CSS files! Activate Live Preview to view the ebook in Chrome! The preview will change as you type. |

plaetton: Fair answer.
As such, would you then agree that prayers and supplications are redundant and superfluous ? No. I've had prayers answered before. I think what some people fail to consider is that sometimes the answer is "NO". It could even be "Not now". I have had times of doubt, but I also know I've had prayers answered. I can see your point though. Sometimes I wonder how much more He thinks we can take. It's not always easy to "keep the faith". |

Logicbwoy: You really are annoying.
You wish not to argue over God's existence. No problem.
However, the problem is that you keep repeating this mantra every time you happen to see people arguing about God.
It is like always going to a technology thread where people are arguing over Apple Mac and Microsoft windows and then declaring that you don't see the point in the argument because both are good operating systems. If you have no desire to argue why then do you keep jumping into where people are arguing and stating that you don't want to argue? Actually I prefer Mac. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Nigerians, What Is God Doing About Our Current Problems by texanomaly(f): 5:14pm On Apr 05, 2016 |
The problem is not that He doesn't answer prayers. The problem is that we all have free agency, and we have no control over those who would use their free agency against us. |

Logicbwoy: One common tactic of concern trolls is the "a plague on both your houses" approach, where the concern troll tries to convince people that both sides of the ideological divide are just as bad as each other, and so no one can think themselves "correct" but must engage in endless hedging and caveats. This preys on a willingness to debate critics and allow dissent; everyone wastes time discussing the matter and bending over backwards, so as not to appear intolerant of disagreement, all to the great amusement of the troll.
==============================================
There is a reason why texanomaly's comment doesn't sit well with me. Every time there is a debate between atheists and theists (christians mostly), there is always a fence sitter who claims that the debate is futile and one can't prove God either way- be it to exist or not to exist.
This fence sitter is a concern troll because the fence sitter is not only misunderstanding the fundamental atheist position, but also acting as if both sides are equally wrong.
First the atheist position is that there is no evidence for God and by extension the onus is on the theist to provide evidence. Atheists dont need Texanomaly the fence sitter to tell us that God cant be proven to exist or not to exist- atheists already know that since most atheists are also agnostics. We know that the toothfairy can't be disproved the same way God cant be disproved. Actually, I'm not a fence sitter. I think your position is completely wrong and you are missing out on a great deal of blessings because of it. I simply don't wish to argue about it. fortunately, we are free to believe what we will. |

Yeah. I feel that way now. Lol. *Sighs* Me thinks he doeth protesteth too much under this moniker. Tis easy to hide from oneself. Take heed one doesn't lose oneself. undercat: You are quite right. However some people do get convinced by some of the arguments. I think the modest conversion rate might add some fuel to the fire, with most commentators hoping to release other commentators from ignorance.
I suspect that theists will not like your saying that God cannot be proven beyond a shadow of doubt since they consider God to be proven to them. Actually I'm one of them. I do believe God exists. He exists beyond the shadow of a doubt for me, but I'm also aware that I cannot prove that to someone else. Knowing God is something that must be experienced personally. A personal relationship with God is not something that can be explained into existence. I do wish everyone felt the joy and love that I feel. I won't try to force my beliefs on anyone though. |

PastorAIO: I certainly believe that there is a bit of everything in everything. We can truly see the entire universe even in a grain of sand. But Blake says it without recourse to a God concept. I'm not sure where you stand on God these days. Confusion seems to be running amuck lately. I recall a different version of you in the past. PastorAIO: Auguries of Innocence BY WILLIAM BLAKE To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour btw: Blake uses spiritualism and "the God concept" quite effectively in Auguries of Innocence. Have you read the entire poem? Google a line by line summary. You'll see what I mean. PastorAIO: PS. Thanks for the Steven Weinberg lead. I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy watching the video very much. You're welcome |

I saw it over and over before I finally left the Religion section. No one can prove anything one way or the other. We just keep banging each other over the head with our opinions. I guess it's the debate that makes it interesting. I used to get involved more when I first came to NL. Now I just sit back and watch the sparks fly.
Here we go around and around again...
*sighs*
It's like children trying to prove, "My dad is better than your dad!" How can that be proven when both children believe they are right no matter what the other says? You will never convince one that the others' is better.
Religion can't prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that there is a God. Science and logic cannot prove beyond the shadow of a doubt there is no God. So...
Is it the love of debate that fuels the fire? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Plaetton's Pantheism by texanomaly(f): 3:09pm On Apr 02, 2016 |
@ PastorAIO If Pantheism is the belief that the Universe (or nature as the totality of everything) is identical with divinity, or that everything composes an all-encompassing, immanent god. and Pantheists thus do not believe in a distinct personal or anthropomorphic god. What does this make someone who believes in a personal God, and that there is a part of Him in all of the universe (or nature as the totality of everything) aside from confused? |

@ Plaetton
If you haven't already read these you might be interested:
“To Explain the World: The Discovery of Modern Science.” Book "The Crisis of Big Science" talk given at the World Science Festival 2011 by Steven Weinberg
there is also a video discussing the book called "To Explain the World: A conversation with Steven Weinberg" It is moderated by John Hockenberry (interesting)
Steven Weinberg said, "The world is governed by a unified set of laws, which we don't yet know."
I strongly believe these "unified laws", when deciphered, will give us crucial incites that will help us understand and view science, religion and nature in general, in a new and exciting light. We just aren't there yet. Continued research in this area could make all the difference in the world...laterally |

plaetton: Yes sir, it still does.
The only subtle difference is that , I would now try to understand, to synchronize these ideas from a scientific perspective, from a quantum physics perspective.
This is why quantum physics excited me. Though still at its infancy, I think it holds the keys to understanding what are referred to as spiritual or mystical phenomena.
One of Tesla most memorable quotes is the Universe can only and fully be understood in terms Energy, vibrations and frequencies. Ummm...did you take these words from my mouth? I once said something very similar here on NL. I probably didn't say it as well as this though. |
