Earthquake1: Definitely, finding a genuinely young RB in NPFL is not impossible How do you suggest this is done? And who do you suggest do the scouting? Our money for hand back for ground local coaches? And in what league? An inconsistent league that has been on break for how long? I know there could be genuinely talented young footballers in the league, but the system is too flawed to unearth one. Papa Rohr knows this and that's why he's not looking inward. |

kennysville: Friends, Countrymen, nairalanders.... On Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori
Finally, we can all rest from the unnecessary comparison, to cap or not to cap talk. I have watched from the sidelines how people fought each other, throwing jabs left, right and center. Can we now tell ourselves the blatant truth? First up, it is time we stopped this chasing of Foreign born players and develop our own who understand our philosophy. Personally, i feel it is a shame on us as far as Nigeria is concerned. Those who are old enough to know in this group will remember players like John and Justin Fashanu who could have played for Nigeria but refused only to regret it later. The list goes on. Bottomline is the decision to play for another country rests with these players as it were. There is no reason to go moaning or insulting people just because Tammy or Tomori refused to play for Eagles.
What i find annoying is having to make these Foreign borns into what they are not. And that is elevating them beyond our own home groomed players. While i will not blame anyone who thinks otherwise, the truth is we need to look ourselves in the mirror and ask why we keep waiting for other nations to give us finished articles. Oh gosh now it all makes sense. Actually what does Nigeria produce? All we do is consume. We produce oil, export it and then import the refined products cos we are too corrupt to have functioning refineries.
We want things and we want it now. Unfortunately the societies that the Europeans and the west built were built decades ago. The systems they have working for them were built years ago. We on the other hand just like to take.... reap where we did not sow, have sense of entitlement. We get into government and forget the reason we went in there was to serve people. Everyone wants to look good at all costs. I beta pass you syndrome eating into the very fabric of our society.
What happened to us copying standards that actually work ? Have a proper system that monitors development. If it were up to me, I would shut down the NPFL for 2 years. Do restructuring and lay off all players over 22 yrs of age. But alas! Some people are gona be jobless with such an excercise (mostly players). Not to mention infrastructural issues. No facilities. Yall gonna ask so whats my point?
Well here it is.... it 's time we got our bloody s#it together unless of course we believe we are a lost cause.
On foreign borns, those who will not want to play for Naija, we wish them all the best. What we need in the Super Eagles are players ready to bleed green white green. Players who are passionate about Nigeria. We dont want players that want to come and look good or make us as plan B. We dont want Social media players who try to force the hand of a federation. As for Abraham and Tomori... I wish em the best. Hopefully they get 50caps for England. But enough is with international embarrassments and monumental disgrace. We are Naija! We get pride too. Na so e be!t You talk better word. But who wan listen? Even our clueless President wouldn't read what you wrote if it's printed on a 100ft X 100ft banner and he fell on it. |

And I watched ebere Eze play the other day, maybe cuz I was busy and not fully focused on the match, but I didn't see any spectacular player, just a normal decent lad... Same thing with me bro. It was the first time I was watching him outside YouTube clips. He kept losing balls and making wrong passes. Well, to those who have been watching him regularly, I hope it was just a one-off thing sha-o 'cause I've been blowing the guy's trumpet to friends based on reports I've been getting on this thread. |

What Tammy would offer us, Osimhen will offer it with passion..
What Tomori would offer us, Awazien/ Kenneth will offer it with passion and joy. Thanks a million for these words. These guys (Tammy & Tommy) are young just like many others we can easily get. Though these others may not be at the same level with these two right now, some of them have what it takes to be even better in the long run all things being equal. Bottom line is we should stop whining like a little school girl who's been jilted by her boyfriend and redirect our efforts at getting those who we can. |

I don't know when we will get to see an African team play like that.
The rest of the world aside Oceania are heads and shoulder ahead of us in the round leather game.
This US female team may even old Rohr's eagle to a goalless draw. I was thrilled all through. It's been said here many times - you can't give what you don't have. We don't just have what it takes. No infrastructure, no functioning league.... My brother, the least is endless. |

Guess who is partnering Mola Wague in the Malian defense, Kiki Kouyate, a player who was shuttling btwn Mali btwn U17 & U20 from 2014 through 2015 At least 7 players of Mali's starting 11 were first time starters in this Afcon yet they played so well. ChrisKels: Rohr when quizzed on the iedeal of the fantastic youngsters (Osimhen, Chukwueze and especially Onyekuru) he has hasn't given opportunities or enough opportunities so far in this AFCON;
"Of course we would like to see other players but sometimes the attitude of the players in the training sessions, general attitude, they show us that they are not ready for such a big game."
Which yeye attitude the man dey talk about here? That was the same language he used to hang Iheanacho I used to like and defend Rohr, but I now see him as a grumpy old man looking for excuses for his tactical ineptitude. When he started with Nacho, I said to myself, when Nacho was saving his old white ass with goals, he didn't see him as not serious. Just imagine this man saying some hard-working players who've done so well this season in their various clubs are suddenly not serious. If I say I no tire for Rohr, my nose for don long pass Pinocchio own. |

raindodger13: I'm of the opinion that Rohr should mix in a SS formation along side ighalo like against Iceland and Argentina in the Worldcup, preferably Musa. He doesn't have to use that exact formation, just give some Ighalo help up there. Everytime he got into the final third he recieved jungle justice from madagascar and there was no one else to relieve him of the pressure. It wouldnt make sense to keep using this single striker formation and magically expect goals to come from nowhere. Apt insight. But it's not enough to just have a second striker. The movement off and on the ball in the final third must be top notch. Look at when Ndidi came in, several times, he had the ball for too long near the opposition box because the formation was rigid in that final third. One expects to see quick movements across the opponent's box, in and out of the box interspersed with quick passing to break the opponent's formation at the back, but unfortunately as you rightly pointed out, the forward players were always isolated especially Ighalo, who always had at least 2 shadows on him. Seriously, I'm really beginning to wonder what the coaches impact on the team during trainings if the team still looks this clueless when a bus is parked by the opponent. We should not forget that we'll always come against teams which will park the bus, especially if they scored first..... my thoughts... |

TheSuperNerd: He is not lying. He makes sense. Nwakali's only minus is his club career instability. That lad can be key for us as he is readily accessible.
Eze Ebere, Aribo and Onomah can always follow and displace him if he doesn't do enough to hold a shirt down. You're right. It's time we start looking for players with specific qualities, not just those that play in top teams. We need players that are good in dead ball situations, wingers that are deadly with crosses, some that are good with long range scorchers and the likes and not to discountenance players with maddening work rate. But this has to start with right coach in synch with the right scouting team. My thoughts.... |

forgiveness: The bold was exactly what we did yesterday but it didn't work.
They should have brought in Osimhen or Onuacha for Ahmed Musa. Then you have two strikers in the box able to use their head to score. At the bolded, who would've been the second striker able to use his head? Ighalo? And again the quality of our crosses in have always been below average - no power, no swerve, no quick dip - the team may still have struggled. Records show that each time we are chasing a game and we start putting in those crosses, more often than not the exercise is fruitless. I think Rohr knows this. Which begs the question - why have both Osihmen and Onuachu in the team? After stretching play, what I think the team needed was good movement off and on the ball in the final third which was grossly lacking. My thoughts though. |
