Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq., National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has said that even though former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is constitutionally qualified to run in the 2023 presidential election, he is ethically and morally unfit and ineligible to contest.

Bamgbose noted that there is a very strong indication that Atiku may likely contest again come 2023following a hint by one of his sons, Adamu, who yesterday stated that his father will try again.

Atiku was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election. He was defeated by the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Constitutionally, the former Vice President is qualified to contest, but ethically and morally, he is unfit and ineligible to contest,” the senior lawyer, who has also indicated interest to run in the election, said in a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

Bamgbose said that the move by the former VP has shown he has no atom of regard and respect for the Southern part of Nigeria.

“There is still a subsisting unwritten gentleman agreement, that power should, as a matter of political convenience, rotate between the North and the South,” he said.

“In 2023, other things being equal, President Buhari would have spent 8 years as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Power, ordinarily should shift to the South. Atiku’s Presidential ambition come 2023 will constitute a flagrant breach of the gentleman agreement.

“In essence, it’s morally and politically despicable for Atiku to still indicate interest in 2023 Presidential elections. It’s unjust and unpatriotic of him to insist on contesting again come 2023.

“Where is his professed love for one Nigeria? Does he truly have regard for the youths of this country? Does he really consider the interest of the Southerners? His ambition will certainly jeopardize his political reputation.


It’s my humble view that it’s time for Atiku to call it a quit from politics. He should give room for others to come up. He should forget his Presidential ambition for the sake of justice, equity and fair play.

“If truly he believes in one Nigeria, it’s time for him to throw in the towel and be a mentor or elder statesman. He should steer clear of Presidential elections and groom people to take over.

“I sincerely commend Mallam Nasir El-Rufai categorical statement, that there is no justification for a Northerner to take over power, after Buhari’s eight years as President. This is honourable of him.


“He believes that it’s just for the power to go back to the South. He further said earlier this year, ‘I think that every politician of honour should understand and abide by that consensus.’ He was referring to rotational Presidency.

“He wonderfully capped it up by submitting it this way ‘I want to say that those of us from Northern Nigeria honour agreements. We do not violate unwritten political agreements, and I will be the last person to lead in violating that agreement’

“This is a great statement that will be on the marble forever. This is very commendable. Atiku’s ambition will certainly violate the unwritten but sacrosanct agreement.

“Atiku should, therefore, toe the line of El-Rufai, as a politician of Honour and repute. It’s time for him to tell Nigerians that his love for one Nigeria is genuine.”

What is Your Worst Experience with a Tenant?

As there are terrible experiences with landlords there are also terrible experiences with tenants. Today i will like to share a worst experience with a tenant.

My dad happens to be a landlord so we have met alot of tenants.

There was a stubborn tenant that rented a 3 bedroom flat worth 300k. He told my dad he will pay 250k now when he has the remaining he will pay. That's when the notoreity started. The tenant refused to pay the 50k, despite my dad's constant reminder.

When his rent expires he said he will soon pay that he needs more time, that he wants to pay everything at once. The next time my dad ask him, he said he is in financial crises all this was while i was in school. When i came back for end of semester break i still heard that the man hasn't paid his rent. I began pressuring my dad to collect this rent, the tenant has spent over 5months without paying a dime. My dad said the man lost his uncle and went for burial recently. Thats when i realize he has been given excuse to my dad for a very long time.

After sometimes i told my dad not to allow the man stay one more month without paying. My dad threaten to bring the police and take him to court. The man blocked my dad number, then my dad called him with another number when he picked and discover it was my dad he claim he didnt see my dad's initial call that he was sick. The man then switched off his phone.

We decided to go to meet the man together with a lawyer but he was not around. I placed a 2month notice and that he must pay for the months he has stayed in the house. After a week the man called with a new number pleading that he should not be evicted. He asked for my dad's account number so that he will pay. The man send 50k only. My dad told him he just completed his last year rent and will have to pay for the current year. The man refused. After the two months my dad changed the door lock thereby preventing him from getting inside even though his stuffs are inside.

After a month, a woman from the Neighborhood told my dad that the man we evicted is still living in the house. He usually comes in late at around 11-12pm and goes out around 7am. The next day we arrived there few minutes past 6 but the man has already gone. We discover that he changed the lock to the house. We end up confiscating all his properties and emptied his room. Till today he is yet to be found.

I have others stories about other tenants but i will love to hear your story. Over to you.

Chris Ogiemwonyi, Osaro Obaze are ineligible to contest APC guber elections.

As the crises in Edo state APC chapter deepens, it has been revealed that at least, two of the contenders are ineligible to contest the elections. These are Engr. Chris Ogimwonyi and Hon. Osaro Obaze. Their ineligibility arises from the fact that at one point or the other, they have taken the party APC and\or its officers to court. This is expressly forbidden by the party’s constitution, punishable by automatic expulsion.
APC Constitution
According to the constitution of the party in article 21, D-v, ”Any member who files an action in court of law against the party or any of its officers on any matter or matters relating to the discharge of the duties of the party without first exhausting the avenues for redress provided for in this constitution shall automatically stand expelled from the party on filing such action and no appeal against expulsion as stipulated in this clause shall be entertained until withdrawal of the action from court by the member”.
Chris Ogiemwonyi
Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi sued the party in 2016, after he lost the party’s governorship primaries election. Although he eventually withdrew the case, he did not formally reapply to join the party after the constitutionally mandated automatic expulsion. He is technically not an APC member and ineligible to vie for election on the platform of the party.
Osaro Obaze
Hon. Osaro Obaze was one time the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, during the second term tenure of Adams Oshiomole as governor. He was dismissed from office by the latter. He sued the Governor to court and got judgment against him for reinstatement. He nevertheless, runs foul of the APC constitution. He may argue that he sued the government and not the party, APC. However, the governor is an officer of the party in several ways. The constitution says “Any member who files an action in court of law against the party or any of its officers - - - -“. The governor is the leader of the party in the state, he is a member of the Board of Trustees, as well as member of the National and State Caucuses of the party among others. Court action against the party or officers of the party attracts automatic expulsion. He too has not reapplied to join the party.

Conclusion
The party will be wise to take the above facts into consideration in screening aspirants for the governorship primaries election. It is pertinent to avoid any mistake that opponents can capitalize upon, to harm the party’s interest.
