RomancePlease How Do I Get My Money Back Immediately? by ThatWriterBoy(op): 6:57am On Feb 11
Good morning everyone! I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to share this, but I don't know where it would fit best.

I'm serving in Lokoja, and I wanted to build a shelf for a school library. I met this carpenter close to where I stay, and he agreed to do the job for ₦40k.

He said I should pay him half of the money to buy the materials and he would deliver by the Saturday (I gave him on Wednesday) since he did not have any work on hand at that moment.

Before I sent him the money, this guy would pick my call on the first ring, and he would be answering his WhatsApp texts very fast. But since I paid him the first half, he has disappeared from the shop, he no longer picks my calls, and I've sent him numerous texts. It double ticks but he doesn't read it. And I can see his last seen time.

I asked around and the people there know him but they don't know where he lives. The only other guy that has his number is the barber that works near his shop, but the barber said he has an issue with the guy so they don't talk like that and he would not pick his calls.

How do I trace this guy to at least get my money back even if it's not everything? I don't want him to do the work for me again. I will find another carpenter.

EducationPlease I Need Advice? Is There Hope For Me With My Bsc Anatomy? by ThatWriterBoy(op): 2:01am On Feb 05
Hello everyone! Please I need advice. I'm 25 (will turn 26 this year) and I'm currently serving at the Federal University Lokoja medical school. The Human Anatomy department there. I graduated with a BSc Human Anatomy, 2.1 (4.25 GPA) from University of Port Harcourt. Before, I would always say I didn't want to go back for MBBS because of the cost and I felt that time had passed for me, but a couple of things made me start considering it again.
1. When FUL was trying to get MDCN accreditation late last year and early this year, I noticed that only 2 of the lecturers on the anatomy staff list had a BSc in Human Anatomy. The rest were doctors. Some had a first degree in anatomy, while others were pure MBBS. When I asked one of the first degree anatomy holders, he explained that in a short while, non-MBBS degree holders would no longer be allowed to teach medical students, and coming into academia with an MBBS degree was much better than coming in with a BSc. I realised that even if I have a PhD in Anatomy, perhaps a time would come where a doctor without a PhD would be preferred to lecture medical students than me. I really did not mind becoming a lecturer though, but now I'm not so sure with my anatomy degree.
2. Someone asked me today what my plans would be after I'm done serving (I finish in May), and I genuinely did not know what to say. The truth is, I would say I'd go for an MSc or something (I was considering doing something with neuroscience), but I'm starting to feel like I'm delaying the inevitable. Unemployment or underemployment and stuff. I remember my doctor uncle telling me that the 5, 6, 7 years I did not want to spend to go back to school after my anatomy degree, would still be spent on the unemployment line, and his words were scary.

I think I'm going to apply for direct entry to MBBS this year. After all, the worst that would happen is I don't get in, and I wouldn't know unless I try right? Please I need advice on the best university to apply to where I would actually stand a chance of getting in on my first try.

I considered Rivers State University since the school is in my village and they'd definitely have an indigene quota, but the school fees even for indigenes is too much for me to pay. My parents are near retirement and I don't want to put this extra burden on them after they paid for the first degree. Yes, all my siblings are done with school with the last one in final year, but I would feel guilty if I put another degree cost on them. I'd like to fund this one myself or at least get a scholarship for it.
I considered going back to Uniport where I got my anatomy degree as I heard that schools normally consider their graduates for MBBS admissions, but I also heard Uniport would give more preference to their JUPEB graduates from Ashgroove than DE so there's a massive chance I may not get in. Like the quota for DE is normally shared with JUPEB guys, and more would come from JUPEB since they pay so much money for their program. I considered Unical too because I saw they accept a 2.2 in anatomy for direct entry, and so it might be easier to get in with my 2.1. Someone was also suggesting I try Unilorin, which might be cool although I don't know whether I actually stand a chance, or FUL where I'm serving (but since the medical school just started, I'm a bit skeptical about applying, and I don't think I'd like to school there considering that I served there).

Is there any other school I should consider with my grade which would not be so expensive, and maybe a bit closer to my family in Port Harcourt? Although I really wouldn't mind going far if the chances of me getting there would be high. Also, would the calendar of the school be fast enough? I know RSU has a very fast calendar and they don't go on ASUU strikes.

But perhaps there's still something I can do with my BSc in Anatomy. I have just 3 months to be done with my NYSC service, and maybe I don't have to go back for an MBBS degree.

Please give me your advice. I'd really appreciate you. Thank you!

Back to the use of calculator at elementary classes, that is literally a bad idea, cos till date, simple arithmetics that I can solve offhand, majority of the high school students today will need a calculator to solve. And it saddens my heart when I see that most of them cannot solve simple arithmetics without the use of calculator. It’s a disaster in disguise when machines have to replace our critical thinking and the use of our common sense.
There's a study recently conducted. I'll look for it and share shortly. It shows how the use of ChatGPT destroys students' critical thinking skills and is a disadvantage in long term learning.

Please I need advice. I currently use a HP 620 and it's 32 bit. I have finally been able to save up for an upgrade but I don't know if I can afford it.
I have about ₦130k to spend and these are the options I've been able to find

1. A Dell Latitude 3190 for ₦130k.

2. A HP Chromebook 11 for ₦105k.

3. A refurbished HP Stream 11 for like ₦125k.

4. I go on Jiji and get an hp elitebook (or is it ProBook) 2170p for ₦120k. But the issue is the store is in Abuja and delivery fees can get as much as ₦10k. Also, I don't know how I can test the system since I'm not there and I don't know anybody in Abuja. And I feel getting from Jumia would be safer as I can pay on delivery and stuff.

I normally use my laptop to code. Front-end dev. HTML/CSS and JS. And React. I also do some Python and I'd like to up skill.

I was able to make the old HP 620 work as I changed the OS to AntiX Linux and I've literally stretched it to its limit.

Which should I get?

I don't know if you guys remember when I shared the TLDR's voting schedule for the most influential people on the planet. Well, today I saw the results, and to nobody's surprise, no African leader made the final list.

Not Bola Tinubu. Not William Ruto. Not Cyril Ramaphosa. None of them. (although you could count Elon Musk as South African sha).

The one I did not expected was India's prime minister coming in as #5 or so. Narendra Modi.

And India used to be this insular country after their independence. Now look at them commanding global authority.

Why does Africa suck at foreign relations like this? Nigeria that's supposed to be leading the cause as the country with the most black people does not even have a clear foreign policy.

Everytime we're seeing China-Africa summit. India-Africa summit. EU-Africa summit. Everytime we're begging for foreign aid. Begging everywhere we go.

Colonialism really did us dirty sha. I don't even know what to say. Brain drain is killing this continent. Civil wars in Sudan, South Sudan. Somalia's a mess. Congo's a mess. Ethiopia's a mess. Lybia's a failed state. Kai.

But even if we were dealt a bad card with colonialism, isn't 60+ years enough to put ourselves together? Ghana that gained independence first how far? Egypt that even joined to colonise Sudan how far? Ethiopia sef that was never technically colonised how far?

Oh God...

Very simple... Provide scriptures where Jesus visited the poor in their houses. Simple.

The man said Jesus never visited the house of any poor man. Contradict this with a scripture. If you don't have... Then take the preaching and reflect on it.
An argument from silence is not enough to build a whole sermon on. Just because you can't find a scripture where it explicitly states that Jesus visited a poor person (although it can be obviously implied in several texts), it doesn't mean he never visited anyone. You can't use silence to form your whole argument.

Christianity EtcIs Deuteronomy Contradicting Numbers? Please Help Me Understand by ThatWriterBoy(op): 11:40am On Mar 04, 2025
Hello everyone!
Thanks for your explanations on my last post. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me.

So I have entered the book of Deuteronomy, and I have some questions. On the surface, it seems as though there are some discrepancies when Deuteronomy and Numbers narrate the same events.

1. In Deuteronomy 1:9-18, Moses said he was the one that suggested the Israelites split themselves into groups and select leaders to judge the case, but Exodus 18:13-27 said it was Jethro's idea. Now that I look at it, it makes sense. Perhaps it was already a known fact that Jethro gave the idea and there was no need saying it again in Deuteronomy.

2. But in Deuteronomy 1:19-25, the Israelites were the ones that suggested they send spies to explore the land and bring back a report, and in Number's 13:1-3, it says it was The LORD. In fact, in verse 3, it said Moses did as the LORD commanded him to choose the spies and all, but in Deuteronomy, Moses was like "it seemed like a good idea so I selected the spies" (1:23).

The thing is in Deuteronomy it seems as if the narrative is different. While the account in Numbers shows the great rebellion because the LORD commanded the spies to go, Deuteronomy makes it sound as if the people did something God wasn't a part of, and then it went wrong and they were forced to wander for 40 years.

Could anyone please explain to me?
Christianity EtcI Read This Disturbing Passage In Numbers And I Can't Stop Thinking About It. by ThatWriterBoy(op): 4:16pm On Mar 02, 2025
Hello everyone!
Do you remember I planned to read through the Bible this year? Well, I got bogged down in Leviticus and early Numbers but I'm back now and working hard to meet the goal.

Yesterday I read this disturbing passage in Numbers 31. After the Midianite women seduced the Israelites and they started worshipping their idols, God sent a plague that killed thousands of people until Phineas, the son of Aaron, killed one of the men and women while they were having sex.

Later on, God, through Moses, commanded the Israelites to kill everybody in Midian. Utterly destroy them. But the Israelites kept some women and children alive. When they got back to the camp, Moses was angry. He made them kill all the male children and the women who were not virgins. They kept the women who were virgins for themselves, and some were given to the Lord.

So these are my questions;
1. Wasn't Moses somehow related to the Midianites? His father-in-law Jethro was a Midianite. His wife Zipporah was a Midianite. Didn't he have family there he cared about when giving the instruction to totally wipe them out? In fact, the Bible mentions his brother-in-law Hoban in Numbers 10:29. Moses begged him to stay with them, but he decided to return to Midian to stay with his family. Was he killed too? That's wild to me.

2. I understand why God would ask them to wipe out the entire tribe and all, and I even get why they had to kill the male children too. But why did they have to share the female virgins amongst themselves? In fact, in Numbers 31:28-40, it talked about the Lord's share of which included 32 virgin girls. I thought only Levites were permitted to serve in the temple (correct me if I'm wrong) so why ?

3. I'm not comfortable with the whole genocide and all. I get it, but it's disturbing. Or maybe I'm just reading an ancient book with my 21st century mind. But then people would say the word of God remains constant. So how is it OK for the Israelites to own slaves, and even commit genocide back in the BC era and it's an abomination in the 21st century?

I'm not an atheist. I believe God is good. I'm just trying to understand. Thank you very much for your time.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by ThatWriterBoy(m): 10:38pm On Feb 06, 2025
Hello everyone! I have some issues with my PC. So I use an Ubuntu 16.04 because I use a 32-bit machine (I know it's old, but it's what I can afford and it has been serving me well since I got it except when some products that no longer support 32-bits), and recently, it's as if the right click button clicks itself.
Like, I'd be browsing or coding or doing anything and then the menu that would come up if I right-click would come up on its own. When I left-click to get it out, it would still come back over and over again until I restart the laptop. After I restart, it would behave well for some time, and then the issue will start again.
I have tried using a different socket, I have disabled the touchpad and gotten an external mouse, I have tried that testing command from my terminal to check for ghost touches, I have tried all I know to do and yet the issue persists. Please what could be wrong? How do I fix this? Is this an OS issue? Do I have to reinstall a new OS? If I have to, could you recommend one that would be best for a 32-bit laptop? Right now, I can use Python 3.8 and React 14 on my Ubuntu 16; if you can recommend one that would still let me run the same versions or even something higher, I'd be grateful.
Thank you for your time.

Hello!
So I'm waiting to go for Batch A 2025 NYSC, but I just got an opportunity to intern as a front-end developer with a company in Port Harcourt. It's not a big place and I am yet to discuss pay and all with them.

I know this current batch will finish their camp on the 11th. I would like to ask some questions to help me make a choice here.

1. What's the estimated time difference between the end of camp for one batch and the start of registrations for the next?

2. I heard that there would be Ramadan fast from February ending to March, and there's no camp within that period. How true is this?

Thank you for your time. I genuinely appreciate.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Did The Israelites Just Allow Pharoah And Egypt To Beat And Kill The Anyhow? by ThatWriterBoy(op): 11:02am On Jan 18, 2025
danvon:
Okay, in ancient Sparta there were lots of slaves, the slaves were called Helots. The thing is that these slaves were not kept in chains, they even outnumbered the Spartans and they were organized but still they were slaves. They organized revolts occasionally but they were always beat down.

Why could they not fight back?

Because they didn't have the military knowledge or training, Spartans however began their military education at the age of seven which meant they would win any battle with inexperienced slaves.

Sparta also had a specific culture of closely watching the Helots, paying attention to those who seem to have military potential and executing them.

So the reasons why the Israelites couldn't fight back was because they couldn't, any attempt to fight back would lead to serious massacres.

Moses however could fight because he wasn't raised as a slave but was raised as a prince in the palace, he probably had more military knowledge and experience than the average Israelite.
It makes sense. Do you think there's a chance they could have tried before?
