I can't possibly type everything here cos I'm browsing with my phone. And don't wanna make use of online dictionary cos I won't get to see every detail I need in this argument.

Afam4eva: I'm wonder what bearing it has on this. But i'm right on it.

Here, you have it

none
/nən/
Pronoun
Not any: "none of you want to work".
Adverb
By no amount; not at all: "it is made none the easier by the differences in approach".
Noun
A service forming part of the Divine Office of the Western Christian Church, traditionally said at the ninth hour of the day (3 p.m.).
Synonyms
pronoun. no one - nobody - neither - nothing
adverb. nothing - not at all
This is what I copied from my oxford dictionary, 8th edition.
*when you use 'none of' with an uncountable noun, the verb is in the singular: e.g None of the work was done.
*When you use 'none of' with a plural noun or pronoun, or a singular noun referring to a group of people or things; you can either use a singular or a plural verb. But the singular form is used in a formal style in BrE. e.g None of the trains is/are going to london.

Afam4eva: You mean the word 'none'?
Yea
Foreign Affairs › Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Theben(m): 12:14am On Oct 06, 2013
Afam4eva: it's actually wrong and it can be tricky. The plural in "posts" already negates the "has". When it's plural, you use "have" instead of "has" and when it's singular, you can use "has".
Even you? Please, check your dictionary and type everything you see under 'none' here. Don't alter anything abeg.

chokl8candie: huh
With petrodolla and otumfour on this thread, there sure won't be fun here. Must they respond to every insult?

Sexily Endowed: It's Have. Have is right in the context of that particular sentence.
Consult your dictionary please. Don't just take side just because it's sagamite we're up against.

I've always avoided engaging this guy in an argument cos I know it is totally impossible for him to concede defeat.

I don waste time dey argue with mad man. Choi, this mistake will never repeat itself. Oga saga, good night. Please avoid ogogoro when next you intend arguing with intellectuals. grin grin grin grin grin

Scun, please don't bother arguing with him. He's a nutcase. Educating him is like pouring water in a basket. Just read his posts and move on.

Sagamite: To these Nigerian "graduates", it is:

We has headaches
You all has headaches.
They has headaches.

grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Stop changing it. This is how you twist subjects when you are on the verge of losing an argument. You are a disgrace to your school, your family and your neighbourhood. And to think that you claim to be a graduate of one UK uni.

None of my posts has anything to do with sex.
Foreign Affairs › Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Theben(m): 11:33pm On Oct 05, 2013
Sagamite: You are a person!

You are wrong. We are not both correct! grin

Are you still laughing? Who is embarrassing himself? grin grin grin grin
You are a product of failed education system. I'm even trying to be diplomatic. In a formal writing, using a plural verb is not appropriate. Stop embarrassing your school.
Foreign Affairs › Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Theben(m): 11:30pm On Oct 05, 2013
@semhule, thanks, I just checked my dictionary and discovered that we are both right.
Foreign Affairs › Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Theben(m): 11:27pm On Oct 05, 2013
Saga, we are both correct
*when you use 'none of' with an uncountable noun, the verb is in the singular: e.g None of the work was done.

Sagamite: You are both fucktards!

So what they taught you in your failed institutions are:

1) He have nothing to do with sex? grin grin grin grin grin grin

2) His people has nothing to do with sex? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Cretinous products of a dilapidated educations system. grin
You're changing it. He is a third person singular pronoun. The verb that should follow must also be singular.

When the sentence is "None of his people ______" the verb that must follow should be singular.

*Lemme even consult my dictionary before you succeed in confusing me.
Foreign Affairs › Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Theben(m): 11:10pm On Oct 05, 2013
Sagamite: You are a person, it is "have".
Sagamite, please, just keep quiet. You're embarrassing yourself. I can't even laugh cos I'm ashamed 'for' you.
Foreign Affairs › Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Theben(m): 11:07pm On Oct 05, 2013
Sagamite: You are a person!

Once you have an "s" after post, it becomes "have". undecided

Cretinous product of a failed education system, which stinking, intellectually bereft junkyard produced you? grin
It's a pity you don't even know you're wrong. I started the sentence with 'none', irrespective of the noun/pronoun that follows, the verb must be in a singular form.
Another example is:
None of the books is here
(you have several books, but 'no one' is here)

Lemme not even stress myself, I know you won't agree with me. But I'll advise you to make your research and come back here to tell me you finding.

gbokukueba: Of cos i want everyone from around the world to be part of nairaland but when you create a thread and start chatting in Zulu, Xhosa and Sotho on a Nigerian forum... that is unacceptable. I have been to a few SA forums and they dont chat in English and i respect that by quietly deactivating my accounts now on Nairaland why will such happen?

If this is allowed then i will probably open a thread for Yoruba speakers only...
You do not have to complain. That south African thread was created for their own consumption. They are very free to communicate in whatever language they choose to. Those who find it uncomfortable to stay there have the liberty to move to another thread. You mustn't comment on every NL thread.
