President Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday this year’s general elections would not be “a do-or-die affair”, telling Nigerians to go to the polls without trepidation.

He also said his government was committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections.

Buhari said some persons were spreading “falsehoods” and creating bad blood in the country, believing that doing so would upstage him at the presidential poll.

He said such persons were “fighting a losing battle”.

The President stated these in his New Year message.

Buhari, who described 2018 as a year of mixed blessings for the country, said he was hopeful that this year would be much better.

On the elections starting on February 16, Buhari stated, “2019 will be an election year for us. In about two months, the polls are due, and we will elect leaders to various offices, at national and state levels.

“As I welcome you into 2019, I also reiterate my many promises and declarations that the general elections will be free, fair and credible.

“Elections need not be a do-or-die affair, and we should not approach that eventuality in a democracy with trepidation and mortal fear. Happily, a large number of presidential candidates have committed to peace, and peace we shall have.

“Those who continue to trumpet falsehood and negativity are on their own, fighting a losing battle. The greater number of Nigerians are trusting and believing that we shall deliver on our promises for a level playing field at the polls, and that is what we shall do.”

Buhari said he would unfold his New Year’s plans, adding that Nigeria desired peace for the much-need economic and infrastructural development to be delivered to the citizenry.

He added, “We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers a precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stocktaking and reflection on the goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year.

“The dawn of a new year is also a time to look forward. To consider new prospects, unfold our plans, and prepare for landmark dates and events.

“Nigerians desire peace, security, prosperity, inclusiveness and infrastructural development, a nation they can be proud of, a country that can hold its own among nations.

“That is the journey we have embarked on since we came on board in 2015, and we are not distracted as we move on.

“We are resolved to build a country in which the resources are utilised for the benefit of the largest number, and not appropriated by a privileged few in their never-ending quest to satisfy their greed.

“We are on this mission together, and I assure you of a firm commitment to the ideals of a safe, secure, fair, just and prosperous country.”

Nigerian singer, Dr. Sid and his wife, Simi Esiri have welcomed thier second child, a baby girl.

Simi took to Instagram to reveal that their little princess, named Sarah, was born on Christmas eve at 3:42am. She shared photos of Sarah with their first daughter, Sidney who was born in 2015, and wrote:

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the large crowd that received President Muhammadu Buhari at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, showed that Buhari cannot be defeated in next year’s presidential election

According to him, the South-South people trooped out to witness the commencement of Buhari’s campaign because they appreciated Buhari’s “sterling achievements” in office in the last three and a half years.

Ambode said Buhari had laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s economic development and growth, adding that his re-election in 2019 could only translate into improved infrastructure, economy, security and anti-corruption drive.

A statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, quoted Ambode to have said this in an interview with journalists in Uyo during the presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress.

He said, “This is a great day for democracy and good governance in Nigeria. The crowd that came to the stadium for the rally eloquently reaffirms the invincibility status of President Buhari.

“If such a large crowd could gather at the stadium to receive the President in the South-South, it means the people have seen the light which President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo represent for this country.

“What I want Nigerians to know and appreciate is that the re-election of Buhari/Osinbajo in 2019 can only translate to improved security, economy, quality infrastructure and massive scaling up of anti-corruption drive, among others.

Juventus and Portuguese star striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to score 50 goals in a year for first time in 8 years.

Since 2011 Ronaldo, while playing for Real Madrid and Portugal maintained a record of netting over 50 goals from January to December.

However, the 33-year-old scored 49 times this season while playing in Madrid and now Juventus in Serie A.

Ronaldo moved to Juventus at the start of the season in a deal worth around £88.3million which ended his eight year run in Madrid.

During the Portuguese captain’s time in Madrid he won three league titles and four Champions League trophies.

Ronaldo’s greatest goal scoring season was in 2013 where the forward netted 69 goals.

The Euro 2016 winner also received five Ballon d’Or awards during his time in Spain’s capital with only Lionel Messi winning the prize the same amount times.

Ronaldo has netted 15 times in his 26 games in all competitions this season including a Champions League strike against his former club Manchester United.

The 33-year-old has played down the middle on occasions for Juventus this season while starting regular in his traditional left-wing position.

The Peoples Democratic Party and the Coalition of United Political Parties have condemned the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria’s endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid for a second term in office.

The association’s endorsement came during its 5th General Meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

The National President, MACBAN, Alhaji Muhammadu Kirowa, had said the association’s decision to support the President was because “no administration had looked into our plight the way President Buhari has done since the inception of the association.”

But the CUPP’s first national spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, said while the endorsement did not come to the opposition political parties as a surprise, they were shocked that Buhari could accept such endorsement.

He argued that by accepting the endorsement, the President had proved that he was not concerned about the lives lost through the activities of some members of the association.

He added, “The endorsement did not come to us as a surprise. The next people that will endorse Buhari are Boko Haram members.”

The PDP also said the endorsement might be a way to show appreciation to the President for reportedly keeping quiet over the alleged killings the herdsmen had visited on innocent Nigerians in the past.

The action, it said, would remind Nigerians of the alleged killings of innocent Nigerians by the violent herdsmen.

Alhough the PDP acknowledged that some herdsmen “are not in support of the killings and forceful takeover of people’s land,” it said the President had never openly castigated the violent herders for the evil they had been visiting on innocent Nigerians.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, who spoke with one of our correspondents on Saturday, asked Nigerians to be ready for what he described as “tough time” with elections drawing nearer.

He added that the President might be claiming endorsement from individuals and groups without consulting them.

He said, “The so-called endorsement reminds us of many killings by the herdsmen which were never condemned by the President Buhari-led Federal Government. It also reminds of sorrows and cries by relations of those that had been killed.”

According to TMZ, Kanye made a deal to buy a mega-unit in a super, super exclusive Miami Beach condo building, dubbed “Billionaire Beach Bunker” for Kim.
The 18-story building is occupied by hedge fund gazillionaires and ridiculously rich land developers.
Kim and Kanye are said to have been on the hunt in the Miami area for a while, looking for a place. Kanye has fairly deep ties to the city. He’s a regular at Art Basel.
Kim liked the unit and Kanye secretly made the offer this month and surprised Kim with it on Christmas day.
The unit sounds awesome. It’s 4,700 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths and an insanely large terrace. The building is tricked out with a gym, pool and spa. The deal is set to close next month.

After continuously denying that he assaulted Kizz Daniel’s manager, with several people confirming that he actually did, Davido now wished he’d in fact, slapped the said gentleman.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has explained why its officers are currently laying seige outside the Abuja home of Senator Dino Melaye.

A statement from Police spokesman, DCP Jimoh Moshood, said Dino was declared wanted by the force to answer questions regarding an attempted culpable homicide.

According to Jimoh, Dino and his thugs had tried to kill a police sergeant Danjuma Saliu while he was on duty in Kogi state on 19th July 2018. The police spokesperson said Dino has been invited by the Kogi state police command to answer questions regarding this case but has bluntly refused to honor their invitation.

“The Police operatives currently in the residence of Senator Dino Melaye are to effect his arrest to answer to the case of attempted culpable homicide on the shooting of a Police Officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi state.

“The above offence was committed by Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs in Kogi State on the 19th July, 2018 when they shot and wounded a police officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi state.

“The Police Officer is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care. The Police investigators have written the Clerk of the National Assembly for Senator Dino Melaye to report at Kogi State Police Command, CIID, Lokoja for him to answer to these offences against him under investigation in Kogi State Police Command but he has bluntly refused to report himself to the Police.

Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom earlier today for a rally marking the kick-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign themed Next Level.

On the President’s entourage are chieftains of the party led by the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and a host of others including some states governors..

Adams Oshiomhole and governor Rochas Okorocha who have been at loggerheads with other over the outcome of the APC governorship primaries in Imo state, appeared to avoid each other and gave themselves distance at the rally holding in Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Okorocha had earlier said his ‘issue’ with Oshiomhole was that he allegedly “stole the mandate” of the people of the state and “gave it away for reasons best known to him.”

The governor stated that the name APC presented as its governorship candidate was not the choice of people of the state. According to Okorocha, Oshiomhole gave the party’s tickets in the state to people who are not members of APC.
