Hello Theveez, Sorry, I don't know anything about Wevesti.com. Are you based in Nigeria or the U.S.? Mine was processed from the states, so my experience will be quite different from those doing the process from Nigeria. |

Frothy: Did your online portal update with visa stamping? We submitted to Lagos VFS on November 1st, but no communication so far. We paid for return envelope. |

Misstoffee: UK visa application is becoming a mess like some other countries with not so good track record. I used to credit them for prompt treatment of applications, though with ridiculous charges. He has sent message to tlscontact nigeria (UK in Nigeria). |

Misstoffee: You are not alone on this. A relative had his biometrics on September 17th and got the conclusion email on October 8th. His online account still shows that the decision has not been transferred to VAC. He too paid for courier delivery. |

questechie: Wave is way better than xoom. As of today 7/23/2019 (9AM Mountain Time), the exchange rate for xoom is 1$ to N350 plus $4.99 transaction fee for sending $100 to Nigeria. However, for wave, the exchange rate is $1 to 353 with no transaction fee. With wave, sending $100 will deliver N35,300 to your recipient in Nigeria and you pay no transaction fee. In contrast, sending the same amount with Xoom will deliver N35,000 with $4.99 as transaction fee. |

rolie46: Congratulations on your employment offer! While no one here has definitive answer as to what questions you might be asked at the embassy, I will advise you about the following: Display a good grasp of every detail listed on your resume. Learn about the company you plan to join in the States. This might include what they do, your role in advancing their mission, why you consider them as a good company to join etc. You should also demonstrate to the Consular Officer that you understand the type of visa for which you are interviewing. This is because U.S. grants many work visas and there are various terms to each of those visas. Good luck on your interview! 1 Like |

jacksam: I have once stated in this thread that 'it will be great to see those who have the means to stick to what brought them here in the first place." I totally agree with you that many Nigerians lost their track immediately they got here due to circumstances that include life/self imposed (as previously stated in my other post). We have seen many sons and daughters of well to do Nigerians, who have both the mental and financial capacity to complete their education but abandoned their dreams. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Devilcalibour: True be told those Asian folks have better track record when it comes to IT or anything that has to do with numbers in comparison to an average Nigerian. Having said that, H1B is not limited to the field of technology as there are many fields that Nigerians excel as well. It's all about finding your niche. |

Naijaforeigner: Looking for where to work in the summer and open to changing school. The reason she considers changing school is her area is dry and after summer she will still like to continue with her 20 hour student job. Plus, if she is to find a job outside her current geographical location, then the best option will be to terminate her lease and move to the new location and find a school there. I sent you PM and replied to your email, sorry if you didn't get it. We can chat via email strictly about this in order not to derail the thread. |

Goldenboy007: We should not be fooled that the Trump's new immigration proposal is genuinely crafted to bring skilled and highly educated legal immigrants to the US. To me, is all about deviding and rule tactics. He wants certain category of immigrants to feel as if they're welcomed in his type of America and others as unwelcomed. This tactics serve as cover up for his xenophobic belief. If he says he favors this type of immigrants, then why making life difficult for those who are currently pursuing what he claims to prefer. E.g. there are now higher denial rates for H1b applicants (not talking only about those outsourcing foriegn companies that sometimes abuse the visa) compared to pre-Trump era. Also, if you are lucky to be selected for the visa, transitioning to green card is saddled with another beauractic craziness. One of those craziness is that you will still be called to appear for interview not minding that you have been exhaustively vetted by the same institution wanting to interview you. All this adds to processing time and and cost for you and your employer. 2 Likes 1 Share |

sleekysoft: @naijaforeigner & co who are currently schooling in Ontario! A sister of mine just finished her second semester and has been looking for student jobs for the summer. She is open to transfer to school in Toronto area as there are limited opportunities in Windsor. I will be glad if anyone can connect her with openings in your area. I live in the U.S., so there is little I can do other than to help her financially. P.S. She is able to pay for her rent immediately if she needs to move to where there are job opportunities. Thank you in advance. |

stevewale: I'm glad people are commenting on the topic. What prompted me to create this topic is that we have thousands of Nigerians on F1 Visa and I always wonder where do most of these students ended up since our student status does not correlate with the pool of candidates seeking work visa such as H1b. We can only conclude that majority always end up using marriage as their last/only option to secure their green card. This type of scenerio reminds me of football in Africa, where we dominate any age based competitions but could not be found anywhere when it comes to competitions that have no age restriction. I can't blame these students because H1b route is fraught with various complexities and uncertainties, plus as humans we often take the easiest route. However, the problem with marriage in most cases is you will be tied down with someone whom you shared nothing in common but have to behave as if everything is okay. Most of these girls (in most cases) or guys (in limited cases) often rip you off of your money, body and time because your stay depends on them. I could remember when I came in 2013 we had about 10 Nigerians in my school, but only two of us graduated as the remaining opted for marriage. Not because I too didn't want to do the same but because I had my wife back in Nigeria then. Also because I was lucky to secure funding after one year of self sponsorship. One of the problems for Africans is that there is not much places to turn to for educational funding. Most of these asian students flooding US schools came from humble background like us but because they were able to secure loans in their various countries and have little to worry about paying tuition or daily expenses. Hence, they often graduate in higher rate and pursue their respective dreams compared to students of African descent. What I have noticed is that once you are tied down with someone to secure your legal stay, then there is higher chance you will be abandoning your dream that brought you here in the first place. But, and I mean this, you have to do what is needed and apply Maslow's hierarchy of need, if every other door has been shut on you. That is, no more funding from home or other place. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Spygadgets19: Like I have stated in my previous post, it is difficult applying to jobs offshore, but that doesn't make it impossible. It's more difficult for Africans as most of these western employers oftentimes have negative perspective dealing with people from the continent. The Indians and Chinese who form the larger bulk of the people in the pool come mostly from Indian outsourcing companies like Tata& Infosys. They brought these people in from abroad because they know each other. I have no doubt if there are African companies with offices in the U.S. there will be higher chances for people of African background to get recruited. With the absence of that (in my opinion), one is left to apply to companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft and the likes due to their global outreach/hiring practice. The drawback about those big companies is that you will be competing with the cream of the crop. Big universities and hospitals are other paths to consider in getting this type of visa. I'm in academics and I have been on some hiring committees, hence I know if you stood out during the hiring process many employers will be willing to sponsor you. There are many Nigerians who hold high ranking positions in different universities across the U.S. and some of them were sponsored by their employers. 2 Likes 1 Share |

hammed71: Your field of expertise goes a long way in determining how easy or difficult the process might be, as one will need to prove there is no qualified American or permanent resident willing and available to take the job. The popular field for this type of visa has been the STEM field. But, I consider academic field such as college/university lecturer equally a good field to secure the visa. 3 Likes |

Thegamingorca: Nothing much compatriot! Glad that there is one (you) there following this route as marriage and family sponsorship have always been the popular routes for Africans. Everywhere you check (quora included) and you would think H1 visa is meant for only Indians..... I arrived few years ago for a graduate program and was lucky to secure sponsorship from an employer. I just started the process for my green card and I found that this might take about two years or more to achieve due to the current government's disposition to every immigrant in the country. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I don't know if there is a topic about H1B visa on this platform but I have searched and could not find one. There is no denying the fact that both indians and chinese dominate the pool for employment based visa in the U.S., but I believe there are Nigerians pursuing this highly coveted work visa/permanent residency. I'm pursuing my American dream through this path and would like to hear/share ideas with other Nigerians with similar experience. Thank you! 7 Likes 1 Share |
