Nigeria's former military and civilian rulers leaders failed to diversify the economy. The economy has overdependence on the capital-intensive oil sector, which provides 80% of GDP, 95% of foreign exchange earnings, and about 65% of government revenues. The largely subsistence agricultural sector has not kept up with rapid population growth, and Nigeria, once a large net exporter of food, now imports some of its food products. The past governments had an opportunity to provide the real relief to the Nigerian people in a time of great economic uncertainty. But once again, parochial, partisan, and special interests have taken precedence over the interests of the Nigerian people.

The Solution

Rebuild our economy on a new, sustainable foundation: President Goodluck will offer a good-faith alternative plan, which will receive the support of all Nigerians. His recent reform programme will not rebuild our economy on the old model of bubbles and busts. The nation will only climb out of the current crisis by creating a new, sustainable foundation for our economy's future -- and make the tough choices to put our economy back on the road to long-term prosperity. This plan includes targeted, fiscally responsible provisions to invest in our nation’s infrastructure and reduce taxes on individuals and businesses. Additionally, this plan would put in place long-term mechanisms to help us control future spending and balance our budget.

II. Electricity Power

The Current Situation

It is not news that Nigeria is having an electricity power crisis. It will be forthright about what the government need to do to resolve the crisis and how it can be done. For too long, politicians in Abuja have been beholden to special interests. The past military and civilian administration could not deliver on government’s promise to generate minimum megawatts of electricity for the Nigerian people and their families to ease their suffering.

The Solution

President Goodluck tends to continue with his power reform programme by putting in place a new comprehensive plan to outline a fresh electricity power future by making unprecedented investments in order to provide power to millions of Nigerians across the country. He will hold special interests and fraudulent individuals accountable for any attempt to jeopardise government’s efforts at providing Nigerians with adequate electricity. President Goodluck from 2011 also intends to critically look the introduction of new policies that will decentralise the generation, transmission and distribution of power in the country with total deregulation to make life easier for Nigerians.

Nigeria faces a bright future in the 21st century, but it is pertinent to address the security issues and problems capable of affecting the attitude, confidence and cooperation of all groups that makes up the Nigerian federation. Some of the major security problems currently confronting the nation have been identified to include: political and electioneering conflicts, socio-economic agitations, ethno-religious crises, ethnic militias, boundary disputes, cultism, criminality and organised crimes.

The Solution

Nigeria needs experienced leadership to confront these myriad security challenges. President Jonathan has been a leader on state and national security issues for decades, and his judgment in the presidency will be essential to protect the life of Nigerians and their family. President Jonathan Goodluck will fight to ensure we do not squander the success that has been achieved by the Nigeria’s armed forces in the Niger Delta. The current state of our health system is quite worrisome. Nigeria has been reorganizing its health system since the Bamako Initiative of 1987 formally promoted community-based methods of increasing accessibility of drugs and health care services to the population.The Nigerian health care system is also continuously faced with a shortage of doctors known as 'brain drain' due to the fact that many highly skilled Nigerian doctors emigrate to North America and Europe. Retaining these expensively trained professionals has been identified highly impossible task by the past governments. Another challenge facing our healthcare system is the nefarious activities of quacks, fake drugs, and poor health care delivery in many private practice settings and some public health institutions.

The Solution

President Jonathan Goodluck knows that the longer we wait to the address these challenges, the more difficult reform will be. We will take urgent steps to arrest the ugly trend within the health sector by creating enabling environment that promotes patriotism among our professionals. President Jonathan administration will liaise constantly with health authorities to strengthen the mechanisms that will check quackery in medical practice and clamp down on every facility - private or public that cannot offer safe health care to our people.

His Government will pursue legislations that will incur very stringent punishment to offenders involved in fake drug business. President Jonathan Goodluck will strive to ensure that we preserve the best of our health care system but reform those aspects of our policies most in need of improvement. The Current Situation

One of the great tragedies of the last decades is the collapse of an education system which was founded on sound developmental goals. Nigeria has been plagued by frequent political unrest. This political instability has generated negative effects on the education system. Although education had been in crisis for many years, the situation has recently been made worse by frequent strikes staged by students, faculty and teachers. Much of the difficulty lies in the fact that the sector is poorly funded. This result in shortages of material and human resources for education: lack of qualified teachers; a brain drain from the public sector; few instructional inputs, shortage of classrooms, and a host of other problems.

The Solution

We will prepare the next generation for success in Primary, Secondary, University and the workforce, ensuring that Nigeria children lead the world once again in imagination and accomplishment. We will pull in more effort and resources towards the development of education in educating and re-orientation of teachers, parents and students for utmost performance.

We will create more vocational and technical education centres and the few existing ones properly equipped and staffed. We will provide for Qualitative and affordable education be made available for all. We will invest in human capital to increase the ability to absorb and use knowledge; and also Invest in technologies to facilitate both acquisition and the absorption of knowledge. President Jonathan administration will recruit large numbers of new teachers and develop innovative ways to reward teachers who are doing a great job.

VI. War Against Corruption

The Current Situation

There are many unresolved problems in Nigeria, but the issue of the upsurge of corruption is troubling. And the damages it has done to the polity are astronomical. Corruption is one of the most widespread social evils in Nigeria; it is seen as a main threat in the public and private sphere. Corruption undermines fragile democratic systems by fuelling popular disillusionment with politics and politicians; it also undermines trust and confidence, which are necessary for upholding and development of sustainable economic and social order.

Corruption is not only peculiar to Nigeria, it is a global phenomenon. The menace of corruption leads to slow movement of files in offices, police extortion tollgates and slow traffics on the highways, port congestion, queues at passport offices and gas stations, ghost workers syndrome, election irregularities, among others. Thus, it is believed by many in the society that corruption is the bane of Nigeria. Consequently, the issue keeps reoccurring in every academic and informal discussion in Nigeria. And the issue will hardly go away!

The Solution

President Jonathan Goodluck will continue to renew confidence in the government to combat and reduce financial crimes and other corrupt practices; foreign investors have the guarantee of achieving their objectives in Nigeria. We will develop an anti-corruption war that relies on forensic evidence, well-trained personnel and that is free of unnecessary controversies. We will ensure that the nation’s anti-graft legislations are designed to make corruption unattractive. There will be new legislations that would compel citizens to live within their verifiable means.
