Business › Why Ladies Prefer Fairly Used Pants, Brassieres by themomentng(op): 3:50pm On Dec 09, 2016
Some ladies said they prefer buying fairly used pants and brassieres because they were durable and could get good bargain from market.
They disclosed in separate interviews on Friday in Lagos that their preference for fairly used pants and bras was due to the fact that such products were genuine and last longer than new ones.
Mrs. Ann Adedeji, who was at Ikotun Central Market in Lagos, said that apart from durability, most of the fairly used pants and bras had trendy designs and were colourful.
She said, “I get more colourful bras and pants that are most times not available in boutiques and at the same time I get value for my money as they are durable.
“You can only get unique bra designs here because the Ikotun Central Market is the main place for fairly used underwears.”
Mrs. Victoria Adejo, who was also at the market, said that it was after she suffered an embarrassing experience with a new bra that she decided to make do with fairly used ones.
She said the hook of the bra she was wearing came-off while she was in a meeting in the office and was left in uncomfortable position all through the meeting.
“Since that incident, I stopped buying panties and bras from boutiques,’’ she said.
Mrs. Oluchi Onwuka, who sells used panties in Ikotun Market, said she never regretted venturing into the business.
She said, “it is a profitable business and I am growing in it.
“I have boutique owners who come to buy in bulk; they wash and package them and resell at exorbitant rates and I am aware.”
Miss Damilola Madu, who also deals in fairly used panties and bras, also says the underwears are durable and cheaper than new ones.
Madu added that used bras held the breast firmly and the elasticity was retained for a very long time, unlike new ones.
“Used undies are cheaper and last longer than new ones; that is the reason people come for it,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ayoola Adeyemi, a dermatologist, warned against the use of fairly used bras and pants, saying it could cause bacterial infections.
The doctor noted that since the health status of the initial user could not be verified, it would be advisable for individuals to desist from such acts.
She added that “some bacterial infections could occur when we use fairly used panties because the health history of the initial user was not known.
“Skin rashes, eczema, syphilis and other bacterial infections may occur,” she said.

Romance › AIDS Control Agency Donates 7000 Condoms To Plateau NUJ by themomentng(op): 3:41pm On Dec 08, 2016
The Plateau AIDS Control Agency, PLACA, on Thursday donated 7000 Condoms and other sensitive materials to the Plateau Council of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, saying the aim is to assist in the control the scourge of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, AIDS.
The Acting Executive Director PLACA, Mr Sunday Markus, during the event, said journalists are the mouthpiece of the society, hence, the need to sensitize them on the deadly disease, so they can better communicate the message to the wider society.
Markus posited that for the media to educate people on the subject matter, they also need to know their HIV status and go through the counseling exercise.
“Journalists are essential partners on the war against the deadly scourge called HIV and AIDS and once you neglect the media, then, we are missing it wrongly.
“That is why we have said all journalists must know their HIV status and one of the ways to get them to check their status is to offer free screening and counseling to all media practitioners within our reach”.
He also said that a comprehensive training and lecture will be given to newsmen as a guide to prevention, adding that once journalists are abreast with basic information on the killer disease, then, they can disseminate the information and educate others.
However, the PLACA boss revealed that early detection and treatment can stop the carrier from transmitting the virus to another person, adding that researchers have come up with a drug that can reduce the effect of the virus and prevent it from onward transmission.
“Once there is an early detection and treatment is administered between six to one year consecutively, the patient will live a normal life and cannot transmit the virus to another person,” the PLACA boss said.
Also speaking, Dr. David Lass, of Jordan Hospital, who are providing free eye checkup for journalists and also other citizens who availed themselves, advised journalists to always find time to go for eye checkup as they use their eyes most for their job.
Lass further advised that eyes being delicate organs of the body, need to be treated with utmost care, saying “we are suppose to know the kind of diet we eat, to keep healthy eyes”.
Responding, the Plateau Council Chairman of the NUJ, Mr. Yakubu Taddy, thanked both PLACA and Jordan Hospital for the gesture, urging journalists to take advantage of the free medical assistance to know their health status.

Business › Heritage Bank Safe And Sound, Says Sekibo by themomentng(op): 4:04pm On Dec 05, 2016
Battling unrelenting social media attacks, suggesting insolvency, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Bank Plc, Mr. Ifie Sekibo, has assured customers that the commercial bank was safe, sound and liquid.
Sekibo spoke in Lagos and assured all customers of the bank of the safety of their funds, promising that the young financial institution would not compromise on its quality services at all time.
The bank CEO, who also explained the involvement of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, with the bank, said the politician’s shares had been diluted.
Sekibo also denied that he was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for any crime, explaining that the anti-graft agency only called him to clarify a transaction by Enterprise Bank, which Heritage Bank acquired in 2014.
Clarifying the liquidity status of his bank, Sekibo said although the initial take-off of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) affected the liquidity level of the banking industry, the situation could not be termed illiquidity.
He explained: “We are strong as a financial institution, we have very good shareholders’ fund, we are profitable and we would remain profitable. Customers’ deposits are safe and there is nothing wrong with the bank. We meet every obligation and we are a service company in the business of banking. The customer is priority and customers’ safety influences our decision and we are destined for great things.”
He said in spite of the harsh economic recession in the country that the banking industry had had its own fair share of its negative effects, Heritage Bank remained liquid and able to meet its obligations to its customers
According to him, “It is not true that we are illiquid, we have always been liquid. It is true that the whole industry faced some form of liquidity challenge when we all moved monies into the Treasury Single Account. So, a customer makes a request overnight for N2 billion or N3 billion, and you tell him to allow you pay him over two days, and they shout, thinking it is illiquidity. It is not! It has to do with the management of your liquidity position.”
Sekibo protested negative media reports, particularly the social media that had given the impression that the bank was challenged.
“But we dare to say that since June that this negative press started and till today, our doors have not closed for one day,” he said firmly, adding: “Every customer that comes in, gets his money.”
Admitting that there were moments when payments were delayed for a few hours, he said this was normal in banking when liquidity had to be managed.
“Naturally, you gauge your inflows and outflows and know how to manage them. And if anybody would look at it, we have over this period because of the negative press, not that the negative press are true, raising people’s anxiety, some took their money away from the bank, and when they found out that nothing happened to the bank, they brought back their monies,” he said.
Sekibo explained: “In that outflow period, over N300 billion left our system and came back into our system, because people have realised that it is all false. First, they said the next bank the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would take over was going to be Heritage Bank. It is not true! The central bank cleared that issue. Again, some people believe that if you don’t sell foreign exchange (FX) to them, then you are illiquid.”
The Heritage Bank boss, who noted that FX scarcity is a general problem in the industry, stated that the fact that a bank was not able to source the amount of FX demanded by a customer, either from the central bank or other sources, did not mean the bank had liquidity problem.
Sekibo traced the bad press suffered by the bank in recent times to its acquisition of Enterprise Bank, but he insisted that the board of Heritage Bank had no regret for the transaction.
According to him, “We made a wise business decision to acquire Enterprise Bank and we have not regretted that decision because we have been able to leverage on the 160 branch network of the defunct bank. I must, however, add here that although the acquisition remains one of our remarkable business decisions, the challenge we have is with the people whom we inherited.
“When we acquired the bank, we ensured that we retained its workforce and integrated them into ours at a time we had just 11 branches. We said after a year we would evaluate these staff and those who don’t identify and can’t fit into our overall business vision would have to go. We have concluded that now and each time we want to implement this key business decision, we begin to experience a lot of negative press reports. This is more than a coincidence.”
On Saraki’s status with the bank, he explained: “When our group of investors approached the owners of the defunct Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria (SGBN) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to buy and resuscitate it, it was agreed that as core investors, we were allowed 80 per cent of the shares, the original owners, including Saraki were allowed 11 per cent and depositors had nine per cent.
“When we decided to go public through private placement, Saraki’s shares were further reduced to 4 per cent and at the very last public offer his shares and those of his group of earlier investors further reduced to less than one per cent. This is because Saraki did not buy any additional shares to add to his portfolio and so his shares gradually have diluted to less than one per cent.”
He also said the allegation that he was under investigation by the EFCC over money laundering was false, saying he had never been invited by the agency over such matter.
Sekibo, however, admitted that he had, alongside other banks’ CEOs visited the commission in connection with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) FX account totalling $85 million previously lodged with Enterprise Bank, which they had acquired.
“That transaction happened in 2012, and as at 2012, I was not even an MD of a bank. I couldn’t have laundered money I was not part of,” he explained.
On the bank’s alleged inability to fund the foreign exchange needs of its customers, the managing director said the situation was exaggerated.
“So, somebody saying if you don’t sell FX, that means you are illiquid, it doesn’t add up that way. Are my customers who have domiciliary accounts with me satisfied? Yes they are. Am I able to fund Letters of Credit (LCs) that are legitimate? Yes, I am. Am I able to give credit to customers that need them? Yes I am,” he said.
He added: “So, if I am doing all these, natural banking and traditional banking, where then is the illiquidity that anybody is talking about. Naturally, when people hear that there is a problem, they rush to the doors of the bank and even the slightest service failures could make people believe it is true. But when you correct the service failure and naturally everything is going on well, then you ask, where is this story coming from?
“So, we are saying there is no such thing as illiquidity and we are not insolvent. We are very liquid, we are meeting our obligation and we would continue to meet our obligations. No bank today can say every customer that comes into their banking hall, they can pay them all. And when you have a challenging situation like we have today, the chances are that there would be gaps here and there, but in the long-run, you meet your obligation and pay them, which is most important to the customers.”
Sekibo threw more light on the allegation that his bank had been relying heavily on funding from the interbank market, saying the bank had never been out of the clearing house since it opened for business.
“In today’s market, if I have to take money from bank B, I would give them treasury bills in replacement. It is a treasury play. If I say bank A, give me N1 billion, I must give bank A N1 billion worth of treasury bills. That is in lieu of cash. When I get my cash, I return back my N1 billon and collect back my treasury bills and keep. When they don’t have, they would give me same treasury bills and I give them cash. That is what the interbank market is all about.
“Now, some banks have relationship with other banks that don’t require them to give treasury bills, just the money. We call that clean lines. As a new bank, I don’t have a clean line with anybody. So, every bank that gives me N1, I give them corresponding treasury bills, which means I must be strong. So, while you call it borrowing, for us, it is a treasury play,” he said.

Sports › Nigeria’s Super Falcons Beat Cameroon To Win 8th African Title by themomentng(op): 8:34pm On Dec 03, 2016
Nigeria won the 2016 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for an eighth time after a 1-0 win over hosts Cameroon in front of a 40,000 capacity crowd in Yaounde.
A late goal from Desire Oparanozie was enough for Nigeria to retain the trophy they won in Namibia two years ago.
The Super Falcons have dominated this competition, winning all but two of the 10 editions played so far.
In a repeat of the 2014 final, Cameroon finished as runners-up again despite enjoying massive home support.
In front of Cameroon president Paul Biya, the hosts had the best of the first half, with a number of chances for Aboudi Onguene, but the Indomitable Lionesses failed to make the most of their opportunities.
In the second half, Oparanozie, who also scored Nigeria’s winner against South Africa in their semi-final, hit the decisive goal again when she broke the deadlock seven minutes from time.
She followed through on a pass from the tournament’s leading scorer Asisat Oshoala to give her team the trophy.
The winning goal from Nigeria was a huge blow for the hosts and the thousands of fans who filled the 40,000 capacity Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium more than five hours before kick-off.
Security in the stadium was stepped up for the final because of the presence of President Paul Biya and roads were blocked for several kilometres around the stadium since early morning.
Thousands more supporters were locked outside after tickets were given out free as “invites”.
There were three fan parks around Yaounde set up for people to see the game.
Ghana finished as bronze medallists after a 1-0 win over South Africa on Friday.

Celebrities › I’ll Give Marriage Another Shot –toke Makinwa by themomentng(op): 8:21pm On Dec 03, 2016
Popular On-Air Personality, OAP, Toke Makinwa, has said she may consider getting married again.
Toke’s 18-month-old marriage to Maje Amaju Ayida hit the rocks when the latter impregnated his longtime girlfriend, Anita Solomon.
The 31-year-old recently officially divorced her husband over adultery, cruelty and irreconcilable differences.
In a chat with Encomium, the popular OAP, who recently revealed shocking experiences she had before her divorce, said she has not given up on marriage.
Asked if she could ever give marriage another shot, she said, “It was a journey, we all go through different stages, we learn from them.
“Marriage is a beautiful thing. Next time we would be talking, I might be a married woman, who knows. Life is a journey. You are allowed to grow, it is a journey of growth, and be open, do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it, so that you can learn from your mistakes, become who you are supposed to be.”
On her perception about marriage, she said, “It is a beautiful institution. I am not coming from a bitter place, you would accept what happened.
“For me, it might be a marriage, for the next person, it might be a sick child. The most important thing is what you do with what you learnt from the situation.
“You are allowed to grow, it is a journey of growth, and be open, do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it, so that you can learn from your mistakes, become who you are supposed to be.”
Speaking further, she said, “No one should see that your life is not perfect but I am here to change that. People should see you in your worst, which is how they can appreciate your success story. People should see you when you are down and under because you would still come up.
“If you reach the bottom, there is only one place to go which is the top. We need to eradicate shaming people to silence, most especially women. Women are held in high esteem.
“You can’t show to the world that you are heartbroken, you can’t show to the world that your marriage is not perfect, because people would look at you and think there is something wrong with you. But there is nothing wrong with that person.
“She is walking through life. She is becoming what she is supposed to be. It is important that we unmask ourselves, let go off this tradition because people die in silence. There is more to life than the shame.”
The OAP, popularly known for her online vlog, was recently backlashed after she literally advised youths in their 20’s to live their life to the fullest.
She had said: “Get a tattoo, kiss a stranger, have a one-night stand, party hard.”
But responding to criticisms generated by the advice, she said, “I was being misunderstood and that was also acceptable. I can’t reach everyone and by telling them this is what I meant.
“It is not every dog that barks at you that you throw a stone at. I was trying to say to people don’t take yourself serious, live and let live.”

Culture › Abuja Carnival Records Poor Turnout by themomentng(op): 5:06pm On Dec 03, 2016
The Abuja Carnival which began on Saturday recorded poor turnout of FCT residents.
Some of the residents who spoke with the ‎News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the carnival should not be the priority of the Federal Government, and that measures should be taken to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.
NAN reports that this year’s carnival was devoid of the usual funfare that used to characterise the event.
NAN also observed that some designated streets of the FCT that were usually decorated for the carnival were left bare as they were not decorated.
Samuel Olawale, who was at a newspaper vendor’s stand while the street procession was going on, said that though there was a bit of awareness on the carnival, “but the citizens are hungry’’.
“I am aware of the carnival, flyers were distributed, but it is not masquerade dance that people want to hear.
“The president should know ‎that people are hungry and are more interested in putting food on their table,’’ he said.
Afolabi Alade, a taxi driver around Area ‎One, however disagreed with the respondent above, saying there was no public awareness.
“Other years when the carnival held, you would have seen the obvious signs on the road‎ that carnival is holding.
“This time around, we did not see the signs compared to other years where the Police would have barricaded the roads and vacate us from our parks,’’ Mr. Alade said.
According to him, the low awareness can be attributed to lack of interest from the Presidency to project the carnival.
Naeema Abduraman, a spectator also agreed that the turnout was low and not really eventful considering the insecurity in the country‎.
“The carnival does not look eventful and people did not come out that much unlike the previous years.
“There is also insecurity in the country which will discourage people from participating.
“The most of it all is that the economic situation of the country is so bad and people will prefer to satisfy hunger before coming for carnival,’’ Mr. Abduraman said.
Blessing Ayiba-Dusa, the Head Research, Documentation and Publication‎, Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, also agreed that the turnout of participants was poor, compared to previous years.
Mrs. Ayiba-Dusa noted that celebrating the heritage and culture of the country was the common goal of the carnival.
“People didn’t really come out for the carnival and for sure it is due to the hardship in the country,” she said.
“Whatever the situation is, the most important thing is that we are here to celebrate the common heritage and culture of our country.
“Bayelsa State is not regretting participating in the carnival, because we are celebrating one Nigeria,’’ she said.
NAN reports that the carnival is expected to end on Dec. 6. (NAN)

Business › Behold! The Man Behind MMM Nigeria Is A Pastor by themomentng(op): 6:17pm On Dec 02, 2016
A self-styled Nigerian pastor, Ernest Chigozie Mbanefo, has been identified as the mastermind of the suspected Ponzi scheme known as MMM Nigeria.
Mbanefo’s domain, which is one of the multiple MMM sites in Nigeria, is ranked by Alexa.com as the 78th most visited Nigerian website.
MMM Global, on the other hand, is more popular in Nigeria than Facebook, Nairaland and Bet9ja. The site, which ranks fifth on Alexa, is behind Google.com, Google.com.ng, Youtube.com, Yahoo.com.
According to an online report quoted by NAN, Mbanefo is based in South Africa.
Nigerian Communications week said Mbanefo registered the site, MMM-Nigeria.net domain, on June 7, 2016 at about 5pm Nigerian time.
NCW quoting Pageone report written back in September said Mbanefo made a single-year domain payment. The domain will expire on June 7, 2017.
It was also revealed that MMM Nigeria is not part of MMM Global – a Russian company that was responsible for one of the world’s largest Ponzi schemes in the 1990s.
MMM Global was founded by Russian politician Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi and Olga Melnikova.
The name of the company was taken from the first letters of the three founders’ surnames (MMM)
But like MMM Global, the Nigerian scheme is also a pyramid marketing scheme where an investor gets a 30 per cent return on investment.
Around the world, MMM is feared.
In January 2016, the Chinese government banned MMM on the grounds that it is a pyramid scheme (Ponzi scheme), and it is not registered in the country (and as a fraudulent scheme cannot be registered).
MMM recently crashed in Zimbabwe: Thousands of ‘Mavrodians’ in Zimbabwe were left in tears when the scheme crashed, losing tens of thousands of their lifetime savings.
PageOne gave Mbanefo’s address as 1 Royal Street, Lindberg Park, Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to Page One, Ernest was awarded a certificate of completion of an online course titled ‘MMM Guiders School’ on July 15. The certificate was supposedly signed by Sergei Mavrodi himself. He has since given himself the nickname the ‘Super Guider of MMM’.
To share news and information about MMM, Ernest also operates a subdomain ‘news.mmm-nigeria.net. The site praises him and projects him as the leader of the Ponzi Scheme in Nigeria.
“He is described thus: MMM Nigeria Super Guider; Pastor Ernest Mbanefo, has been selflessly helping thousands of MMM Nigeria participants whether or not they fall under his downline structure.
“The brain behind the MMM Nigeria revolution operation has been working selflessly and tirelessly towards the education, information and proper guidance for the MMM Nigeria Community.”

“I asked why he wouldn’t let Anita go? What was it about her?
“With tears in my eyes and desperate to save my home, I was willing to learn, to become like her if that was what he wanted. If it was the sex, I asked him to teach me her moves.
“If it was her character I wanted to know, so I become what he saw in her. I was drained.

Education › Teacher Thrown Into Prison For Flogging Student In Lagos by themomentng(op): 2:38pm On Nov 28, 2016
Secondary school teacher thrown into prison for flogging student till she bled in Lagos [PHOTO]

A secondary school teacher, Sunday Adeshina, has been thrown into Kirikiri prison in Lagos State after he reportedly flogged a female student until she started bleeding.

Adeshina was said to have flogged a 14-year-old SS3 student identified as Onyinye Nwakaeme, on the head when she could not give a correct answer to questions he asked her during a class.

Onyinye, a student of Great Esteem Private Secondary School in Ijeshatedo area of Lagos state told newsmen, “We were taking Economics class that day and I was busy copying note. I had just returned from my father’s burial. Being behind schedule, I used every available time to copy my notes because I had a lot to write.

“The teacher saw me and called me out with some people, claiming that we were making noise and asked us to explain what he had been teaching. I didn’t get the question right because I was really not paying attention to him. Out of anger, he started flogging me.

“He flogged me to the point that I was bleeding on my head and he didn’t stop. Even when the proprietor asked him to stop, he was fierce and wanted to flog me more.”

The student was said to have returned to the school the next day with her siblings who wanted to find out the true state of things in the school, but did not find Adeshina.

The girl’s family reported the case at Ago police station for necessary actions to be taken since the teacher could not be located all day.

Onyinye added, “I got home and reported to my parents about the inhumane treatment he gave me in the school and some of my older siblings went to school with me to address the issue. On getting there, he was absent from the school till the day was over.

“We decided to report at Ago police station to take necessary measures and arrest him because the school was unapologetic. They spoke rudely to my family and asked us to go to any length whatsoever to fight them.”

The school management reportedly suspended the student indefinitely, after the incident, a decision which the family is yet to come to terms with.

The girl’s family have demanded a reinstatement of the girl but the school owner, Pastor Rotimi Olu Joseph, has vehemently opposed it, claiming that Onyinye’s family stormed the school premises with thugs.

According to him, “We gave the girl suspension because it shows that she is not fit to be in the same environment with us. If they can take laws into their hands, then their ward has no place in the school.

“Except they write to the school that she will be of good conduct, she will not be reinstated.”

Adeshina, while reacting to the allegations refused to accept the blame but rather insisted that it remains his obligation as a teacher to correct erring students by beating or punishing them.

The teacher was charged to court for assault and was granted bail in the sum of N70,000.

He was transferred to Kirikiri prisons pending the time he would meet up with his bail conditions.

Business › EFCC: Billionaire Businessman, Tunde Ayeni Regain Freedom by themomentng(op): 4:20pm On Nov 26, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released billionaire businessman and lawyer, Tunde Ayeni, after detaining him for two days.
Mr. Ayeni was freed Saturday morning after he and other officials of his bank, Aso Savings and Loans Plc, committed to paying up a controversial N1billion naira the former management of the bank allegedly passed to a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, those familiar with the matter said.
A source said Mr. Ayeni personally made a cheque deposit of N100 million naira with he and his colleagues promising to pay the balance in the weeks ahead.
When contacted over the matter on Saturday afternoon, Mr. Ayeni said the matter for which he was invited by the EFCC had to do with a transaction carried out by the management of the bank.
“It has nothing to do with me as a person,” Mr. Ayeni said. “This transaction happened in 2010, and I was not even the chairman of the bank at the time.
“But as one of the key stakeholders of the bank, the EFCC asked me for some explanations which I made. The whole matter is clearer to them now, and the matter is being resolved.”
Mr. Ayeni was arrested Thursday in relation with the ongoing investigation of former Minister Mohammed for alleged fraud.
EFCC investigators believe Mr. Mohammed received one billion Naira from Aso Savings, an Abuja-based Primary Mortgage Institution, in yet unclear circumstances shortly after the bank transacted a land swap deal with the FCT administration during the minister’s tenure.
Mr. Ayeni was a former chairman of the bank, and one of its largest shareholders.
An EFCC insider had disclose that Mr. Ayeni had to be detained because he kept insisting he did not authorise the passage of any money to Mr. Bala, and that he should not be harassed for the conduct of the management of the bank.
“He was not initially cooperative,” one source said. “We told him point black that we will release him once they pay back the money. The money belong to the bank. So we want to give the money back to the bank.”
The EFCC is investigating Mr. Mohammed, who was arrested on October 24, for alleged financial crimes in excess of N1.6 trillion.
Sources within the agency told this newspaper that Mr. Mohammed, who served from April 2010 until May 2015, was allegedly involved in extensive land racketeering while he was minister.
“After computation of the land deals that he struck, we discovered that more than N1.6 trillion could not be accounted for,” a source said.
The former minister could not be reached to comment for this story.
This is the second time Mr. Ayeni would be a guest of the EFCC.
In 2004, he was arrested in relation with the corruption trial of former Bayelsa Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
The businessman was arrested by the commission over the matter and later mentioned in court documents as admitting helping Mr. Alamieyeseigha to execute some deals.
The EFCC has since cleared Mr. Ayeni of complicity in the Alamieyeseigha saga.
In two letters, the anti-graft agency admitted Mr. Ayeni was detained and questioned over some transactions during the Alamieyseigha case, but was cleared of all liabilities.
Mr. Ayeni has since then remained one of Nigeria’s most ambitious businessmen, investing heavily in almost all key sectors of the Nigerian economy – oil and gas, telecoms and power.
He was until recently the chairman of Skye Bank and was awarded Commander of the Order of Niger (CON) – a national recognition – by the Federal Government.

Family › 2016 Beyond The School Programme:students Charged On Talents, Career Development by themomentng(op): 2:48pm On Nov 26, 2016
Students have been advised on how to discover and nurture their abilities, talents and areas of interest, in order to take advantage of their chosen career opportunities in future. Mrs. Clementine Vervelde, the Project Champion of “Beyond the School” initiative, sponsored by the Nigerian Breweries/Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, told participating students in Lagos on Friday to believe in themselves and stand up boldly to challenges they might encounter in their career pathway.
“The knowledge you now have will help you find disciplines that you are passionate about. You also have to develop the skills needed to succeed in those disciplines. This programme is about enlightenment for your career and your future. After all you have learnt today, you should be able to sit down and think of where you want to be in the next few years. The power lies in your hands,” she said.
According to Mrs. Vervelde, the “Beyond the School” initiative programme is a career guidance initiative designed to enlighten and expose secondary school students to career options and how best they can focus their learning to make it more relevant to desired future careers. The initiative, she said, also seeks to develop a healthy reading culture among students.
Speaking earlier, the Corporate Affairs Adviser of Nigerian Breweries, Mr. Kufre Ekanem noted that the initiative has been introduced to complement other initiatives of the company targeted at the education sector. He counseled students to work hard at their academics in spite of the economic challenges confronting them and the nation at large.
The initiative, according to him, is designed for senior secondary school students in public schools to expose them to career options and factors they need to consider before making a career choice. He added that the initiative also underpins the importance of reading in career goal achievement.
Mr. Ekanem informed the gathering that on November 16, 2016, Nigerian Breweries celebrated 70 years as a business and noted that education remains a major vehicle the company uses to keep its commitment to the course of development in Nigeria. “We believe our youth and teenagers have major roles to play in national development and that education, which remains the cornerstone of any meaningful and sustainable development, is a sure way to prepare our future leaders in playing their roles,” he said.
He called on students to take advantage of the career guidance information provided to them, which is in line with best practices, to achieve their fullest potential.
Ayeni Adekunle, the CEO of Black House Media who was the guest speaker at the occasion advised the students to be focused and steadfast, adding that the most important time of their lives is now. He implored the students to get education “by all means”, but to also develop their passions and interests to guarantee a future that does not depend on perpetually seeking out employment.
Abisoye Ajia, a Wealth Adviser with Stanbic IBTC, the Fund Managers of the initiative, charged the students to inculcate the culture of saving and investing.
This year’s edition of the “Beyond the school” programme was held on Friday, 25th November, 2016 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos with students and teachers from Oregun Senior Secondary School, Oregun; Vetland Senior Secondary School, Agege; Government Senior Secondary School, Ikoyi; Baptist Senior High School, Obanikoro and Eric Moore Senior High School, Surulere in attendance.

Politics › Obasanjo Is The Most Corrupt Nigerian On Record –reps by themomentng(op): 6:30pm On Nov 24, 2016
The House of Representatives on Thursday declared that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, is the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria, accusing him of introducing corruption into the National Assembly on its first day in 1999 and that he is still angry with the parliament for aborting his third term agenda.
Recall that the former President had while delivering a lecture at the first Akintola Williams Annual Lecture in Lagos on Wednesday averred that the “National Assembly stinks and stinks to high heavens. It needs to be purged,” adding that the parliament operates a cabal “worse than any cabal that anybody may find anywhere in our national governance system at any time.”
But addressing a press conference in Abuja, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas maintained that Obasanjo lacks the moral authority to talk about corruption, accusing him of plotting to bring down Buhari’s government, and that he is: “acting as lifetime opposition leader, blackmailer”.
According to Namdas, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at a lecture he delivered recently, wherein, in his characteristic manner accused everybody but himself of corruption.
“He ventured to accuse the National Assembly of Budget padding, accused the House of criminal activities of threatening the life of a “whistleblower”, lampooned constituency projects which he approved as President, ventured to discuss the budget of National Assembly which is highly underfunded?
In the speech Namdas said the House would ordinarily not join issues with the former President as he has held an office that deserves respect and reverence.
“However, because of the material misstatement of facts, outright lies and falsehoods, and mischievous innuendo introduced in his statement, we are left with no option but to correct him.
“We have repeatedly maintained that there was no “padding” of the 2016 Appropriation Act, which is a legitimate document passed by the National Assembly, authenticated by the Clerk to the National Assembly as provided in the Acts Authentication Act and assented to by Mr. President. It is most unfortunate that a former President of Chief Obasanjo’s stature would allow himself to be hoodwinked and procured by a renegade member of the House, who embarked on massive propaganda and lies just because he was removed from office.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no crime that was committed by the National Assembly by exercising its constitutional function of appropriation. If Chief Obasanjo has an issue with the execution of the 2016 Budget or indeed other Appropriation Acts, he should direct his anger elsewhere.

Business › Lagos Traders Happy Over Cancellation Of Monthly Sanitation Exercise by themomentng(op): 5:05pm On Nov 24, 2016
Traders in Lagos on Thursday lauded the cancellation of monthly environmental sanitation exercise by the state government, saying it would boost economic activities.
Mr Femi Odusanya, spokesperson, Mile 12 Traders Association, stated this in an interview on Thursday in Lagos.
The Lagos State Government announced the cancellation on Wednesday, saying, “it was no longer appropriate to restrict movement of people for three hours in a mega city like Lagos.’’
Odusanya said: “The government’s decision was quite thoughtful. It has become unnecessary restraining people’s movement for three hours in this economic recession.
“Most people bringing goods from the North wait at the expressways till sanitation ends but now our goods will get to the market early with reduced waste.
“With this new development, traders will have more time to promote their businesses and contribute to the economic growth of the country.”
He, however, noted that the cancellation placed huge responsibility on the traders to intensify and maintain a clean and healthy environment while pursuing economic gain.
“We have to increase our efforts in cleaning and waste disposal at the Thursday weekly market sanitation to ensure that our market is hygienic and safe for trading activities,” he said.
Similarly, Eke Ubiji, Executive Secretary, National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME), noted that the decision would create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“Environmental sanitation is an integral part of societal governance; citizens should observe it without compulsion and restriction that will hinder economic activities,” Ubiji said.

Politics › APC On The Verge Of Disintegration –faleke by themomentng(op): 4:43pm On Nov 24, 2016
Deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in last year November governorship election in Kogi State, Hon. James Faleke has warned that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is on the verge of tearing up, stressing that the party can only make progress when the governing party carries everyone along.
Faleke, who made this known in Ogbonicha, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State during the one-year remembrance programme for the late governorship candidate, Abubakar Audu who died during the 2015 election in Kogi state, was categorical that the APC is not yet a party, adding that the national leadership needs to wake up.
While ruling out any form of reconciliation with the beneficiary of the election, Governor Yahaya Bello, he denied been involved in any reconciliation process with the leadership of the state government because of the injustice perpetrated by the party, adding that there could not be any reconciliation without justice.
The Reps member maintained that the logjam in the party in the state could not be resolved because of the way and manner the national leadership of the party handled the issues that generated after Audu’s death.
“There can never be any reconciliation in a situation where somebody works from first day to the last day of the month and another person collects his salary, what can only be the basis for reconciliation is for the salary to be returned, that is the only reconciliation.
“We are prepared to go hungry for the next four years, but I can tell you that God sparing our lives, the song will change surely,” Faleke said.
He continued, “The architects of the crisis in Kogi state started the imminent downfall of our party, APC, the way and manner the issue of Kogi was handled was least expected of a political party. I have heard that one of the cabals said that APC was just a gathering of some people, not yet a political party.
“I want to say that as far as what happened in Kogi state is concerned and how it is affecting the party, I am sure those in government in the state can confirm that all is not well within the party in the state because when you worked and some people are benefitting or reaping the fruits of your labour, they will know that all cannot be well and that is why they are not getting their feet right.
“It is one year after Audu and nothing seems to be moving, it has taken the state more than seven to eight months to do screening and pay salary, people have died through queuing or waiting for their names to be screened and those that had been screened have not collected salary since January this year, you can imagine that certainly things are very bad, we know how much we spend to maintain our people in the state to keep live moving.
“When people work and at the end of the month they are not paid, you can be sure that nothing can go well, so whatever that goes on in the civil service in the state is also affecting the party
“What happened to us during the case and when we lost our leader one year ago and all the battles we went through in the legal process, the way and manner the court judgments came, the issues that were determined have shown that we are not in a party yet, as far as am concerned, until the party at the national level wakes up.
“You know that this party was formed by all of us, we contributed to it, it is not an animal farm, it belongs to everybody, until they realised that, that is only time that this party can have a foot and can move forward. If our people get paid, if our people are empowered and entrenched, I am sure the songs will change, but as it is now, it is bad bad song.”

He continued, “And when my friend, Mrs. Juliet Bumah, came to my house in company of other media friends; that was when they told me they had to let the world know about my plight because I would not be able to shoulder the medical bills alone. Then I was already spending about N170, 000 weekly on dialysis aside monies I was paying to see consultants weekly too. I agreed with them, the first picture of me sitting in the hospital bed that went viral was released by Juliet who we all call ‘Supawoman’.”
The way Nigerians responded to the ‘Save Leo Mezie’ appeal according to the actor overwhelmed him.

Business › Obat’s Businesses Empire Crumbling! by themomentng(op): 4:35pm On Nov 23, 2016
…as Bank seals depot in Lagos, Abuja mall
Things are not going well with the King of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Obateru Akinruntan’s business conglomerate. While the oil and gas aspect of the business is struggling for breath with the AMCON, sources say banks are already threatening fire and brimstone to take over the business mogul’s property concern in Abuja.
Already, the shopping mall in Abuja is as good as being taken over by Ecobank over a huge debt hanging on the company’s neck. While many are asking how it all went so bad for the company, fingers are being pointed to the King’s kids that prodigally ran the companies while the old man went to lead his kingdom as a traditional ruler.
The above was how this medium reported about the state of Obat’s businesses few weeks and now things have fallen apart and the Centre can no longer hold. This is as a result of a court order recently granted Skyebank by a High Court to take over Obat oil and gas depot over 2.1 billion naira debt.
As a result of the order, the company was sealed up recently while vehement denial by the oil company was in the air, the reality is that the company is swimming in troubled water.
Skye Bank had sought to recover a loan debt of the sum of N2,142,462, 572.26 owed it by Obat Oil and Petroleum. The loan was guaranteed by His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Frederick Eniti Akinruntan. The bank further sought to recover 15 per cent interest on the amount from April 2014 till the liquidation of the debt.
The case was taken before an arbitrator, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), during which Obat Oil and Dr. Akinruntan appealed for concessions and waivers on the amount of accrued interest, fees and commissions. After the arbitration, the Arbitrator held that it would be fair and equitable to award N1,406,944,352.76 to the claimant, which represents the amount the respondents admitted as being the outstanding balance as at March 31 2014. Aare Babalola also awarded 10 per cent interest annually on the N1.4billion from the April 1l, 2014, till final liquidation of the amount.
The bank, however, alleged that Obat Oil and Dr. Akinruntan failed to comply with the Arbitration Award. It applied to the court to order the award’s enforcement. While granting the application, Justice Dagat made an order granting Skye Bank leave to enforce the Arbitration Award against the respondents. In compliance with the order, Skye Bank yesterday proceeded to enforce the Arbitration Award against Obat Oil and Petroleum and Oba Akinruntan

Politics › Dogara Condemns Raid On ‘corrupt’ Judges Homes, Vows To Amend SSS Law by themomentng(op): 2:25pm On Nov 23, 2016
Speaker Yakubu Dogara on Wednesday said the invasion of the homes of senior judicial officers by the State Security Service was a disorganised and worrisome.
The Speaker said the clampdown was a duplication of the function of other anti-corruption agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and promised sweeping reforms to prevent its recurrence.
Mr. Dogara made the observations when he inaugurated a House committee charged with investigating the clampdown and its aftermath.
“It is untidy, it seems, to have multiple agencies exercising similar functions. The EFCC already handles issues of corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria,” Mr. Dogara said. “Should the State Security Service also be charged with the same functions?”
Scores of SSS operatives swooped on the homes of judges in a coordinated raid across the country on October 7. The raid dragged until the next morning on October 8 before the news of the raid filtered to Nigerians.
Two judges of the Supreme Court, an appellate court judge and five high court judges were arrested in the operation.
The SSS also said it recovered a huge amount of money denominated in different currencies from the judicial officers’ homes and said it was the climax of a sting operation launched months before.
Some of the arrested judges are already being prosecuted for corruption while all of them have been granted bail.
President Muhammadu Buhari immediately came out to defend the action of the secret police and said he was fighting corrupt judges and not necessarily the judiciary.
The crackdown created a major fissure amongst Nigerians who immediately took sides on the matter.
While some saw the action of the SSS as needed to fight alleged corruption in the judiciary; others raised alarm that the president is trying to suppress the judiciary and instil fear on judges who might be poised to delivery unfavourable rulings against his administration.
Although Mr. Dogara did not immediately speak out at the time, the House deliberated on the matter during its plenary on October 11, which was the first sitting since the raids.
The deliberation was initiated via a motion of urgent national concern by Kingsley Ogundu, a lawmaker from Rivers State which was part of the affected states.
Mr. Ogundu’s prayer for the House to summon the Director-General of the SSS failed to gain traction amongst lawmakers, but they resolved to raise a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding arrests.
At the inauguration of the committee today, Mr. Dogara hinted that the executive might have usurped the powers of the legislature.
“The activities of the State Security Service of late have raised concerns in the Nigerian polity as to the propriety of the conduct of officials of the service and whether their actions are consistent with the law setting it up,” Mr. Dogara read from a prepared speech.
“It is in this regard that I enjoin this Committee to make relevant findings of fact that will enable the National Assembly initiate the necessary amendments to the National Security Agencies Act —and even the Constitution where necessary— to ensure conformity with the constitutional design and framework that envisage that federal legislative power should be domiciled in the National Assembly and not shared with the executive in the manner provided under the Act.”
Mr. Dogara said the Buhari administration was exploiting a decree promulgated by the last military junta led by Abdulsalam Abubakar.
Mr. Abubakar, through an instrument in 1999, expanded the role of SSS to include other functions as dictated by the head of state.
But Mr. Dogara questioned the validity of instrument since the NSA Act is amongst the four extant laws under the Transitional Provisions an Savings component of the Constitution.
“The National Security Agencies Act is specifically protected by Section 315(5) of the Constitution as it cannot be altered like ordinary Acts of the National Assembly. It has the same alteration procedure like the Constitution as laid down in Section 9 (2) thereof,” Mr. Dogara said.
The Speaker said lawmakers serving in the committee will answer all questions that stemmed from the action of the SSS and recommend all necessary means of forestalling a recurrence— including a possible amendment to the Constitution.
The committee is expected to announce sitting days and modalities for its fact-finding in the coming days.

Business › UNCOVER: Nigeria’s Women Affinity For Cucumber by themomentng(op): 5:43pm On Nov 22, 2016
Cucumber is a widely cultivated plant in the gourd family. It is the fourth most cultivated vegetable in the world and known to be one of the best foods for body’s overall health. It is often referred to as a super food. Rehydration and replenishment of daily vitamins, skin and hair care are some of the health benefits of cucumber. It fights cancers, relieves bad breath, works as hangover cure, aids in weight loss and digestion, cures diabetes, reduces cholesterol and controls blood pressure.
Those were the hitherto known reason shoppers go for the vegetable in the market. However, it would appear that cucumber has a more interesting attraction for some women.
The use of cucumber among ladies for sexual plays instead of the male sexual organ has been on the increase, which makes ladies who wish to buy the plant for the sake of making salad or for some other health benefits, a suspect of lesbianism and other sexual rascality. This, perhaps, have be seen as cheap alternative or replacement for manhood and popular intimacy gadgets.
Recent discovery has proved that people who eat cucumbers, bananas, carrots and hot dogs among others, are actually eating potential intimacy gadgets. The popular vegetable is now the commonest item found among women for penetrative plays.
Before now, cucumber is viewed as a vegetable fruit mainly eaten raw or used in making salad but today, such vegetables is found more useful by women for more intimate functions and instrument for sexual satisfaction. Therefore, eat a cucumber in a lady’s refrigerator could just be a intimacy gadget.
Sequel to this disclosure, some ladies are beginning to shy away from buying cucumber in order not to be touted lesbians.
“After hearing Chidinma’s scandal, when I went to the popular Mile 12 Market in Lagos to buy salad items for my friend’s child dedication, I was forced to buy in large quantity, more than what I needed, just to clear any suspicion that I might be using it for sexual purposes,” said Ray Ojugo, a house wife.
The suspicion was more when it dawn on Nigerians that women now use cucumber as a intimacy gadgets. The video that went viral in the social media, showing a Nigerian’s beauty queen, Chidinma Okeke, and her friends Ada, in ‘cucumber sex action’ has also increased this suspicion.
Also, a female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) was caught trying to do a quickie on herself with a small cucumber recently. But the plant broke in the course of the action and stuck inside her private part.
When she cried out for help as she bled profusely, she was rushed to the medical centre, where doctors demanded consent of her parents before a surgery could be done to remove the piece of cucumber in her vagina. Instead of waiting to be treated, she ran away from the hospital.
But the big question here is ‘does cucumber give the same sexual desire as penis? Does a toy or vibrator supply the same desire, which is the reason for sex in the first place? What do people think the role of sex is, when it seems sometimes, a battery operated vibrator and refrigerated cucumber would do?
Ibidunmi Ajare said cucumber gives some degree of satisfaction, especially when the user has sexual desire and there is no one available to assist. She noted that, even sex therapists tell people to use cucumbers in the absence of vibrators as a temporal relief.
She said, “I used to have the impression that sex doesn’t really have any particular meaning in the life of human beings. My earlier thought about sex was just about getting fantasy.
“Though I have not used any of the intimacy gadgets before, I know a friend who uses banana and cucumber. She stays for several months without the desire to have sex with a man after using her toys. So, I believe it gives her the satisfaction she needs most of the time.
“So, sex has all sorts of meanings to different people at different times. I guess it would be better to ask what sexual acts mean to people individually, rather then what it meant in general.”
Corroborating her comment, Brander Johnson, said though she hasn’t used cucumber before, she knows of a person, who uses cucumber for penetrative plays. “Cucumber may offer some level of satisfaction since it comes in different sizes and shapes. Those who desire big or small sizes will surely get one.
“It sounds as if I’m freak here. I’m very sexual but I didn’t always have the option of buying intimacy gadgets. I heard about it in modern culture and since I was naive and ignorant, I thought I would give it a go. But as I had suspected, it didn’t work at all. Eventually, I managed to get my hands on some actual intimacy gadgets and all was well,” she added.

I need the real ‘stuff’
But on the contrary, while she was asked to make a choice between real ‘stuff’ (manhood) and cucumber for sexual satisfaction, Rachael Agiri said, “Why should I prefer cucumber? Cucumber is not human and never does what human can do. With cucumber, you are helping yourself out while with the real thing, someone is helping you to get satisfaction.
“I have never used it and I don’t intend to do so. I can’t say which gives better satisfaction but for me, I prefer the real thing. With the real thing, you can get to orgasm over and over again. When married couples have sexual intercourse, the sexual satisfaction is written all over the woman. This can’t be compared with the fulfillment from the artificial cucumber plant.
“Vibrator is even better but the disadvantage is that you could find it difficult to reach orgasm, than when you are with a man. The reason is that with a vibrator, you can go on and on because it’s a machine but while with a man, he gets tired easily, that is why some sex crazy ladies have turned sex maniacs following the prolonged use of intimacy gadgets.”
She noted that those who indulge in regular use of intimacy gadgets are in most cases tired of men and their deceitful ways.”Before cucumber became the order of the day, most women try to penetrate themselves, using banana, carrot, sizable bottles, especially the container of Cuba perfume, at least, once in their lives. The situation didn’t start today but cucumber seems to be offering different sizes. Some have big bananas in their refrigerators, perhaps, for the same reason.”
In general, a sex therapist, Dr. Blair Adejumo, said: “Since we can’t rule it out, then, if you are going to improvise a intimacy gadget, make sure you pick an item that is smooth with no sharp point or sharp edge that won’t break nor shatter under intense pressure resulting from persistent stroking. This should go without saying, but please, only use an item that solely belongs to you.
“If the cucumber is used as a intimacy gadget, it should be disposed after use or at the very least, it should not be put anywhere where someone else would pick it up and make a salad out of it. Cucumbers, vibrators and other intimacy gadgets give an escape, a release, but in the big picture, it doesn’t come close to the feeling of shared emotion that comes from intimacy with the opposite sex.
“With intimacy gadgets, you are in control of how it plays out, with a partner, there is that ‘unknown’ fact that turns the tables.”

My husband bought me a vibrator
A young mother, Jackie Agbankanise, whose marriage is just three years, said her husband bought her a vibrator and warned her against the use of any other intimacy gadgets…including another man. Jackie, who is married to Jamike, said she was dumbfounded when her husband, who lives in the United States, came back with a vibrator.
“Unbelievable, my husband came back and handed over a vibrator to me. He told me that my persistent desire to be with him made him to buy me a vibrator. It was funny but that was my husband for you. He wanted me to be faithful to our marital vows. He prefers me to use intimacy gadgets than to meet another man, but I have never used any intimacy gadgets before. I don’t know how it works.”

Cucumber, carrot, banana can hurt vaginal lining – Medical experts
In the words of Dr. Perry Iloegbunam, with sharp frictions, cucumber and any of these improvised intimacy gadgets can really hurt the delicate vaginal lining. It’s therefore, not safe to use any of these improvised intimacy gadgets. Cucumber, especially cannot withstand pressure when the lady is on top of the game. It can break right inside there and will require a clinical surgery for it to be removed.
He added: “Of course, there is the case of sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Cucumber has some chemical compounds in it that will not be tolerant to the walls of the vagina. Carrot is worse of it all, as the friction and pressure makes it to peel inside the body.
“Please do not stick fruits or vegetable plants in your vagina. Even if you clean such objects, you should not put plant down inside. Ever peeps on medical information will tell you just to put a condom on it, but you know what else you could do? Get a vibrator instead of wasting a perfectly good cucumber meant for a salad.”
Speaking on the same side effects, Dr. David Sobel said, “First, if you are worried about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), you must be rest assured that you can’t get an STD from masturbation. Masturbation in and of itself, does not cause disease. That is to say it’s still a good idea to avoid irritating and hurting your genital area when you masturbate.
“I encourage you to wash your hands before and after touching yourself, and don’t put anything sharp or dirty near your vagina or anus. You should always be careful with those parts of your body but you don’t need to be afraid to explore your body. It’s healthy and normal to touch yourself.
“Many ladies, who go for cucumber and other improvised plants, do that because they are cheaper than vibrators. It’s also available at all times and people will not suspect any person who buys cucumber in the market. ”
There are many different reasons that people use intimacy gadgets. Some people use them for lack of a sexual partner or because their partner is not able to satisfy them. The pleasure from intimacy gadgets is different from that of a partner however, so many people also use them to get both and not only one of them, for example, during sexual intercourse vibrators are used additionally.
However, not only the females use cucumber as intimacy gadgets. Men who use it as intimacy gadgets shop for the biggest and fattest cucumber, cut it in half, scoop out the seeds to accommodate the hard-on and plunge right in!

Business › ‘we’ve Seized Over 1000 Diplomatic Passports From Ex-public Officers’ by themomentng(op): 9:31pm On Nov 19, 2016
The Comptroller General (CG), of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Muhammad Babandede, on Saturday disclosed that no fewer than a thousand diplomatic passports have been intercepted and seized from former political office holders who failed to handover their passport upon leaving office.
Babandede had in May ordered the arrest of former political office holders and retired public servants who are still in possession of Official/Diplomatic passports, directing officers on duty at the various airports in the country to arrest such persons and hand them over for prosecution.
But addressing select journalists at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, the CG disclosed that since he handed down the order, many former political office holders have turned in their passports.
“The strategy we have put up for those still holding diplomatic passports is to ensure they don’t cross the border. Passports are meant for travel. So anybody who crosses the border in or out; the passports are intercepted and seized. We have seized over a thousand since that time.
“But what is important is that many political office holders have returned their passports. There are cases we have prosecuted jointly with the ministry of justice, some people who have double diplomatic passports; some people who have passports they have not returned. There are a lot of cases ongoing like this.”
Admitting that Nigerian visas are difficult to get and that resident’s permit takes time to deliver, the Immigrations boss pointed out that President Muhammadu Buhari has given the directive that anyone who applies for a Nigeria Immigration facility, must get it on time.
