The Federal Government, petroleum marketers, and other stakeholders are scrambling to create a smooth transition that won’t jeopardize the welfare of the populace as a result of the anticipated withdrawal of fuel subsidies. Given the socioeconomic effects on businesses and Nigerians, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has already advised the Federal Government against considering eliminating the gasoline subsidy without local capacity for refining. However, the Federal Government claimed that it is now considering the best way to remove subsidies without interfering with Nigerians’ ability to support themselves.... https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/fg-and-marketers-on-a-bumpy-road-to-subsidy-removal/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

As a Legal Practitioner, I have done a number of divorce cases, and it is not true that the Court always award custody to the father. It is not true. Child custody disputes is very sensitive and emotionally charged, and especially based on the fact that the outcome can have a significant impact on the lives of both the parents and the child. Firstly, it is important to understand that in Nigeria, custody disputes are determined based on what is in the best interests of the child. The court will consider factors such as the child’s age, gender, health, and educational needs, as well as the ability of each parent to provide for the child’s physical, emotional, and psychological needs. https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/legal-insights-on-child-custody-in-divorce-cases/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

Popular Table Shaker, Reno Omokri has posited that a man who spends money on his wife is not doing her any favour. In a post on Facebook, the former presidential aide argued that men should pay their “house wife” a monthly salary. More so, Omokri revealed how much a man should pay his house wife monthly. He wrote: A man who spends his money on his wife is not doing her any favours. He is doing her his duty. A housewife is not a jobless person. Being a stay at home wife is itself a job. She looks after you. And the kids. And the house. As a result, she can’t earn as much she potentially can. Husband, better pay her well! With the horrendous performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the just concluded presidential polls which performance has left Nigerians bitter that their choice was violated, the battle royale is poised to move to the courts whose independence and impartiality Nigerians have become increasingly skeptical of. IF YOU call Muhammadu Buhari incompetent, it is only a crazy man who would stand up to make a case to the contrary. Buhari is as incompetent as the day is long. His tragic lack of ability has completely ruined Nigeria. The dreadful thing about some of the harms he has caused is that they might prove ineradicable. One need hardly say that the economy is mortally wounded. The naira, terminally sick before he arrived, is now dead and resting with its ancestors. Bandits run a thriving parallel state, where they supervise world’s most brazen-faced and profitable ransom-farming. For the first time in the country’s history, a coterie of criminals appointed an educated spokesperson and occasionally speak to the press, pretty much like the white-collared guys in Wall Street. Since press lying got Buhari into Aso Rock, it doesn’t rain for Nigeria, it pours. I cannot think of any other election that Nigerians looked forward to, after the still-born 1993 election midwived by Ibrahim Babangida, like this coming election on Saturday, February 25. In many ways, the 1993 election shares several similarities with the election of Saturday. I have deliberately crafted the topic of this piece to link the status of the Nigerian state as a republic to the aspirational desire, embodied within the forthcoming election, of transforming the fortune of the country through a decidedly ideological willpower that aligns the future to a vision of Nigeria. When the electorates go to the poll in all democratic context, that act is symbolic of a desire and yearning to keep drawing the state closer to an ideal. And that is done either through the removal of a leadership that seemed to have fractured that vision or through the election of another who the electorate believed could facilitate the transformation that takes the state closer to an idea of utopia. Abraham Lincoln had something fundamental in mind when he insisted that “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” And I think William Shakespeare fathomed what that meant when he made Cassius to utter, in Julius Caesar, that “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars/But in ourselves, that we are underlings.” Cassius juxtapose fate and human character and will power to make whatever one wills to happen.... https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/nigeria-as-a-republic-of-the-future/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost follow us on Facebook for more https://web.facebook.com/tncng Follow us on twitter https://twitter.com/ThenewsC

The Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed those who are behind naira and fuel scarcity. The speaker attributed the scarcity to the activities of saboteurs. Speaking in Lagos State during the launch of an initiative called Gbaja Ride, Femi Gbajabiamila noted that the lingering scarcity of naira notes and the fuel crisis were carefully contrived by some elements to destroy the successes of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. He added that the House of Representatives was working hard to rescue Nigerians from the present hardships. Gbajabiamila said, “As your representative and Speaker, I have a good understanding of the current hardships and discomfort being faced by many Nigerians, without exception to my constituents. “The lower legislative chamber under my leadership has been on the side of the people, working tirelessly to rescue them from these difficulties”. Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of the Ikeja High Court has sentenced a school teacher, Chukwu Ndubuisi, to life imprisonment. The teacher was sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a six-year-old girl at Mind Builders School in Lagos. Ndubuisi was an art teacher of the school as of June 2016 when the offence was committed. He was initially arraigned at the Ogudu Magistrate Court on a charge of forceful penetration. The court also held that Ndubuisi had unlimited access to the minor and defiled her several times. The court said that the first time the survivor told her mother of her experience was the day when she was discussing the case of a seven-year-old girl that was defiled and killed that went viral on social media. The survivor later confided in her mother what she experienced and her mum urged her not to tell anyone. However, the mother informed the father, which led to visitation to the school but the art teacher could not be found. The court noted parents of the victim notified the Omole Police Station and the matter was investigated. Following a test conducted on the survivor at the Ikosi Health Centre, it was revealed the survivor had been defiled. The court said the survivor had notified the court that sometimes Ndubuisi requested her to remove her uniform and put his “bumbum” into her “bumbum”. The court upheld that there was evidence of forceful penetration, following the result of the test carried out at the Mirabel Centre... https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/court-sentences-teacher-to-life-imprisonment-for-raping-minor/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost follow us on Facebook for more https://web.facebook.com/tncng Follow us on twitter https://twitter.com/ThenewsC
