Anambra to pay new minimum wage in July By Dom Ekpunobi, Onitsha | 27 March 2018 | 3:10 am Willie Obiano Anambra State workers would from July this year begin to earn a new minimum wage. The Commissioner for Information, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, who announced this during his first post exco press briefing at the Government House, Awka, said that although the minimum wage would have taken off in April, the state had to wait for the Federal Government pronouncement on the issue, so it would not work against the laws of the nation. He also announced that Anambra is set to launch a 50-year development plan for a sustainable development of the state. Advertisement Advertisement The Commissioner said a committee to handle the take off and running of the development plan would be inaugurated within the next two weeks. He said the state would witness faster growth and asked for the cooperation of all and sundry in order to enable Governor Willie Obiano realise his development goal in the state. He said although the governor achieved a lot in his first tenure, he has plans to make Anambra the most competitive state in the country. Adinuba said that the secretariat in Awka would soon wear a new look, while two bridges would be constructed at the Regina Ciely Junction in Awka and at Orumbanasa area of the state adding that the Orumbanasa bridge would be a military bridge. The state government, he said, had also decided to dualise the Awka road in Onitsha and warned that street trading in Onitsha would no longer be tolerated. He said the local council election was stalled by litigation pending in the court adding that as soon as they were discharged , the election would be conducted. |
dmercy141983:This Government will not effect any promotion, mark my word. The government is only waiting for the new minimum wage to commence so that they can implement it to appease Civil servants in the State. |
Purity001:There is nothing to laugh at. Salaries will be paid between tomorrow Friday and Monday next week. Our salaries were usually paid from the federal allocation. Allocation was shared on Thursday last week and it usually takes three working days before it get to states accounts and three working days for onward distribution for the various accounts for the payment of salaries of civil servants in the state. I insist, salaries will be paid! |

The Federal, states and local governments on Thursday shared N635.55bn as revenue generated in January, which showed a decline of N19.6bn when compared to what was generated in December . The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, while briefing newsmen in Abuja on the outcome of the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee meeting, highlighted several factors that impacted negatively on the January income. “Operational challenges caused a decrease in crude oil export by 0.36 million barrels, which reduced revenue from export sales for the federation by $113.86m. “However, the average price of crude oil increased from $56.83 to $57.71 per barrel during the period. “Other major issues that impacted negatively on operations were the shut-ins and shut-downs of production at various terminals for repairs and the Force Majeure declared at Bonny Terminals,” he said. Idris said the income from Petroleum Profit Tax and Companies Income Tax also decreased in the month under review. He said there was, however, significant increase from oil royalty and Value Added Tax, while revenues from Import Duty increased marginally. Giving a breakdown of the revenue generated, Idris said that N404.79bn was generated as mineral revenue, while N134.11bn came from non-mineral revenue. To this end, Idris said that Federal Government received N249.3bn; states, N126.48bn and the local governments, N97.51bn. He said that N52.04bn was also shared among the oil producing states, representing 13 per cent of the oil revenue generated in the month of January. Idris said the balance in the Excess Crude Account still remained $2.317bn, while the balance in the Excess Petroleum Profit Tax account stood at $133m. (NAN) |
