Why president may not receive NASS report soon ON MARCH 26, 20195:54 AMIN NEWS0 COMMENTS By Henry Umoru ABUJA—THERE are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may not receive soon, report of the decisions of Senate and House of Representatives on the approved N30,000 as the accepted minimum wage for the Nigerian workers following the prevailing economic realities of the country as against the N27,000 proposed by the Federal Government. Vanguard gathered, yesterday, that delay in the presentation of the report to the executive by the National Assembly may not be unconnected with the fact that the Senate and the House of Representatives will need to agree on some grey areas. Senate Vanguard further gathered that it had become imperative that both chambers will have a conference to address the issue of difference in the number of clauses. While the Senate dealt with 18 clauses, the House of Representatives addressed 19 clauses, which explains why there must be a conference. Though both chambers had differently approved N30,000 as the new minimum wage for the workers, the difference in the number of clauses would make them have a conference. Elections: Ensure ink does not spill beyond a box INEC tells voters Against the backdrop that the Senate and the House of Representatives, last week adjourned plenary till April 2, to enable the lawmakers attend to the budget defence process, the minimum wage report will wait till they resume plenary

With what is playing out, if care is not taking Civil Servants may go through another four (4) years of no promotion, no Christmas bonuses, no increment in salary. This is very pathetic. The only good thing that may be of benefit to Civil Servants in this whole 4 years will be the new minimum wage and nothing more... Gov. Wike is not ready to promote or effect any promotion as regard Rivers State Civil Servants. Our labour unions are not ready to challenge the governor as regards promotion in as much as they are receiving their take up dues at the end of the month. . You have been in this teaching job for over 5 and 10 years without promotion, you better look for an alternative source of income and make this teaching job a part time job. You may grow old soon without achieving anything meaningful for your children to inherit or you may not even be able to take very good care of yourself at old age. Receiving your pension after retirement is not even guaranteed. The Government of the day does not show much concern on education and the welfare of its citizens. |

gold360: I wonder why this zamfara state governor dey speak on behalf of our beloved state.
The Zamfara State Governor, Abubakar Yari, has warned the National Assembly against passing a new National Minimum Wage that would be difficult for states to pay. Mr Yari, who is the Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum, issued the warning in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the public hearing on new National Minimum Wage bill on Monday in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) recalls that the organised labour leaders had rejected the approved N27,000 by the National Council of State, demanding N30,000 as a new minimum wage. Reacting to the demand of organised labour, Mr Yari said that the demand for N30,000 as the new minimum was not realistic. According to him, only Lagos State can afford that N30,000 as minimum wage, not even Rivers can pay that much. He said that leaders must tell themselves the truth and not pass figures that would be difficult to implement in the field. Okowa Campaign AD “It is easy to call figures, but when it comes to implementing in the field, it becomes a problem. “Only Lagos can afford the N30,000 as minimum wage, not even Rivers can afford to pay that much,” he said. Rivers state fall in the categories of #30,000. While the less privilege States fall in #27,000 categories You are very correct. #27000 was only a benchmark to enable poorer state to pay but not below #27000. States like Rivers, Lagos and Akwaibom will pay #30,000. |

2ruconfidence: Breaking: NLC to hold nationwide protest Tuesday January 8 Updated: 6 minutes ago Author: Nurudeen Lawal Views: 138 Category: Local news FACEBOOK EMAIL TWITTER WHATSAPP FACEBOOK MESSENGER TELEGRAM The Nigeria Labour Congress says it will on Tuesday hold a nationwide protest to drive its demand for the upward review of the national minimum wage from N18,000 to N30,000. The General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, said in a statement that there would be no strike for now. Ozo-Eson, therefore, asked members of the public to disregard reports that the strike would begin tomorrow. The statement read in part, “It has come to our attention that some sections of the news media have largely misrepresented our action plan in reaction to the delay in transmitting the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee on a new national minimum wage to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari. “It should be recalled that the National Executive Council of the NLC met on December 17 last year and directed that we hold nationwide mobilisation of workers and our allies if, by December 31, 2018, the bill on the national minimum wage has yet to be sent to the National Assembly to be passed as an Act of Parliament. “We immediately announced then that on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, there will be a nationwide mass mobilisation and protests simultaneously across all states in Nigeria. This does not translate to a strike.” Foolish NLC. |

New minimum wage: What NLC said after meeting with FG The President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Mr Ayuba Wabba, has said that the organised Labour believed in social dialogue in resolving industrial relations. Wabba disclosed this after a meeting with the federal Government on Friday in Abuja. According to him, the Labour discussed all the issues bothering on the National minimum wage, adding that process was inconclusive. He said “We have had a social dialogue bothering on the national minimum wage as you are aware and the meeting decided to adjourn and reconvene on Monday for us to do further consultations before the issues are concluded. “We have discussed all the issues and all the areas particularly how we can ensure that the issue is put behind us. That is why we took such a long time, including having a time out to consult. “But we have not been able to conclude and we have agreed to reconvene to tidy The process. The issue at stake is to make sure that the bill is transmitted and also other auxiliary issues that government says they are trying to put together. “We also want to see how the money gets into the pockets of our workers because a lot of economic factors have affected the current wage. But the major issue is that we have been able to have a meaningful social dialogue. “But the process is not conclusive and we will reconvene on Monday. Monday is not too far from now since today is Friday. So, I expect you to be available to get the decision by Monday. “The rallies on Tuesday will be determined by Monday’s meeting,” NAN quoted him as saying. Wabba added that part of the report that was submitted was all inclusive of the main report and draft bill. |

no promotion no bonus no package at all at all I told us that Gov. Wike is most selfish and greedy governor we have in this country. He cannot give out where he will not receive. He can build houses and buy cars for judges, magistrate, house of assembly members but he cannot give out common #10,000 to Civil servants as Christmas bonus. He receives 1.5 Billion naira monthly as security votes but. cannot give out ordinary #10,000 to poor civil servants. He not even happy paying the monthly salaries, to him its a waste He prefers using the money for contract in other to have his own share of the contract sum. A job without promotion, no incentives, no Christmas bonus. If he comes back for second tenure, it will be terrible. If he has the opportunity to sack everybody and. eat the money alone, he will do it. Where is the 14,000 teachers he intend to employ? |
