Politics / Seven Die As Fire Guts Police Quarters In Enugu by thisisEMP: 8:39pm On Jul 28, 2011
No fewer than seven persons including little children were Thursday feared dead, while over 50 buildings housing police officers as well as officers of the Nigeria Prisons Service in Enugu were razed down when a tanker carrying fuel caught fire and exploded at a roundabout near the popular Ogbete Market.

Several police officers and prison wardens were also rendered homeless while properties worth several millions of naira including 10 cars, motorcycles, most of them belonging to either traders at the market or officers at the Central Police Station and the Nigeria Prisons were completely destroyed.

But for the timely intervention of men of the Enugu Fire Service as well as officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigeria Securities and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among other security operatives, the entire Central Police Station and the Ogbete main market would have been completely razed down.

Though, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Steven Ekpei , said only three persons died in the inferno, eye witness account had it that the deaths were not less than seven while some fire-fighters who sustained varying degrees of injuries while trying to put off the rampaging fire were rushed to Parklane hospital in Enugu.

According to the eyewitness account, the driver of the Petroleum Tanker belonging to Shorelink Oil and Gas Services Port-Harcourt with registration number XL 968 JJJ may have battled effortlessly to control the heavy vehicle at the round about before it fell down before exploding at about 7.07 am.

It was also gathered that the leaked fuel from the tanker flowed into the Enugu Central Police Station Barracks and some parts of Ogbete Main Market through a gutter located at Prison barracks.

Most of the people who lost their lives to the fire died while attempting to escape from the windows of their apartments. One of the
deceased was said to have just completed his Higher National Diploma at one of the polytechnics in Enugu.
Sports / Siasia Hits London August 5 For Ghana by thisisEMP: 8:38pm On Jul 28, 2011
Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia will hit London on August 5 for the International friendly game against the Black Stars of Ghana.

The dark complexioned soccer tactician who disclosed this to Complete Sports also said he would travel to Brazil today where the 2014 World Cup preliminary round draw will be held.

According to the former Flying Eagles coach, he will move from there to London for the International friendly game.

Both the Super Eagles and the Black Stars will clash on August 9 at the Vicarage Road, home ground of Watford FC.

“Yes, I will be travelling to Brazil on Thursday (today) for the World Cup preliminary round and from there, move to London for the international friendly game against Ghana,” says the Super Eagles coach.

Meanwhile, Complete Sports gathered that other technical crew members and the home based players invited for the August 9 tie, will arrive in London before August 5.

Celebrities / Duncan Mighty Overthrows Timaya by thisisEMP: 7:40pm On Jul 25, 2011
Once upon a time he was an unsure, upcoming producer-singer; holding tight to a day job, and auditioning for talent hunt shows. He watched as many friends got record deals, travelled to Lagos and overseas; he watched as they made it big; buying flashy cars and building houses.

Now all that has changed. Thanks to back-to-back hits the fans have favoured, thanks to album sales and performance engagements, Duncan, the one-time up comer is now a bona fide star.

Investigations by Nigerian Entertainment Today across the country show that Duncan Mighty currently sits on top of the A league; with a bestselling album and truck load of hits. The only other act who comes close is Wizkid who’s also in high demand right now.

Most importantly, in Port Harcourt, where he’s domiciled, Mighty is, apparently, a big deal. Residents who spoke with us admit he has everyone eating from his palms; and is currently rated ‘far higher than Timaya’ according to our findings.

‘Of course Duncan Mighty is the rave right now. He’s taken over from Timaya‘ a label executive told us.

Timaya was the ‘King of the South South‘ for years; launching out into prominence with the Odi-centric materials that drew national attention to the unfortunate Odi massacre. But over the years, his image has been battered by multiple controversies portraying him as an exuberant celebrity at best. Wars with the media left him scarred, and his last album performed below par.

It’s not surprising he’s lost that throne to Duncan, who, many say, is a more disciplined musician, gifted producer and far more popular with fans and the local media.

‘People like Duncan and Waconzy are the future‘ a fan tells us. Timaya has been very lucky and blessed, but he will have to work extra hard to reclaim the number one spot.
Sports / Taiwo Likely Not Ready For Duties! by thisisEMP: 7:19pm On Jul 25, 2011
Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo is not yet in the best condition to make an impact at AC Milan, the club’s coach Massimiliano Allegri has admitted.

Although Allegri has often praised the Nigerian left-back since he arrived in Milan from Marseille a few weeks ago, the Italian insists Taiwo might struggle initially for a number of reasons, including a language barrier.

After watching the player voted third best at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 behind Lionel Messi and Mikel Obi in a friendly last week, Allegri confessed that Taiwo was not yet ready to show the Italian audience what he is capable of.

While running the rule over his squad, Allegri praised the forward line of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Cassano, but trod with caution when it came to his new Nigerian star.

“Taiwo has only been with us for nine days, and at the moment he has a severe workload. He does not speak good Italian and he will also have to adapt to Italian football,” Allegri told the AC Milan website.

“Ibrahimovic and Cassano were in need of a workout, so I decided to put them on together from the first minute. They both played well and gave the best performance.
Sports / Ike Uche Blasts: Ghana Not Our Priority! by thisisEMP: 6:32pm On Jul 25, 2011
Super Eagles striker, Ikechukwu Uche wants to focus on sustainability rather than friendly match glory against Ghana, in London next month.
“Our fans and the media want us to beat Ghana but we have to be careful and manage those expectations.
“The team remain unbeaten but we must not allow the desire to beat Ghana becloud our main focus – qualifying for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
“I don’t see the point in beating Ghana and taking our focus away from the big task in Madagascar.
“We need to keep improving, build a formidable side and once we get to the level we want, then other things will follow gradually.”

In a similar fixture back in February 2007, Ghana claimed the West African bragging rights with their first win over Nigeria in 15 years, a 4-1 victory at Brentford’s Griffin Park in London.
And since then, the Super Eagles are yet to beat Ghana in any friendly or competitive game at the senior level.
But Uche who has struck five goals in three Super Eagles appearances under coach Samson Siasia, insists Nigerians should expect a tough clash.
“I’m looking forward to this game like other players because it is a game against Ghana, a country considered as our perennial rivals in football,” he said.
“A win would help the morale and confidence of the players in front of our fans in London and back home, but the crucial thing is to take the same attitude into our next game in Madagascar.”
The match is scheduled for August 9 at Vicarage Road, home of Watford Football Club a side in the English Championship.
Sports / Emenike Boasts: Ghana Are Beatable by thisisEMP: 6:29pm On Jul 25, 2011
Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has labelled the Black Stars of Ghana a 'very strong team' but very beatable.

"They had a fantastic run at the 2010 Nations Cup and World Cup, so everyone automatically expect them to continue the trend," Emenike told SuperSport.com.

"A strong team that will give us a good run, but that doesn’t mean they are unbeatable."

Nigeria and Ghana will meet at the Vicarage Road, home of Watford, on August 9 and the Super Eagles are keen to turn the table against their perennial rivals.

In a similar fixture back in February 2007, Ghana claimed the West African bragging rights with their first win over Nigeria in 15 years.

The Black Stars of Ghana triumphed by a 4-1 victory at Brentford's Griffin Park in London on that occasion.

And since then, the Super Eagles are yet to beat Ghana in any friendly or competitive game at the senior level.

But Fenerbahce of Turkey man, Emenike, knows the intense rivalry means they have to win this particular game.

"We know how significant it is to play well and win against Ghana because our fans will talk about this for a long time," Emenike said.

"Interestingly, all the players have resolved to fight hard for the 2012 Nations Cup ticket to start with but if we can do well against Ghana, that will boost the confidence of the squad."

Emenike, who scored his first Super Eagles goal in the 4-1 friendly win against Argentina early last month is looking forward to the game.

"It doesn't matter who get to play in this game or who scores, what is significant is for us to do well for Nigeria and take the same spirit into our Nations Cup qualifier," he added.
Sports / Everton Legend Begs For Yak by thisisEMP: 6:26pm On Jul 25, 2011
Everton boss,David Moyes has been told to forgive rejected Nigerian striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni so that he can build a formidable squad for the Liverpool-based club ahead of the 2011/201 Englis Premier League season.

Former Everton star,David Prentice says Moyes should do to the Yak what he once did to Duncan Ferguson whose Everton career looked all but over when he was banished from the Blues training ground in 2003 for delivering “a few home truths” to the Blues boss.

Ferguson later apologised, was welcomed back into the fold and enjoyed another two-and-a-half years at his beloved Blues.

When he finally exited Everton it was in altogether more dignified and emotional circumstances in the summer of 2006.

Ferguson proved enormously influential, especially as a big impact super-sub during the fight to finish fourth in the spring of 2005.

And it’s a lesson Moyes may learn from this summer with Yakubu who has fallen out of favour.

Yakubu wasn't with the Blues as they rounded off their tour of the USA with a 3-1 win yesterday against DC United but he could still have a role to play at a club desperately short of experienced striking options.

The seeds of Moyes’s frustration with Yakubu were sown during a harrowing home defeat by West Bromwich Albion last November.

The Nigerian was hauled off after 54 minutes of a match in which he singularly failed to break into anything more testing than a light jog.

Everton lost 4-1 – and the Yak didn’t start a match for the rest of the season. He was handed two brief substitute run-outs, then packed off on loan to Leicester City.

Sports / Dhoni Urges India To Focus On Perfomance Not Rankings by thisisEMP: 10:52am On Jul 15, 2011
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is hoping that his India continue to execute their plans then they will retain their number one Test status without too much worry.

India have topped the ICC's Test rankings for more than a year but could be knocked off their perch if England, currently third, win the upcoming four-match series by two clear victories.

India, who completed a 1-0 win in a three-Test series away to the West Indies on Sunday, have just one warm-up match - a three-day fixture against Somerset starting here on Friday - before facing England at Lord's next week.

But a congested schedule and huge expectations are nothing new for World Cup-winning skipper Dhoni.

"It's not the rankings that are important to us. What is important is to play good cricket and enjoy the sport," he told reporters at Taunton on Thursday. "The rankings will take care of themselves."

The wicketkeeper-batsman, asked about the significance of the upcoming campaign, replied: "When you represent India and 1.2 billion have expectations from you, I think every series is important.

"We can't really take any side lightly. But it is important to still stick to the basics, not thinking too much about the opposition.

"England are a very good side. We'll have to be at our best, and try to do the small things right," he added, ahead of a match against Somerset that will see England captain Andrew Strauss 'guest' for the south-west county to get more time in the middle, even though the opening batsman represents Middlesex.

India will be coached by Duncan Fletcher, who held a similar position with England and guided Michael Vaughan's men to Ashes glory in 2005.

The former Zimbabwe all-rounder's time in charge of England ended after a lacklustre 2007 World Cup campaign in the Caribbean and he insisted he had little inside information that could benefit India.

"It's four years since then, and the team has changed quite a lot," said Fletcher. "There are a couple of senior players, but we will have to look at the tapes we've got (of the others).

"It's strange for me. I never thought I'd be back in this role.

"When I left England I thought I'd never get involved with cricket. But then I got the bug again."

Sports / Roger Federer Asks Martina Hingis To Be London Olympics 2012 Mixed Doubles Partn by thisisEMP: 10:38am On Jul 15, 2011
Roger Federer may pair with Martina Hingis in the mixed doubles of the London 2012 Olympics.

Hingis revealed Federer's team had asked her about representing Switzerland together in an interview with the Ben Rothenberg of the Daily Forehand, while discussing her career on the seniors circuit.

"You're playing so well now, and there aren't really any other Swiss women near the top of the game at the moment," began Rothenberg.

"I was wondering - they're having mixed doubles at the Olympics next year, and someone who has had success in doubles in the Olympics is your countryman, Roger Federer,

"Would you play in the Olympics with him, if he asked?"

"You're tricky, right?" laughed Hingis - still aged just 30.

"Well, he kind of was like, through the angles, he already, like, you know tried, a little bit? But I don't know, "

"He already tried to ask you?" interjected Rothenberg.

"Well, I don't know," continued Hingis.

"Not him, personally, but, I mean, they asked that question, We're still a long way away, so, "

"But you're not saying no, you're open to it?" probed the Daily Forehand.

"I don't know, I don't know," squirmed Hingis.

"I'm not sure, because you have to really commit. And I feel great right now, but, you know, it's still a long way to go, it's another year.

"So just to be clear, someone from his team did ask you?" asked Rothenberg.

"Yeah, they did," admitted Hingis.

"But who knows, I mean, I would have to play some doubles before, or some mixed, who knows?"

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Everton Make Ambitious Move For Chelsea Star by thisisEMP: 10:35am On Jul 15, 2011
Everton are interested in bringing in Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge on a season-long loan.

The Toffees were originally thought to be interested in Sturridge's Stamford Bridge team mate, Salomon Kalou but - with money tight at Goodison Park - a transfer fee in excess of £10m is currently beyond their means especially with Aston Villa also reportedly keeping an eye on the Ivorian. However, the link to the Londoners was not totally wide of the mark with manager David Moyes having been impressed with the England under-21 international's displays over the past six months.

In a bid to play regular football and prove himself to be astrikerof PremierLeaguecalibre, Sturridge elected to join Bolton Wanderers on loan in January. The decision paid off with the player excelling as he netted eight times in just 12 games for the Trotters to remind Chelsea just what they were missing while £50m signing Fernando Torres continued to struggle in West London. His good form continued in the UEFA Under 21 Championship as he led the line for his country, eventually being named in UEFA's team of the tournament.

The 21-year-old has stated that he is keen to challenge for a first team place under new manager Andre Villas-Boas though he has received no assurances from the Portuguese. Everton hope to take persuade the player that he would be better served playing regularly at Goodison Park rather than warming the Stamford Bridge bench, somethingthat would be inevitable should the Blues sign one of either Neymar or Sergio Aguero who remain as high-profile targets.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Chelsea Target Signs New Deal by thisisEMP: 10:32am On Jul 15, 2011
Porto's prolific Colombia striker Falcao has agreed to extend his contract by two seasons until 2015.

Premier League giants Chelsea have been heavily linked with a big-money move for the 25-year-old marksman following the appointment of ex-Porto bossAndre Villas-Boas.

The new contract may not necessarily end Villas-Boass interest in his former striker, but it does mean the Blues will need to fork out even more cash if they are to land him with Falcao's attached release clause rising from £26.2m to £39.4m.

The striker is coming off the back of a season to remember having plundered 38 goals last term, helping Porto claim a treble of Portuguese Premier League, Portuguese Cup and Europa League.

Falcao became the top all-time scorer in a single Uefa club competition, scoring 17 goals in the Europa League campaign to break a record previously held by Germany's Jurgen Klinsmann.

He joined the Portuguese giants from Argentina's River Plate in 2009 and has scored an remarkeable 73 goals in 85 games.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Juventus Lodge £45m Bid For Unsettled Man City Star -tevez by thisisEMP: 10:29am On Jul 15, 2011
Juventus have joined the chase to sign Man City star Carlos Tevez and made a £45million bid, according to Corinthians, who have seen their own offer to buy him rejected.

2011 Copa America Live Streaming

Tevez is keen to leave Manchester City for a return to South America due to family reasons, as his children are currently based back home in Argentina.

His former club Corinthians had a £35million offer rebuffed on Tuesday and the Brazil giants have stated they will not be increasing their offer the Argentine striker.

A move to continental Europe may now be Tevezs only option with Inter Milan and Real Madrid credited with an interest in the former Manchester United player.

Juventus had been looking to make a move for Ateltico Madrids Sergio Aguero, who is now being strongly linked as the man City want to replace Tevez.

However, Juve have seemingly now shown their hand and lodged a stunning £45million offer for Tevez.

But while confirming that Juve had now made an offer, Corinthians president Andres Sanchez insists Tevez does not want to continue playing anywhere in Europe.

"Nothing has changed. They (Manchester City) have to decide whether to sell or not," said Sanchez, after seeing his Brazilian side win 1-0 against Internacional on Thursday evening.

"They have a proposal for 52million (£45million) from Juventus, but Tevez does not want to stay in Europe.

"I keep dreaming. I made the offer in the end, even I was surprised. But it now depends on City. If I am president of a club that has Tevez then I would not want to sell. But the word of the player has a lot of weight

"You see that when the player wants to leave, he will leave anyway. In football, contracts were made to be broken."

Sanchez insists that Corinthians have a plan in place that will make them one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"Within three or four years, Brazilian soccer is going to be the world's richest. Just do the accounts," he said."The Corinthians have a recipe that no-one imagined two years ago. Corinthians will be, financially speaking, one of the world's strongest teams."

Sanchez said that their offer would remain on the table until January, adding: "He has until early next year to decide."

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Arsenal And Chelsea Track £13m Italy Star -riccardo Montolivo by thisisEMP: 10:26am On Jul 15, 2011
Chelsea and Arsenal are on red alert after Fiorentina revealed they are ready to cash in on unsettled midfielder Riccardo Montolivo.

Stoke City v Chelsea Live Streaming

The Italy international only has one year left on his Viola contract and has shown reluctance in committing to the club.

The Florence club has offered Montolivo new terms following Gaetano D'Agostino's Udinese switch, however, the player and his representatives are stalling on proceedings.

Chelsea and Arsenal are understood to be monitoring developments closely after it was reported that Fiorentina had grown impatient with Montolivio and were ready to sell him for a cut price £13m rather than lose him for nothing next season.

AC Milan are also believed to be keen on the 26-year-old, who is similar in style to Andrea Pirlo and favours the deep-lying playmaker role.

Chelsea are looking to bring in a replacement for the injured Michael Essien and have been linked with moves for West Hams Scott Parker and Marseilles Lucho Gonzalez.

While Arsenal are planning for life without midfield stars Cesc Fabregas, who is Barcelona bound, and contract rebel Samir Nasri, who is attracting interest from Manchester City and Manchester United.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Arsenal Plot £27m Big-name Signing In Bid To Keep Duo by thisisEMP: 8:56pm On Jul 14, 2011
Arsene Wenger has enquired into the availability of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as the Gunners boss seeks a big name signing to persuade Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to stay at Arsenal.

Arsenal v Hangzhou Greentown

The Arsenal boss knows losing the pair will have a detrimental effect on club morale, with Fabregas seemingly Barcelona bound and contract rebel Nasri attracting interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.

Wenger is willing to smash the club's transfer record with a £27m bid for Benzema and prove to his unsettled stars that that they can achieve their career ambitions with the Gunners.

Arsenal have already completed the £10m signing of Ivory Coast striker Gervinho from Lille this week and now Wenger is keen to sign another top-class forward to take the goalscoring burden off the injury prone Robin van Persie.

While Wenger recognises the goalscoring impact Benzema could have on the pitch, the Frenchman also hopes that signing his 24-year-old compatriot will prove a turning point in what has been a difficult transfer window for the club.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is keen for the Benzema to remain at the Bernabeu despite the striker failing to hold down a regular spot in Jose Mourinho's team.

Meanwhile, the Spanish giants have been linked with a £40m bid for unsettled Manchester City striker Carlos Tevex on the back of Corinthians failed £35m bid for the Argentine star.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Liverpool Target Czech Defender To Fill Problem Position by thisisEMP: 8:53pm On Jul 14, 2011
Liverpool are ready to rekindle their interest in Bayer Leverkusens Michael Kadlec having grown frustrated in their pursuit of a new left-back.

Liverpool v Sunderland Live Streaming

The Reds have limited options on the left side of their defence, where England right-back Glen Johnson was often forced to fill in last season as Anfield flop Paul Konchesky was loaned to Nottingham Forest and yester day sold to Leicester City

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has found it difficult to solve the problem position so far this summer as top transfer target Gael Clichy opted to join Manchester City , while Newcastles £15m asking price for Jose Enrique has proved a stumbling block in agreeing a deal.

Dalglish will now turn his attention to Kadlec, who was the subject of a scouting mission last summer by Liverpool before former boss Roy Hodgson signed Konchesky.

The 26-yearold Czech Republic international is only under contract with Leverkusen until 2013 and has refused to confirm that he will sign a new deal,

The German outfit value Kadlec in excess of £6m, a valuation based on the fullbacks impressive form last season as he helped the club finish runners-up in the Bundesliga.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Manchester United Signing Ashley Young; Delighted With Debut Victory by thisisEMP: 7:54pm On Jul 14, 2011
Ashley Young said he already felt at home in a Manchester United jersey after making his debut in his new club's 4-1 friendly win against New England Revolution.

Seattle Sounders v Manchester United live streaming

The reigning English champions kicked off their pre-season tour of the United States with a straightforward win at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday.

Young, who arrived from Aston Villa last month for a fee of around £17 million ($27.4m), saw his new employers prevail through goals from Michael Owen and Park Ji-Sung and a Federico Macheda brace.

"No, there weren't any nerves," Young told MUTV. "I've gone into the game as I normally do, playing the normal same way. I've done that again tonight (Wednesday). I wasn't nervous at all.

"It's a pre-season game and about fitness and I'll build on this. Of course, it's always a nice feeling putting on a Manchester United shirt."

Owen put the visitors in front in the 50th minute, before a brace from Macheda put the game to bed.

Kenny Mansally pulled a goal back for the hosts but United restored their three-goal advantage with 10 minutes remaining, Park coolly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth from a Ryan Giggs pass.

Young, who has 15 England caps, played for 67 minutes in a right-wing position and is expected to compete with fellow wingers Nani and Antonio Valencia for a place in United's starting XI.

He can also play as a central attacking midfielder, however, and United coach Sir Alex Ferguson said his versatility made him a valuable acquisition.

"(Right wing) was his position with Aston Villa until last season, when they started playing him in behind the strikers -- Gabriel Agbonlahor or Darren Bent -- in a more advanced role, like the way we use Wayne Rooney," said Ferguson.

"His capabilities are such that he can play wide left, he can play in behind the strikers and he can play wide right. He showed tonight he's a fantastic crosser of the ball."

Macheda, 19, is seeking to make a mark at Old Trafford after failing to impress during a loan spell at Sampdoria last season that culminated in the Italian side being relegated to Serie B.

"I've learned a lot from that experience. It makes me a better player and a better man, the bad experience makes you grow up," the Italian told MUTV.

The win marked United's first appearance since their 3-1 loss to Barcelona in May's Champions League final and Wayne Rooney said it was time for the club to put that painful defeat behind them.

"You have to draw a line under what happened at Wembley," he said.

"You have to look forward, not back. We won the Premier League and we need to look forward at the trophies we will be competing for.

"We have an exciting young team now and hopefully we can bring more success to the club."

United have three more friendly games scheduled in the US, with Seattle Sounders their next opponents on July 20th.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Manchester United Abandon Sneijder Pursuit For New Playmaker Transfer by thisisEMP: 7:41pm On Jul 14, 2011
Manchester United have never attempted to sign Internazionale star Wesley Sneijder, a club source has told a BBC journalist - but may still enter the transfer market for a playmaker.

Seattle Sounders v Manchester United live streaming

"Ive had confirmation that Manchester United are NOT trying to sign Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan and never were in for him," stated Howard Nurse of the BBC on his Twitter account.

This backs up Sir Alex Ferguson's comments earlier today denying a move would take place.

"I keep reading about this, there's absolutely nothing at all to that," Ferguson said to ESPN Soccernet.

"First of all I don't think Inter are prepared to sell him anyway."

"You get conjecture and you get speculation every week in newspapers unfortunately. And we have to answer these for some reason - why, I don't know, but we have to find a reason without adding insult to any particular club, or embarrassing any particular player.

"There's nothing we can do about it."

Still, regardless of the Sneijder transfer rumours, Ferguson hinted a playmaker will be bought in the wake of Paul Scholes' retirement.

"How do you replace someone like Paul Scholes?"

If you were to bracket the best four midfield players in the world, he'd be up there with Xavi and Andres Iniesta, then take your pick from somebody else."

"He's certainly, to my mind, one of the top four in the world, so it's a loss.

"It's impossible to get another Paul Scholes.

"But if we can get another player on similar lines in terms of quality of passing and vision then, yeah, we would have to do something."

With words such as those, Manchester United will continue to be linked with the likes of Palermo star Javier Pastore, Ganso of Santos and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric - though the latter is seemingly set for Chelsea.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Arsenal Offer Midfielder In Exchange For England Defender by thisisEMP: 7:37pm On Jul 14, 2011
Arsenal remain interested in Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill, and will offer wantaway midfielder Denilson in part exchange for the centre back, according to the Metro.

Arsenal v Hangzhou Greentown live streaming

The Brazilian midfielder came on at half time for Arsenal in their 4-0 victory over a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur, but was replaced 20 minutes later with no visible injury trouble.

The ignominy of being a substituted substitute certainly irked Denilson.

He immediately stormed off down the tunnel, which so far appears the only blemish on an otherwise successful Asia tour for Arsenal.

Arsenal have long been linked with Gary Cahill, but are reportedly struggling to match the £17m demanded by Bolton boss Owen Coyle.

It is believed that their offer of Nicklas Bendtner to the Trotters as part of the deal went down like a lead balloon, and so manager Arsene Wenger may attempt to lower the price by sending Denilson to the Reebok Stadium.

JeSoul:

^ and what exactly are you on about?

Do all men on NL post on soccer topics? Unfortunately there isn't a ton of interest in female soccer on NL and that is perfectly fine especially when the Nigerian team is already out. Go to other sites and see both men and women really into it. Infact and for your information, I have watched almost every single game of the Women's world cup and supported in other ways. I was even exploring the possibility of attending the next WWC to be held in Canada not too far from me - all this is by far better and useful to female soccer than opening a forced topic on NL that will get only 50 views and 5 comments. There'll probably be a thread for the finals match, but there is no point in opening threads that ppl aren't interested in.

With that I say shame on you for saying shame on NL's wonderful women tongue

NICE EXCUSE, BUT I THINK WOMEN SHOULD STEP UP!
