A PROFESSIONAL ARMY THAT NEVER RETREATS INSPITE OF FACING OVERWHELMING ODDS.....RUNNING AWAY IS NOT AN OPTION
|
The military with 6 Gripen Pilots, one submarine, one Olifant Tank but very effective and no specialist in short sprinting or marathon running to Chad, Cameroon and Niger. Atleast its a professional army that never complaint about old and ineffective weapons......Atleast its not an army that spend $5 Billion dollars in the last 5 years to refurbish its military but yet soldiers still complain of being neglected and praises Boko Haram of possessing superior fire power.

Germany company Diehl Defence has signed an agreement with Rippel Effect to jointly market the South African company’s 40 mm grenade launchers. Diehl and Rippel Effect Systems (RES) will qualify Diehl’s 40 mm medium-velocity ammunition for Rippel Effect’s XRGL40 and UBL40 grenade launchers, according to Diehl Defence. “Deployment of our insensitive infantry ammunition in two further grenade launchers belonging to the best worldwide, is a big vote of confidence for us enhancing the export opportunities of our proven 40 mm ammunition family”, said Franz Kienzler, Head of the Business Unit Land Forces of Diehl BGT Defence. “Our compact and light grenade launchers, combined with Diehl’s ammunition, achieve an additional competitive advantage benefiting infantry and special forces in their struggle against terror and violence”, added Fritz Visser, CEO of Rippel Effect Systems.. Both partners agreed to offer complete weapon systems, consisting of the grenade launcher and ammunition, in certain core markets as part of the agreement. RES manufactures 40 mm multi-shot grenade launchers, certified to fire both low and medium velocity rounds. Its XRGL40 extended grenade launcher also fires less-than-lethal riot/crowd control ammunition, including rubber, ball, soft-nose, illuminating and smoke grenades. The company also offers its UBL40 under-barrel grenade launcher for assault rifles and its GR40 electronically programmable sighting system, able to distinguish between the use of low- and medium velocity ammunition. Rippel Effect says it has exported thousands of 40 mm grenade launchers to more than 30 countries around the world. Diehl is involved in South Africa through the supply of IRIS-T air-to-air missiles for the South African Air Force’s 26 Gripen fighter jets. The first missiles were delivered in 2009. Diehl has also test-fired its missiles (including the IRIS-T Surface Launch) at Denel’s Overberg Test Range in the southern Cape. According to Jane’s, Diehl has previously partnered with Denel over artillery ammunition. |
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa and the University of Blida in Algeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Centre of Excellence (JCoE) in aeronautics research. The signing took place at the recent International Exhibition of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in Algeria. The JCoE is facilitated by the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) to establish a working relationship where Algeria would be strengthened in the field of aeronautics and the DST supported in expanding the South Africa/Algeria science and technology bilateral. Potential fields of co-operation include technologies for UAVs; avionics and ground systems; aircraft structures; gas turbines; wind tunnels; store integration; hypersonic flow; flow control; space technologies; computational methods; aero-elasticity; optronics; radar and aero acoustics. “Outside of South Africa, there are really no other significant aeronautics research capabilities and facilities in Africa. Algeria’s equivalent Science and Technology Department understands the requirement for Africa to take ownership of its aeronautics research requirements and is delighted to close the African aeronautics research chasm through collaboration with South Africa,” Acting Executive Director at CSIR DPSS retired air force major general Des Barker said. CSIR Aeronautics experts attended the International Exhibition of UAVs and model aircraft held under the patronage of the President of Algeria and facilitated by the Director General of Scientific Research and Technological development in Algeria. The CSIR presented on various topics and performed a flight demonstration of the CSIR’s Indiza Mini UAV. Also participating were foreign universities and scientific institutions specialised in the field of aeronautics from several countries, including Tunisia, Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Russia and Brazil. |
South African company Rippel Effect Systems has landed another contract for IGS-4S day/night sights for the Colombian Army which has now standardised on this item of equipment from Rippel for all its cavalry requirements. The company expects to complete installation on the whole Colombian Cascavel armoured combat vehicle fleet during next year. The IGS-4S was launched as a Rippel product two years ago and the technology is licensed from South African firm Vision 24 Observation Systems. The model selected by Colombia is the IGS-4S compact video sighting system, which can be utilised in conjunction with various vehicle-mounted weapons in calibres ranging from 7.62 mm to 125 mm. The system provides the operator with a 24/7 below-armour observation and ranging capability to fire the weapon in all weather conditions, low visibility and darkness. Rippel Effect said the IGS-4S accommodates multiple sensors tailored to suit user requirements and weapon choice. As a single system it can be pre-programmed with ballistic aiming marks for any weapon and the various types of ammunition for the selected weapon. IGS-4S has the additional ability to range distance to target. It has a laser rangefinder, day camera, uncooled thermal imaging and multi-function screen, which displays aim points and system parameters, as well as controls for the thermal camera. The system is optimised for installation in small vehicles where space is of prime consideration. Rippel Effect Systems The company has developed a video bore sighting device as well as a day/night sight, the VK-RSS-02, that can be used with the secondary weapon on armoured vehicles (such as the 7.62 machine gun on the Cascavel). Both the bore-sight and the VK-RSS-02 integrate seamlessly with the IGS-4S System. The video bore sight makes bore sighting possible by one person from inside the vehicle. The VK-RSS-02 makes it possible to use the secondary weapon from below-armour. The VK-RSS-02 can also be used as hand-held thermal imaging device. Rippel Effect is known for its series of 40 mm grenade launchers and is focusing on three main products: its new less lethal six-shot multiple grenade launcher RLL37/38 which will be marketed in association with two of the world’s foremost less lethal ammunition manufacturers - Condor of Brazil and ALS of the US; the XRGL40 extended range 40 mm MGL and IGS-4S targeting and sighting system. The XRGL40 can fire low velocity, medium velocity and less lethal ammunition with very low port pressures, including rubber, ball, soft-nose, illuminating and smoke grenades. The 5 kg XRGL40 fires a 220 gram medium velocity projectile to a range of 800 metres, versus 375 metres for low velocity ammunition. Designed as a true multi-role weapon system, it comes with the GR40 smart multi-velocity sight, which allows the soldier to fire 40 mm ammunition with different ballistic profiles from the same weapon - both 40x46 mm low-velocity and 40x51 mm medium-velocity grenades and also the latest less-lethal rounds. Rippel Effect started marketing the six shot XRGL40 in 2011/12 and in the last two years has managed to sell the XRGL40 extended range 40mm MGL to eight different countries, the extended range 40mm MGL System is now operational in the Middle East, Latin America and Far East. The XRGL40 is also used in 40 x 51mm extended range ammunition development programs by RDM (South Africa), Diehl BGT Defence (Germany), Energetics Technologies Ltd (UK) and Indumil (Colombia).

Reutech Radar Systems yesterday launched a new book detailing the history of radar in South Africa and 25 years of Reutech Radar Systems. Radar is celebrating 75 years in South Africa, with the first system tested in Johannesburg on 16 December 1939. Reutech Radar Systems (RRS) said that the history of radar in the country is closely intertwined with RRS and this is detailed in the book entitled RRS: 25 Years of Innovation. Radar development in South Africa began when the British government decided in February 1939 to let members of the Commonwealth in on the emerging technology of radar so they could help with its development and deployment. A small team under Sir Basil Schonland, head of the Bernard Price Institute of Geophysical Research at the University of the Witwatersrand soon developed a system, which was tested in December 1939. By the mid-1970s South Africa had built up radar expertise, particularly at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the military and Armscor but there was little capacity to build its own radar systems. One of the few companies to locally develop and produce radars was Reutech Radar Systems, founded in 1987 as ESD-South and headed by Managing Director Boel Pretorius. With the help of Stellenbosch University Professor Pieter van der Walt and his students, and the support of the Defence Force and Armscor, RRS began developing radars for South Africa. The company’s first success was the Kameelperd truck mounted air defence radar which remains in service with the South African National Defence Force, in upgraded form. RRS in 1999 received a contract to provide radars for the South African Navy and later achieved a major success with the export of helicopter control radars for the Royal Norwegian Navy’s Fridtjof Nansen frigates.READ MORE Reutech radars have been sold to some 20 countries but the company offers other products such as mining radars, tracking systems for concentrated solar plants and shock protection systems. It has also provided components for the South African Large Telescope (SALT). Speaking at the book launch in Centurion yesterday, Armscor acting divisional head of radar and electronic warfare Molahlegi Molope said it was important to have 100% South African companies like RRS to maintain and develop skills and innovation. RRS: 25 Years of Innovation tells the story of RRS, its technologies and people from inception to today and how it diversified from military radar to commercial products and systems. Today around half of RRS revenue comes from civil and half from military business with a similar split regarding domestic and export revenue. CEO Carl Kies said that, “we have proven expertise among others in mechanical design, systems engineering, project management, radio frequency electronic design, signal processing, software design and development, antenna system design, digital electronic design, synthesizer design, power amplifier design and logistics. Add to this the skills we have assembled in terms of support systems.” |
Reutech has unveiled its new B-Cat unmanned ground vehicle, armed with a 12.7 mm machinegun, and Super Rogue 3 weapons turret, armed with a 20 mm cannon and four missiles. The 3x3 B-Cat vehicle can be remotely operated at distance of up to 5 km and is designed for things like perimeter control. It can be armed with a 12.7 mm Browning machinegun but the armed version is still being finalised. The vehicle was displayed at the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) exhibition in September with a mast-mounted Reutech radar and day sights, but can be fitted with other sights. The civil version of the B-Cat has been around for some seven years and started out as an unmanned mining vehicle for exploring blasting areas. At the beginning of this year B-Cat partnered with Reutech to produce a military version, which will be available for a variety of missions such as anti-poaching, reconnaissance, perimeter surveillance, riot control etc. The B-Cat is one hundred per cent South African designed and built. Reutech said it is quite unique on the continent and had generated a lot of interest during AAD 2014. NAIRAS MUMU CONTINUE LAMENTING WHILE SOUTH AFRICA MOVES FORWARD WITH NEW INVENTION

The new 96 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic solar power project in South Africa's Northern Cape province is now online and will help the country meet its critical electricity needs. The Jasper plant, near Kimberly, is the largest on the continent and can produce 180 000 megawatt-hours of energy a year for South African residents, enough to power up 80 000 homes. The project was completed two months ahead of schedule and is fully operational, SolarReserve, the developer, announced on 11 November. Jasper is located in a solar park near Kimberly that also includes the 75 MW Lesedi solar power project, which came online in May. Also on the cards is the even-bigger 100 MW Redstone concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) tower. SolarReserve, along with partner ACWA Power, is bidding for the planned Redstone CSP project, which will use of SolarReserve's CSP technology with integrated energy storage. As part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), a percentage of total project revenues from the Jasper project will be set aside for Enterprise Development and Socio-Economic Development for the benefit of the local communities. |
