NO fewer than 15 people, including four policemen,
were, on Tuesday, killed by armed men who invaded a
commercial bank in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North-West
Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to an eyewitness, the robbers arrived at the
scene of the incident around 3.00 p.m in a military van
and bombarded a police station close to the bank with
gunshots.
The bandits were said to have divided themselves into
two groups, while a group faced the policemen, the
other invaded the bank using dynamite to blow off the
bulletproof security door, so as to gain access into the
banking hall.
He said no fewer than 11 people within the bank
premises were killed during the raid, while four
policemen were also feared dead during the attack.
According to the source, the armed men, dressed in
police uniform, were said to have attacked a police
station before attacking the bank situated at jubilee
junction, on Ikare-Owo road while they carted away
undisclosed amount of money from the bank
It was gathered that this would be the third time the
bank would be experiencing such attack in recent time.
Speaking on the development, the state Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Wole Ogodo, when contacted,
said information about the robbery was still sketchy,
saying the command was awaiting report from Ikare
police division as of the time of writing this reports.
