Aide to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko on legislative and political matters, Olorogun Godwin Obire, has addressed the misconceptions surrounding the Ned Nwoko Anioma State Creation Bill in the National Assembly.

Speaking to the press in Asaba, Obire stated that some political distractors, who were unable to sponsor any bills themselves, were underground sponsoring and spreading misinformation about the proposed bill for the creation of Anioma State. He called out their lack of contribution and accused them of viewing Anioma people as a television set, with themselves as the remote control.

While Obire welcomed constructive criticism, he emphasized the need to focus on the actualization of Anioma State and the legislative and legal framework provided by Senator Ned's bill. He clarified that the agitation for Anioma State has existed long before Senator Ned's tenure and that the regional labels are irrelevant to the substance of the matter.

Obire further explained that the struggle for Anioma State began in 1980 and was championed by figures like Senator Nosike Ikpo. Originally consisting of four local governments, Anioma now comprises nine. However, the bar on the creation of new states has hindered its progress.

According to Obire, Anioma's request for statehood is not just Senator Ned's request but the request of the Anioma people themselves. They have previously presented their case to former President Obasanjo and have been advocating for the creation of Anioma State for a long time.

Obire concluded by praising Senator Ned for providing a legislative and legal framework to expedite the creation of Anioma State. He urged people to focus on the substance of the matter rather than getting caught up in regional labels and political geography. The aim is to create Anioma State, which is what truly matters.

It is important to note that Anioma was supposed to have been created in January 1994, but due to political events, the process was halted. However, the determination for the creation of Anioma State remains strong, and Senator Ned's bill aims to provide the necessary framework for its achievement.

I want the privately drafted bill sent to Tinubu to be reworked and sent as an executive bill to the Senate and House of Reps for deliberation. Because it is that time you will see all SE legislators opposing the bill with all they have just as they staged a walk out during plenary hearings for an executive bill seeking to set 25% allocation from oil revenue to oil producing states. Wabara led the walkout and in another session , stood up and opposed the bill claiming "it won't be beneficial to my people". This was because at the time of the bill being debated, federal allocations to states were done exclusively on population basis so much so that the oil rich Niger Delta state got far less than any state in the SE and polity at large.

It only took the gentleman Yaradua to dust up the bill for payment of royalties to oil producing states from where he succeeded in getting 13% derivative to oil producing states.

Now it's important I point this history out because any bill seeking a return to true federalism and regional governance will see to the SE becoming very poor in terms of revenue as the majority of revenue used to run their states still come from federal handouts.

So with this in mind and past antecedents of SE politics dating back to Ironsi , do you think SE legislators will support any piece of legislature that will return Nigeria back to her original template at independence ?
