From my own understanding, if the ball touches an attacking player's hand enroute to a goal, the goal 100% does not stand. No refs discretion is needed at all.

If it happens to a defending player then it's left for the ref and VAR to determine if the hand was in an unnatural position, if it made him bigger and other stuffs like that..

The two scenarios are quite different tho.
