The battle line has finally been drawn between national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and the controversial senator representing Kogi west, Dino Melaye following the senator’s recent action against Oluremi Tinubu, a fellow senator.

Tinubu has declared, through his spokesperson, Sunday Dare, that the battle-line had been drawn between him and Melaye, who allegedly used unprintable words on his wife during the session.

He also declared that Melaye had begun a journey to his political end. Both senators reportedly had a clash on Tuesday, July 12 while senators held a close-door session to discuss the alleged forgery case against Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy, and two others. Melaye had reportedly threatened to beat Senator Tinubu.

He was also alleged to have used the ‘f’ word on the woman and declared that he would impregnate her and nothing would happen. But Melaye denied the allegation that he threatened to beat up Oluremi.

It was learnt that Melaye got angry with Oluremi for rejecting a suggestion by the former that the Senate should commence impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari. Oluremi had suggested that commencing the impeachment process would make the Executive back down on the trial.

Asiwaju warned that he would deal mercilessly with Melaye if he tried to touch his wife as threatened. Dare said on his Twitter handle: “Dino Malaye sunk to the lowest ever today. From this point, it is downhill for him. “A disgrace to the Senate of the Republic‎. “A‎nd if Dino thinks nothing will happen if he dare beats up another Senator, then he must be living in a fools paradise. “Things will happen.”

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has signed a new five-year contract with the club, the club confirmed on Thursday. The player had been linked with a move away this transfer window as he demonstrated outstanding performance and scored 32 goals for Atletico this season.

According to the deal, the contract will keep him at the Vicente Calderon until 2021.

A father who left his six-month-old daughter in the back of a hot van for four hours put her in a fridge to try to revive her before she died, police say.

Michael Thedford, 33, was charged with manslaughter after arriving police found the child dead in the kitchen.
It emerged that the former high school teacher, from Dallas, had dropped off his three- and five-year-old children at daycare at around 9am on Tuesday, but returned home and took a nap, only to wake and realise he had left his daughter in his van, Unitednaija reports

With her husband’s personal account frozen, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to invite Feyisetan Fayose, the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, for allegedly receiving N100m through an account operated by her and her husband.

EFCC said Abiodun Agbele, an associate of the governor paid the money paid into the account of Spotless Investment Limited on June 17, 2014 with bank teller number 0540997.

The two signatories to Spotless Investment Limited’s account are Fayose and his wife. “N100m was paid into the Spotless Investment Limited account with number 1010170969 at Zenith Bank. The two signatories are Fayose, with Bank Verification Number 22338867502, and his wife, Helen Olayemi, with BVN 22298990256,” EFCC detective said.

While Fayose enjoys immunity and cannot be prosecuted or arrested “His wife, however, has no immunity,” the source added. The Arsenal forward has praised the late coach for his knowledge of the game and passion for country during his lifetime.

Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has paid tribute to late coach Shaibu Amodu, the former technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation, who died at the weekend aged 58.

The 20-year-old recalled a meeting with Amodu before the Super Eagles’ 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Egypt in Kaduna last March.

He said Amodu, who led nigeria to qualify for the 2002 and 2010 World Cups and also finished third with Nigeria at two Afcon tournaments, enjoined the players to wear the national colours with pride, dedication and commitment.

“What struck me most was Coach Amodu’s in-depth knowledge of the game, his attention to detail and his calm manner and approach,” Iwobi said in a tribute made available to Goal.

“He was assertive and very encouraging to the team and made it clear that the hopes and aspirations of the nation rested on our shoulders.

The politician also vowed that he would never relent in offering selfless service to humanity while he remained at his post. Speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja in commemoration of his first year in office, Ambode said his election victory was a clear indication that God was involved right from the beginning.

Ambode, who stated that he never thought he would go so far in politics, maintained that he would continue to draw strength and inspiration from the Almighty.


“Exactly a year ago today, I stood before a larger congregation trying to commit myself to the opportunity that you gave me to serve you and I have tried as much as possible not to misplace that opportunity,” the governor said. “I just want to thank everybody for believing in me.

When I became a politician, I used to call myself a techno-politician that is a technocrat and a politician. I never believed that I could ever survive up until this moment if not for the grace of God.

I believe so much that this is an assignment from God and that is why I am doing it with all my totality and give back to humanity. God has been too kind to me and for that reason; I have decided that I will serve the people selflessly to the will of God.” The Governor then said he appreciated all those that stood by him, especially his mother, family and wife, Bolanle, who he described as a prayer warrior.

He further thanked his predecessor, national leader of the All Progressives Congress Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Oba of Lagos, HRM Oba Rilwan Akiolu for believing in him and supporting him his endeavor to become the most powerful man in Lagos state.

Cristiano Ronaldo relishes the Champions League. The Portuguese is the all-time top scorer in the continental competition and on Saturday he can join a select band of players to have won it three times. But he has never quite made his mark on a final, as Lionel Messi has over the course of his glittering Barcelona career.

If he scores in Milan on Saturday, Ronaldo will make more history by becoming the first player to net in three separate finals, having hit the target for Manchester United versus Chelsea in 2008 and then for Real Madrid against Atletico in 2014.

But those stats do not tell the entire story. Despite the two goals, the 31-year-old’s three appearances in European football’s foremost fixture have had as much disappointment as they have brilliance. And as Atletico loom again on Saturday, Madrid may well need more from their talisman this time around.

In the 2007-08 final Ronaldo opened the scoring with a wonderful header to give United the lead against Chelsea, but after Frank Lampard’s leveller the Portuguese paused in his run-up in the penalty shootout and saw his spot-kick saved by Petr Cech. It was United’s only miss in the series and had it not been for John Terry’s slip minutes later as the Chelsea captain hit the post it would have cost Sir Alex Ferguson’s side the trophy.
A year later, United were back in the final – this time against Barca – and all the talk ahead of the game was whether this would be the Portuguese’s final match for the Old Trafford outfit as Madrid stepped up their interest.
Ronaldo rarely threatened in a one-sided final as Barcelona put on a masterclass in a 2-0 win, which saw Messi make sure of the victory with a tremendous towering header. The Argentine was also involved in the build-up to the opener netted by Samuel Eto’o as Cristiano cut a forlorn figure. The Madeira-born winger tried to do everything himself and grew increasingly frustrated in what was a disappointing display.



And after Messi had starred in Barca’s 2011 Wembley win against United again, hitting a superb strike from outside the box and playing his part in the third goal for David Villa in a Man of the Match performance, Ronaldo reached the final once more in 2014.
Back in the Portuguese capital and the city where he had started his professional career, Cristiano was short of full fitness and showed only glimpses of his ability in the Lisbon showpiece. When Madrid needed inspiration against Atleti it came via Sergio Ramos, Angel Di Maria and Gareth Bale, not from Ronaldo.
