http://newsspot-ng..com.ng/2015/11/bonny-pdp-member-goes-berserk-destroys.html?m=0#more The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party in the state of the destruction of APC non indigenes secretariat in the state. The APC alleged that the PDP in bonny carried out the destruction with the help of the landlord of the property one Mr. Asinyetogha Jumbo a.k.a Oboaja at the secretariat of APC non-indigenes in Bonny located on Hospital Road, Bonny. According to the report lodged with the State Secretariat of the APC in Port Harcourt Monday, trouble started after Mr. Asinyetogha Jumbo, a staunch member of the PDP in Bonny after the inauguration of the Bonny CTC over the weekend. Straight from the event, he went and attacked and destroyed the billboards, flags and other signage of the APC around the secretariat that serves as APC non-indigenes' Secretariat in Bonny. The landlord then descended on the secretariat, defacing and destroying parts of the secretariat beyond use. All attempts by eyewitnesses to restrain the assailant reportedly proved abortive. The tenants were eventually forced to report the matter to the Bonny Divisional Police who reportedly arrested Mr. Jumbo. However, the APC later learnt that the culprit was released by the Police under hazy circumstances that have left the complainants asking many questions than they are getting answers. The APC however urged the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to urgently and vigorously intervene in the matter and ensure that Mr. Asinyetogha Jumbo is immediately arrested and prosecuted. "The APC would like to count on the resolve of CP Musa Kimo to nip violence and criminality in the bud and, in this case, personally get the Bonny Divisional Police office to do the needful by making Mr. Jumbo face the law without delay to forestall our members from the temptation and lure of self-help"

Bayelsa State pensioners, under the aegis of Association of Bayelsa Pensioners, have accused the Seriake Dickson's administration of owing them over N20bn gratuity arrears and four months unpaid pension. The Coordinator, Association of Bayelsa Pensioners, Chief Bodise Amara, made this known in an interactive session with Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Bayelsa State. Timipri Sylva. Amara said though they were not out to campaign for any candidate, the present administration of Dickson had failed the retirees by owing them pension gratuity debt of over N20bn and unpaid pension arrears of four months. He maintained that the pensioners in the state had not been paid their gratuity arrears since 2014. "Sylva left the sum of N3.5bn as pension arrears and gratuity. The pension and gratuity arrears are now N20bn. We don't know when we would be paid. We are not campaigning but we are saying that for four months, pensions have not been paid. "So many things are happening in Bayelsa and nobody is considering the pensioners. When he (Sylva) has decided to come and tell us he is contesting, we pray for him. Any Governor that considers the plight of the pensioners, God will bless him. Anybody contesting should have met with the senior citizens. The prayers of the elders will help him. The battle has already been won." In response, Sylva, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, sympathised with them over their predicament. He assured them that if elected into office as governor, his administration would place much premium on the payment of their gratuity and pensions. http://www.newsspot-ng..in/2015/11/bayelsa-pensioner-accuse-dickson-of.html?m=1

http://newsspot-ng..com.ng/2015/11/okpella-crises-rights-group-berates.html?m=0#more Civil Society group, Nigeria Rights Protection Group (NRPG) has condemned the activities of a frontline Nigerian cement manufacturing company DANGOTE cements in Okpella community of Speaking on behalf of Group, the Coordinator of the group Comrade Ibrahim Mohammed in a press conference yesterday in Abuja, condemned in strong terms the activities of Dangote Cement Company which according to him are disrupting the peaceful co existence between Kogi and Edo state indigigenes leaving around the border town of Okpella. " It is no longer news that Dangote cement is expanding its business frontiers beyond the African continent, however despite its ascending traits, its activities in Okpella land calls for serious government scrutiny, as it is against all rules of business transactions globally. The group also queried the involvement of a prominent traditional leader in the controversial limestone transaction in the area. "We are made to understand that the Attah of Ebiraland Alhaji Ado Ibrahim using his company sold limestone deposits in Obu Okpella land to Dangote Cement Company. It beats our imagination why the King of Ebira would sell mineral deposits sited in a town located in Edo State. This is not normal." the group stated. "As such we view the interest of Dangote in the mineral resources in Okpella to pursuing a monopolistic agenda. Our concern is the desperate attempt to colonize the God's given gift of the people of Okpella by force through force, intimidation and destabilization of the host community. "What baffles us the most is the Invasion of the community by thugs allegedly sponsored by the Cement Company which led to the death of a man and the kidnapping of two expatriates. While we condemn in strong terms the brazen attack on that peaceful community by thugs supposedly sponsored by Dangote Cement." The Rights group called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) to "without delay set up an investigative panel to unravel the roles of the Attah of Ebira and his accomplices who are making life difficult for the people of Okpella." NRPG noted that there has never been any serious border clashes between inhabitants of Kogi state and Edo state, for centuries adding that they have been living with one another in peace and unity. We believe the federal government need to urgently intervene as any lukewarm attitude towards this issue will not augur well for the security and peace of the nation. "The people of Okpella have rights over mineral deposits in their town. And they have a right to fight for their patrimony. What moral right has a king superintending over another kingdom to dispose mineral resources of the people of Okpella,l" they queried. The group also called on the National Assembly, particularly its Committee on National Security in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to view this attack on the Okpella Community as a matter of serious national concern, "The people of this community are living in fear. We should all be reminded that Nigeria today needs peace, and any breach of security in any part of the country will stifle development particularly as this government is here for change. "We call on the federal government to nip the impending crisis in Okpella in the bud as there is tension in that community. A stitch in time saves nine," the group warned. Y |
