you're getting it all mixed up . . . no one said you were ugly, simply interpreted why AAs would call you african simply by looking at you. We've all been through it before . . . i remember a skinny AA chic telling me point black she knew i was african the first time she saw me, asked her to explain and of course she was busy hemming and hawing. Of course i got the message . . . funny thing was as a guy i was finer than she was.I'm not sure where you are in the world, do you live in Nigeria? Because most AAs are not heavily mixed looking, a lot of them have similar features to me. I have African Americans, much darker than me, with very strong Afrocentric features asking me if I am from Africa. |
How do u look?I don't know. I am brownskin, I have long hair, dark eyes. I am average in size. |
lol what a silly little girl. That is what the other posters said. One guy said that the AAs guys think i am ugly when they say I look 'west african'. That they only go after the lightskin girls with keen features. But even teh lightskin girls they go after have west african features as well |
Can you briefly show us a picture of yoursellf.I don't trust the posters here enough to show a picture of myself. I only described how I look and they already said I was ugly can you imagine if I showed a picture |
Hold my head up high?? How?? I am being discriminated against because I look too black to AAs. Someone tells me that I am ugly because I look West African. And I am still supposed to have self esteem after being told that I'm sorry but I find this devestating. |
so you only feel good about yourself when someone else says so? Dear you are wonderfully and beautifully made like my bible says . . . it doesnt matter what anyone says. As guys too we get rebuffed sometimes by Americans who feel we are too "african" for them and they dont want to contaminate their bloodline with flat noses and coarse hair but guess what? We brush it off and move on to others . . . no big deal. As far as i'm concerned, its their loss not mine. It's natural for me to want to be validated and feel accepted, espcially by others. It's strange and incredibly depressing to get used to being seen as ugly and inferior by other black people because I am not lightskin with keen features. Who wants to feel this way? |
when you look in the mirror, do you see an ugly person? No, but now I am starting to. I guess I fooled myself into thinking my features were actually attractive. Now, I see myself how most AAs guys probably see me. Ugly because I am brownskin with west african features |
na BaridBoolan call am ugly ohwhat do you mean stop worrying about it? this affects my life. you tell me that aas think I am ugly and I am supposed to be all right with that ![]() |
yes I am serious. Who wants to be told that they are seen as ugly by their own people? Damn is this supposed to make me feel good about myself. I am s itting here in tears over this |
Stop that nonsense my friend! Who told you that life shld be lived on the basis of what others say? what about women who have never left africa? Have they committed suicide? They are having a great life dear . . . and they dont care what shallow airbrains called AA men have to say.being told that I am ugly because I look west africans BY africans themselves is just the last straw. the point is is that i am IN AMERICA, i am not over in africa. my life is invested here, i have no money to up and move to another country. I have already seen therapy about this and it has no worked. I have attempted suicide once but after reading this post that confirms my inferiority to my own ppl i'd rather be dead than continue to live like this |
No, I've already slit my wrists over this in the past. And sought therapy. It hasn't worked |
Well, I'm going to commit suicide then thank you for telling me this good b ye |
since your question is for AA guys, you may want to talk to your AA brothers Hero and Mandingo so they can give you the 411 on what goes these days.I said they think I look West African. Other posters commented that they think I'm ugly. I'm very confused. Neither is helping my self esteem. |
David, true. AA guys just like face beauty. wether you get K Leg, as far as ya face is fine, they will toast youso I'm ugly to them? |
i think they mean you look ugly. This really hurts |
Bottom line - you're surrounded by shallow guys who want a 'beyonce - like' chick and you don't fit the bill. As a result, you feel 'left out'. Regain your self esteem and move on.I don't know how to do that. IIt's a hard pill to swallow. Is the only way you can be pretty is to look like Beyonce? And I still dont understand the OP's point of view. U think U have a West African look cos U are not light skinned?Apparently. People tell me that. I never knew I looked West African until African Americnas pointed this out to me. |
There are many African American males who look like that too. A lot of them are not heavily mixed. I'm in America btw. |
Tpiah, I would never say he looks West African, just looks like a black male that could be from any part of the world. makybe ure blood isnt as mixed as the other AA's u meet,Perhaps. But why does that make me less African American looking. Not all of them are heavily mixed either. A black or mixed person can be from any part of the world. I just hate that they put me in this box. That man (I think he's a football player right?) in that photo looks like a Nigerian. So you mean to tell me that there aren't any AAs who looks like that? I would never go, "he looks Nigerian". Can someone post a pic of someone who looks African American |
No matter what, there is a look,Can you tell me what makes a Nigerian look different from an African American?? |
Am I getting this right?I am asking myself the same thing, what is an "West African" look. But people tell me that I don't look American and right off the bat they presume I'm not Even on a job interview, the person interviewing me said I looked "AFrican" so I asked him, "what is looking African?" and he said that I looked like the West African women he knew because of my bone structure. I should have asked him what is looking African American. |
In what way?I don't understand why some guys will ask me if I am from Africa or tell me I look African. I didn't even know that I looked different from most African Americans. I am not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing. And if this is working as a disadvantage when it comes to dating within my age group being that young men are very superficial and shallow and influenced by white supremacy |
how old are you is the question i should have asked first?I am 23. They seem to be very hesistant in getting involved with me. I have experienced plenty of AA guys who expressed some interest in me but pull back and then I see them around campus with an African American looking girl (lighter complected) |
AA men will hit on you if they feel you can understand WHERE they are coming from - its just them they cant help but notice a sister and try to make a sister notice themI really don't understand what this means |
van der jo:Well, yes it does bother me. I happen to be African American, and I just LOOK West African (Nigerian, Ghanian), and the young AA crowd seems to be a bit fickle when it comes to me. They don't seem to act that way towards the girls iwth the African American phenotype (whatever that may be). It has caused me to have issues with my self image and self worth |
What do you mean it's a black thing maybe? |
I happen to look very West Afrian, ppl mistake me for women in Nigeria, Ghana, etc. I notice that African american guys are fickle when it comes to me. Does anyone else feel this way? |
I'm sorry but I find this devestating.
