Among the numerous lives touched by Ejiofor’s altruism is the harrowing ordeal of Mr. Sampson Ogochukwu, a man sentenced to death for a crime he insists he did not commit. Ogochukwu’s story is a tragic demonstration of the systemic flaws in Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
In 2017, Ogochukwu left Onitsha, Anambra State, at the behest of a friend, Chuks Viviana Okonkwo, who promised him a job in Lagos. Securing employment as a security guard in Lekki Phase 1, Ogochukwu had no inkling of the betrayal that awaited him. One fateful day, Okonkwo, accompanied by four accomplices, tied Ogochukwu up and coerced him into leading them to his employer’s residence. They proceeded to rob the household, stealing valuables, including a car.
After the robbery, Ogochukwu was forced into the car trunk and later released with N100,000, along with instructions to flee Lagos. Choosing honesty over self-preservation, he returned to his workplace to report the incident, only to be arrested and accused of masterminding the crime.
Despite the eventual arrest of the actual culprits, who reportedly confessed to Ogochukwu’s innocence, the police and court insisted on his complicity. In a tragic twist of fate, the Lagos State High Court discharged the armed robbers but sentenced Ogochukwu to death by hanging on October 31, 2024.
Ogochukwu’s video plea from prison is a heartrending call for justice, highlighting the need for urgent legal intervention to appeal his case.

Businessman Cries Foul, Seeks PSC Help Against Judiciary

Anambra State businessman Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry has appealed to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Abuja, to intervene in an alleged attempt to undermine the judicial process.

The move, he claims, is part of a deliberate effort to free members of an international criminal syndicate that specializes in defrauding unsuspecting businessmen, using Nigerian banks as a platform for their activities.

In a petition filed by his counsel, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor of I.C. Ejiofor & Co., Mr. Henry urged the Chairman of the PSC to use his office to stop a covert operation by some rogue elements within the police force, aimed at illegally withdrawing a pending criminal charge before the Federal High Court, Awka.
The case, identified as Suit No. C/56/2024, involves a syndicate charged with multiple counts of fraud.

According to the charge sheet referenced by our reporter, the accused individuals—Onyia Ifeanyi Eucharist, Johnson Ogbonna, and others still at large, including one Innocent Kingsley Ogbonna—conspired to commit felony by obtaining money under false pretenses.

The charges include:
Between December 2021 and January 2022, at the Electrical Parts Market in Obosi, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, the accused fraudulently obtained $57,000 from Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry

Between December 14 and 20, 2021, they again defrauded Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry, obtaining an additional $57,000.

In January 2022, they fraudulently obtained $65,000 from one Ejike Justice Chukwudi.

In January 2022, they also defrauded one Naji Okechukwu Matthew of $30,000 at the same location.
Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry has stated that Onyia Ifeanyi Eucharist, the alleged ringleader, is a former EcoBank staff who exploited his position to defraud him of millions of Naira.
According to him, he was led to believe that the bank would facilitate his international transactions by providing him with the necessary foreign exchange to make payments for goods and services imported from China. However, Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry alleges that the trio of Onyia Ifeanyi Eucharist, Johnson Ogbonna, and Kaycee Ogbonna conspired to embezzle his hard-earned resources.

He stated that it took the swift intervention of a crack team of police officers from the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters to uncover and apprehend the syndicate members. However, Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry claims that as the case progressed smoothly in the Federal High Court, Awka, the culprits, boasting of their powerful connections in Abuja, threatened to use their influence to sabotage the case and they have succeeded in having a strange signal issued by the police high command in Abuja, aimed at terminating the charges against them and withdrawing the case pending before a court of competent jurisdiction—the Federal High Court, Awka.

The petition, which awaits action from the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, was filed on behalf of Mr. Eches Chinedu Henry by I.C. Ejiofor & Co., his legal counsel.

Human Rights Lawyer Ejiofor Loses Foster Father at 73

Human rights lawyer and social crusader Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has lost his foster father, Chief David Onuorah Maduneme (Odanike Anam/Odogwu na Akpa Alo Anam). Maduneme passed away on November 3, 2024, at the age of 73, after a brief illness.

Chief David Onuorah Maduneme, a former Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor on Security, hailed from Umuoba Nnam in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a statement on Friday, Sir Ejiofor described the late Maduneme as both his hero and benefactor. According to Ejiofor, Chief Maduneme was not just a foster father but "everything" to him.
"I mean, he was everything to me in every sense of it. I am deeply broken by his tragic death," Ejiofor stated.

He went on to highlight Maduneme’s commitment to justice, describing him as a man who lived a life of courage, always standing fearlessly in defense of truth and justice, and never faltering in the face of adversity.

"My eternal hero has departed this world to join our ancestors in the beyond. Though one day we shall meet again at the final judgment, I can hardly bear the thought of your absence. Farewell, Odogwu Na Akpa-alo Nke Mbu Na Anam – the unshakable warrior, the resilient protector. The mighty iroko has indeed fallen, and the heavens have cloaked themselves in mourning.
I am struggling to comprehend that you are truly gone, Odanike. How could it happen? You, who lived a life on the battlefield, standing fearlessly in defense of truth and justice. You didn’t fall in the heat of combat, nor were you struck down by an enemy’s hand; instead, you passed away peacefully. A celebrated crime fighter across the Southeast and the nation, you devoted yourself to dismantling the forces of darkness. Anambra Community Sounds Alarm Over Anti-Cult Police Actions, Files Petitions with PCN

Residents of the Golden Estate Landlord Association in Oba, Idemmili South Local Government Area, have petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 13, Ukpo, Anambra State, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, National Headquarters Abuja, regarding the nefarious activities of the Anti-Cult Police Unit in Obosi, Anambra State.

The letters, dated October 25 and October 29, 2024, were written on their behalf by their solicitors, the Law Firm of I.C. Ejiofor & Co., and duly signed by the Chief Counsel and principal partner of the firm, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Esq.

The Association is seeking the immediate intervention of the Police High Command to address the excesses of the Anti-Cult Unit, which has been accused of tormenting residents by breaking into their homes at ungodly hours, abducting individuals, and extorting money.
They allege that the Anti-Cult Unit forcibly enters homes at night, abducts their targets, and drives them to a nearby location to extort them before releasing them shortly thereafter.

Residents claim that the Anti-Cult Unit has turned their peaceful community into an ATM cash-and-carry point, where they periodically visit to abduct and extort. The petitions await further action from the Police High Command, leaving residents to sleep with one eye open.

In his PDP State Chairman Campaign Manifesto, Chidebe states he is seeking the chairmanship position to restore Anambra State PDP, which has faced setbacks over the years.

"I present to you my well-thought-out vision to revive and strengthen our dear party in the state. It is widely acknowledged that our great party, the PDP, has faced substantial challenges in recent years. Among these is the painful loss of nearly all elective positions we once held due to internal divisions, conflicts, and a lack of cohesive strategy. This setback has diminished our ability to effectively represent the interests of our people across Anambra State. However, this moment of difficulty presents an opportunity for renewal. Now, more than ever, we need a fresh, strategic approach to rebuild our party's unity, restore the confidence of both our members and the electorate, and position ourselves for victory in the upcoming elections," he stated.

He emphasized that a strong PDP taking over Anambra State requires decisive, visionary leadership committed to bringing people together, resolving conflicts, and focusing on the future.

The World Peace Advocate has commended Dr. Isoken Ibie, CEO of ISK Production and ISK Consulting, for earning a doctorate degree in Philosophy and Human Advocacy.

Dr. Ibie recently received her doctorate from the College of Chaplaincy and Social Sciences, Nigeria, an affiliate of African American University, Porto-Novo, accredited by the American Council of Training & Development.

In her congratulatory message, Hon. Chinyere Onwudiwe, chairperson of the World Peace Advocate, expressed pride in honoring Dr. Ibie for her extraordinary leadership in human advocacy and community service. We Don't Torture,Ocha Brigade Tells Fake Beverage Factory Owner In Onitsha




Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, Ocha Brigade, and the presidential task force on economic sabotage have denied torturing anyone among those arrested for allegedly manufacturing fake beverages in Onitsha, Anambra State. The coordinator of the presidential task force on economic sabotage for the Anambra state chapter, Hon. Collins Enebeli, stated that none of those arrested were beaten or tortured by anyone. He also noted that after the arrests, they were handed over to the police along with the confiscated drinks.

The seven arrested individuals raised alarm about torture and detention at Ocha Brigade on Thursday after being released by the Anambra State Police Command. They claimed that they were rescued by the police in Anambra State.

In their allegations, they stated they were illegally arrested and tortured by Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, while in its detention facility for days over accusations of dealing in fake products. They stated that the factory is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and has approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). They also mentioned that the seven individuals who were released have been hospitalized due to the torture inflicted upon them at the Ocha Brigade detention facility.

The director of AliBan De Great Industries, a beverage factory in Nkpor, Onitsha Mr. Ali Barnabas, described the arrests as an invasion of his factory and the abduction of his workers by Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra.
He explained, "I have many products registered with NAFDAC and CAC. On October 7, the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) stormed my factory, ransacked it, and took five of my workers along with a vehicle, releasing them with the vehicle the same day."

"On October 10, over 50 masked Ocha Brigade personnel, along with three SPACS members, again stormed my factory, broke through the iron protection, removed over 2,000 cartons of finished products, damaged the CCTV camera, and took my laptop, among other items. They detained nine of my workers, but when one complained of being pregnant, two were released and seven were held at the Ocha Brigade detention facility. Days later, they were taken to the State CID Awka, where I met with the DCP. After listening to my defense and conducting a discrete investigation, he asked me to write a statement, which I did, and my staff were released," he said.

According to him, the factory that Ocha Brigade sealed has not conducted any business for seven consecutive days now.
"The DCP expressed surprise that Ocha Brigade would storm my factory and seal it when I have both NAFDAC and CAC documents. He immediately ordered that those seven be released. Interestingly, I presented my latest NAFDAC renewal approval to the DCP," he stated.

Reacting, the Managing Director (MD) of Ocha Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, said their goal is to clean Anambra State from unhealthy practices. According to him, the law mandates the agency to maintain cleanliness in the state and enforce measures against anything that poses health risks.

He stated that the federal agency took them to a factory where they discovered the environment for beverage production was dirty and unsuitable for human consumption.
"When we found the filthy conditions and crude methods of manufacturing beverages, we had to seal and confiscate the suspected fake drinks and hand them over to the police. Our mission is to protect Ndi Anambra and residents from unwholesome practices," he said.

Anere denied claims of torture and unlawful detention at the Ocha Brigade facility.
"After the arrest and confiscation of the drinks, we transferred the matter to the State CID and handed over the suspects and the fake drinks to them. You can verify this with the DC of State CID," he stated.

The Anambra State Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID), DCP Akin Fakorede, confirmed that the suspects were transferred to their station. When asked whether the police actually rescued them, he responded, "Were they kidnapped in the first place? There was no need for rescue."
He clarified that they were transfered and the police had taken them to the station, and they were not rescued because they were never kidnapped.

Fakorede noted that the police released the suspects because they had exceeded the required detention time, and the investigation is ongoing. He added that the police have contacted NAFDAC for a proper investigation into the drinks and are still awaiting a reply.

Speaking on the matter, the Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Sabotage in Anambra State, Hon. Collins Enebeli, stated that their whistleblowers provided information about the factory, leading them to contact the Ocha Brigade as statutory agency for such enforcement in the state.

According to Enebeli, when they arrived, they found that the factory was producing six different drinks in an unsanitary environment.
"We discovered that these drinks were made in filthy conditions. They were pouring mixtures into dirty containers like buckets and gallons, mixing some ingredients, and bottling them by hand," he said.

Regarding NAFDAC approval, he questioned, "Which NAFDAC would approve such an environment for beverage production?"

He emphasized that they captured evidence on video, showing workers washing bottles by hand and mixing concoctions without machinery. They claimed that their machines were broken and they had to resort to manual production due to an emergency order. He stated that they confiscated the drinks and brought them to the police station in Awka.

"We did not beat anyone or torture anyone; neither did Ocha Brigade. I even released one pregnant woman and another who was menstruating," he added.

Regarding their next steps, Enebeli said they plan to send the confiscated drinks to NAFDAC to determine if the agency granted approval for production in such unhygienic conditions. He also called for NAFDAC to shut down the factory due to its detrimental impact on public health.

Arming FRSC: Recipe for Road Violence - Human Rights Lawyer


An Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi C. Ejiofor, has condemned and called for the rejection of the proposed bill to arm members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria.
Ejiofor, in a statement on Wednesday, said the bill, which seeks to turn a civilian agency entrusted with traffic management into an armed force, poses a serious risk to public safety.
According to him, if the bill is passed, it would escalate violence on Nigerian roads.
Ejiofor stated that the majority of FRSC members have turned their various checkpoints across the states into mobile ATM machines, Oftentimes, non-compliance with their illegitimate demands for citizens' hard-earned money at these checkpoints leads to untimely deaths.
He stated that allowing the FRSC to carry guns would only increase the likelihood of such tragic incidents.
The statement reads:
"The proposed bill to arm the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is deeply troubling and should be rejected. This attempt to turn a civilian agency responsible for traffic management into an armed force poses a serious risk to public safety and threatens to escalate violence on our roads.
We have already witnessed the tragic consequences of armed officials misusing their power. Instances of trigger-happy law enforcement officers have marred the nation’s peace, leading to the needless loss of innocent lives. The majority of them have turned their various checkpoints across the states into mobile ATM machines. Oftentimes, non-compliance with their illegitimate demands for citizens' hard-earned money at these checkpoints results in untimely deaths. Allowing the FRSC to carry guns will only increase the likelihood of such tragic incidents.
We also need to consider the psychological impact of arming road safety officials. The main duties of the FRSC, as clearly defined under the law establishing the agency, are to guide, educate, and enforce traffic regulations in a calm and orderly manner—not to incite fear or foster an environment of intimidation. When we raise the possibility of violence on our highways, how can we claim to be protecting public safety?
Instead of arming the FRSC, the agency should invest in contemporary technology, improved training, and coordination with security agencies to address the underlying causes of insecurity. I urge all well-meaning citizens to reject this bill in its entirety. The focus should be to ensure our roads remain a place of safety, not a battlefield.
It is imperative that lawmakers and other elected leaders concentrate on the pressing issues afflicting the country."

Anambra Journalist Calls for Revamped Juvenile Prisons

Ambassador Karen James, a prominent investigative journalist and world peace advocate, has called on the Nigerian government to establish juvenile prisons across all states to better protect and rehabilitate young offenders.
Speaking at a recent event focused on youth empowerment and justice reform, Ambassador James highlighted the urgent need for specialized facilities that can provide a safe environment for children involved in criminal activities.

“These juvenile prisons should serve not only as correctional facilities but as centers for learning, skill development, and psychological support,” she stated. She emphasized that many young offenders are products of difficult socio-economic circumstances, and without proper interventions, they risk becoming entrenched in a cycle of crime.

Ambassador James stressed that current practices often place young offenders in adult prisons, where they face harsher treatment and are deprived of opportunities for meaningful rehabilitation. Developing juvenile-specific correctional centers, according to her, would offer these children a second chance to reform and reintegrate into society with new skills and a sense of purpose.

In her appeal, Ambassador James called for immediate action from both the government and the private sector to fund and prioritize juvenile justice reform, noting that the future of Nigeria's youth depends on the provision of safe, supportive environments where they can learn, grow, and leave behind a life of crime.

The Founder of the Umuada Di Igbo Mma Worldwide Inc, London, Mrs. Helen Duruhesie eulogized the leadership qualities of Senator Ekwunife whom she described as a humanitarian Ambassador.
She said the decision to honour the two term Senator was informed by her sterling performance both in human capital development and all round achievements in private and public sectors.

Senator Uche Ekwunife hails from Igbo-Ukwu in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. She had her primary and secondary education in Onitsha, where she laid the foundation for her future academic pursuits.
In 1992, she earned a Bachelor of Science, (Bsc) degree in Business Education and Accounting from the University of Calabar. Her academic pursuits continued with a Post Graduate Diploma, (PGD) in Business Administration in 2001, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2003 from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Her academic excellence culminated in a milestone attainment of a PhD in Public Administration from Atlantic International University (AIU), Hawaii, USA, in 2021.

Senator Ekwunife's illustrious career began in the banking industry, where she achieved remarkable accomplishments and a rapid ascent. As a Branch Manager at the defunct Standard Trust Bank, she demonstrated exceptional leadership and a tireless work ethic, which earned her successive promotions to Area Manager and ultimately, Head of the Private Banking Unit at the prestigious United Bank for Africa (UBA), following the merger of Standard Trust Bank with UBA. Her extraordinary achievements and dedication to excellence were formally recognized when she was awarded the coveted title of 'Young Banker of the Year' in 2003, a testament to her outstanding contributions to the banking profession.

In 2007, Senator Ekwunife was elected to the Federal House of Representatives, serving for two terms till 2015. During her tenure, she held various leadership positions including Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Deputy Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts, Leader Anambra State Caucus House of Representatives and Leader All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Anambra State Caucus House of Representatives.

Due to her exceptional and quality representation of her constituents in the House of Representatives, in June 2015, she was elected into the Nigerian Senate as Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, a position she held until she was ultimately removed by an unfavorable court judgment in November 2015. During this brief period in the Senate, Senator Ekwunife was appointed as Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream, becoming the first woman and first in Southeast to occupy this position. She was also a member of several Ad-Hoc Committees in the 8th Senate, including Committee on Legislative Agenda, Committee on Works, Committee on Rules and Business and Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

In 2019, Senator Uche Ekwunife was re-elected into the 9th Senate as Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District with a more overwhelming electoral victory margin than in 2015. In a feat that had never before been accomplished in Anambra Central, Senator Ekwunife won the election in all 7 local government areas of Anambra Central in what is now referred to as a “7 over 7” victory.

In the 9th Assembly of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ekwunife Chaired the Senate Committee on Science and Technology and was a member of several other committees like; Public Procurement, Airforce, Upstream Petroleum, Public Account, Ethics and Privileges, Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Finance, Senate Services, Special Duties, Police Affairs, Youth and Sports Development, Women Affairs, Ad-Hoc Committee on 1999 Constitution Review, and Ad-Hoc Committee on NDDC.

She was adjudged the best Chairman Committee on Science and Technology, having made National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) that has been in establishment for 33 years to have first line charge of their money from the federation account within 6 months of chairing the committee. She attracted three federal Agencies representing South East to Anambra State.

Ekwunife still holds the record of the best Legislator Anambra State ever produced both at the House of Representatives and Senate. She was the first lawmaker to construct roads within her constituency. She constructed roads in all the communities within Anambra Central and even beyond. She built hospitals, schools and equipped them with modern medical and educational facilities. She also facilitated over 800 federal employment opportunities and attracted many other vital federal projects, significantly impacting her constituents’ lives.

Ekwunife ran for the position of Governor of Anambra State twice in 2013 and 2022 and came first runner-up in the two encounters at the primaries.

She is President of three Non Governmental Organisations, NGOs. Through her Greenlife, Emmanuel Ogudebe Foundation and Senator Uche Ekwunife (SUE) Foundation, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and philanthropy. She has empowered over 10,000 people through her scholarship and welfare schemes since 1999, before her foray into politics. She has also built over 35 houses for less privileged women, youths, and the downtrodden in her constituency. Through her NGO, Senator Ekwunife constructed and equipped a state of art Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Apart from being a politician, Senator Ekwunife is also an entrepreneur of international standard. She founded Treasure furniture and Crescent Clothing, with speciality in making school furniture and school uniforms among others.

Senator Uche Ekwunife's exceptional leadership has garnered impressive recognition. She received the prestigious Commander of the Order of Niger (CON) from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. The Sun Newspaper honored her as Humanitarian Service Icon of the Year in 2022. Additionally, she was recognized as the highest individual sponsor of pilgrims in Anambra State by the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission in 2015. She also holds an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from the Institute of Journalism, Management, and Continuing Education, Enugu.

Ekwunife is a member of various professional bodies, including Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Nigerian Institute of Management, (NIM). She also served as a Board Member, Nigeria Firm Corporation and a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

Also in recognition of her selfless service and dedication to better the lots of Ndi Anambra, Ekwunife was conferred with over 41 chieftaincy titles from various communities within and outside Anambra Central Senatorial zone including: Ada-Ugo Igbo (Igbo-ukwu), Anyanwu-Nri (Nri-Kingdom), Anyanwu (Aguluzigbo) and Nnedioramma (Aguata). Others include: Ifekaolaedo (Ukpo), Udala-Oma (Enugwu-Agidi) Ifeomachukwumelu Ndi Anaocha by all the communities in Anaocha Local government area, Akaekpuchi-Onwa (Neni) among others. She broke the traditional record to become the first woman ever to be elected into the prestigious Ndi-alo Eze Nri, the respected Advisers to the sacred throne of Eze Nri Ancient Kingdom.

Currently, Senator Ekwunife serves as the Director General of the Southeast Governors' Forum.

Aside her scintillating profile both in politics and private sector, Senator Ekwunife is down to earth as a mother and wife. She is still a woman who practices her call to serve her family, going about her normal duties as a house wife without abdicating her responsibilities to her family.

Anambra:Victim Raises Alarm Over Plan To Dump Corpse In Ancestral Land


The youth leader of Ezinano community in Awka of Anambra state, Mr Tochukwu Nwokoye has narrated his ordeal in the hands of officer incharge of Rapid Response Sqaud, Awkuzu in Oyi local government council of the state,Supol Ifeanyi Iburu.
Nwokoye, who spoke with our correspondent on Sunday in the hospital where he was taking treatment, said his experience in the hands of Iburu was not only terrifying but horrible.
He said that they were in their ancestral land at Ezinano and suddenly ,a team of police men led by Supol Ifeanyi Iburu stormed the place, shooting sporadically,ordering them to lie down or be shot dead.
According to him,he has not met Iburu before and does not know him, he wondered why he stormed their Ancestral land in a commando style forcing them to lie down or be killed.

" We were at our land at Ezinano on first of September 2024. We have plotted the land , fenced it ,even our women have planted cassava there. When we went there, we discovered that some people came with excavators and were destroying our crops, removing beacons.
" We sent our Youth Secretary to B division, in Awka ,to make entry along with the ladies who planted cassava there. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of B.division sent two policemen to know what was happening, before then we had stopped those people with excavator from destroying our crops and removing our beacons.
" As we were there, suddenly,we saw some people with guns shooting and asking us to lie down or risk being killed. We obeyed and they are about 15 in number. As the Youths leader,I asked them what was the problem, instead, they started beating me.
" One of the B Division officers sent by their DPO told them they are there to investigate the problem,they resorted beating him, describing him as one of the accomplice of criminalities in the town. At that time the youths with me wanted to be angry, I calmed them down.
" They asked me why did we come to the land and I told them that it is our land. Immediately,they started videoing us and the land. They did not tell us the problem or who sent them.
" They took me away to RRS headquarters at Awkuzu and after reaching Ukpor- Abba junction, Iburu started calling one Peter that he should bring out AK from the armoury. When I asked him,what is happening,he threatened to kill me if I did not take my time. He said we have been killing people and burying them in that land, thinking that nobody knows. He told me that if they could not trace any grave there,they will kill one person and bury him there, and we will answer the question.
" When we got to Awkuzu RRS Station,they brought out one AK 47 rifle, tried to hang it on my neck,I resisted it and they started beating me again and forcefully hung the gun on my neck and took pictures of me with the gun.
" After that, he ordered that I be sent to cell five, meanwhile,he had not taken any statement from me. As I got inside the cell,I saw about seven malnourished persons and they told me for three months they have not eaten. Not up 30 minutes, one died and they took him away. At about 6.30 to 8 pm they called my name that I should wear my clothes. I worn my clothes,they started threatening to kill me again and I asked again , what is the problem? He said that we have been killing people and burying them in that land. He said that if they could not find any one ,they will bury one for us and show the AK47 he found with me.
" I never knew we were heading to the office of the State Commissioner of police and when we got there,the CP asked him whether he recovered the AK47 from me, he said no. He asked him again, whether he snapped me picture with AK, he said no,then, the CP directed he should go and release me.
The CP asked me to call my people for bail and I told him that they collected my phone. Then, Supol Iburu ordered one of his boys to give me my phone. I also told the CP that I had N350,000 in my car which I collected from UBA and I couldn't find it.
When we left the CP office to Awkuzu, they started beating me again. I told him what they were doing was not right and if they killed me, the Commissioner is already aware about my whereabout and my people too. He started shouting on me , calling one of his boys to go and find out where there is a dead body and plant at the land so that they will make case with my people. I told him that, 'Thank God you have told CP you did not recover any gun from me. I also told him that I don't have any criminal matter or record before any authority, then, they resumed the beating.
When we got to Awkuzu Station,they released me and since then,I have been visiting hospital, treating my self, " he said.
Nwokoye also stated that he was having fears that those who really want to destroy him might have something else more sinister about him.
" I hope they are watching my movement and that they might likely set me up or kill me carelessly. Honestly,I don't know where the problem is coming from,but I knew we have land issue with some people before a high Court and I feel,if the people have any allegation they should come to the court and prove their case rather resorting to self help.
" I will also advise, that Iburu do his police work accordingly and stop meddling into land matter" he added.
Nwokoye said that Supol Ifeanyi Iburu cannot be taking laws into his , noting that there are areas he should avoid as permitted by the Constitution.
Also speaking on the matter,one Community leader from Ezinano, High Chief sir Arinze Ekelem described Nwokoye as s patriotic son of Ezinano community.
According to him, Nwokoye loves his people and his people love him too, noting that whatever concern his people, concerns him.
He said that he was surprised when he learnt that awkuzu RRS arrested, detained and tortured him.

Soludo: APC Fears Loss in LGA Elections, Struggles to Exist in Anamba

Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Soludo has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is afraid of losing elections, which is why they did not present any candidates.

Soludo made this declaration during the flag-off of the party's local government council elections campaign in Awka, the state capital, on Saturday.

According to him, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) faces no opposition in the state, noting that other parties are not genuinely contesting, as the few that fielded candidates are not campaigning effectively.

"APC does not exist in Anambra State; they could not field any candidate because they are afraid. Despite their calls for local government elections, they did not put forward a single candidate. Now that the elections are approaching, they have run away because they know they cannot win a ward in the state. As for LP, it is disintegrated and cannot validly contest in this election," he stated

He also stated that the Labour Party (LP) managed to field six chairmanship candidates and six councilorship candidates but described the party as disorganized.
"LP is a disintegrated party that cannot win any wards in the state," he stated.

He declared that APGA is fully prepared to capture all 21 local government council chairmanship and 326 ward councilor seats in the upcoming local government elections next Saturday.

According to him, APGA faces no opposition in the state, and the other parties are not genuinely contesting since the few that fielded candidates are not campaigning effectively.

"APGA is Anambra, and Anambra is APGA," he said, asserting that the party will win all seats from local government chairmen to councilors. The governor emphasized that APGA is the only party that has fielded candidates for all positions, while other parties are afraid of failure and thus did not field candidates.

Soludo mentioned that APGA has already been returned in four local government councils unopposed due to the inability of the opposition to field candidates.

He reiterated that the APC is also afraid of losing elections, which is why they did not present any candidates.

He urged the people of Anambra to come out on Saturday and vote for APGA, noting that results would be announced by 3 PM.

During the mega rally, the embattled national chairman of the party, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, urged party faithful to vote massively for APGA. He claimed that those opposing the party are primarily interested in misappropriating state funds for personal gains rather than serving the people. Ezeokenwa commended Governor Soludo for using state funds wisely and urged the public to support his transformative agenda.

He also stated that the state APGA has achieved "21 over 21" and is winning all 326 councilor positions in the state.

The former national chairman of the party, Ozo Victor Oye, echoed that there is no other party in Anambra State apart from APGA. He warned that anyone attempting to block the party from winning all the seats would face consequences.

The former House member representing Anambra East and West in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, affirmed that the party is united and is entering the election with a unified force. "We are the ones who helped former Governor Chief Willy Obiano win 21 over 21, and we are still with the party and Prof. Charles Soludo. Those claiming that the people who worked for Obiano are not with Soludo are not telling the truth. We are united and actively supporting Soludo," he added.

Land: Ezza Nkomoro Abusing of Prof Nnaji’s Magnanimity

The media everywhere in the world fight for the less privileged. However, some crafty individuals and groups often attempt to manipulate this media leaning by framing themselves as victims even when they are the aggressors.
This is the case with a faction of squatters in Onuogba Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State who are claiming the ownership of a parcel of the land in the Onuogba Community belonging to Professor Bart Nnaji, a former Minister of Power. They have been moving from one media house to another portraying themselves as hapless victims while projecting Professor Nnaji as a man of means confiscating their land. They have even held a press conference where they claimed Onuogba Nike as their ancestral homeland.
How this community can claim Onuogba Nike to be their ancestral home is a puzzle because they proudly acknowledged that they started coming to Onuogba only in 1958 as mercenaries in an inter-village fight. They hail from the Ezza Nkomoro community in Ezza Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, and some of them arrived in Onuagba as recently as this year. In other words, they do not mince words that the Nkomoro community in Ebonyi State is their ancestral land. To state the obvious, the land in question originally belonged to the Onuogba people of Nike who are part of the Nkanu sub Igbo ethnic group in Enugu State. It is unfair to the history of the Nkanu people for a faction of the Ezza Nkomoro squatters to claim the land.
The Onuogba leaders and people have on several occasions made it abundantly clear that they never gave the parcel of land belonging to Prof Nnaji which is in the Ndume part of their community to the Ezza Nkomoro mercenaries as compensation for fighting for them. The Onuogba people rather gave them land in Ogbanu to farm and pay rent to them, as testified by Chief Emmanuel Ubochi, President General of the Onuogba Community, at a news conference in Enugu on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The parcel of land belonging to Nnaji was sold to him in 2005 by the late Chief Hyacinth Alinta, a well-known entrepreneur, who acquired it from the original owners in 1977. It was a legitimate transaction. The C of O was issued to Chief Alinta by the old Anambra State Government and given Number EN/SDR/NW/464/87/ANS. Chief Alinta subsequently passed on the C of O to Prof Nnaji in 2005 when he paid for the land.
Though the globally famous engineering professor acquired the land to start building an auto parts manufacturing firm, he allowed the Ezza Nkomoro squatters some years to prepare to relocate purely on compassionate grounds. A few years ago when Nnaji decided to develop the place, the squatters approached Bishop Callistus Onaga of the Enugu Catholic Diocese to request Prof Nnaji, a devout Catholic, to give them a little more time. Nnaji accepted the bishop’s plea. He even pledged up to N1million each to assist some of the squatters. Bishop Onaga and the Parish Priest of the Catholic Church in Onuogba asked them to register with them for financial assistance, but they spurned the gesture.
The squatters instead chose to build all manner of structures there to create the impression that they have sucessfully seized the land. They put up the structures without any Certificate of Occupancy because Prof Nnaji is the person with the C of O. They erected structures without any building plans approved by the Enugu East LG because they know it is impossible to get such approvals. They are squatters. That’s why they lost to the Chief Alinta family in the judgment delivered on January 21, 2013, by Mr. Justice E. N. Oluedo of the Enugu State High Court. That’s why the courts have bluntly refused to give them a stay of execution as they requested but instead asked the landowner to execute the judgment.
It is self-evident that these squatters have been abusing Prof Nnaji’s patience and generosity. It is provocative for them to brand the landowner a landgrabber whereas they are the real landgrabbers. It is provocative for them to go on a relentless calumny campaign in the media against the landowner, and it is disingenuous for them to portray themselves as Nigeria’s David and Nnaji as Goliath. It is provocative to the Onuogba people who are their hosts for Ezza Nkomoro elements to declare the Onuogba community their ancestral land. It is reckless to claim the ownership of any piece of land in the 21st century without any evidence whatsoever. It is primitive to threaten the owner of any asset with tremendous violence when he seeks to develop his property.
Despite these provocative acts, we appeal to Prof Nnaji to consider the request by a faction of Ezza Nkomoro squatters to sell a portion of the parcel of land to them purely on compassionate grounds. We appeal to him to consider selling to them at below-the-going market rates in recognition of Nigeria’s economic stress which affects everyone. And in view of the economic hardship, we also encourage him to allow staggered payment. We believe that Prof Nnaji’s acceptance of our appeal will result in a win-win for every party. This will be the beginning of the healing process needed in the Onuogba community of Nike.

1st Bank,BOI join AITE to Promote Nigerian Non-oil Exports in USA

First Bank, Nigeria’s oldest bank, and the Bank of Industry (BOI) are expected to participate in the 2024 Africa International Investment Summit and Trade Exhibition (AITE) scheduled to be held this month in New York and Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America.
The two major financial institutions will play a prominent role as lead sponsors from Nigeria.
This revelation was made by Tunde MacAlabi, the AITE chairman, in a statement he personally signed on Monday in Lagos.
“We are pleased to announce that these key financial institutions are participating fully as major promoters of this year’s show that seeks to promote non-oil exports from Nigeria. Given the critical need to broaden our economic base and diversify our foreign exchange sources, it is essential that the nation and all its people and organizations focus on non-petroleum exports,” MacAlabi stated.
Among other organizations that had earlier confirmed support for the 2024 AITE are Air Peace, Nigeria’s leading airline; Businessday, the country’s foremost business newspaper; the Asmiol Group of the United States; and the Cruxstone Property Group of Nigeria.
The 2024 AITE is being organized in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment; the United States-Nigeria Export and Investment Group; the FAMES Foundation of Atlanta; as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“While the 2023 edition, held on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York, was hugely successful and attended by the Minister, this year’s event is set to be bigger and more successful. That’s why it is being held in two key American cities, rather than one, as was the case last year,” he said.
MacAlabi disclosed that the focus of the 2024 exhibition will be on small and medium-sized businesses.
“This is because these businesses, which unfortunately do not receive adequate official attention, account for up to 85% of employment in Africa.
“Nigeria and other African nations cannot continue along this development trajectory without serious repercussions. It is, therefore, appropriate that we are focusing on these businesses, which have been neglected for too long despite their immense role in development,” MacAlabi said.
MacAlabi explained that with the appropriate attention to small and medium-sized businesses, Nigeria can become a trillion-dollar economy by 2025, as envisioned by President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
AITE is a public-private sector initiative organized as a follow-up to the annual US-African Leaders Summit to foster commercial engagement between the United States and the African region.

Squatters cannot claim ownership of land,says Prof. Nnaji

Chairman of Geometric Power Group, Prof. Barth Nnaji has stated that land in Onuogba Nike, Enugu State, belongs to him and not the squatters.
Nnaji, who was formerly the Minister of Power, said those who addressed the media in Enugu regarding the land was sensational by describing him as a land grabbing in the area.
He claimed that the squatters occupying a piece of land in Onuogba Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, media briefing were part of a campaign against him.
In a statement issued by his Media Assistant, Chijioke Ogbodo, Prof. Nnaji said it was very ridiculous to describe a landowner as a land grabber.
According to him, a section of the media published the squatters' claims, but most media outlets chose not to cover the conference because they recognized the claims as baseless, false, misleading, and immoral. He asserted that the squatters were, in fact, the land grabbers.
The statement reads in part:
"None of the few media that published the dubious claims of these land grabbers bothered to speak to Professor Nnaji, thereby violating a basic principle of journalism and natural justice: always hear both parties in a dispute before reporting it. They also did not contact the Catholic Bishop of the Enugu Diocese, The Most Reverend Dr. Callistus Onaga, DD, who was mentioned multiple times at the press conference. If they had attempted to speak to His Lordship, who intervened in the matter purely on humanitarian grounds, they would have obtained the true and correct picture.
The landowner is Professor Nnaji, not the squatters. When Prof. Nnaji returned from the USA to establish an auto parts manufacturing industry and independent power project in Enugu State in partnership with his South Korean partners, he purchased the land in 2005 from Chief Hyacinth Alinta, the owner who held the Certificate of Occupancy. The late Chief Hyacinth Alinta, a respected businessman and proud son of Enugu State, had acquired the land much earlier from the original owners in Onuogba community.
When Prof. Nnaji wanted to clear the land and start the project after the purchase, some individuals who had recently migrated from Ezza Nkomoro in Ebonyi State to the Onuogba Nike community and were squatting on the land became violent. Consequently, he suspended the project until the court case he inherited from Chief Alinta regarding the squatters’ presence and land ownership was resolved in favor of the Alinta family.
After the court judgment, Prof. Nnaji attempted to restart his project in 2013. However, due to the intervention of the Catholic Bishop of the Enugu Diocese, The Most Reverend Dr. Callistus Onaga, DD, Prof. Nnaji paused his plans to restart the project on humanitarian grounds, allowing the squatters to indicate through the Church or their leaders their interest in either purchasing the land and remaining on it or vacating it peacefully. None took advantage of this offer for over eleven years.
Over the years, the squatters resorted to threatening the landowner’s workers, culminating in the 2023 murder of Mr. Sunday Ozoemena, a contractor hired to construct the perimeter fence around the area. Mr. Ozoemena had been advising his kinsmen against their obstinacy and violent actions. His murder is still under police investigation.
These developments have not deterred Prof. Nnaji or Bishop Onaga from showing patience and compassion towards the squatters, especially when some of them revealed to their Parish Priest that they had been misled and defrauded by some members who had "sold" the land to them.
With Bishop Onaga’s intervention, the squatters were given until August 10, 2024, to register their acceptance of Prof. Nnaji’s offer to pay for the land. Out of sheer magnanimity, Prof. Nnaji even informed the Bishop that he would provide a grant of up to N1 million to any squatters who had to move out. To simplify the process, the squatters were also asked to register with their Parish Priest in Onuogba, who had contacted Prof. Nnaji on their behalf. Interestingly, no one took this offer until the eviction exercise began two days ago. Instead, they insisted, without evidence, that the land is theirs, and the youths were threatening everyone with extreme violence in the guise of being ESN members.
The fact remains that the squatters have never had any documents to support their ownership claim. The judiciary ruled on the land ownership in January 2013, and the squatters lost, as expected. Their claim that the land is their ancestral home is false, as they recently migrated from Ezza Nkomoro in Ebonyi State to the Onuogba Nike community.
There must be a limit to impunity and blackmail. The squatters have taken undue advantage of Professor Nnaji’s magnanimity and concern for others. However, their continued stay on his property with impunity has delayed his project and the development of the land. After over eleven years of waiting for the squatters to do the right thing, Professor Nnaji has finally given up on them and taken all necessary legal and moral steps to reclaim his property and develop the project.
We understand from key members of the group in Onuogba that the campaign against Prof. Nnaji is being sponsored by some individuals who had fraudulently sold Prof. Nnaji’s land to them. The Catholic Parish Priest in Onuogba, who has been intervening on their behalf, can be contacted for independent verification of the facts stated in this statement."

We are not participating in Anambra LGA elections, says LP


The Anambra State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has disassociated itself from participating in the state local government council elections scheduled for September 28, 2024.
In a statement jointly signed by Hon. Chinwuba Chidi, Chairman of Labour Party, Anambra East Local Government Council, and Hon. Aghadiuno Onyeka, Secretary of the Labour Party, Anambra East LGA, the general public is urged to disregard the list published by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) that includes names purportedly representing the Labour Party in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The party clarified that the list did not originate from them as they have neither conducted any primaries to nominate candidates nor submitted any names to the Commission.
They have called on the Commission to delist the names; otherwise, legal action will be pursued.
The statement reads:
"Labour Party Anambra East Local Government Area Chapter wishes to disassociate itself from participating in the September 28, 2024, Local Government election in Anambra State.
The Labour Party Anambra State, through its rightful leadership, has issued a statement that we, as a party, are not participating in the forthcoming Local Government election in Anambra State.
The general public is hereby informed to disregard the list published by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) as the names attached to the Labour Party in Anambra East Local Government Area do not originate from us. We have neither conducted any primaries to nominate anyone nor submitted any names to the Commission.
Anyone dealing with these individuals does so at their own risk, as the Labour Party Anambra East LGA will not be held liable for any occurrences.
We are calling on ANSIEC to remove the Labour Party's name from the poll. Failure to do so will compel us to take legal action against the Commission. This action by ANSIEC suggests a desperation to involve parties in an already compromised election. Those responsible for this are mischief-makers seeking to deceive the innocent and law-abiding citizens of Anambra East LGA and Anambra State.

The people of Eastern Nigeria have called on the Federal Government to immediately investigate a Nigerian based in Austria, Mr. Kingsley, for calling for the poisoning of Igbo children wherever they are.
The lead counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, in a statement said it is regrettable that the Nigerian government quickly reached out to the Canadian government to investigate the outburst of Amaka Patience Sunnberger for reacting to Kingsley's call for the poisoning of Igbo children.
He said that the Federal Government’s selective application of action has prompted the immediate call for an investigation into Kingsley call for poisoning of Igbo children.
The statement reads:
"The Federal Government of Nigeria’s prevailing selective action has necessitated our call for the immediate investigation of Mr. Kingsley, who is said to be based in Austria.

Following the condemnable hate speech from Kingsley in Austria and the subsequent outburst by Amaka Patience Sunnberger in Canada, evidence shows that the Nigerian government had promptly and without delay reached out to the Canadian authorities to investigate Amaka. Further, if social media information is accurate, Amaka has been suspended from work while the investigation is ongoing. However, we have yet to see a similar action against Kingsley, who initiated the hate speech debate.
It is equally important that the Nigerian government takes swift action regarding Kingsley, whose vile call for the poisoning of Igbo children on August 29, 2024, has shocked and horrified many, and equally prompted Amaka’s outburst.
Therefore, I strongly urge the Nigerian government, especially Dr. Abike Dabiri, to engage with the Austrian government to ensure that Kingsley is thoroughly investigated and sanctioned accordingly for his reprehensible actions. He should have no place to hide.
No individual should be allowed to incite violence or spread hatred with impunity. By taking firm and decisive action, we can send a clear message that hate speech and incitement to violence will not be tolerated, regardless of where they originate. This is even as we await an unreserved public apology from certain individuals who are now gainfully rewarded with lucrative political appointments at the Federal level, unbeknownst to many that it is the seed of hate speech they sowed against Igbos that is now germinating. Unfortunately, the evil fruits are being harvested not only within our shores but across the globe.
Let us continue to stand united against all forms of hatred and work together to promote peace and harmony in our communities."

A human rights lawyer and led counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi kanu, Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor has described the call for the poisoning of Igbo children whereever they are found as an incitement to violence and affront to humanity.
A Nigerian based in Austria,simply identified as Kingsley had in his Tik Tok urged Benin People of Edo State to poison Nigerian children of Igbo extraction where they are found .
According to Ejiofor,such a call and statement is disturbing, callous and appalling.
He said that no matter the deep grievance he may have against the Igbo,there is no justification for encouraging people to poison innocent Nigerian children of Igbo tribe.
The statement reads:
"My attention has been drawn to the attached viral post and I am deeply appalled and outraged by the utterances of "a man who identified himself as Kingsley, in a disturbing Tik Tok audio, encouraged Benin people of Edo State to poison Nigerian children of Igbo extraction."
The said Kingsley,whose surname is still unknown is a Nigerian man based in Austria, on August 29, 2024, called for the poisoning of Igbo children wherever they are found. Such a vile and inhumane statement is not only a blatant incitement to violence but an affront to the very essence of humanity.
No grievance, no matter how deep, can justify the call for violence against innocent children. This level of hatred and bigotry is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. While we understand that Amaka Patience Sunnberger’s recent hate speech was in direct response to this, responding to hate with more hate only escalates tensions .
I urge all well-meaning individuals to stand against this rhetoric of violence and to promote peaceful dialogue and understanding. We must protect our children and ensure that they grow up in a world where they are valued and safe, regardless of their ethnic background.
True resolution can only be achieved through peaceful means, such as dialogue and referendums, which allow for the expression of differing viewpoints in a constructive manner. By fostering open communication and respecting the will of the people, we can address grievances and build a more just and harmonious society"

Human Rights Activist Takes Journalists To Soludo’s Projects in Anambra


Human Rights Crusader and Convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi, has commended the developmental and transformational strides of Prof. Charles Soludo in Anambra State.


According to Obi, the governor is doing wonderfully well in the state, but the public has not been given the opportunity to learn about these developments.
He expressed concern that while Governor Soludo is achieving significant progress, this information is not reaching the public.


Obi made this statement on Friday while conducting journalists on a tour of some of Soludo’s monumental completed and ongoing projects in the state.

He said the governor has significantly transformed the state into a livable city and urged residents to support his second term bid to enable him to continue the good work he is doing.

Obi said that Soludo has positively impacted the lives of people in the state through various projects aimed at improving well-being and development across all 139 communities and 21 local government areas.

“Over the past two and a half years, he has performed admirably and deserves a second term to complete the process of good governance and showcase positive achievements across the three senatorial districts of the state. Soludo should be given another four years to continue the extensive work across the state. We have heard about the governor’s good work, but today we have seen it firsthand. These are wonderful and marvelous achievements that will leave a lasting legacy.”

“I decided to bring you journalists here for a tour of the project sites as a private initiative to observe what is happening across the state. Sometimes, the government’s story differs from the citizens’ perspective. As a private citizen, I wanted to see things for myself and communicate the true state of affairs to Anambrarians. What I have seen is the real picture.”

“Soludo is fantastic and wonderful, and I agree with that assessment. The only thing I am asking Anambrarians is to give him four more years. Let them not disrupt this process of radical transformation so that he can complete the ongoing programs,” he stated.

He added that the tour was intended to celebrate the achievements of Anambra’s state government and the contributions of its people.

Among the project sites visited during the tour were the six-kilometer Amansea-Awa-Ndukwuenu-Ufuma road, the Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbeni-Awba-Ofemili road, and the ongoing construction of the Amansea-Ifite-Aroma overpass-Ekwueme-Government road, all in Awka North and South LGAs of the state.

Other sites included the multi-billion-naira Government House Annex on 23 hectares of land with 2.3 kilometers of road and a 2-kilometer perimeter fence; the renovation of Ekwueme Square complex, including the state box, conventional seats, and entrance gates; and the Soludo Fun City complex in Awka, the state capital.

A community leader from Awba-Ofemili town in Awka North Local Government Area, Mr. Ambrose Nweke, commended Governor Soludo for improving the community through extensive road infrastructure that has brought it into the limelight.

“We thank Soludo for this road ,Amansea-Awba-Ofemili road,because a road represents life and light. Conditions were terrible before now. This road was so impassable that vehicles could not drive through. We have other towns around us, like Umunumu, Ezeagu in Enugu State, Omor, and others that are now connected with us,” he stated.

Also, Mr. Chinaedu Oraeki, a 47-year-old former Secretary General of Awba-Ofemili Community, said he had never seen such an asphalt road project in the area before.
“I was born here, and the road conditions were terrible. I thank God today for the governor we have.”

“This was not done because of our efforts but because of the governor’s benevolence. We thank him and hope he will fulfill his promise to link us to Ayamelum Local Government. We believe he will do it because he built this road without any pressure on him; he did it voluntarily,” he stated.

I have been observing the overwhelming jubilation seen in this video among the personnel of the State Security Service following the announcement of the new Director General and the sudden removal of the former DG, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi, who held sway at the helms of affairs of the Service, since his appointment by Buhari administration on 14th September, 2018, till his unceremonious resignation on August 26th, 2024.

The loud celebration marking the departure of this despot, signals the unceremonious end of an infamous tenure; an era marked by the most egregious violations of citizens' civil rights, disregard for constitutional orders, and blatant contempt for the rule of law.

Under his leadership, the institution was operated as an entity separate from those established, defined and recognised by our existing laws.
Also during his unpopular tenure, the Igbo people were particularly targeted, vilified, and subjected to enforced disappearances. Innocent individuals were ruthlessly hunted down, and many have been missing without a trace to this day.

Under Bichi's watch, my PA- Samuel Okoro, was brutally murdered during a bloody invasion of my ancestral home, and three of my wards namely- Felix Okonkwo, Ikenna Chibuike and Okafor Lawrence Ugochukwu, were abducted in the dead of the night by those specifically assigned to carry out the hatchet assignment; they were briefly detained at the State Security Service headquarters in Abuja, and despite subsisting court orders, were secretly transferred to Wawa Barracks in Niger State, where they are currently held in solitary confinement in clear violation of successive orders of court.
Today, thousands of Igbo men and women, young and old, are illegally detained in SSS custody under Bichi's command, denied the opportunity to be tried in any court of law.
Welfare of the personnel of the Service was grossly undermined during this despotic tenure, no wonder the wild celebrations that greeted his unceremonious exit.

While I do not condone or support those who commit heinous crimes against humanity under any guise, I have always maintained that such criminals should be carefully identified and dealt with according to the law.

Based on the reputable track record of the current DG, he appears to be a true democrat — tested, trusted, and deserving of support and encouragement from every quarters. Although it will require significant political will and courage to clean up the mess left by his predecessor, but the unprecedented jubilation among the personnel suggests that he will succeed and succeed overwhelmingly.

As a member of the human rights community, I believe Mr. Adeola Ajayi should receive the full cooperation, respect, and support necessary to succeed, especially during these challenging times when insecurity is rampant across all spectrums of the Nigerian state.

I respectfully appeal to the incoming DG to use the machineries of his good offices to profile those wrongfully arrested and still detained illegally, and to order for their immediate and unconditional release.

We pray that the current DG will succeed and surpass all expectations.

IPOB Lawyer Urges S/E Govs To Take Action on Enforced Disappearances in Zone

Lawyer for the Indigenous People of Biafra and their detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on the governors of the Southeast states to take immediate action regarding the disappearance of Igbo individuals in the region.
Ejiofor, in a statement on Thursday titled "Enforced Disappearance of Southeast Residents - A Harrowing Crisis Our Politicians Continue Willfully Ignore, Especially Those Currently Campaigning for Election in 2027," expressed dismay that the political leadership of the zone is more focused on campaigning for the 2027 elections than addressing the issue of military abductions in the Southeast. He noted that concerns are escalating daily due to increasing calls from families of some of the victims.

According to him, hundreds of elderly parents, brothers, and sisters are regularly taken by Nigerian security forces and disappear without a trace.

He stated that Amnesty International has now corroborated their concerns about secret abductions and forced disappearances. They are calling on political leaders at all levels to denounce the state actors responsible for these crimes against humanity and demand an end to these grave infractions.

The statement reads:
"In a recent publication I made on July 21, 2024, I raised alarm over the shocking number of our people being abducted daily by state actors under the guise of combating rising insecurity in the Southeast. Hundreds of our elderly parents, brothers, and sisters are regularly taken by Nigerian security forces, disappearing without a trace.
Our concern deepens with the increasing number of distress calls we receive daily from the families of some of these victims of enforced disappearance. It is especially troubling that the relatives of these victims can no longer determine their status, whereabouts, or even whether they are still alive. The reason for their arrest remains unknown, further compounding the agony for their families.
Unfortunately, this alarming trend has not been met with the public outcry and condemnation it deserves, particularly from those who claim to represent us in high political offices. Instead, some of these officials, seemingly absorbed by the privileges of their positions, are preoccupied with preparation for the 2027 election cycle.
Now that Amnesty International has stepped in to corroborate our concerns about these secret abductions and forced disappearances, we call on our political leaders at all levels to denounce the state actors responsible for this crime against humanity and demand an end to these grave infractions.
We have also suggested in our various discussions that security agents have the capacity to identify their targets and apprehend the actual threats, yet they continue to target ostensibly innocent and harmless citizens. These innocent individuals are then transported to unknown locations where they may be either killed or indefinitely detained without any trace. Wawa Military Barracks in Niger State, for instance, is currently holding an outrageously high number of innocent Igbos who have been detained indefinitely, with no hope of freedom in sight.
I am urging the governors of the Southeast states to take immediate action and use the machinery of government to address this rising trend. Enough is enough!"

The convener of the Ezinano Awka South of Anambra state Security Summit, Ozo Jeff Nweke, has urged everyone to unite in combating the menace of cultism in the capital city.

Ozo Nweke, speaking during a symposium on combating violent crimes and cultism in Awka, said that the cult members and those perpetuating violent crime in Awka are known by the communities; they are not spirits.

"Anyone who claims not to know those killing in our town is not telling the truth. I feel pain because what is happening in Awka is not what we were accustomed to in our time. Our young ones are killing themselves while we watch in silence. Many people have lost their loved ones, and if we don't address this problem with the help of security agencies, no one else will do it for us," he said.

According to him, the people of Awka are disturbed by the current situation as many young men have met untimely deaths.

He said that cultism and violent crime in Awka are affecting everyone, and we need to come together to fight this menace or risk losing our youth, who are the leaders of tomorrow.

Ozo Nweke stated that as part of their efforts to solve the problem, they have decided to create jobs for the youth in the community,who chose to crime due unemployment.

He also stated that the community has initiated a process of reconciliation to encourage those involved in violent crimes to renounce their membership in cults.

He revealed that the community plans to provide N100 million to women, with the condition that anyone whose child is a cultist will not benefit from this money.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Obono Itam, said that the police cannot work alone and that communities are essential for effective policing.

Obono, represented by ACP Eneke Eyo, commended the Ezinano for their initiative, noting that the current situation is concerning.

He urged everyone to take responsibility for addressing the effects and challenges in the community, emphasizing that it is a collective responsibility.

A human rights lawyer and counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has criticized Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, over his comment about the All Progressives Congress (APC) taking over Abia State in 2027.

Ejiofor described Kalu's comment as a mere daydream.
In a statement issued on Monday, Ejiofor said that Kalu's remarks in a trending video clearly show that he is disconnected from the people of Abia State,his home state and the reality on the ground.

In the video, Hon. Benjamin Kalu stated that he cannot be the sixth citizen of the country while the Labour Party (LP) governs his state.
He asserted that this would be the last time an LP governor would lead Abia State.
"This is the last time an LP governor will govern Abia. I say this without missing words; the next governor of Abia State must be APC. I will never be the number six citizen of the country while another party governs my state. By 2027, an APC governor will be in office. I have told the governor in person and publicly; we are friends. How it will happen, I don’t know, but I am confident because we are working hard in Abia State. I am confident because my government is working hard to bring development to Abia State; the president is also working hard and will be retained. The president who allows dividends of democracy in Abia State will be retained. We are not ungrateful people in Abia State. APC will not help the state to be strong, and LP will take the credit" he stated.

Reacting, Ejiofor said the trending video highlights the extent of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu's desperation. He stated that Kalu's comments show he is completely disconnected from the realities in his home state.

The Igbo community in Michigan will hold its Igbo Day and the first New Yam Festival in Detroit City on Saturday, August 17.

The festival will feature “authentic Igbo cuisines, masquerades, cultural music, and a cultural competition,” according to Gabriel Ugwu, president of the Igbo Cultural Festival of Michigan (ICAM).

Sponsored by Mabel Hotel in Asaba, headquarters of Nigeria’s Delta State, the 2024 ICAM will be held at the northwestern campus of Wayne County Community College, West Detroit.
