Pls how do I get a yr old Tenera nursery here in Ibadan?? Does NIFOR has any outlet in Ibadan?? If yes pls where in Ibadan??
As answered. NIFOR has no outlet (s) in Ibadan but you can make enquiries at OYSADEP, NIHORT, FRIN or Moore Plantation. Check these government establishments not individuals (not even the staff of these estabs). Better still find your way to NIFOR Benin City, Edo State.

Just for clarity and standardization
1ha will accommodate approximately 150 palm stands at measurement of 9m x 9m
1ha = 2.5acres
1acre will accommodate approximately 60 palm stands only.

Please potentials in this oilpalm plantation agribusiness should engage and pay professional(s).

Good Evening to the fellow Farmers and My Ogas! I hail and remain loyal to you guys!. I wanted to say thanks for this forum and i have learnt a lot from reading your comments and sharing your stories. I made contact direct to few of my bosses here and i wanted to appreciate you guys a lot again. As a student still learning from you all. Am about to do the planting in fews weeks time. I have small land of 19 acres which is clear in end of Dec. last year in Ibadan. About to plow the first round this weekend and the second time in 2 weeks later. Seeding in currently in nursery since Sept. in Akure ready to transport to farm. I'm hiring a consulter that will manage the farmland the planting process. I get the following quotation from him and he advice to you boko hiram wire for seeding, base on you guys experience is this quotation ideal or not. You opinion and advice will really appreciate. Again thanks to all of you guys without mentioning names.

QUOTATION: PALM SEEDLINGS PLANTING.

1. MAPPING AND PEGGING.

A mapper will measure an approved distance of 9 meters and obey the
Triangular method of planting thereby identifying every point of
Planting of the seedling.

Cost implication is #7000per acre total. #7000 X 19 = #133,000

2. PLANTING.

The cost implication of planting the seedling is prepared per stand.
Digging of hole and planting per stand is #300.00
Total seedling is 1140 for 19 acre which = #300 X 1140 = #342,000.00

3. Quotation for 2/2 planks to be molded into 3ft pegs.

1. Total no of 2/6 planks needed=1500 pieces

2. These 1500 2/2 planks will be cut and remolded into pegs, average number of pegs expected=5000 pieces or more

3. Each seedling will need 4 pegs each. Total no required will be (4pegs X 1140 total no of seedlings) = 4560 pegs

4. Total cost of purchasing of 1500 2/2. Cutting and molding into
Pegs of 5000 or more = #560,000

4. NETTING BY CARPENTER.

Cost of netting a seedling is #400.00 Netting of 1140 seedling is = #456,000

5. NAILS.

11/2(INCH AND HALF) will be used.

A bag cost #15,000

3bags will cost 3 X 15000 = #45,000

Transportation of the planks/pegs from Ibadan metropolis to Omi Adio
Will cost = #75,000

SUMMARY

1.1500 pieces of 2by2 = #560,000

Transportation of planks #75,000

2. Mapping & pegging = #133,000

3. Planting of 1140 seedlings = #342,000

4. Netting by carpenter = #456,000

5. Nails (inch and 1/2.3bags) =#45,000

Grand total. = #1,611,000

QUOTATION: CASSAVA STEM PLANTING.

PURCHASE OF CASSAVA:

30 bundles of cassava stem cover an acre.

570 bundles of cassava stem will covers 19 acres.

A bundle of cassava stem cost. #700 (700 X 570) = #399,000.

Cost of transporting cassava from Eruwa to Omi-Adio cost #50,000

PLANTING COST.

An acre cost. #8000.

19 acre gives (19 X 8000) = #152.000

GRAND TOTAL COST. #601,000.

PURCHASE OF CASSAVA: #399,000.
Cost of transporting cassava: #50,000
PLANTING COST. #152.000

N.B.
Exclude Plow before planting & Spraying after planting.

Seeing a kind of waste of resources and sort of extortion by "somebody" all because you're a naïve. What is the motive behind "designer" pegs and "celebrated" netting.
Not condemning your consultant here but there are some "majoring on minors" in this quotes.
Wishing you best in your endeavor.

How Agriculture Can Save Nigeria From Recession
It is widely admitted that Nigeria is currently passing through an economic-challenging moment ever in her history.
The country is battling with outburst economic recession — at a coincident time when Naira fast depreciates against other currencies most especially dollar coupled with the
nosediving price of Nigeria’s major dependence source of earning (crude oil), workers’ salaries payments delay for months and high inflation. All these are what constituted the breeze of economy discomfort blowing across nooks
and crannies of the nation — majorly felt by those who failed to utilize their potential and take swift action. The impact of the intense economic hardship is widely felt — of which Nigeria has never experienced before.

GROWING OIL PALM

* Technical aspects of oil palm

Oil Palm (Elaeis guinensis Jacq.) is a native of Guinea Coast of West Africa. It belongs to family Palmae and tribe Cocoineae. Oil palm is the highest oil source among perennial oil yielding crops. It produces two distinct oils viz., palm oil (extracted from mesocarp of fresh fruits) and palm kernel oil (from kernel). Palm oil has excellent health attributes. It is rich in vitamins A and E and is cholesterol free. Palm oil can be used in formulation of margarine and cooking fat. It can be used in manufacture of biscuits, ice creams, soaps, detergents, and shampoos and also as frying fat. Palm kernel oil has variety of industrial uses.

# Varieties: Broadly, there are three varieties viz., Dura, Piscifera and Tenera. Tenera, a hybrid of Dura and Piscifera is characterized by a thin shell and medium to high mesocarp (65-90%) and high oil content (16-20%). It is a commercially cultivated variety.

# Soil and climatic requirements: Deep well-drained medium loam soil, rich in humus is the most suit
able for oil palm cultivation. Oil palm requires a well distributed rainfall of 2500 to 4000 mm per annum and a temperature range of 19-33° C. It is a water-loving crop and it requires adequate irrigation. The crop responds well to drip irrigation and yields are reported to increase by at least 20%.

# Planting: Oil palm is planted in triangular system at a spacing of 9 X 9 X 9 m accommodating 143 plants in a hectare. Planting can be done in any season. However, the best period is June to December. Seedlings of 10-14 months age are best suited for planting.

# Irrigation : Oil palm requires adequate irrigation, as it is a fast growing crop with high productivity and biomass production. For yielding palms of above three years age, a minimum of 150 litres per day is required. In older plantations the requirement goes upto 20 litres per day.
The crop responds well to drip or micro sprinkler irrigation p
articularly when water is limited. If drip is installed four drippers have to be placed for each palm. If each dripper discharges 8 litre per hour, 4-5 hour of irrigation is sufficient to discharge 160 litre per day. Drip irrigation increases the productivity by 15-20 per cent, reduces wastage of water, and requires less power/fuel per irrigation compared to conventional irrigation methods. It is important to note that any physiological stress shifts sex ratio in favour of male flowers and consequently the productivity is reduced.

# Nutrition: Fertilizers are preferably applied in 3-4 split doses. Application of green leaf manure or compost is advantageous, especially where the soils are poor inorganic matter.

# Inter crop: During the initial stages of plantation in oil palm i.e., upto 3rd year, some of the light feeder inter crops such as pulses, cereals, vegetables, grasses etc., can be grown. Inter crop should be grown 1m. away from the basin in 1st year of oil palm plantation. In two-year-old plantations, it should be grown 2m away, followed by 3m in the third year plantations.

# Yield : Oil palm starts bearing from 4th year onwards and its economic life varies from 30 to 35 years. The yield of oil palm varies according to age and management. Under average management conditions in a mature plantation (8 to 9 years old), yield of 15-18 tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) per hectare is expected. Under good maintenance and management, yield upto 25-30 tonnes of FFBs per hectare is possible

Hello house

I just saw this thread and it was more than useful. I have 6 acres of land for palm plantation. I want to ask how many palm tree can I plant in that land with a 9meter spacing. And also I want to ask where can I get a very cheap land in southeast Nigeria like an hectar for very cheap for Palm plantation purpose.

Thanks very much.

This your 6 acres is approximately 2.43 hectares = 24,281m²

At 9m x 9m dimension you will plant 124 palm stands on 1ha = 10,000m²

So on 6 acres = 2.43hectares = 24,281m², you will plant approximately 301 palm stands.

On land matter, the gurus here will/may help.

Hello House,
I believe some grown-up plantation owners are smiling to their banks at this moment, as the price of all products from oil-palm are appreciating everyday.
You of the maturing plantations too will soon join the club.
You the potentials too will reach there; it is a matter of time.
