The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun State on Thursday confirmed that five persons died while 36 others sustained injuries in road accidents that happened in the state between Aug. 8 and Aug. 20,

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for TRACE, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta, that 17 road traffic accidents were recorded during the period involving 23 vehicles and one motorcycle.

He said 63 persons were involved in the accident out of which 36 persons, 23 males and 13 females sustained various degrees of injuries.

Akinbiyi said those who died included four males and one female.

He said that 45.73 per cent of the accidents was caused by speeding, 22.84 per cent by dangerous driving, 9.80 per cent by bad tyres, 2.45 per cent by driving against traffic and 19.18 per cent by other causes.

Furthermore, 57 motorists and 25 motorcycle operators were apprehended for 125 offences,’’ he said.

Akinbiyi stressed that the resolve to reduce road accident deaths and injuries in the state would be pursued vigorously in 2019.

The spokesman appealed to motorists and other road users to obey traffic rules, adding that no traffic offender in the state would be spared.

AMCON and UBA have gotten the permission to seize the assets and bank accounts belonging to Duke and two other respondents.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the request of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to take over assets and accounts belonging to the former presidential candidate and two other respondents.

The applicants, in a suit marked FHC/L/CS/1373/2019, filed an ex parte application for an order of interim attachment, possession, and custody of the property located at No. 3, Temple Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

They said Duke, listed as second respondent in the suit, mortgaged the property as collateral to secure the indebtedness of Stonehedge Investment Limited, the first respondent. Mrs Owanari Bob-Manuel Duke was listed as the third respondent in the suit.

The applicants also urged the court to grant an injunction to take possession of the respondents' funds in any bank pending the institution and disposal of proceedings for the recovery of the debt.

The N537 million debt is made up of the principal debt and interest, according to the applicants.

In a takeover order issued on August 8, 2019, Justice Chuka Obiozor granted the orders of the applicants and restrained the respondents from interfering with the takeover action.

He also ordered the applicants to ensure service of substantive originating processes on the respondents within 20 days of making the order, and adjourned the case till September 2.

When asked how she copes with marriage and work, Mercy replied she makes use of scale of preference as she puts in what’s more important to her at that particular moment ahead any other things.

The Minister of Transportation Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said he knew he would return as Minister following a hint from President Buhari.

Amaechi who spoke at a post-swearing-in reception organised for him by his supporters from Rivers State, said, "the President told me the same week cabinet was dissolved that 'I will return you to cabinet.

I kept it a secret, but I could have announced to you. So all those who were running helter-skelter, will know that God would not allow them to have their way.

The Minister who thanked God for his reappointment, stressed that the next thing to do is to make sure that his team performs well in the ministry in such a way that it would be pleasing to the President and to Nigerians, adding that it is extremely key.
According to him,

We are grateful to God for the opportunity to serve again. I know many of you were frightened that we would not get the appointment.

He urge members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who came to celebrate with him to go home and prepare for Ward, Local Government and State Congresses, adding that only those who can deliver should be carried along.

He also cautioned them to "Be mindful of those who can betray, saying they are taking bribe here and there. I'm not talking about our party or supporters,

I am talking about the institutions that are taking bribe here and there. Go home and prepare for Congress, thank you and God bless you", he said.

Speaking on the Minister's reappointment, an elder statesman and political leader in Ikwerre land, Chief Sampson Agbaru, said that he is proud of Hon. Amaechi for bringing Ikwerre together, adding that today is one of his best days. "This man will lift Ikwerre and Nigeria higher, he is a man that everyone is proud of because he works and performs his best.

God created him for a purpose and until he does so, Nigeria will not be happy. It's good to give way to people who know the work," Agbaru said.

On her part, a Board Member, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Maureen Tamuno while speaking on the Minister's return, said it is a welcome development for the NRC

The Ilasamaja community of Lagos State has raised the alarm over the spate of missing children. The community alleged that there is a syndicate abducting little children, especially during this period of a long vacation.

The community has therefore called on the Lagos State government and the state police command to rescue the children and fish out the syndicate responsible for the abduction.

According to reports, four children have been stolen in the last three weeks, while two attempts have been foiled by the community.

Last week, two kids, four-year-old Raphael Ogunwole and Godwin Mbachu were stolen by a man on August 14 at their residence, No. 10, Oluwakenmi Street, Ilasamaja.

A parent of one of the abducted minors, Mr. Christian Mbachu, who narrated how the kids were stolen, said: “Raphael and Godwin were born the same year and we all live in the same compound. Being that they were born the same week, they became too close that they play together. On a fateful day, they were playing outside the house.

When my wife came to call Godwin to eat, she did not see him. She did not entertain any fear as she concluded he might be in his friend’s house.

My wife went to Raphael’s house, and none of them was there. So, she raised the alarm and the two families and other sympathizers went to the streets in search of them. My wife called me on the phone telling me about the unfortunate development.

When I came back home, I joined the search party, but we couldn’t find them. It was around 9:00 p.m. that a man told me that he saw the kids with a familiar face that he often see in a barber’s shop near my house.

“The man said he saw the individual in the company of the kids, but he did not suspect that they were being stolen, as the face was a familiar one. He told us that the man was guiding the children and they were moving towards Cele area.

We ran to the area, but our children had gone far. My family is in shambles; my family and that of my neighbour are devastated. My heart burns. I am confused.

We are appealing to the state government; the police and Nigerians to help us look for our children. We are also appealing to those who abducted the minors to release them.

The immediate past Ogun State Governor and the lawmaker representing Ogun Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has commiserated with Senator Buruji Kashamu over the death of his mother, the late Alhaja Wulemotu Kashamu.

Amosun, in a letter dated August 8 and addressed to Kashamu, urged the governorship candidate of the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election and his entire family not to mourn but celebrate her

great impact in business, community service and religious activities.

The letter reads, “I write to commiserate with you on the death of your dear mother, Alhaja Wulemotu Kashamu, who died on Wednesday, 7th of August 2019, at a ripe age of 96 years.

Her transition is certainly a glorious exit. I enjoin you and your entire family not to mourn, but to celebrate her great impact in business, community service and religious activities, as well as the noble accomplishments she recorded in other facets of her life, in the almost one century of her sojourn on earth.

It is my prayer that the Almighty Allah (SWT) will forgive her sins, grant her Aljanah Firdaus, and grant you and your entire family the strength and fortitude to bear the pain of her loss.

Once again, please accept my condolences and the assurances of my highest regards.

The late Alhaja Kashamu died on Wednesday, 7th August, 2019, at the ripe age of 96.

She has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has alleged that former Governor Rochas Okorocha approved and used about N11.2 billion to build ultra-modern police headquarters and hospitals for the military.

Ihedioha, who insisted that those projects were under Federal Government’s purview, made the allegation in a statement titled: How Rochas Okorocha Robbed Imo to Pay Abuja issued by his Special Assistant on Research, Ogu Bundu Nwadike.

He said Imo people were denied of the funds, which could have impacted on them in the most desired areas of need, than channeling such resources to the constitutionally excluded projects for state governments.

When Vice President Yemi Osinbajo visited Imo State on his tour of oil producing states, Okorocha in his welcome address told the audience that Imo State did not benefit anything from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.

Okorocha narrated how in spite of the fact that Imo State is an APC State, it received no special benefit from the Federal Government.

Ironically, he went ahead to use N 11.2b to build a house for the Federal Government as Headquarters of the Nigeria Police. He also gave out a number of General Hospitals to the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force.

That is a case of robbing Imo to pay Abuja. How could a governor who couldn’t attract anything from the central government be building structures with lean State resources and giving them out to the Federal Government?” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Ihedioha at the weekend resolved the lingering land crisis between the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) Regiment 211 and Imo communities.

The host communities are, Obube and Umuowa communities in Owerri North and Ngor Okpala council of the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Chibuike Onyeukwu, the governor also sued for a peaceful resolution of all land related crisis in the state.

Ihedioha was accompanied by the Commandant, 211 Regiment Group, Group Captain Phillip Elisha Bindul and top government functionaries, who visited and met with stakeholders from the communities.

He said the purpose of his visit was to ascertain contentious issues and seek cooperation of the communities to allow peace and development to thrive in the area.

Speaking, Bindul lamented how litigations in court had hindered work on the proposed site, saying the NAF was allocated 100 hectares of land for the construction of the 211 Regiment and as a law abiding agency, it would not exceed the boundary allocated to it.

Traditional Ruler of the area, Eze Jude Chidi Nwaogu, commended Governor Ihedioha for his prompt intervention in the dispute and assured of their cooperation and support towards a peaceful resolution.

Two serving corps members in Katsina State, on Sunday morning, died in a ghastly lone road accident that occurred at Gobirawa village in Kankara local government area of the state.

The corps members are a lady from Akwa Ibom State and a male from Anambra.

Details of their identities were yet to be provided by the National Youths Service Corps in Katsina by Press time.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the late corps members were travelling along with other colleagues in a vehicle with inscription ‘CORPERS FOR CHRIST’ to attend a wedding at a Catholic Church in Funtua when the accident happened.

The green metallic colour vehicle has a registration number MAN 45 AA.

Governor Aminu Masari, who was travelling to Danja when he got to the accident spot, directed that his pilot vehicle be used to convey the corpses of the late corps members and their other colleagues back to Katsina.

The Governor was on his way to Danja to attend the burial rites of Alhaji Saleh Danja who had also died in a ghastly road accident on Saturday at Tsanni in Batagarawa local government area of the state.

Late Alhaji Danja, aka, Saleh, was one of the close people to Governor Masari .

A corps member who survived the Sunday accident told Governor Masari that they were on their way to attend a mass wedding at a Catholic Church in Funtua.

Big Brother Naija housemate, Esther, has opened up on Frodd’s attempt to touch her against her will on Saturday night.

It was reported that Frodd after the Saturday night party was seen on Esther’s bed without underwear, while trying to touch and caress Esther’s body.

Esther hesitated and warned Frodd to wear his boxers back on several times but he refused.

This attracted Biggie’s attention as he called Frodd to an emergency diary session.

After the diary session, Frodd who was earlier on Esther’s bed, retuned suddenly to his own bed.

It is not sure what Biggie told him at the diary session as it was not aired to the BBNaija fans but there is the possibility that Frodd may be issued a strike or be disqualified for harassment.

But speaking to Frodd on Sunday, Esther while apologizing to him said that he did nothing wrong.

According to her, she was not in the mood to play that was why she acted that way.

She said, “ Did biggy say you should come to your bed? You didn’t do anything wrong. I was just pissed yesterday and you weren’t listening.”

Frodd, however, added that he didn’t sleep after the incident.

The Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) has stated that the agriculture value chain can provide over 50 million jobs if the Federal Government stops forex restriction as well as place outright ban on food import.

The Chairman of Agricultural Group of NASME, Lagos Chapter, Adam Adebayo made this suggestion in Lagos over the weekend during the announcement of its forthcoming third Business Roundtable scheduled to hold on August 29th, 2019.

Adebayo said, “We have already joined Anchor Borrowers Fund, and we have over 200 farmers and we have acquired over 200 hectares of land on Ogun State. We have the capacity produce what we eat in Nigeria. Agric-value chain alone can create 50 million jobs. We have been advocating this and thank God the President has yielded to it. China with its population, does not import what it eats, China grows what it eats.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of NASME, Mr. Solomon Aderoju, pointed out that forex restriction will help conserve the country’s foreign earnings, adding that it will adversely enhance the already weakened Naira.

While commending the government for the giant stride, he said, this is the only way small businesses would grow, adding that more jobs would be created if well implemented.

He noted that the Association has been advocating for outright ban of luxury foods, adding that imported foods such as canned maize, canned backed beans, corned beef, cornflakes, chocolate, custard and others in that category should not be allowed into the country at all.

Also speaking, the Vice President, Southwest, NASME, Oladipo Jemi-Alade said the federal government’s pronouncement is a new opportunity for the members and other manufacturers in the country to explore the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCTA), saying that the roundtable was apt.

He said, “Now that AfCTA is open unto us, we have to be prepared for the next level. We want to be in a position to compete favourably with our foreign counterparts. For this reason, we are upgrading our skills, and we have embarked on membership training nationwide to build skills and capacity.

The chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa has condemned the attack on the former deputy senate president, and a serving senator, Ike Ekweremadu at the 2nd Annual Igbo cultural festival in Nuremberg, Germany.

In a statement on Saturday, Dabiri said the incident was an embarrassment to the country and called on the German government and law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were made to face full consequences for their actions.

She said that it was shameful and pathetic that an event which was put together by Ndigbo community in Germany and whose members comprised of the majority of Nigerians living in Germany, to amongst other things provide a forum for the Diasporans and various stakeholders to network and facilitate a better cooperation between German and Nigerian businesses, ended up in such a disgraceful manner.

She appealed to Nigerians to be of good behavior wherever they found themselves because such incidents had the capacity to tarnish the image of the country.

Meanwhile the Igbo apex socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo also expressed shock over the incident and asked Germany law enforcement agency to fish out the perpetrators.

A statement by the president-general of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Dr. Nnia Nwodo, described the action as 'un-Igbo' and lamented that Ekweremadu who had always been in the forefront of fighting Igbo cause did not deserve the kind of treatment meted out to him by the pro-Biafra agitators.

He said, "The assault on Ekweremadu by Igbos in Germany, described as IPOB, is disappointing, grotesque and dangerous for Igbo solidarity.

This violent, rude, impertinent, divisive and discourteous style of IPOB or IPOB instigated miscreants is damaging to our cause.

It strengthens the case of those who describe them as terrorists and weakens our case against the infringement of our fundamental human rights.

"Ekweremadu negotiated the sureties and securities for Nnamdi Kanu’s release on bail. He does not deserve this picketing and disgrace.

A disgrace to him is a disgrace to Igbo race. Whilst I condemn the attack on our revered son and leader, I call on the law enforcement agencies in Germany to bring to book the perpetrators of this despicable act. It is un-Igbo. It is disgraceful.

In a chat with Potpourri the actress opened up on the engagement and how her son comes into the details.

Been single for 12 years with a son to cater for “alone” has been the toughest years so far. Honestly, it was terribly tough but I thank god today.

Sometimes, when I think of a day like now, I put my son into consideration first, being my priority. I find it difficult to take this bold step with a lot of phrases like What if,” she said.

I consider my son’s feelings, acceptance and love. I had to wait till this time just for him to be of age and by God’s grace he will be 14 in 6 months.
