A commercial bus driver Ezekiah Andrew Ovotu 31 and his conductor Abdulmon Mustapha 32 have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos state police command Special Anti Robbery Squad(SARS) for using their bus to pickpocket their passengers along Oshodi Mile2 road in Lagos.

According to source, the operatives of SARS got an intelligence report of the suspects’ nefarious activities along Oshodi Mile2 through the Directorate of the State Secret Service (DSS) and arrested them after many days of surveillance.

In his confession, the driver Andrew assumed ” I am from Urobo, Orere village, Ugheri South, Delta pomp but I was instinctive and brought up in Lagos.

I had five credits without English and Mathematics in the year 2006. My father is late and mother too poor to take care of us and to assist my mother I decided to learn how to drive by following a commercial bus as a motor boy.

When I learnt how to drive I started driving a commercial bus. I was rendering account to the owner of the bus every day. At least I used to deliver #5,000 to the owner of the bus and I share #5,000 with my conductor every day.

One day we arrested a pickpocket in our bus. His name is Sodiq a.k.a Okoye and he begged us with #20,000 to leave him.

Later in the day he came and met us and took us to a beer parlour where he bought beer and pepper soup for us and still dash me and my conductor #10,000.

He brainwashed us that pickpocketing with commercial bus is lucrative and that he used to make #50,000 or more on days he worked well and if we work together with him we will make good money.

The idea made us lazy as we started deliberating on it daily which affected our daily delivery to the bus owner.

Therefore, when our bus got faulty, the owner refused to repair it rather he took the key asked us to go.

When we met our friend Sodiq and told him that we have been sacked he told us not to worry and went and bought a fairly used bus and gave it to me to be driving.

He became the leader of a three-man gang of bus pickpocket with me as the driver, Mustapha as the conductor and Sodiq as the taker.

At times we make #50 ,000 the day we work well. Sodiq will take #20,000, l take #10,000, Mustapha will take #10,000 while the remaining #10,000 is kept for buying of our operational bus fuel.

In his confession, Mustapha said “I am from Awori, Lagos. I am the conductor of the bus. My role is to shadow passengers who are loaded. Sodiq is the ‘taker’, taker is the one who does the pickpocketing in the bus.

He sits in the front seat and directs loaded passenger to the front seat. Once the passenger is seated the driver will make the bus to enter gallop or porthole which will make the whole body of the bus to start shaking.

Once the bus is shaking the taker will start work by tactically removing the passenger’s wallet or phone.

We don’t use gun nor force. If the passenger discovers that his phone or wallet had been removed we lie to him that it fell on the seat give it to him. Sodiq escaped when he saw the SARS operatives in their scorpion vests.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has called on Muslims to use the period of Eid el-Kabir to pray for Nigeria to overcome its present challenges.

In his Sallah message to Muslims in the country, Omo-Agege urged Nigerians to be tolerant and continue to work for peace, unity and progress of the country.

The senator, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, expressed the readiness of the 9th National Assembly to work with the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to ensure that Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy by actualising all the programmes in the All Progressives Congress’s Next Level Agenda.

He also called on Nigerians to eschew bitterness and ill-feelings towards one another as the country stands to gain a lot from a united front.

As Nigerian Muslims join the rest of the world to celebrate the Eid el-Kabir festivities, I rejoice with them and wish them a hitch-free Sallah celebration.

We must continue to strengthen the spirit of oneness, regardless of religious, ethnic, regional, and political diversities, for that is the only way to build a greater Nigeria,” he said.

The Plateau State University, Bokkos, will start a Faculty of Health Sciences and a Faculty Law in 2020, the Vice-Chancellor, Yohanna Izam, has said.

Mr Izam told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Bokkos that the arrangements had commenced for the take-off of the faculties.

He said contract for the construction of structures for the Faculty of Health Sciences had already been awarded and the contractor had commenced work.

It is a one-year project but we are working with the contractor to see if we can achieve it in 10 months.

We think it is feasible because we have gotten a significant level of funding for that project.

What this implies is that in the next 10 months we will start the processes for commencing programmes in the health sciences.

We have the plan to take off with phase one with a minimum of three departments,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said the National Universities Commission (NUC) approval, as well as accreditation and certification by relevant professional bodies, were being sought.

He stated that the establishment of the health sciences faculty was a priority to the management of the school because of its importance to the people of Plateau and Nigeria.

Mr Izam stated that the establishment of the faculty would be a big achievement because of the politics of health sciences education.

According to him, even within the catchment area, you find out that thousands of people apply, but only a few get admission.

The vice-chancellor also said that approval for upgrading facilities for the take-off of the Faculty of Law had been granted by the visitor of the school, the Governor of Plateau.

The approval by His Excellency is in response to our memo to rehabilitate one of the structures that would be remodelled as a take-off structure for the faculty.

We are also hoping that before the end of the year, the rehabilitation will be completed,” he added.

Mr Izam added that the university was also constructing a befitting complex for the Department of Mass Communication.

He said that the complex was being constructed with funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to enable the university to meet the full accreditation condition of the NUC.

Apart from the projects listed about, the construction of the new health centre, as well as mini-stadium, has also commenced,” he said.

President Alpha Conde of Guinea on Sunday joined his counterpart of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to observe Eid-el-Kabir prayer in Daura, Katsina State.

The prayer was led by the Cheif Imam of Daura, Sheikh Sufyanu Yusuf.

In his sermon, Yusuf stressed the importance of sacrifice in the cause of humanity.

He said that the sacrifice associated with the Eid, was the hallmark of service to God as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim who attempted to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail in deference to God’s command.

The Imam said that sacrifices in all forms must be made to earn the rewards of the Almighty and advance the cause of humanity.

NAN reports that President Conde slaughtered a ram on behalf of President Buhari.

Some of the dignitaries at the prayer ground included Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State, Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu, government officials, traditional rulers, among others.

Dr. Yakubu Nura, a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, has won the World Physics Competition by defeating about 5720 contenders from 97 countries.

World Championship-2019 in Physics (Einstein's planetary equation) acknowledged the outstanding international contributions and selected him "based on international meritorious competition".

Dr. Nura’s research article was announced winner among 5721 nominations from 97 countries, screened for the championship.

Nura is now recognized as the father of modern Einstein's planetary equation studies in Physics. The award was instituted to identify brilliant scientists and academicians around the world.

The competition is organized by the International Agency for Standards and Ratings at international level. According to Voice of Nigeria, Nura plays a vital role in the advancement of scientific knowledge in Physics.

The Movement for the Actualisation the Sovereign State of Biafra on Tuesday condemned the killing of a Catholic priest of Enugu Diocese, Rev Fr Paul Offu, by suspected herdsmen.

Offu was killed along Ihe-Agbudu road in Awgu Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

A statement by the National Director of Information of the group, Edeson Samuel, said MASSOB and other pro-Biafra agitators were already to protect the people in the South-East from attacks.

The group condemned the comments attributed to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Balarabe, that they had arrested some people in connection with Offu’s killing.

The statement said, “It is ridiculous and shameful to create this insensitive and wrong impression to divert attention. The killers of Rev Fr Offu are still hiding in the forest while the police went about arresting innocent people.”

It added, “The Commissioner of Police should stop deceiving the people of Enugu State. If truly he is sure of himself that the killers of Offu have been arrested, he should be bold enough to parade them.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to seek permission to detain the convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, for 90 more days pending the conclusion of its investigation.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo, however, adjourned until Thursday for ruling, as he said he needed time to examine the exhibits filed along with the application, which include two copies of DVD.

Sowore was arrested in the early hours of Saturday in Lagos, on account of the #RevolutionNow protest which he had spearheaded.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 2019 election, on Saturday, August 3, 2019, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had ruined Nigeria.

In a speech by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku thought Nigerians in the gone four living lived in multi-dimensional poverty.

He said, the United Nations reawakened Nigerians to the perceived reality of how poorly the Buhari-led administration had managed the nation’s economy with a damning verdict that 98 million Nigerians live in multi-dimensional poverty.

He said it was not surprising that Buhari and his handlers, didn’t make any comment about the scary statistics coming from the United Nations Development Programme.

The statement read, “Perhaps, one reason why they didn’t want to comment on the report is because it is factual – Nigerians in the past four years indeed live in multi-dimensional poverty.

Quite regrettably too, the administration has been groping in the dark since 2015, the reason majority of Nigerians decided not to reward their failures during the February 23 presidential poll consequently leading to the heist that characterised the conduct of that poll.”

He added, “The other plausible reason why they didn’t deem it fit to respond to the report is because Atiku had yet to make a remark on the report.

If the only reason why the Buhari-led administration will react to the affliction it has brought on Nigerians is for Atiku to call the nation’s attention to how bad things have gone in the country under the leadership of Buhari, Atiku will more than always, be ready to stand and speak up for the millions of countrymen and women who have become victims of his (Buhari’s) misrule and grand cluelessness.”

Atiku stated that a Commander-in-Chief who fits the bill will not be unconcerned by reports from a reputable media organisation on welfare and well-being of troops at the frontline of combat.

He stated that like the case of other perceived dysfunctional aspects of the system, Buhari’s administration preferred to live in denial, and allegedly relying on propaganda, which the former vice president described as the machine that they know how to operate without a glitch.

He said he had respect for the practical purpose of the judiciary as an arm of government saddled with the responsibility of dispensing justice.

According to him, for the Buhari-led administration to allegedly call out the judiciary on how they might choose to do their job is not only an emotional blackmail to the bench, but is also very disrespectful to the integrity of the honourable justices of the court of law.

THE much expected #RevolutionIsNow protest initially scheduled to hold in major cities across the country on Monday morning failed to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as heavily armed security officers were stationed at the two major designated locations in the city.

As early as 8.00 am, tens of patrol vehicles with armed mobile policemen, officers of the state security outfit, Operation Burst, officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), State Security Services (SSS), Nigerian Immigration Services, among others were positioned at the entrance of the University of Ibadan and its environs to maintain law and order.


ONDO STATE REVIEW;
The nationwide peaceful protests slated for Monday failed in Ondo State as business and social activities were at highest ebb throughout.

Security forces and agencies deployed their men to strategic areas of Akure metropolis in anticipation of the protest.

At the M.K.O Abiola Democracy Park, close to the main market, Oja Oba, in the heart of the metropolis, officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) and some plain cloth men were sighted on the road leading to the area.

At Mobil Roundabout, Alagbaka, Shoprite, Oda Road, NEPA Roundabout, Isikan Roundabout, Oke Aro policemen and men of NSCDC were seen stationed around and armed.

Besides, several police vans were sighted patrolling major streets in Akure, the state capital while people were going about their businesses undisturbed.

Spokesman of Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police, said the state Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie has ordered their men across the state to be on red alert.
