DPO shielding rogue cops, dares me to report to Buhari – Victim’s wife

A newlywed woman, Sandra Broderick, is in tears over the mental state of her husband, Omesa Broderick, allegedly tortured by some policemen attached to B Division, Warri, Delta State.

While Omesa remains unstable after reportedly undergoing a brain surgery occasioned by the torture, the distraught wife lamented that erring cops identified as Ndubuisi, Felix and Felix Ezesobo, had yet to be brought to book.

Sandra, in a video that went viral on Wednesday, recounted how the policemen allegedly brutalised her husband, a tricycle rider, and left him for dead. It was learnt that the incident happened in August close to the police station.

She said the Divisional Police Officer, B Division, initially identified the power-drunk cops but later developed cold feet on the case and dared her to report the matter to higher authorities.

In the clip, the husband is seen lying helplessly, clutching at Sandra who narrated his ordeal amidst intermittent sobs.

“This is what the police did to me; police brutality. People should come to my aid,” she cried. “Policemen at B Division (Warri) beat up my husband. Two of them bear Felix, the third one is Ndubuisi. The police are hiding them. The DPO told me that they are from B Division but now the police are hiding them.”

She said Omesa sustained internal head injuries and underwent a brain surgery, noting they had spent “almost N5m to take care of him.”

The woman stated further that the policemen after beating her husband to a pulp, impounded his tricycle and kept it at a filling station, adding that it was a good Samaritan who came to his rescue.

“They were not even on duty on the day the incident happened close to B Division,” she narrated amid tears. “They went to change their uniforms, beat up my husband and left him around 7pm. It was around 9pm that somebody rescued him and called me with his phone.”

She stated that Omesa was rushed to the Central Hospital, Warri as he bled profusely through the mouth and nose, adding that he was referred to another hospital for a brain surgery.

“The surgery there (at the hospital) was expensive so we had to go to another hospital, Brayans,” she noted, before breaking down in tears. “That is where we did the operation.”

“This is him,” she continued after wiping off tears, patting her unconscious husband.

“The thing (injury) is affecting his brain,” Sandra added, before betraying emotions again. “He is behaving somehow and he is the breadwinner of the house. We just got married not long after. People should help us.”

She said the family had been bearing the cost for Omesa’s treatment without support from the police who she accused of shielding the perpetrators.

She stated, “I don’t have anybody. They have been pushing the matter here and there. Till now, (we did) not even (get) a penny from the B Division, the DPO or the police; nothing. They left it all for us, saying they will bring them (the policemen) out.

“Whether they have released them, I don’t know. I don’t know what is going on. They left my husband like this. You can see him. I, my mother-in-law and my father-in-law met with the DPO. He identified them as Ndubuisi, Felix and Felix Ezesobo. They are not bringing anybody out. The DPO said I can report to Buhari if I like.

“I asked for the surname of these people, they are hiding them. I reported to the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights. They are the ones that have been taking up the matter, looking for them (the policemen).”

But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, denied that the policemen were being shielded by either the DPO or the command, claiming that the cops were undergoing an orderly room trial.

He said, “The DPO has been constantly checking on her and her husband. How possible that the DPO who informed the command and transferred the case to the State CID would tell her that (to report to Buhari)?

“The policemen are currently in detention and a press release will be issued at the end of the orderly room trial. The orderly room trial commenced last week but prior to that time, they had been in detention.”

It seems the NPF and Federal Government haven't learn anything from the ENDSARS protest. The FG is not doing enough about police brutality in Nigeria. A situation where a NPF personnel go dey tell you say he go kill you and nothing go happen, cause he knows he go talk say nah "accidental discharge" or make he tag you a thief, cultist or IPOB member, and there will be no investigation about the killing after that..And people go dey want make you feel pity for this things when they are been attacked and killed.

The security personnel and FG should know they are really pushing Nigerians to the wall, when the people decide to stand up and fight again, is going to be more crazy this time around

It's not that they aren't doing enough, they actually aren't doing anything, and the masses are the future financial security of the people that should be disciplining the police officers, so they wouldn't remove or stop their source of income

Even when I tell people,they don’t believe me so sometimes I don’t bother telling....

I’ve decided to live my truth,this particular story is what I don’t like telling,this is the part of my life that I choose not to tell publicly but I think I have the courage to say it now,but before I start my story let me state that I didn’t have my child out of wedlock I got married at 17,

I did both Traditional and white wedding and the marriage didn’t last for complete 6months cos he wanted a slave and a punching bag as a wife, I ran away,each time I run away my parents took me back to him cos they thought I was lying

Not Untill my mum witnessed everything herself he almost beat her black and blue,she brought me back home herself with the support of my dad,my dad personally returned the dowry that was paid

Trouble started in the marriage when he breached the agreement,before i accepted the marriage he promised in the presence of my family and elders that he will put me in school,cos I already wrote jamb

He met me like today... he paid my dowry in 2days time,because he was from the same village with us and my family knows his family...

even tho I told my parents that I don’t know this guy and I don’t love him they said love will come and that it’s normal

My mum married at 16 so because it worked for her she felt it will work for me too,within 3 weeks we were done with both white wedding and traditional wedding

After the marriage,jamb result came out and I made it,I wanted to study law in unizik,he said over his dead body will I go to school,that I have to finish having kids before school which didn’t go down well with me,I felt used cos this was not the agreement...
And I was already like a month pregnant

Not like my dad wasn’t capable of sending me to school but they believe in early marriage and then suitors were coming for me every December each time we travel for Xmas because I’m too tall so one could think I’m an adult

So much happened,so much that I thought of taking my own life while pregnant,my life was so messed up at that age,each time I call my friends it’s either they were in school already or planing to

Sometimes I get kicked in my stomach sometimes I pass out cos of beating The hospital where I had my child in Abuja have my records Dara clinics Garki Abuja,at some point when I go to hospital I don’t want to go back home

At some point the doctor had to call my mum adviced her to come pick me that I’m too small to go through all these...(that’s before she witnessed what she witnessed)

I don’t regret having my child even tho I hated the father,I loved her right from when the doctor said I was pregnant of course she didn’t stop me from Going to school....cos I made sure I went back to school
Neither was she a hindrance to my dreams...
With her made it even more Easy because she was the motivation to chase money...

I mean when you have someone who look up to you,you won’t have no choice than to chase the bag...

I’ve always been there for her,I got admission 1year after I had her,thanks to my late mum who made it easy by taking care of her for me till she was 4,I took her back to Abuja while still in school...

I never gave up,even tho the father was no where in her life till today...at some point I took him to court cos people were like “take him to court for child’s support” but our system is so bleeped up that it favors only the Rich..

He ended up frustrating my life with the help of his lawyer cos I had none, couldn’t afford one,even the lawyer that was helping me for free at some point got tired too...
So we decided to settle out of court,I was not even upto 20
He said he was going to help raise the child on one condition,he stated....

“I will take care of her and rent you guys an apartment but I will be coming there every weekend and leave on Monday “
Which I blatantly refused cos it was just like still married to him..

I took it upon myself to Raise my child with him or without him,I said to myself “how can I be begging someone to take care of his child”

I moved on....during the journey, most times things gets tough that I find it difficult to pay my school fee and that of my child and each time I call him he will tell me to come back that is his only condition before he can help...

I didn’t call him for help again till after 7yrs which was last year which I made sure I put it in voice recording I told him

“your daughter will enter secondary school this year and I’ve been the one paying her school fees since she was born this is the school I found for her and their entrance fee is 600k if we can split the bills you pay half I pay half(even tho I know he’s able to pay the fees with no stress)

He said “he will think about it” (really? Thinking about it to pay your own child’s fees)
After 2days he called back and gave exact same conditions...

I just dropped the call because it’s obvious that after 11years dude is still very Heartless
Through out this years he struggled to get someone like me,all to no avail he’s marrying the 4th if not the 5th wife now

He went as far as going to my kindred to marry someone from the same kindred with me,that bears same name with me all to spite me,that particular marriage is gone and forgotten

Each time I look at my daughter I look at all I’ve been through, she’s my compensation I didn’t gain anything in that marriage but I gained her,I left with nothing but I left with her...

He said I will be frustrated and come back begging,it’s 12 years now I’m yet to be back
I remember when he told me
“you’re too Ambitious”
all because I wanted to go to school

If this incident has not affected me psychologically then I’m lying.

What happened to you,is the consequences of the laziness, laxity and greed of your father, and the greed of your ex. And sadly this greed is too engrained in igbo culture that it affects the ladies too. If it were a poor man that approached your family for marriage, would you yourself have agreed to marry him at that young age?
Even till now, igbo girls are still open to be bought by men, every December they troop to the village for the bazaar of wealth show off and buying of future partners.

I really think it's the VN1, that we are getting...it's the troop carrying variant of our ST1 105mm tank destroyer, so for logistics reason it's a great buy. I just pray they don't put a manual 12.7mm on it, we need something that can touch these terrorist from ranges that their weapons are ineffective and inaccurate. If the army hasn't bought it yet, they should get 2 axis stabilized 30mm remote control platforms, at the long run it's cheaper in terms of human lifes, and equipment boko haram can engage and destroy unless it's an ambush, and even cheaper in the amount of rounds and stopping power needed to neutralise a target.... spending 40* 12.7mm rounds, compared to 6* 30mm rws has to have economies of scale in favour of 30mm rounds in the multiplier effects.

i have ask some source about type 89 afv)most of them say they did not recieve any new afv except for mrap . but promise to give the legit later if true

The only good thing about that type 89, is that I can stop .50 cal bullets nothing else, the army really needs to invest in remote controlled 23mm or 30mm for accuracy and fewer shoots per kill ifv with troop carrying capabilities, not this rubbish they just bought.
