Good evening Petlanders, it's quite a while here. I shall be sharing with us topics discussed on DLW whatsapp group.

I would love us to do research on effective and affordable on ways of improving and maintaining a shiny coats on our friends. Good healthy feeding is the key but the economy is not really helping matters...

Ever since I exhausted my DLW feed which comprises of daily canine needs, I have been researching on alternative means of maintaining shiny coats, expecially on my St. Bernard.
coconut oil and fish oil(both present in DLW feed) are very good too but not quite cheap.

My researches led me to olive oil. I found out the following about the oil and this made me to get some bottles instantly for trials.

Here are the benefits;
1. It smells good and hence a good attractant.

2.it helps to burn off excessive fat

3. It promotes optimal health

Rich in monounsaturated fats, olive oil prevents and lessens the effects of cardiovascular disease and diabetes . It contains oleic acid, in addition to some compounds (squalene and terpenoids) that are believed to be effective in preventing cancer, which kills a staggering 50 percent of dogs over age 10.

4. It defends the immune system

With high levels of antioxidants — including polyphenols, vitamin E, chlorophyll, and carotenoids — olive oil is very effective at arming the body’s immune system so it can efficiently fight off disease.

5. It extends canine longevity

Dogs don’t live nearly as long as we want them to, but nothing looks sadder than a young dog going gray before his time. Olive oil prevents free radical cell oxidation , which can lead to premature aging, so it works to help keep your dog looking as vibrantly youthful as he did in his salad days.

6. It’s a brain food

Olive oil helps prevent the cognitive decline associated with aging in all species, so be sure to serve it to senior dogs at least once daily, to keep their minds beautiful and cloud-free. This is especially important if your dog is a super-smartie, such as a Border Collie, Poodle, or Mensa mutt.

7. It provides an energy boost

Circulation improves and breathing comes more easily with a daily dose of olive oil — it helps increase blood flow and, in humans, lessens the effects of asthma. So, by extension, it can be a dogsend for brachycephalic breeds such as the Bulldog, who sometimes struggle to breathe.

8. It’s also a beauty treatment

There’s more to olive oil than mere substance — it’s a style statement, too! Long used to beautify human hair and skin, olive oil can do the same for canines. Condition your dog’s coat from the inside out with a daily serving, which helps to impart moisture and gleam to even the driest, dullest fur.

9.its cheaper when compared to coconut oil and fish oil.
It's better when added directly to feed i.e after cooking
This is a research discussion and would want us to further on this and make our findings known to the entire house.....

Nice professional advise but ensure the excavation is done at interval eg dig 1m lenght and leave another 1m undug at interval. Once the concrete cures, repeat same process for the undug.

Finally, u can construct a raised blockwall platform 500mm wide by 300mm high(filled with laterite and the top filled with concrete) around the entire building.

Fill all openings/cracks with rich cement motar mix.

I think a differential settlement is the cause of the Crack.

Man, the problem is from the foundation . It won't even stop there ,u will soon notice your window and door frames are also getting slack , your ceiling or PVC or whatever will start separating from the walls and the cracks begins to appear in another part of the wall .


Solution-
Use fillers like cement mix to fill the spaces (might be temporary too)
It could be as bad as trying to introduce a reinforced free standing concrete column if the spacing gets wider

But a long lasting but time consuming solution is what we Architects or engineers call 'underpining' - in simple terms , dig the ground till under d existing foundation (I.e the initial foundation is suspended ) then fill it with concrete, wait till it sets , then cover up .

I use to replace my batteries every 6 months until I carried out a root cause analysis. I noticed that anytime I forget to remove the battery terminal when parked, the battery always get drained. So, one day after parking, I kept observing the car every 10 minutes to investigate the problem. That is when I discovered that the 5 CD changers was just selecting on it own. All I did was to remove the loader and the rest is history.

.1.As a little boy, I had love for pets

2.My grandma got me a hen and my uncle gave me a local dog, named Bingo

3.my pets made me a "homeboy opomulero". Couldn't go far away from home like before.

4. Mum and dad were impressed with my new attitude but worried keeping a dog in a rented apartment

5.few months after, bingo became weak

6. and on close examination ,all I saw were worms burrowing in and out. I was helpless

7.mum got irritated and dad considered it to be a bad omen

8.A refuse collector was asked to dispose my weak bingo.... I cried and cried

9.the memories and pains I kept till 2014

10.initially my wife kicked against the idea. but now, the rest is story

11.i got patra(a Gsd) and
Vera(boerboel) came 2 weeks after, on a Val day

12. I suggested we name her Val but the jealous ladies in my life insisted we call her Vera.

13.Roonie(an adult male GSD from general) joined as an emperor of the tobolos kennel

14.Mabera, the glutton(a St. Bernard) came along

15.Kettie(a black chowchow), joined the family.

16.Suffered an heavy blow when I got 2 lhasa,(smith and golden.)
They stayed for only 2 weeks before death snatched them away.

Looked round for a comforter and I met charlie(2 year old female chowchow)
Charlie came and disappeared after 3 days of arrival... Still yet,I always hear a voice telling me to buy more... I am bewitched by a dog spirit

@Tobolos, pls may i know what you're referring to as 'daily grooming' and what alternative did u proffer?

daily cleaning up cos she is so messy that she could sit on her poo and eating plate. All I did was to construct a cage with mesh at the bottom and placed 2 nos sawed 1 by 12 planks(600mm) by one side as a smooth platform for her to rest on. Underneath the mesh is an attached tray that collects all the poos and urine.

good to know you have also added a St.B,a lovely dog but be ready for a daily grooming. That was all i do daily until I designed and fabricated a cage for her.

I recently gave out the king of the pack(you all remember roonie, adult Gsd from generalj1) and the entire house looked like a graveyard. My kids cried and queried why I gave out their best dogs. I reminded them they still have vera(boerboel), patra(GSD) and newly born pups to keep their company but all that pleads were rebuffed.
I inquired what my first son of 7 years want as a replacement and surprisingly, he mentioned a chowchow.
I dropped the call and started during underground research on the breed cos I never thought of having one in years to come. I called an importer
/breeder to work out the plan and within 48 hrs the deal was done.
Now, this black babe is home and has taken over the entire house.
I don't need to tell you how the reception is like with other dogs. I believe they will get over it and finally admit her into the pack.

My kids can't thank me enough for the quick action. The youngest again asked me " but daddy, where is roonie"? I stylishly covered up and dropped the call.

The entire family is now being faced with the problem of adopting an acceptable name. We may just call her black chowchow if the entire house refuse to say 'i
