If you don't respond to greetings from unknown numbers, that's your business. No one cares. And this is not the case. When you drop your contact because you're looking for a job, you don't turn around and tell your interviewer or whoever that they shouldn't have contacted you through that same contact you made available to them, neither do you blame them for greeting you first or not. If you can't respond to greetings, I hope you keep that same energy through out your life. It's your business.

Reason why he called her name after saying "good evening". Common sense will let you know that it's someone who probably knows you that's texting you.

If you think someone must introduce himself and all that before you respond to a simple "good evening" that's your own attitude and it's your choice. That's why I said you are not different from the Mary, only that the Mary is dumb.

Greeting someone first and answering back won't kill you. It's not as if the person won't introduce his/herself later on.

I work in a customer service team in a bank and once we place a call to customers, we first introduce ourselves before confirming the name and identity of whoever we're speaking with, so your above statement isn't valid.

I personally do not answer whatsapp greetings from an unknown number until after they introduce themselves. I'd just read your 'Hi' and 'hello' and ignore you till you have sense and introduce yourself. I don't even want to care who you are.

I think Emmanuel is more wrong, no proper structured company send messages like over WhatsApp, it must in an official mail, it already tells that its a small company, also introduce yourself. Playing Devil's advocate, it's normal for ladies to have intrusive messages or even fraudulent messages or insistent toasters.
On Mary's side, when engaging with anyone you should always be professional and courteous. You never know who you might be chatting or talking with. It causes nothing to ask sorry who am I speaking with ? and if it doesn't go that far as you want, don't reply. Someone with that type of attitude especially with poor spelling.
