Business / Re: Aliko Dangote Is $2.5 Billion Richer Than Oprah Winfrey by Tokorie: 1:59pm On Sep 13, 2007
I have seen the forbes list and the Forbes Africa List I have still not seen Aliko Dangote's name on any of the lists. Where did you all get your information from? Some Nigerian media? Or where? I mean the Forbes list is of Billionaires around the world, right? and if Aliko is supposedly higher than Oprah, why is he not on the Forbes lists I have seen so far? Or am I missing something here??

Kids do in a way have buying power in the world we live in today. With Companies like toy companies like Matel, and even tech businesses as well as food and clothing companies banking on this. We have today more parents than ever who want to PLEASE their kids and if you can get the kids in on your side, you have the parents and what better way than to use a medium such as this one which can at the same time be used to educate the kids, entertain them as well as introduce them to products out there that may be available for them. By the way, I am an adult and I still watch Cartoons. Heck , did anyone of you go see the TRANSFORMERS movie that came out this summer? or even the Spiderman movies?? Most all those started off as cartoons but where watched mostly by adults. There is a HUGE MARKET HERE and it is largely untapped.

Actually, I have had an idea like that for a while now myself and I believe it is a great idea. Now the Channel can start off showing already available programs from all african countries and then basically narrow down to just nigerian cartoons as they become available actually. All you need to do in this wonderful world we live in is have the channel available and producers who have cartoons and others available that fit the stations need will apply to have their programs air on it. Heck, they can even get their own sponsors and such.

Dude, if you ever think of going forward with the plan, please keep me informed as I am all in to such an idea. There are so many african stories that are yet to be told and this could be a great way to get them told to toon enthusiasts out there, also encouraging toonists and kids to get into the industry.

Look My2Cents,

Let me break it down like this to you. I know a couple of high school students who can design and build a website 100 times better than that one. I am sorry that those "Professionals" have over 23 years under their belt and all but that site SUCKS and worse for WAEC site, it is HORRIBLE and you can quote me on that anyday. Claiming you have so many years of experience and giving me that and even the companies own site for show of all that so called experience is just not selling anything good. I am sorry but it is the truth. Infact I can make the same claim for majority of the Nigerian government sites.

My BEST advice to you is to go for the one you have "REAL" passion for. It is one thing to make money in IT but if you really want to select a career in IT, you are best choosing an area you really have a zeal for, that way you actually are better able to handle all the continued work you would need to do to keep up. There are so many IT folks out there who got in cause it was the "IN THING" a while back and when the bubble burst, they found themselves thrown out cause they could not keep up with the changes that were needed to remain competitive in the sector.

Pick up a book or two on NETWORKING and even on PROGRAMMING and kind of spend sometime getting into each and then you can better decide which area better suites you. To be honest, which ever you decide is the one you have greater passion for is the one that I would say is BETTER for you. I mean it is possible to make a lot of money in coding but if you are not passionate about coding , you will not make it. Same with Networking.

I have to say it but that Freshair site does not look good. I don't get it, what happened to decent designing? I mean even government sites look ridiculously silly. Are we really that design challenged in Nigeria? I am sorry it may seem harsh but I got to be honest, most of the nigerian sites or sites created by persons from nigeria suck

I would agree with the other dude, There are more jobs in the .NET and Java areas than there are in the DataBase Admin sect. But if you choose to pursue a career in .NET or in Java, I would add that you focus more on the Web side of the whole. Microsoft has moved it's .NET platform more to accomodate web development. Infact, you can deal more in Web development cause the same knowledge you obtain from that you can easily apply should you need to develop software in the future. But the main thing about Web Development in those areas is that you are more exposed to other programs that may come in real handy.
