That also explains easier ON-NET text messages (e.g. Glo2glo and so on).

So overall, CELTEL's call rates are higher than those of other networks when it look at it statistically. Check the call rates of Celtel, Glo and MTN on each of their websites compair them with an analytical, statistical and mathematical mind to see Celtel is the most expensive! Besides, for now, CELTEL has the smallest suscriber group of the 3 of about 7 million people with GLO and MTN having over 12 million and 14 million people respectively!

Is it true that the minimum transaction which one can make with Celtel's Me2u is 1000 Naira? Glo started it all with 'Glo Me2u'. Later, MTN changed d name to 'MTN Sell and Share'. Celtel simply came out with Celtel's Me2u.

That's good news! I hope that will further increase the competition in Naija's telecom industry and drive down general tariffs. The $400 Million also means the net worth of Nigeria's telecom industry has increased compared to 2001 where MTN and Econet paid $285 Million and Glo paid $200 Million for their license. This has come in a good time to challenge Trancorp's Mtel as well or what do you think?

I know that I'm young and all that but this case is a very simple one. Even Jesus said in Matthew 5: 27-28 claims that mere looking at a lady/man lustfully in the heart or mind is already adultery (fornication) in itself. Here, Jesus did not say except the person is a fiance or fiancee. So what are we talking about. It's a very simple and direct topic. Grammatical or no grammatical historical crap, an average person all over the world knows what fornication is and it simply means 'Sex outside the matrimonial boundary' and God doesn't want that. End of subject. 'File', Don't touch it.

Whether or not premarital sex and fornication are different, they are both wrong and unacceptable in God's sight. God has never and will never lower his standards to make man happy.

Glo for life! They are the most innovative and have the most advanced network and will even be better as soon as NCC allows them to migrate to 3G.

I DO NOT WORK AT GLO! Generally, I love ICT and related stuff. I'm only a fan of the company and I share its visions and appreciate all it has achieved even though it came two years later than other operators. It has really transformed the industry and I think its only close rival is MTN, it has passed Celtel a long time ago.  I know people who work there but I don't. I just finished secondary school in July and will be resuming at a University any moment now.

As for the drop in calls, it's something that happens in every network. Don't forget they are migrating to 3G, so they may even be changing or working on some of the base stations. When calls drop, you should try to identify the fault carefully. It could be from the other party's network if you notice you still have full bars after the drop, or it could be from your network if you notice empty bars or bars that are just coming up, or it could be due to poor strength of either parties handset to hold on to the signal well enough (either due to low battery or just a poor quality handset). So, that could be the reason for the fluctuation in the quality of service, at least you confirmed it was not like that before. It will soon stop sha! Besides what part of Lagos did you notice that?

As for the whole Adenuga issue, I think it's all political. Just as the issue exploded fast, that's how fast it will die. I heard sometime ago that Adenuga is already back into the country and nothing has happened to him. So all these big men know how to settle their issues. Politics affects every sector of any economy one way or another. Many big men in the society stole money. I am not supporting him, but a least he has invested his in this country. His companies are usually one of the highest paying in the industry. He is empowering Nigerians when you consider how many people his company employs. About EFCC's allegation about the ownership of Glo, a school of thought believes that it's because Obj is angry with Adenuga for two reasons:
1) For not supporting 3rd term and
2) For not fully participating in Transcorp like Dangote, Onyuike-Okereke(Director General of the Nigerian Stock exchange), Otedola, etc. He was ready to give them money but not participate fully. I'm sure you must have heard of the about the claim that Obasanjo Holdings Limited owned 200 million units of Transcorp shares. I want to believe that because EFCC did not think of questioning Adenuga, Dangote and others when they where donating hundreds of millions of Dollars money towards Obasanjo's private Library Project,  What do you think? What do you think of Obj-Atiku saga? It's all part of Nigeria's dirty politics. Personally, I think Transcorp may fail if care is not taken because it's too political. To many rich men from different sectors all coming together. Don't forget that all these people have different orientations about handling a business so quarrels may come up here and there. Even Obj who is part of them may want to use his dictatorship attitude in business like he is doing in a democratic dispensation. EFCC may just be Obj's puppet either completely or to an extent.

I agree with you that the emergence of Glo Mobile into the telecommunications industry has really changed the industry a lot, especially the GSM Arena. However, as regards the Midnight calls and difficulty in making calls, I think I agree with the fact that it has to do with high traffic levels for the following reasons.

You might want to argue that the volume of traffic during the day exceeds that of the night. If you said that a year a go, I'll definitely agree, but for as long as the free calls promo exists, I'll say no. Remember that during the day, many calls are made for SHORT or BRIEF periods. So as soon as some people stop talking, others are starting. So the rhythm of call initiation and call termination are more or less BALANCED. But, at night, there is no balance, because all the call initiations are starting almost at once (12 midnight), so while those who start early are able to get calls thru, oda's have to wait for someone to end a call or loose the call due to signal drop or any other reason for another person to get through for a call.

Also, your location matters a lot. Someone staying on any university campus should not expect to make calls easily at that period since almost the whole campus will be awake and trying to do the same thing. There may be only a single base station or mast in that kind of area which will be over loaded with traffic. Don't forget that these equipment have their maximum capacity.

When comparing the ease to make calls easily within MTN or Glo, consider these. Recent statistical figures have proved MTN and Glo are very close in terms of number of subscribers. Furthermore, MTN should have more businessmen or executives on board its network because of its corporate figure, so most executives will not care about free calls not to talk of using them. On the other hand, Glo has more youths on its network (if I'm right), so more of its subscribers will be jostling to make calls.

You may also consider the fact that on Glo, even with 0.0 Naira balance, you can make free calls while with MTN, one needs a minimum of 100 Naira to make free calls at night. Glo or Mtn has no reason to stop calls from going thru cos they are intra network calls and it doesn't cost them a thing. You may notice that calls with the network are difficult while those to other networks are quite easy. I should think that's because intra and inter network calls pass thru different channels. So while one is completely free the other is completely busy.

Glo is ready for 3G rollout which its partners, Alcatel have already tested in Nigeria. They are only waiting for the Nigeria Communications Commission to approve their 3G rollout. With the combination of their 3G technology and the completed phases of their fibre optic cable backbone (Glo Express), network congestion should really be reduced within the network and probably, outside the network. I said 'probably' outside the network because the ability of a network to terminate calls into another network depends on the number of E1's of the network to be terminated on. So, initially when Glo started and where not able to easily terminate calls with MTN and former VMobile, but MTN and Vmobile were able to terminate calls easily into Glo's network, it was not necessarily Glo's fault but the other networks who MAY or may not have conspired to make business difficult for the new entrant by not releasing sufficient number if E1s for the new network. But since Glo opened up enough E1's, the other two could reach the network with ease. Thank God all that interconnect issues are over now.

As for difficulty in getting thru to Customer Care, I think I want to blame NCC for that because they were the ones who forced all networks not to charge customers for customer care calls. When MTN and Glo charged a fixed charge of 25 and 20 Naira respectively, it was for a reason. To make sure ppl had real or serious probs b4 calling. Even when they charged, I have heard of some ppl who called just to have a chat, not to talk of now that it is completely free.

I'm not in banking or anything, but I'm not surprised that Mike Adenuga's ETB is the highest according to what most people have said so far. Even Glo Mobile seems to be the highest in the GSM arena, but when it comes to work load, I can't say precisely how the situation is. Personally, I think as an employer, if I pay you the highest in the industry, you should be able to work to meet that standard, or else, you'll be fired! I mean, what's the point of keeping such a staff when someone working in another company with a lower salary is working harder.

I think the station may be the former SUPER SCREEN TELEVISION. They are on UHF 65. I think they are only trying to come out a fresh probably due to change of management or ownership, rebranding to ensure a better acceptance level to the general public or probably for other reasons.

That's one Nigerian film out of so many that I'm proud of especially with the attention it has gained in the international scene. I hope the film will be a challenge for other film makers in the industry. Nigeria's music industry has gone through a lot of improvement lately so it's good for the film industry to grow as well. Has the fate of this country, Nigeria become 'Trial and Error'. If so, it is very sad.

As a student who just finished secondary school in June and started an Internship programme in an organisation in V/I pending the time I resume in the University, I was unaware of how bad things were about phone theft. A lady with a baby on her back sat to my left while an 'Old Man' with a red face cap sat at my right. (Should be between 40 to 50 plus in age because he looked elderly in appearance.)

As the journey commenced, the old man dropped his money on the floor of the bus. They were quite scattered. I wanted to help him, but he bent as fast as he dropped them to pick them up. He did that for a while and he got down at a junction before we got to Obalende.

When we got to Obalende, I tapped as usual but felt only my wallet. I went back into the bus to check for my phone. It was gone! A woman gave me her phone to dial the number, the line just rang and it occured to me that I left it on vibration mode. The woman with the baby then reminded me off the old man who bent to pick his money, then it all clicked!

I know that Transcorp has money and all that, but it'll take a lot of time and money to eventually transform NITEL and it's mobile arm, Mtel.

I think it's 5 Naira to sent text messages from glo to glo (that's after your free glo2glo monthly bonus is finished). International texts and texts to other networks remains 15 Naira. All the conditions I stated initially applies to whoever migrates to the Classic Plus package. The initial migration is FREE but subsequent ones back to Classic or any other package may not be free. To move to Classic plus there is an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) service for that. Just dial 125 and listen to the voice prompts. As for international calls, all I know is that it will be cheaper whether per minute or per second billing plan. Check their website for more details or wait for their newspaper adverts to come out concerning the new packages.

Thank God, at least some operators have been making plans to move to 3G especially Glo (through Alcatel)

Glo is bringing out new prepaid packages in addition to the presently existing prepaid Classic and Premium. They are Classic Plus and Easy Talk. Classic Plus is similar to the standard package while Easy Talk is similar to prepaid Premium for people with longer talk time in a month. One can migrate from tomorrow, Wednesday 11th October, 2006. Initial migration to any of the packages is free but subsequent migrations may not be free. Thanks a lot! It's good to know there are people knowledgeable about these things. I think the name of the virus is quite different though.

Recently, my cousin's mobile phone got a virus. It came as an MMS from someone else. When ever she tries to send a text message, the fone will disguise an MMS along which will also pass the virus along once the reciever opens-up the MMS! My cousin has taken the fone to I-Cell but I'm not sure whether or not it's repaired and if after repair, the fones information will be lost. The Virus even has a name it displays which I can't remember for now.

Is there any kind of firewall or anti-virus software available to mobile fones, for protection, since they have the tendency to get infected like computers when used for Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) based applications?

So far, the name and management of the present Celtel Nigeria (originally registered as Econet Wireless) has had three transitions since its inception in 2001. Let's hope this one is the last one at least for the next couple of years.

I believe this could have affected the growth and stability of the company when compared to its rivals in the telecoms industry. For example, MTN which it started with has long overtaken it in terms of the number of suscribers and national coverage. Glo Mobile which came into the market two years after Econet (Now Celtel) now longer sees it as a rival rather concentrates on MTN. From my latest enquiries, MTN and Glo Mobile have about 9.4 and 9.3 Million suscribers respectively while Celtel is lagging behind these two contenders.
