Gumboro Disease, also known as Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), is one of the most "wicked disease" that can affect chickens. This disease has given so many farmers hypertension as they watch their whole investment vanish like smoke right in front of their eyes!!! Gumboro is caused by a virus and it affects mostly young birds usually between the ages of 3 weeks to 6 weeks. This disease is usually transmitted via ingestion of contaminated water, feed, faeces and litter

SYMPTOMS
Loss of appetite
Weakness
Dullness
Rough feathers
Diarrhea may be white/yellowish white
Sudden death

NOTE: If you suspect Gumboro, open up the dead chicken, if you see blood like stains on the thigh/chest muscle or you see blood patches inside the stomach close to gizzard, then you are likely dealing with Gumboro.

MANAGEMENT
Gumboro has no cure and it is usually 50/50 once there is an outbreak. Hence our focus will be on prevention although palliative treatment will also be discussed

PREVENTION
Routine vaccination using original branded vaccines under the supervision of an expert

Proper farm hygiene and regular cleaning of the litter with strong disinfectant/Formalin/Bleach

High level of farm biosecurity

TREATMENT
Immediate isolation of suspected birds from the seemingly healthy birds

The farm should be depopulated, and thoroughly decontaminated alongside its tools and equipment with a very strong disinfectant like hypochlorite bleach or formalin based disinfectant and then allowed to dry before being reintroduced to the farm

Administer any strong like tetracycline based broad spectrum antibiotics examples Oxy100® MS-Neoxyvit ® Doxygen® etc or any Ofloxacin(fluoroquinolones) based antibiotics like Enro-Colivet® etc to treat secondary bacterial infection alongside multivitamins to boost their immune system. You can specifically add Vitamin C to boost recovery and immune system

Antiviral drugs like Virucine® can also be administered but its effectiveness is debatable

Traditionally, Aloe vera has been reported to be effective but its palatability is an issue.

NOTE: DURING OUTBREAK OF GUMBORO DISEASE NEVER ATTEMPT TO ADMINISTER GUMBORO VACCINE. A VACCINE IS NOT A DRUG FOR TREATMENT, RATHER IT IS FOR PREVENTION

My Rav4 2gr V6 2008 model had a gear issue in the year 2021, took to a mecho and he adviced I changed to 10pin that fixing a 13pin is not reliable which he did without it's brain box .

It worked but always make sound at reverse ,a year after i took it back to the gear mecho when the car develop another gear slack. I paid again for another repair and back on the road.

Sadly again, December last year 2023,the gear didn't enter reverse again and will make noise . I took it to another gear mech not the previous one due to his no whereabout and the new idiot couldn't fix it . He changed everything in the brainbox and lo the gear didn't enter drive nor reverse anymore .

He ran and left the car like that since then . Now, I want to change the gear instead and the gear seller is saying I shouldn't buy 13pin again but 10pin again with brain box now.

I need help and advice from the car gurus here , please help a sister out as I am tired and don't want to waste my hard saved money not in this bad economy. 13pin or 10pin with brainbox and with reasons.

From my experience and point of view ,the child may not be sick prior the sad day .The beating may be the push to what killed him .

I remember a day like that .Got to my kids school to pick them but met them in a situation,a boy fell and blood was coming out from his head.I was told it was my son that was running outside who mistakenly pushed the wounded boy .

My boy in his defence said no, that the wounded boy was playing rough with another boy which led to the fall but some of their classmates said it's my boy and right there my boy started crying that they lied.

I wake 6am all day and used to reach home after 11pm. I sleep little and work all day. No social life like that of OP.. But now I have workers and they earn very well from me.

I have been doing some thinking lately about my personality .I am a talkative introvert,the chattiest person you will love talk to,a very smart person ,fast thinker ,intelligent ,beautiful ,God fearing ,I most times lose energy when i deal with the outward world.

I am usually happy when i'm alone or with a small, quiet group of like-minded people. It has little to do with fear of others. It has everything to do with emotional energy.I don't like being in a crowd as I hate noise .

I love seeing everything properly done and well arranged .I don't like it when people spoil roads,or drop refuse anyhow thereby causing environmental degradation.I remember when we moved to our new area,d road was bad due to erosion and poor drainage system.I took it upon myself to fix the road as I love anything good .Reached out to some neighbors to join hands to fix d road ,some said no that I should leave it like that ,few contributed and to the glory of God it was a success! The success earned me a new name ' mama engineer ' in the community .

Recently ,I noticed an unlawful � dumping of refuse in a particular place which is making the whole place stinking and dirty �. One day ,I stopped one man from doing the acts as it is not good .We can all be a good citizen from our locals .

I love talking ,counselling people as some people see me as a wise person .The main reason for this epistle is that I am trying to solve a puzzle to know the kind of profession fits my being .

I am graduate ,chemistry as a major ,worked in one of the biggest commercial banks, handled building projects for some folks with good results ,started a business ( my shop attendant ruined it the first time ) ,moved to my house and continue the business there( provisions and foodstuffs) so I can have enough time to monitor it and for my children .Now,a competitor came ( an envious neigbor that will do anything to have my lifestyle ) thereby affecting my business now .(She's spoiling d business by selling at a ridiculous price just to get all d customer to her end ).I am tired !

I am good and hubby loves to consult from me before doing anything .But ,I have fears ,fear of failing ,fear of unknown and fear of not trying at all.My hubby is my push and won't stop at anything to push me to greater height .He recently proposed I apply for a student visa in canada � to step ahead ,study and be the greatest .

Yesterday was a tough day for me but as a full blooded naija man exposed to hard life from childhood, I immediately found a solution for the problem.

Let me make it brief.

While I'm working hard so to get a job and beat poverty, I'm also praying fervently for God's mercy in my life because a single fame from Him can bury all the years of shame.

I'm seriously in need of a job and so I applied for a vacancy I was in the know. I was called for interview yesterday. The transport fare wasn't even enough but I managed to gather what could take me to and fro. Dressed in corporate, I went. All I had with me was N800 including my feeding. So I spent N400 for food, paid tfare N200 to get to the venue and N200 left for my fro. How the remaining N200 lost in my pocket, I can't tell till now. Can't even tell if a fellow applicant pilfered me.

After the interview, that was when I realized I was without a penny. I searched everything to find the missing N200 but to no avail. I almost cried because of how important the money was (pray against every spirit of poverty). Having not seen,

I approached the first two guys for help but they shunned me. Naturally I don't like begging. I prefer to die in silence than begging openly cos I feel very bad if turned down. After the first two guys snubbed me, as a true Nigerian and full blooded 'kpako', and sportive in appearance, something struck me. Immediately, I folded my trouser upward and to add comic to it, I left the tie still on my neck and in no time, I was on the road jogging and heading back home at around 2-3 pm with my file in my hands.

People were looking and in surprise over the unusual jogging dress. That was how I jogged on major roads and short cuts till I reached house. I can't really quantify the total distance but it is something over 10km. As I reached house, I freshened up immediately even though nothing to eat, I found Garri and sipped. Life goes on!

My prayer: may I make it in this life, Amen.

People, in all you do, work hard and pray against poverty. It is not something to wish even your worst enemy.

Meanwhile, the interview ended on 'we'll get back to you". I'm still waiting for them.
