Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Tolu1034(m): 1:23pm On Feb 29
Hello everyone. I recently got admitted to a college in Alberta for a post graduate diploma program in software development. I already accepted the admission and paid the initial deposit and I'm about to apply for my study permit . The problem is I don't know how go about my POF which is over 40k CAD.

I want to secure a loan for this but I'm not sure if this will work because from my research I found that it's good for the money to have been in my account for at least 4 months or it might affect the visa approval. I can only afford to pay the loan interest for a period of 1 month and I don't have enough time because resumption is September 3.

My plan is to apply by March as soon as I get provincial attention. I will appreciate guidance on how to go about this.

General Idi Amin of Uganda:

General Idi Amin was born in 1925 in Koboko, Uganda and came into power through a military coup in 1971. His tyrant rule of eight years earned him the nickname “The Butcher of Uganda” because of his brutality. He used his killer squad to murder his opponents and their families. Due to the brutality of his regime, the United Kingdom broke off diplomatic relations with Uganda in 1977 and he declared he had defeated the British. He went on to confer on himself the following titles “His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular.”According to Amnesty International, Idi Amin was responsible for the death of 500,000 people during his rule. He engaged in ethnic purging of the Acholi and Lango people throughout Uganda and in his own army, as he was constantly paranoid about being overthrown.

General Sani Abacha of Nigeria: General Sanni Abacha might have been in power for only five years but he left his dictator mark on the country. He ruled the nation with impunity and declared his government above the law. Of his notorious crimes, he is famous for the looting of about five billion dollars stolen funds, and the 1995 killing of political and environmental activist Ken Saro Wiwa. He was believed to have participated fully in the July 1966 countercoup that lead to the death of the head of state, Major-Gen. Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi and subsequently lead to civil war. His regime is also regarded as one of the most brutal in Nigeria’s history and he was considered “a man of few words and deadly actions.” In 2004 he was listed as the fourth most corrupt leader in history by Forbes.

Charles Taylor of Liberia: He was the president of Liberia for six years serving from 1997 to 2004 and his campaign slogan ran “He killed my ma, he killed my pa, but I will vote for him.” In 1989, Taylor led an uprising from Côte d’Ivoire into Liberia, beginning a seven- year civil war that killed 200,000 people. He was the cause of many Liberian civil war and deaths of innocent citizens. He and his followers used rape as a weapon and took the innocence of many young girls. Taylor was accused of aiding rebels fighting in the Sierra Leone Civil War during the 1990s by trading weapons for diamonds. He recruited child soldiers and encouraged his followers to cut off the hands of people so they cannot rebel against him and together they caught of the limbs of several innocent people including babies and toddlers. He lost power in Liberia following a second civil war, and he has been sentenced to fifty years in jail by an international war crimes court. Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe: Robert Mugabe is 87 years old and one of the oldest dictators alive in Africa and he continues to terrorize his countrymen. He has been in power since 1980 and believes in democracy while oppressing the people of Zimbabwe. He is considered a racist as he has an aversion to white people and he uses his anti-west propaganda to commit most of his crimes. He chased the white people out of his country and took away their properties including their lands. He gave the lands to his immediate relatives and friends while the people continue to suffer. He has killed countless number of people and continues to do so and the west considers him one of Africa’s worst dictators.

Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir of Sudan: Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir is the president of Sudan since 1993 and he is behind the death of 500,000 people murdered in Darfur between 2003-2009 in which babies and toddlers were not spared. He planned to commit genocide against several ethnic groups such as the Massalit and Zaghawa groups. He sponsors terrorists groups with oil money and is currently declared a war criminal and a wanted man by the United Nations. He has been charged with several crimes against humanity and is considered one of Africa’s worst dictators ever. Ahmed Sekou Toure of Guinea: Born on January 9, 1922, Ahmed Sekou Toure was elected the first President of Guinea and served from 1958 to his death. In 1960 he declared his Parti democratique de Guinee (PDG) the only legal party in the state and ruled as a dictator. He imprisoned or exiled his strongest opposition leaders. First seen as a messiah by the people, he quickly became a ruthless dictator. Many people fled the country to avoid the death camps established during his rule. His presidency was based on Marxism and Toure directed waves of arrests, detentions, and some executions of known and suspected opposition leaders in Guinea. According to Amnesty International 4,000 persons on Guinea were detained for political reasons, with the fate of 2,900 unknown. As a result of mass graves found in 2002, some 50,000 people are believed to have been killed under the regime of Touré in concentration camps such as Camp Boiro. Toure died on 26 March 1984 while undergoing cardiac treatment at Cleaveland Clinic in Ohio.

Jean-Bedel Bokassa of Central African Republic: Jean Bedel Bokassa came into power following a coup that saw him deposing his cousin and taking control of the country on New Year’s Eve in 1965. The tenure of Jean Bedel Bokassa as a military ruler of Central African Republic from 1976 to 1979 saw him destroying the lives of innocent people as well as opposition leaders. He named himself president for life in 1972 and emperor in 1976. He declared a monarchy and his coronation ceremony is estimated to be around $20 million which was one third of the country’s budget for the year. He spent lavishly while in power and in 1979, his troops massacred civilians who were rioting over food prices in Bangui, and he later killed 100 schoolchildren who refused to purchase expensive uniforms bearing his image. Bokassa allegedly beat children with his cane during the protest. The backlash from the incident forced Bokassa into exile and out of power. He was also a cannibal who ate the flesh of his enemies including the flesh of the opposition leaders he killed and he was referred to as “The Butcher of Bangui.”
Crime / 8 Most Notorious Criminals In American History by Tolu1034(m): 10:53pm On Nov 08, 2016
1. Al Capone Infamous American crime czar Al “Scarface” Capone was once king of the Chicago rackets. A Prohibition-era gangster, he ruled a multimillion-dollar empire in the 1920s that was fueled by illegal booze, gambling and prostitution. Capone is also suspected of being the mastermind behind the 1929 Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre in Lincoln Park that left seven of his enemies dead. Capone’s reign as ruler of Chicago’s gangland ended in 1931 when he pleaded guilty to tax evasion and prohibition charges. After serving seven years and six months in federal prison, which included a stay at Alcatraz, Capone was paroled on Nov. 16, 1939. By that time, however, he suffered from paresis derived from syphilis. Capone went into seclusion at an estate near Miami, Fla., where he died of a stroke and pneumonia on Jan. 25, 1947. Charles Manson in 1986.

2. Charles Manson Charles Manson was leader of the Manson Family, a quasi- commune that he formed in California in the late 1960s. Manson believed in an impending apocalyptic race war, which he termed “Helter Skelter.” He orchestrated a series of gruesome murders on consecutive nights in an effort to help precipitate the race war. In 1969, Manson and his followers were convicted in the slaying of actress Sharon Tate and several others. Initially sentenced to death, Manson’s sentence was later commuted to life in prison. Manson was denied parole for the 12th time in April 2012. Theodore Kaczynski in a photo taken on April 4, 1996.

3. Ted Kaczynski Authorities accused Ted Kaczynski of being the domestic terrorist responsible for more than a dozen bomb attacks in multiple states between 1978 and 1995 that killed three people and injured 23 others. The attacker, who called for the “destruction of the worldwide industrial system,” was dubbed the Unabomber because many of his early targets worked at universities and airlines. Investigators zeroed in on Kaczynski after his brother, David Kaczynski, informed the FBI that a manifesto attributed to the Unabomber appearing in The New York Times and The Washington Post was similar to papers his brother had written. Ted Kaczynski was ultimately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Tom Horn was executed on Nov. 20, 1903.

4. Tom Horn Tom Horn was a man of many hats. He was an Army scout, a lawman, an assassin and an outlaw. His name may not be as well-known as that of Billy the Kid or Jesse James, but he was certainly one of the most cold-blooded killers of the Wild West. During the late 1880s, Horn worked for the Pinkerton Detective Agency as a bounty hunter. While he initially seemed like a good fit, his capacity for violence did not go unnoticed. In 1894, he was forced to resign after he was linked to 17 murders. Stripped of his badge, Horn became a killer-for-hire. His typical target was cattle rustlers and he is believed responsible for the deaths of at least 20 rustlers. In 1901, Horn was linked to the murder of 14-year-old Willie Nickell. The teen was the son of a rancher. Horn’s guilt remains a subject of debate for historians. Regardless of his level of responsibility, Horn was executed by hanging in Cheyenne, Wyo., on November 20, 1903, the day before his 43rd birthday. Undated photo of Adam Lanza released April 3, 2013.

5. Adam Lanza Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old recluse from Connecticut, brought terror to Newtown’s Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012. The troubled young man, armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun, entered the school and fired 154 shots in a span of about five minutes. In the aftermath, 20 first-graders and six educators were left dead. Lanza then took his own life. It was not until later that day that authorities discovered an additional casualty — Lanza’s mother, Nancy. He had killed her in their Newtown home prior to the school shooting.

6. Andrew Kehoe The deadliest mass murder at a U.S. elementary school occurred in Bath Township, Michigan, in 1927. Andrew Kehoe, a 55-year-old school board treasurer and farmer, was supposedly angry about his financial troubles and his defeat in an election for township clerk. On May 18, 1927, Kehoe used timed detonators to trigger several incendiary devices he had planted inside Bath Consolidated School. The resulting explosion destroyed much of the school and claimed the lives of 43 people, including 38 children. Kehoe took his own life by detonating dynamite in his truck. Prior to the bombing, Kehoe had killed his wife and set off incendiary devices at his farm, destroying his home and all the buildings. In the aftermath, investigators found a wooden sign Kehoe had apparently wired to a fence on his farm that read, “Criminals are made, not born.”

7. John Wayne Gacy John Wayne Gacy was convicted of murdering 33 young men and boys between 1972 and 1978. Most of the bodies were found buried underneath the crawl space of his Chicago-area home. At the time of his arrest, Gacy claimed he was responsible for at least 45 murders. Gacy was given the nickname “The Killer Clown,” because he sometimes adopted the persona of “Pogo the Clown” and participated in charity fundraising events. He was ultimately sentenced to death and executed at the Stateville Correctional Center in 1994 by lethal injection. His notorious last words: “Kiss my ass.”

8. Ted Bundy In the 1970s, Ted Bundy had a bright future in the Washington State Republican Party; instead, he became one of the most famous serial killers and necrophiliacs in U.S. history. He often deceived his victims, all women, into thinking that he was injured and in need of help before attacking them. In 1976, he was arrested for an attempted kidnapping, but while acting as his own lawyer, he escaped. He migrated to Florida, where he killed two women in a Florida State University sorority house and 12-year-old Kimberly Diane Leach. He was convicted of those murders and, while on death row in 1989, he confessed to 50 other murders. The true total remains unknown. Bundy died in the electric chair at Raiford Prison in Starke, Fla., on Jan. 24, 1989.
Culture / 5 Bizzare Traditions From Around The World by Tolu1034(m): 8:45pm On Nov 08, 2016
1. Hindu Thaipusam Festival Piercings During the celebration of the religious holiday Thaipusam, Hindus declare their devotion to Lord Murugan by piercing various parts of their bodies. It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar. In Tamil Nadu, they celebrate their devotion to the birth of Lord Murugan and his killing of Soorapadman, a vengeful spirit, with a spear. They do this with painful piercings around the body, including the tongue. Over time, the rituals have become more dramatic, colorful, and bloody, with large spears and hooks through the chest and face – some devotees even pull large wagons with ropes attached to their bloody backs.

2. La Tomatina The biggest tomato fight in the world. La Tomatina, the annual Tomato Throwing Festival, held in the Valencian town of Buñol, Spain. It is held on the last Wednesday of August, during the week of festivities of Buñol. The participants throw tomatoes and get involved in this tomato fight purely for fun. There are many theories about Tomatina. In 1945, during a parade of gigantes y cabezudos, young adults who wanted to be in the event staged a brawl in town’s main square, the Plaza del Pueblo. There was a vegetable stand nearby, so they picked up tomatoes and used them as weapons. The police had to intervene to break up the fight and forced those responsible to pay the damages incurred. This is the most popular of many theories about how the Tomatina started.

3. Bullet Ant Gloves The most painful Initiation Ritual – For the Satere- Mawe tribe of the Amazon, you can’t become a man if you don’t take part in this ritual. When a young boy becomes sexually mature he goes out into the jungle with the Medicine man and other boys his age to find and gather bullet ants. The insect with the most painful sting in the world. The sting from these ants has been compared to a bullet hitting the flesh. The boys will gather the ants and the ants are then drugged by some herbs given to them by the Medicine Man. Later, while the ants are sleeping in their drug induced state, they are placed into a woven mesh glove with the stinger on the inside. When the ants wake up they find themselves trapped and become very angry and aggressive. The boys must put on the gloves and keep them on for about ten minutes while they do a dance to take their mind off the pain. However the young men of the Satere-Mawe tribe must endure this pain 20 times before they can prove they are men.

4.Burial Ritual Yanomami Funeral rituals for dead relatives is very important inYanomami tribe (Venezuela and Brazil), the people of this tribe want to to ensure peace for the souls of dead person. When a Yanomami dies, his body is burned. The ash and bone powder is mix into a plantain soup. His people then drinks the plantain soup consisting of the dead person’s ash and bone. They believe that by ingesting the remains of a love one, his spirit will live within them forever. Every body must be cremated, because the Yanomami think that leaving a dead body to decay is horrifying. In addition, the soul will be unhappy if he couldn’t find a resting place in the bodies of his loved ones. A dead body must be dispose of as soon as possible, because the soul may come back and haunt the remaining ones.

5. Tooth Filing One of the biggest Hindu religious ceremonies, Tooth Filling. The ceremony is of great importance in the Balinese culture and is a significant in the passage from puberty to adulthood. This ritual is for both males and females and must be completed before marriage; it is sometimes incorporated into the marriage ceremony. This ceremony is executed by smoothing down tooth and eye-tooth. In Hindu Balinese belief system, this celebration helps people to free themselves from all invisible evil forces. They believe that the teeth are the symbol of lust, greed, anger, confusion and jealousy and the custom of filling teeth renders a person physically and spiritually. This ceremony is also a symbol that the person normally female has entered from adolescent to adulthood.

Crime / 6 Horrific Murders Committed By Kids by Tolu1034(m): 2:02pm On Nov 08, 2016
1.Carl Newton Mahan – 6 years old It’s hard to imagine a 6 year old capable of murder, but on May 18, 1929 Carl and his friend Cecil Van Hoose, 8 years old, were collecting scrap metal to sell for some extra money. Cecil stole Carl’s scrap from him, hitting him in face with it. If that were the end of things, it would sound like kids being kids. But that wasn’t the end of things and Carl decided to get revenge. Unlike most kids, he didn’t hit Cecil back or run to tell his parents; instead, he ran home and grabbed his father’s 12 gauge shotgun. He ran all the way back to Cecil and told him, “I’m going to shoot you,” – before shooting the other boy. Cecil died. At the time, Carl was the youngest person to be tried for murder, which complicated the entire case. People couldn’t agree on whether a 6-year old is capable of murder. During the trial, the boy was often seen taking naps on the defense table like many kids would during a long, boring class, and didn’t seem to really care that he was on trial for his life. But after just 30 minutes of deliberation, the jury decided to convict the little boy of the lesser charge of manslaughter, sending him away to reform school for 15 years. But a circuit judge later issued a “writ of prohibition” that kept the boy from being sent away – because it was against procedure to put a child of his age on trial in front of a jury. Carl was sent home.
2.Jordan Brown – 11 years old Though the motive behind this killing is still unknown, jealousy seems to be the most common theory as to why young Jordan Brown would fatally shoot his father’s pregnant girlfriend in 2009. The victim was shot in the back of the head while she was lying in bed, and she was discovered after her 4-year old daughter alerted tree cutters nearby that her mother could be dead. Jordan had already gone to school that day, acting as if nothing had happened. Kenzie Houk, the victim, had experienced problems with the boy in the past, and a relative said that he’d talked about killing her before it actually happened. The weapon used was a youth model 20-gauge shotgun that he had been given as a birthday present. Brown was initially charged as an adult as required by Pennsylvania law, but his lawyers appealed to the state’s Superior Court to reconsider his adult status. The case was ultimately moved to juvenile court.
3. Cindy Collier and Shirley Wolf – 15 and 14 years old, respectively. Teenagers can be trouble, especially when they’re with other teens. But all the drinking and practical jokes in the world can’t compare to the trouble caused by two teenage girls in California in 1983. While many young girls keep a diary, very few write about how much fun it was to kill someone – as Shirley Wolf did in hers. Shirley and Cindy Collier became friends when Cindy was visiting a friend in a Sacramento group home. Because of commonalities and shared experiences like violent home lives, as well as molestation at the hands of their parents and relatives, the girls hit it off right away. Both girls carried so much pent up anger within them, it caused them to do the unthinkable. The same afternoon that the girls met, they randomly knocked on the doors of a condominium complex, asking to use the phone or for a glass of water. It alarmed many of the seniors living in the complex, and several locked their doors and windows once the girls left. However, one woman, Anna Brackett, 85, let the two girls in and chatted with them for nearly an hour. Shirley is quoted as saying, “We decided we were going to kill her when we saw her.” When Mrs. Brackett was distracted by a phone call, Shirley grabbed her by the throat and knocked her to the floor. Cindy threw her a butcher’s knife from the kitchen and Shirley stabbed her over and over again as the woman begged her to stop. When Brackett told the girl she was dying as she lay there bleeding to death, Shirley merely responded by saying, “Good.”
4. Amarjeet Sada – 8 years old It’s bad enough when a child accidentally kills one person. But when they kill multiple times on purpose, it makes the crime an incredibly difficult pill to swallow. And when you consider the fact that little Amarjeet’s parents knew of his murderous ways and covered up not one but two deaths, it takes this case to a whole different level. Amarjeet Sada was eight years old when he was arrested in India in June 2007. He stands accused of killing three babies – two of whom were related to him. The first victim was his six-month old cousin, who he’s accused of strangling to death. His second victim, also a cousin under a year old, had been bludgeoned to death. Both of these were covered up by the family, and Amarjeet may have gotten away with his crimes had he not been suspected in killing a neighbor’s six-month old daughter as well.
5. Michael Hernandez – 14 years old What would compel a young man to kill his own best friend? We may never know. Michael Hernandez appeared to be normal and polite, but something darker lurked inside the teenager’s mind. The young man convinced a friend of his, Jaime Rodrigo Gough – also 14 years old – to follow him into a bathroom stall at their school. He said he wanted to show him something. But instead, once inside the stall, Michael stabbed his friend several times and then slit his throat. Another boy entered the bathroom after the killing and saw Michael washing his hands, saw the bloody stall – so he notified a security guard. When they came back, Michael was nowhere to be found. He’d slipped out and went back to class, despite the blood stains on his clothing. When police looked into his life, they discovered a kid obsessed with violence. He even had a journal in which he’d outlined his plans to commit murder. In his notebook, they found a list of three people he wanted to kill as a birthday celebration to himself. Along with Gough, Michael had also planned to kill his older sister and another long-time friend. His plan had been to kill his two friends and prop their corpses up on toilets. He even made notes for himself in the journal, reminding himself to be quick, to remove all the blood and to make sure they were really dead. 6. Graham Young – 14 years old Like many parents do, Graham Young’s father thought he was helping encourage his son intellectually, by investing in a chemistry set for the young lad. Little did he know, his son would turn his fascination with chemistry into something far more sinister – and that it would later result in the death of his own stepmother. By the time Graham Young – born 1947 – was 13, his knowledge of chemicals and science was on par with post-graduate students; all of it self taught. Graham Young was obsessed with reading about chemicals, often reciting the ingredients in the headache medicine his family took. He’d also often steal nail varnish and other household chemicals to experiment with. While other kids his age probably idolized musicians or movie stars, Young’s idol was a poisoner named Dr. Crippen. Over time, Young’s experiments went from studying nail varnish to testing out several poisons on his own family – at times even accidentally ingesting some of them himself. Because of the poison, it seemed like a virus had spread through his family, infecting one person after the next. Eventually, his stepmother would die from the poisons – she’d become tolerant to antimony, so he switched over to a heavy metal called thallium to speed up her death. Because her body was cremated (at Young’s suggestion ironically enough), there was never any direct evidence that he killed her, so he wasn’t convicted of her murder. He was, however, convicted of poisoning his other family members, which earned him a trip to a maximum-security hospital. Within weeks of his arrival, Young had poisoned one of his fellow inmates with cyanide. Young claimed he could extract the cyanide from laurel bush leaves, but the officials didn’t buy it and thus marked the inmate’s death as a suicide. Eventually, Young was released from the hospital – and upon his release at the age of 23, promised to kill one person for every day he’d spent in prison. After his release, he managed to poison a few more people before being caught and convicted of two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of administering poison. He received four life sentences, and died in prison in 1990. Some are convinced that he poisoned himself. They say that he grew tired of prison life and deciding to go out on his own terms. But before he died, he was proud to see a wax figure of himself made and situated next to the of Horrors
