To all applicants with a LOW GPA, i would advice you apply to schools that uses in-house evaluations.i.e dont require WES. This is because they use the last 60 credits or last 2 years which is ur 3rd and 4th year grades to arrive at your Final GPA. Confirmed from two schools. In my case my total CGPA was 3.77/4 from WES. Buh when i sent my unofficial transcript(scanned) to 2 schools that does not require WES, the total according to them was like 3.91/4. This is because my last 2 years, i had 5.0s and 4.9s GPA with all being As and few B grade. That was what the lady told me. She was quite friendly and open. Goodluck 8 Likes 1 Share |

sarumiabiola: Apply to Ohio University MS Geological science. No GRE is required and TOEFL is waived. Apply to University of Texas at El Paso MS Geological Science Apply to Bowling Green State University Ohio, they dont really weigh GRE that much. I got admitted for spring 2019 by just telling the program director that i already applied and at that time my GRE had not been received by them. She replied me immediately with a Congratulatory Message buh advice i defer my admission to fall for funding purposes. No funding for spring. So try applying. Then also ETSU, East Tennesse State Uni.i know of someone that got in with full funding with a GRE of 286. You see, this GRE isnt for everybody. This person wrote the GRE 2 times and had 280 and 286 respectively. So JUST TRY. Goodluck Cheers 5 Likes 1 Share |

Emmalexpharm: It depends. Infact i was one of the few ones that came back. In Scotland, immigration doesnt disturb people like that in as much as you stay away from Crime unlike london. I know of a student that have overstayed for over 5 years now and he is not doing bad. It depends on what you want and the kind of life you wanna live. For me, it was a NO NO hence, the reason i came back. Plus i felt i had saved enough so no need. Others had used all their money to pay debt so coming home was not a good idea which one can understand. Cheers |

Emmalexpharm: During my time, my tuition had already been paid by my parents. Then they were also giving me some stipends buh it was not enough to sort my bills so i had to work. So i worked so as to make profit. Was making like 1500 pounds a month as min and 2000pounds as max. After tax, the min and max is left at 1250-1700pounds respectively. After I finished my studies and came back to Nigeria, all the taxs were refunded and it was quite huge. Cheers 1 Like |

Emmalexpharm: From my experience in the UK, It is possible but quite tedious and requires alot from you. I had friends that got to UK schools via loans by relatives or friends from Nigeria and they stilled pulled through but it wasnt easy. They were working as much as 70hours a week as opposed to the 20hours Max weekly hour for work. This is because they have to pay back with interest and at thesame time pay bills and rent as a student in UK. Things are quite expensive and I remember i paid close to 400 pounds per month for a shared flat(private room). So lets do this calculation The minimum wage in the UK as at 2016 was 7.5pound an hour and as a student you are only permitted to work 20hours max a week. So that gives us 150 pounds, remove tax and NI, you might be left with like 123pound. So a month u would have like 450pound. This is extremely low and can hardly sustain you for a month.Hence, you will need to work more hours per week as opposed to UK immigration laws. Like 40-50 hours a week will do to be able to live comfortably without any problem. Pls when doing this overtime, make sure you are SMART and avoid doing over time with WHITE company cos they might expose you eventually. Look for a trusted agency that can be giving yoi steady shift codedly. That was what i did in the UK. I was working as much as 60hours a week to make extra income. I was doing CARE WORK. So it is possible but quite hard and tiring. Goodluck 9 Likes 1 Share |

bracelum: Haaah. Why are u guys arguing on my 6 pages SOP. But from my little experience in the UK while being a student and also a PhD applicant. THEY READ EVERYTHING. Infact i once had 2 pages SOP buh one of my POI emailed me to write details about my research projects and all that he wants to know how my research goal matches his own.So it all depends on the Departments and there core values. Pls end the conversation abeg. I wish everybody Goodluck. One love 9 Likes 1 Share |

ObodoNaija: GSU have in-house evaluation team that evaluates your transcript provided it is a scanned official transcript (student copy) and stamped. You can always apply since your department does not require GRE. Infact there was a school i applied to that didn't require GRE buh I contacted the department to be sure but i insisted i was gonna still send it. It was reject on the application portal cos it wasn't needed. The departmental sceretary told me that only Trancript and recommendation plus SOP is required for funding and admission plus TOEFL is waived. Since your GPA is 3.6/5, please use other application documents like SOP, Recommendations etc to boost ur application. For me, my addition documents includes 3 3 other recommendation letter, making it 6, all the training certificate i had, either relevant or not, employment letter, publication, conference attended, awards etc. All this thing counts when an applicant has weak GPA buh most importantly your courses you took in your transcript also matters. They use that to check if you can excel in the program and also if there are still some deficiencies. My advice is that you APPLY immediately and hope for the best. GSU also waives TOEFL so you got no problem. 4 Likes 1 Share |

[quote author=bracelum post=75522626] Who reads a 6-page SOP? I'm sure they didn't even read beyond the first page I always tell applicants - don't make things hard for yourself - A short and coherent SOP (1K words max unless your school gives you word count) - 1-page resume (the average person spends 10 seconds on a resume) - Clear LOR showing your skills AND EXAMPLES OF SITUATIONS WHERE YOU SHOWED THOSE SKILLS (highlight those skills while sending your LOR requests to your referees) Shikenah! No long thing... [/quote It depends on your Intro and POI. Like me i did alot of projects while in school so I explained everything in details. I got a PhD admission in the UK and that was what the POI recommended via mail before i got the admission. She wanted to be sure i was equipped to carry out the research. So if your Intro is straight to the point and you write what they can relate with then no problem 3 Likes 1 Share |
