Me: gave her the required documents

VO: how did you hear abt the school
Me: i got to know about the university through an alumni of the uni(VO cuts in). you are tense and talking fast, just calm and dont tell me what you have memorised. she did not allow me to finish
VO: How many school did you apply to and how many gave u admission, name them
Me: GSU, MTU, ohio uni, BGSU , lafayette. All admitted
VO: why Ohio uni
ME: talking fast and obvious that i crammed my transcript(VO cuts in). if u have memorised everything how do you want me to know u are a genuine student, talk gently and tell me about ur research and not reputation or curriculum of the uni. pls answer my question now.
Me : i now spoke about my research in environmental geoscience. she cuts i. again
VO: how did u get the assistantship
Me: i applied then i was scheduled for a skype interview VO cuts in. all memorised she said.
VO: i will approve ur visa but next time when going for an internship u dont need to memorised or have a prepared transcript, just flow with the interview and answer the question asked. I am telling u for future purpose. Have a wonderful time in the US

dont create panic just because you were approved and wrote GRE. Lots have been approved without GRE and still being approved. There are many who wrote GRE and were still refused visa.

I am not trying to make people panic.it was just what i observed and decided to share.Remember that this forum is basically to share our views, observations and opinions. i am just trying to say that it is always good to have your GRE. it is never a criteria for visa approval.May God help us all.cheers

Note: the VO denied all students with no GRE exam. Atleast i could count 6 before me. pls kindly do GRE even if u did not do well.my friend had 278 and his bisa was approved though we both have GA that waived tuition with stipends. It is like you don't understand me. Why would you tell your sponsor to do that? Did he build the account for the purpose of visa? I did not say your statement is bad or can't be used. Kindly read my post again and understand it. A sponsor statement should have money coming in from time to time, and it could be huge or small. Now, this is what could go wrong: It may be seen by the embassy as "manipulation" if, for example, your sponsor income were 500K, 700K, 1M, etc on monthly or weekly basis for the past 4-5 months, and then a month or few weeks to interview, 7 million were deposit there. So, when you look at the transaction for the past 5 months, you could not see any deposit as huge as this, then it could be seen as intentional. HOWEVER, this is my view. Do what is best for you!

It's been a while I have given updates concerning my applications

My Profile as at the time of my application:

GPA = 4.59/5.0 (B.Sc. Geology and Mining)
GRE = 154/157/4.0 (V/Q/AWA)
TOEFL = 105 (R-30, L-25, W-28, S-22)
Work experience: Been a Graduate Assistant for a few months.

I applied to three schools (all M.Sc.)

Texas Tech University - Rejected. Reason = Insufficient funds, despite a good profile. I was wait listed for funding at first before getting their love letter . I guess funding and admission are simultaneous.

New Mexico Tech (Safe School) - Rejected. Reason = POI informed me he couldn't secure anticipated funds and wouldn't take on new grad students this year.

University of Louisiana, Lafayette - Accepted. Wait listed for funding and got another love letter informing me I wasn't selected for the second round of funded offers.

Hopefuls don't be dismayed. So many factors go into getting admits and funding.
Congrats to all those who got admits and funding. It wasn't an easy feat.
If there was any mistake I think I might have made was applying to schools without back up POIs within them. So please when applying it is good there are various options of POIs within your research group of interest who could select you as their grad student peradventure your intended POI doesn't secure the grant he/she is anticipating (I hope this makes some sense )

It is an honour being here . I have learnt a lot form this process.

I apples to 10 schools, 5 admits and 2 funded offers.Pls when next you apply or when targeting Fall 2020 pls target the following schools and make sure you write each professor after u haves submitted your application just for acknowledgement.The schools are


Bowling Green State University
Georgia State University
Stephen F Austin State University
Fort Hay State University
Ball State University.

Let me introduce myself as I have been most active on GRE thread but I have been coming to this thread daily for close to a year.

Undergrad: Statistics, CGPA:4.07/5, unofficial WES evaluation:3.47/4
I decided to apply for admission just in December. I wrote my GRE in February and prepared for less than two months: 161Q,153V, 3.0AW. Most of the requirement for the schools were met in the third week of February because of GRE but I submitted my applications before then. The admission decisions so far

Villanova University: Admitted but awaiting funding
Bowling Green State University: Admitted but awaiting funding
University of iowa: Rejected
Georgia State University: Admitted with GA which has full tuition waiver and some stipends
George Washington University: Pending
Michigan Technological University: Admitted without funding
American University: Admitted with some funding but was not sufficient

I was using style to wait for GWU but I have finally gone for GSU as it was the best offer so far coupled with the course: Master's of Mathematics with concentration in Biostatistics.

Great work everyone has been doing on this thread, God bless you. I will be starting the preparation for my interview soon and I understand I have to read previous parts, at least as much as I can. congratulations. if u dont have any deficit in your 1-20 then you dont need to but if you have, you have to show an amount to cover the remaining cost.Please check yoir 1-20 to confirm very well. Please can you kindly share your profile including the school. cheers
