TravelDon’t Leave Nigeria Without Valid Visa, Passport, FG Warns Nigerians by Tomson1(op): 5:19pm On May 25
The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against leaving the country without valid travel documents.

In a public alert posted on X on Monday, DCI AS Akinlabi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), stressed that such actions are illegal and expose individuals to serious risks.

It cautioned that all international travel must be carried out with a valid passport, visa (where required), and other approved immigration documents.

It noted that any attempt to bypass official procedures or use unauthorised border routes constitutes a violation of Nigerian law.

The NIS also raised concern over the growing use of fraudulent migration schemes, where criminal networks lure unsuspecting citizens, particularly young people, with false promises of employment, education, or better living conditions abroad.

“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the service warned, adding that no legitimate travel process bypasses established immigration procedures or official border posts.

Members of the public were also advised to report suspicious activities to the nearest Immigration Service formation or other relevant security agencies.

The agency urged Nigerians to verify all travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.

TravelNigeria Grants Rwandan Nationals 30-Day Visa-Free Entry by Tomson1(op): 8:23pm On May 15
The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced the implementation of a 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan nationals.

The directive followed an announcement by President Bola Tinubu at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.

The exemption reciprocates a similar gesture extended by the Rwandan government to Nigerian citizens.

The NIS, in a statement signed by its Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, on Friday, said the arrangement took immediate effect.

“Following the announcement by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, granting Rwandan nationals a 30-day visa exemption, reciprocating similar gesture from Rwandan Government to Nigerian citizens, the Nigeria Immigration Service has completed all arrangements for the directive’s implementation,” the statement read.

Under the bilateral arrangement, Rwandan nationals may enter Nigeria without a visa for up to 30 days for lawful purposes, including tourism, business, and official engagements.

The service, however, noted that those seeking to stay beyond the approved period must obtain the appropriate visa.

“Individuals seeking to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved 30-day period will be required to obtain the appropriate visa through a Nigerian Embassy or High Commission abroad, or the Nigeria e-Visa channel,” it stated.

The NIS added that all international entry points had been put on notice.

“All international entry points, including airports, land borders, and seaports, have been directed to commence immediate implementation of the policy in line with the Presidential directive,” the statement said.

The service described the initiative as one that “reflects the strong diplomatic and bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Rwanda, while promoting intra-African mobility, tourism, and economic cooperation in line with continental aspirations.”

It added that it “remains committed to facilitating safe, orderly, and lawful migration in accordance with international best practices and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

PoliticsFG To Withdraw Passports From Citizens Who Renounce Status by Tomson1(op): 9:18am On Apr 11
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed the Nigeria Immigration Service to immediately withdraw and deactivate passports held by persons who have formally renounced their Nigerian citizenship.

The directive, contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Alao Babatunde, covers Nigerians whose renunciation requests have been formally approved by the President.

Tunji-Ojo said the ministry, saddled with the responsibility of citizenship integrity, derives its authority for the directive from Section 29(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

The statement quoted the constitutional provision as stating: “(1)Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation.

“(2)The President shall cause the declaration made under subsection (1) of this section to be registered and upon such registration, the person who made the declaration shall cease to be a citizen of Nigeria.”

According to the statement, the minister said once a person ceases to be a citizen, they can no longer hold any sovereign document of Nigeria, including a passport.

He also described the move as consistent with ongoing passport and visa reforms undertaken by the ministry in recent years.

He said the latest directive was aimed at closing a gap that allowed former citizens to continue travelling on Nigerian passports after their renunciation had been officially recognised.

“We will continue to strengthen systems that secure Nigeria’s borders, prevent identity fraud, preserve the sanctity of Nigerian citizenship, and facilitate legitimate travel while preventing unauthorised or ineligible access,” Tunji-Ojo said.

HealthAutism Care Costs Push Nigerian Families To The Brink by Tomson1(op): 12:25pm On Apr 03
As the world marks World Autism Awareness Day 2026, families of children with autism in Nigeria are grappling with rising costs, limited access to care, and weak enforcement of disability rights.

At the heart of the crisis is affordability. Autism management depends heavily on long-term therapy, yet many households struggle to keep up with the financial demands. At Lagos University Teaching Hospital, speech therapy costs between N12,000 and N15,000 for six weeks, while behavioural and occupational therapies range from N10,000 to N12,000 each within the same period.

With weekly sessions required across multiple therapies, expenses quickly escalate, placing sustained pressure on already stretched family incomes.

Access to services is another major barrier. Most specialised centres are concentrated in urban areas like Lagos, forcing families in peri-urban and rural communities to travel long distances. For caregivers in places like Ikorodu, frequent trips to areas such as Idi-Araba or Ikeja for therapy sessions come with added transport costs, worsened by rising fuel prices.

The economic burden is even heavier for families with more than one child on the autism spectrum. Many parents especially mothers are forced to reduce work hours or quit jobs entirely to provide full-time care, leading to income loss and financial instability.

Despite the existence of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, enforcement remains weak. Stakeholders say poor funding, low awareness, and implementation gaps continue to expose families to discrimination in housing, education, and social inclusion.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a lifelong developmental condition that affects communication and social interaction. According to the World Health Organisation, about 62 million people globally roughly one in 127 are on the spectrum. While awareness is improving, early diagnosis remains a challenge in Nigeria due to limited integration of services into primary healthcare.

Mrs Joko Omotola, National President of the Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities of Nigeria, said stigma still forces many parents to hide their children. She noted that although awareness campaigns are helping, access to therapy remains both scarce and expensive.

Omotola stressed that early intervention is critical to improving outcomes, but delays in diagnosis are common. She also raised concerns about the education system, noting that many schools lack trained teachers, assistive tools, and tailored learning approaches for children with developmental disabilities.

“In some cases, children spend years in school without acquiring basic skills,” she said.

Calls for reform are growing. Stakeholders are urging the government to include autism therapies in health insurance schemes, expand services to primary healthcare centres, and strengthen social protection for affected families.

The 2026 theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” highlights the need for inclusion across education, healthcare, and employment.

Experts are also drawing attention to nutrition as a key, though often overlooked, aspect of care. Odukoya Fiyinfoluwa explained that diet plays a supportive role in improving behaviour, attention, and overall well-being.

He noted that many children with autism face feeding challenges, including food selectivity and sensory sensitivities, which can lead to nutrient deficiencies and worsen symptoms.

For parents like Kelechi Onah, the reality is deeply personal. The Ikorodu-based mother said she had to quit her banking job to care for her autistic child, adding that her husband left shortly after the diagnosis.

Her story reflects a broader struggle faced by many Nigerian families one marked by financial strain, social stigma, and limited institutional support.

As awareness grows, stakeholders say urgent action is needed to move beyond policy and deliver practical support that ensures dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for persons with autism.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting period, is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon in line with the Islamic lunar calendar. The festival is one of the most important celebrations in Islam, observed by millions worldwide.

Ramadan is a sacred month during which Muslims fast daily from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from food, drink and other physical needs. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and also emphasises charity, prayer and spiritual reflection.

PoliticsNigeria, UK Sign Mous On Migration, Border Security, Business Visas by Tomson1(op): 2:55am On Mar 20
Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed three major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering migration partnership, organised immigration crime, border security, and expanded business visas for UK firms operating in Nigeria.

The agreements were announced in a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on its X handle on Thursday, as part of ongoing engagements during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to the UK.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo was quoted as saying that the deals “reflect Nigeria’s push for a transparent, rules-based migration system that is safe, orderly and mutually beneficial,” adding that they would help tackle “abuse of legal pathways” while strengthening border control.

He noted that the MoUs were also expected to enhance trade and ease business mobility, supporting the Federal Government’s broader economic ambitions.
According to him, the arrangements support Nigeria’s drive toward a trillion-dollar economy under President Bola Tinubu, removing barriers linked to irregular migration.

The statement disclosed that the agreements were signed with the UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and UK Trade Envoy Florence Eshalomi.

The agreements mark a significant step in Nigeria–UK relations, reinforcing cooperation on migration governance, security, and economic development.

The signing of the Nigeria–UK migration and visa agreements comes amid a broader wave of bilateral engagements during President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing two-day visit to the United Kingdom.

One of the highlights of the visit is the £746 million financing deal to modernise Lagos ports.

The Lagos Port Complex in Apapa and the Tin Can Island Port are central to Nigeria’s maritime economy, serving as key gateways for imports and exports.

The ports handle a substantial portion of the country’s cargo traffic and are vital to customs operations, revenue generation, and overall economic activity.

SportsChelsea Hit With £10.75m Fine, Transfer Ban Over Premier League Rule Breaches by Tomson1(op): 5:03pm On Mar 16
Chelsea have been fined a record total of £10.75 million ($14.3 million) for historical breaches of the Premier League’s regulations, the league announced on Monday.

The club have also been handed a one-year first-team transfer ban, suspended for two years, as well as an immediate nine-month academy transfer ban.

In a statement, the Premier League said Chelsea’s current owners voluntarily reported in 2022 that they had evidence of a potential breach of rules relating to third-party payments and financial reporting. The club also reported a potential breach of academy rules in 2025.

“The Premier League has concluded two separate disciplinary processes involving Chelsea F.C., following the club voluntarily self-reporting potential historical breaches of rules,” the league said.

Following an investigation, the Premier League said it had established that between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed illicit payments by third parties associated with Chelsea were made to players, unregistered agents, and other third parties.

“These payments were not disclosed to the football regulatory authorities at the time, including the Premier League. The payments were made for the benefit of Chelsea FC and should have been treated as having been made by the club,” the league said.

“The club has also accepted, among other things, that the making of these payments, as well as the failure to disclose them to the League, constituted a breach of the requirement to act in good faith towards the League.”

Abramovich sold club in 2022

During the period in question, the London club was still owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. He sold the club in 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with a consortium led by U.S. investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital taking over in May 2022.

The Premier League said it had also assessed a “series of recalculations of the club’s historical financial submissions”, which took into account the payments made for the benefit of Chelsea. The club accepted a £10 million fine.

Chelsea avoided a points deduction after the Premier League found that “in no scenario would the club have breached the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules during the relevant periods.”

“The club’s proactive self-reporting, admissions of breach and exceptional cooperation throughout the investigation acted as significant mitigating factors,” the league said.

An investigation into breaches of the Premier League’s Youth Development Rules centred on the registration of academy players by a senior club employee between 2019 and 2022.

Chelsea accepted an immediate nine-month ban on registering academy players from Premier League and EFL clubs, along with a £750,000 fine.

The sanctions take effect immediately, with the club also paying the full costs of the league’s investigation and disciplinary processes.

“From the outset of this process, the club has treated these matters with the utmost seriousness, providing full cooperation to all relevant regulators,” Chelsea said in a statement.

The financial sanction is the highest ever imposed by the Premier League. The previous record fine (£5.5 million) was given to West Ham United in 2007.

PoliticsI Have No Issue With Tunji-Ojo, We Are Both APC Leaders – Aiyedatiwa by Tomson1(op): 5:59am On Mar 14
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has again dismissed claims of a rift between him and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state remains united.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Aiyedatiwa said he has no personal issues with the minister, stressing that politics naturally involves differing interests.

“The young man you mentioned, the Hon. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, I don’t have any issue with him. If you ask him, he will tell you the same. Politics is laden with interest, so different people have different interests. There is no fight, no division. We are members of the same family, members of the same APC,” the governor said.

He further clarified that Tunji-Ojo primarily works and resides in Abuja, and any perception of tension between them is baseless.

“I don’t have anything to do with the minister. He lives in Abuja and works in Abuja. We are working together as one. Interest differs and there are levels in leadership, but that does not mean division,” the governor said.

He added, “Those who believe in his own leadership, they are part of the LG and State executives. So, we are working together as one. Yes, interest differs and there are levels in leadership. BTO is a leader in his own right as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is a level.

“I’m a governor and that’s another level of leadership. So, there are some members of the party that believe in one person or another. We have senators, members of the House of Representatives and State Assembly who have their own followers too and those who believe in them.”

Aiyedatiwa also denied claims that he is pushing members away from the party, describing the APC as “so big that you cannot drive people away.”

The governor said the party continues to attract new entrants, citing the recent defection of Agboola Ajayi, the PDP governorship candidate in the last election, as an example.

“Some people have different interests or notions. The party is so big now that you can’t drive or chase people away because new entrants, new people are joining us. For example, the PDP governorship candidate, who contested against me in the last governorship election (Agboola Ajayi) has defected into the APC as we speak.

“Don’t forget that he scored about 150,000 votes which is almost a winning figure in previous governorship election who won the governorship seat in the past.

And I scored 666,781 votes, the highest ever in the history of the governorship election in Ondo State. For the fact that I have such figures means I’m very popular among the people. They want me. They preferred me at the time which is still the same thing right now. So, I’m not chasing anybody away and there is no attack from me to anybody.”

Aiyedatiwa also highlighted that the APC controls the entire state legislature.

“Today, for the first time, all 26 members of the House of Assembly are APC members. Everyone is working together as one, despite differences in levels of leadership. There are senators, House of Representatives and State Assembly members with their own followers, but we remain united,” he said.

The governor emphasized that the party remains the “only viable political option in the state.”

“Nobody can leave the party. Ondo State is APC. There is no alternative. Don’t forget we just had our state congress. Everyone who believes in leadership is part of the LG and State executives,” Aiyedatiwa said.

The governor’s comments come amid speculation about internal disagreements within the APC in Ondo State, following defections and competing political interests.
