plaindealer: If you screen an old man and you find out he has dementia/Alzheimer's/Parkinson's, CKD, with a background congestive heart failure, I'm sure even the devil wouldn't recommend him to be voted for. I'm sure you wouldn't want to vote in a young candidate with severe medical conditions. This is in no way discriminatory. Worldwide, standard organizations do medical screening. I've seen hundreds of people come to the hospital for medical reports stating they are healthy. You see? 1 Like |

plaindealer: Well, there's some truth in what you've written. But not entirely. There are some pathognomonic features that are strong pointers to some conditions. There are things you see in a patient that are so indicative that you can commence treatment without a test. This is especially true in our environment where patients can't afford some of these tests. Tremors, thought blocking, old age. These three, anywhere in the world, are strong pointers. It's in only a small fraction of the population that may turn out to be something else, or ?benign. 1 Like |

plaindealer: Sadly, you seem to have missed the point of my submissions. This is not a Jonathan-Buhari argument. My submission is rather an attack on the Nigerian medical and legal communities. Our legislators should impose laws making medical scrutiny a compulsory step to power. This law may already be there but is it functional? If it were, our current president and Tinubu wouldn't have approached power. My point is an argument that age, especially old age, is a strong determinant of the success of a leader. My point is that, as we age, neurodegenerative changes occur and this jeopardizes our functions. My point is that our country deserves a young, well-oriented leader. I don't care where this person comes from. If he's strong enough for the job, if he's got a good record, if he has the potentials, we all should vote for him. 1 Like |

plaindealer: My POV is not a strictly political argument. I'm coming from the medical perspective and would wish to be engaged by a medic so we would go into deeper depths. Back to your assertions. To say that Jonathan is the worst president we've had is strongly arguable. I hope you know someone else would come up and tell you Buhari is the worst. See, assessments in politics, most times, are based on personal interests. I know there are medical doctors that support Tinubu's candidacy. I know there are doctors that supported Buhari. Heck, many of these docs are my chiefs... Some are professors and gods of medicine. But I also know these people are acting out of personal gains, tribalism, or something else. The medicine they taught us tells us otherwise. Also note that while Tinubu is "working hard," Peter Obi too seems to be working hard. The man is always on the road. He toured more states than Tinubu. So we can't just generalize that it's only Tinubu that's working hard. I had said earlier that this age discussion is truer in the old. This can be proven scientifically. I understand there are other dynamics that determine if a leader would be successful. So, the fact that someone is young does not confirm he'd be a successful leader. Thank you. 1 Like |

dominique: Dominique, actually, age is a factor, but relatively. You see, as we begin to get older, a lot of biopsychosocial changes occur. For instance, the brain tissue undergoes degenerative changes, the heart becomes weaker, the kidneys begin to depreciate in their functions. With all these changes, cognitive functions may be affected. Objective decision making becomes a bit more difficult. If, for example, the individual comes down with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, memory and other executive functions may be affected. Motor functions may not be spared. Let's take a closer look at Tinubu's situation. We've noticed tremors in his hands, we've seen him suffer thought blocking and poverty of thought. We've seen him have breathing difficulties while speaking. In medicine, the above signs are serious pointers to conditions associated with aging. I would bore the audience with medical jargons, so I'd leave this here. Buhari travelled abroad multiple times for treatment. In some occasions, he stayed there for extended periods of time. This medical tourism costs a fortune. This is money that would have been put to good use here. We don't know what exactly he's being treated for. Whatever the pathology may be, there are psychological consequences. Again, these would interfere with objective decision making. I'm taking my time to write this because many people believe that age has nothing to do with being a good leader. This is not exactly true, especially when talking about old people. For youths, it's perfectly true. We see the nonsense people do with SUG elections. Yahaya's case is another example. So, at this other end of the spectrum, your statement is true. I hope this helps. 2 Likes |

Laird: Exactly! It is unlikely that a certified doc would recommend CS when there is no clear reason. Patients do not understand a lot of things that go down...and I blame the docs, in part. Most docs just prescribe and recommend treatment protocols without appropriately explaining to the patient WHY. To argue in the favour of docs, the workload makes this tough...as everyone wants to shorten consultation time and see the next patient. Otherwise, if it's at the hospital where the wife had her ANC, delivery options and complication preparedness is a discussion that is initiated by the provider from the first day...the booking visit, infact...each visit, the books recommend that the doc takes the patient through this discussion...again, and again. Once an indication for CS is identified, the doc must have told them long before delivery...unless it's an emergency CS....Still, the doc would have prepared them for possible emergencies. Let's just thank God things didn't go bad. 1 Like |

Another truth. But we really can't say what transpired since we weren't there. I suggest a formal complaint should be made and the case notes should be retrieved and investigated. If guilty of negligence, the doctor should be appropriately disciplined. |

True, sir, I agree. Osteosarcoma can easily be picked as a top differential by senior medstudents, as a matter of fact. Truth is we don't know the circumstances that may have prevailed at the time of presentation. I honestly think it was wrong for the doc to declare it a benign lesion without asking for a biopsy and imaging. Misinforming the patient must have made him relax and "forget about it" hence allowing the pathology to progress to irreversible extents. 1 Like |

Until we realize that the evil in our society has got no gender, we would go nowhere. In today's news, we see a MAN willing to kill his daughter for rituals. Who knows? Tomorrow's case may be that of a female doing something else. Where are those alpha men that think women are responsible for their wahala? Where are those that say women are only to be blamed? Where are the redpillers or whatever they are called? Who knows what this man may have told his wife before leaving home. Poor woman would be home waiting for her daughter's return. Thank God this one wasn't successful! I won't be surprised if someone comes here to blame the wife for this. Maybe she wasn't submissive enough. Maybe she pressured him into doing this. Maybe she threatened to leave him unless he returns home with a billion dollars. Please guys, let us learn now that anyone, any gender, can do anything! We must kill gender bias and attack crime as it is. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

This man needs an urgent mental health assessment. He may have a background schizophrenia. When eventually arrested, he should be made to see a mental health physician. It is difficult to believe that any human would act this recklessly with a clear head. Whatever the case may be, he should never be close to his wife and kids. He's a danger to anyone within his reach and the society in general. 3 Likes |

It's honestly shameful that the world is here today. We've read reports of posts tossing people into depression or causing them to take their lives. We've failed to realize that actions have consequences. This is especially true when we are not the ones in the spotlight. Awfully shameful, I'd say. 143 Likes 14 Shares |

drlateef: Please how does this gesture paint anyone black? Did the man attack any religion? All he did was to give alms to victims of religious violence. All he did was to show love as he deems fit. This lady is not the first recipient of this man's magnanimity. We have seen in the past how he freely gives to all. Why are you trying to paint this narrative in the wicked colours of religion? The man and his church can choose whomever they want to help. No one can force them. Even if someone is killed in front of his church, of he doesn't feel like, you can't force him to build a house for that person. Why don't you encourage others to emulate this man? Must all help come from him? I'm honestly amazed how people find fault in this. The unfortunate murder of the pregnant woman and her children should evoke humanity in others, including you and I. We can't continue to push responsibilities to others. We should do something. No matter how small. Honestly, I'd really like to know how this man's action paints anyone "in black." A young, promising Christian girl is gruesomely murdered by a group of Muslim extremists in the north because she allegedly blasphemed against their prophet (or God). A pastor in the south decides to support the family and move them out of the Muslim-dominated north. He did not only relocate them but he also provided means of livelihood to them using his church's resources. Please, sir, where is the harm in this? The publicity? Well, this publicity is important and strategic! If for nothing, the Christian community in the north is now strengthened and their faith in Jehovah stronger than ever! They now know their southern brethren are with them. This publicity has helped him win public trust and more donations can be made by his members and non-members. This publicity has taught us all how to demonstrate love, whether we are related to the person or not. Do you know his church also runs a free hospital? Free! Open to all, whether Christian or Muslim. Do you know he has series of free schools in PH? Free! Open to all, whether Christian or Muslim. You now see he has done a lot for humanity, irrespective of one's religious inclination. Please let's all say thanks and move on. There's no harm done here. 1 Like |

emmanueloti65: Your position in this matter can be argued. It all boils down to the reason this is in the media. This shouldn't be between the man and us. It should be between him and God. There are some acceptable reasons to have this in the media. First, this may be a way of being accountable to donors in his church. It may also be his way of encouraging other victims of war and all. It can even be a way of challenging the Nigerian government to improve their abysmal performance. By publishing this, the church has gained more public trust and more donations can be gotten. Recall that the church needs these donations to continue doing stuffs like this. 3 Likes |

drlateef: Sir/ma, I guess you know we all can choose to help whomever we desire to help. No man can help everyone. This man has done his bit by helping this family. We cannot force him to help any other person. Rather, we should call on other philanthropists to arise to the occasion. Let's not turn this into a religious debate. The pastor does not owe anyone any apology for helping Deborah's family. Neither does he owe anyone any apology for not helping other victims of violence. Your post lacks gratitude. He is not obligated to do anything for anyone. It is the government that owes us all such an obligation. I think it's better we thank the man and move on whole hoping that others arise to help other victims of violence and all. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Health / Re: UK Investigating Gay Bars After New Monkeypox Outbreak Related To Gays by TONYE001(m): 7:22pm On May 20, 2022 |
Hermes119: 1. @Your first point: we are essentially saying the same thing. The UK seems to have found a pattern in the spread of the virus and the MSM community appears to be chief players in this transmission. Age is an unmodifiable risk factor of hypertension. With this information, we know it is important certain intervention protocols are activated in the elderly population as regards containing age-related incidence and prevalence of hypertension. See? So, if homosexuality is identified as a key factor in the spread of the virus, mechanisms should be put in place to contain it. In this instance, homosexuality is modifiable (unlike age in the HTN example you mentioned). If this infection is serious enough and life-threatening enough, the UK may put a law against the practice of homosexuality...thus,they would have MODIFIED this risk factor. See? 2. Sexual intercourse is nature's way of ensuring the continuity of life. Recall that one of the characteristics of living things is reproduction. This is nature's primary intent for sex. Any form of sex that does not amount to reproduction is unnatural. 3. I did not write anywhere that homosexuals shove their businesses in my throat, did I? 4. I'm glad you agree that anal sex is a major health risk. True, prolapse is not an infectious condition. So, it doesn't affect me directly. However, by engaging in high-risk sexual activities, public health is exposed to an avoidable risk. You cannot guarantee or ensure safe sex. As far as people practice anal sex, the health of populations not involved in the act is at risk. Homosexuals can pick up infections and transmit the same to others. Our universe is a closed system. Nothing escapes it. Things are recycled, one way or the other. So, no matter how you view it, anal sex and other forms of high-risk sexual lifestyles put us all at risk of coming down with STD's. 5. By the way, I wonder where you got your homophobia talk from. I can't recall mentioning that I'm homophobic. 2 Likes |
Health / Re: UK Investigating Gay Bars After New Monkeypox Outbreak Related To Gays by TONYE001(m): 6:39pm On May 20, 2022 |
Hermes119: Sir, if you understand epidemiology, you'd appreciate that the UK did not just wake up from sleep to accuse the MSM community of being possible important vectors of the virus. Nobody hates anyone. I do not support unnatural sexualities and this does not imply that I hate those that indulge in the act. All I'm asking is that they keep their businesses away from me. The anus is not structured for sex. It is highly vascular. There is a very rich anastomosis in that region. This makes it easy for diseases to pass on to those that peruse the region. Anal sex is therefore a significant threat to our health. With further investigations and studies, we'd come to know how gays contribute to the transmission of this virus. 2 Likes 1 Share |

atmy1: 1. The source is an international news platform. 2. The source and other news outlets from its country (and other western nations) have broken news of Russian wins/gains in this war. Somehow, any news favouring Russia and its interests is accepted but those favouring Ukraine are tagged as propaganda. 3. Again, somehow, any info emanating from Russian/eastern media is accepted since the narratives suit the desires of pro-Russian readers. This is so even though there has been reports of Russian media's loss of autonomy. 4. My point is, we tend to only accept information that suit our narratives. In doing this, we forget that we rely on these same international media houses for over 80% of the news we digest. 5. The above is the nature of the human mind. 2 Likes |

Trying to figure why "??large vaginal tears" would kill the lady. The best that may happen should be abrasions due to poor lubrication. Abrasions are superficial lesions. No major bleeders expected here. Even if they used objects to amplify their sexual stimulation, this is still unlikely. Even terrible bleeders from episiotomies are well controlled and there's no haemodynamic compromise. Medically speaking, this story is unlikely to be true.
