It is a big deal. Not everybody can withstand it. To land safely to your destination is by the grace. Some passengers take alcohol or use sedation so that they will not witness the turbulent. In this mordern days, there is no reason not to receive daily pictures of your project from your contractors.
Also you are right, why not engage in a professional person to do your project and travel home un-announced to see what is happening with your project.
