The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy has called for more collaboration in the areas of data protection and privacy assessment in the country . A statement by the ministry made this known during an online meeting with Data Analytics Privacy Technology Limited led by its Executive Director /Partner, Ambassador Segun Olugbile . The Permanent Secretary of the ministry , Mr Musa Istifanus, thanked the organisation for its insightful and timely presentation on the need to collaborate to properly assess , co -ordinate and identify the data protection and privacy risks. The Director , Radio Monitoring and Survey at the ministry, Kilyobas Binga , who represented the permanent secretary , said the presentation was crucial at the time of COVID -19 pandemic and global economic downturn. He noted that the new normal due to the pandemic called for Ministries , Departments and Agencies to leverage technology through virtual/ online platforms to conduct government business. Binga stated that the ministry ’s e-government department and the National Information Technology Development Agency were collaborating with the Ministry of Health to work out a robust e- health policy and action plan for the country . This, according to him , will enable the Ministry of Health to reach out to the public at this time of COVID -19 pandemic. In his presentation during the online meeting , a Director at DAP , Mr Franklin Akinsuyi, explained the importance of data protection and privacy impact assessment in the present and post COVID -19 phase. He highlighted the socio - economic effects and how to help organisations identify and minimise the data protection risks of a project /programme or system change where personal data was being processed. “ Processing data is conducted in a manner that breaches the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation and other international data protection laws . Government institutions need to collaborate to properly assess , co -ordinate and identify the data protection and privacy risks to the population , ” Akinsuyi said . Akinsuyi added that the benefits of implementing DPIA was to improve awareness and to reduce data protection and privacy risks while executing MDA projects as well as making provision for a uniform and consistent way of assessing risks across ministries . The Executive Director , Business Development at DAPT , Olutoyin Oloniteru , in his presentation , urged the ministry to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to drive the technology aspect of the e- health process, noting that before any technology could be deployed, there had to be impact assessment on the country ’ s economy. A Self-Acclaimed Prophet, Dotun Ogunlade has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly killing a 25 year old woman, severed the head and arms for ritual purposes in Igbo-Ora town of the State Penpushing reports that, the ‘Cleric’ met the housewife on a facebook, who narrated her marital, social and economic plights to him, and under the guise of solving the problem spiritually invited the victim who resident in Ilorin Kwara State. The woman on the arrival at Igbo-Ora, was allegedly drugged by the Prophet under the pretext to ease out fatigue of the journey from Ilorin, and in continuation of his evil plot injected the innocent victim with an overdose sedatives and subsequently over powered her. Penpushing further reports that, the Prophet popularly called ‘Arole Jesu’ strangulated, killed the woman and subsequently, severed her head and arm and thereafter buried the remains in a shallow grave at Ogboja Area of Igbo-Ora. The Prophet was arrested alongside his accomplice known as Mutiu, who was alleged to have contacted the Prophet to make him rich through ritual means, having complained that his business was not going on well. Penpushing also reports that, the alleged ritualist Prophet, in an interview with journalists said, 'my name is Oludotun Ogunlade a.k.a 'Arole Jesu', I gained the Church experience from my former boss who happened to be a Prophet in a Cherubim and Seraphim Church, I later settled down with my own Church after the death of my Grandpa. Me and the woman have been chatting on Facebook since January of this year, so I later told her to come and paid me a visit in Igbo-Ora which she later agreed to come’. ‘Mutiu has already told me about the challenges he was having concerning his work, and he said he can go in any length in getting a quick money, although I have been doing something like this for him before, but he said he need something that will bring the money quicker this time around." "The woman later came in the night from Ilorin to Iseyin where I went to picked her to Igbo-Ora, I gave the woman a sedative injection on 31st of May, after she complained about pains in her body. She slept off and strangulated her to death’, he confessed. ‘I later cut off her head, and burnt it to ashes which we mixed with other material that was poured into a schnapps for Mutiu to drink so that his money can come faster, and the remains of the woman was later buried in a shallow grave. Penpushing reports that, Mutiu Ayorinde, who is an accomplice told journalists that, "I am an indigene of Obada Idi-Emi, Imala, in Ogun State, am a pure water machine engineer and I also deal with installation of pure water machine. ‘I went to Prophet Arole and told him that my work was not going well, so I need something that can bring quick money for me, he showed me the list of the materials am going to buy to make the work done which did not include any human part’. ‘Later, he called me and said that he has gotten someone whom he met on Facebook whom we can use to do the work. Me and Prophet Arole buried the woman together after the Prophet has strangulated her to death. Arole told me that we are going to use the head of the woman together with the materials on the list for the ritual which I agreed, so her body was buried in a grave in front of the church The Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu who led a team of police men to the location where the victim was buried, noted that late Mrs Bosede Oguntade, was a victim of fake spiritualist, who she met on facebook. Penpushing reports that, Olukolu said based on credible information and diligent investigation, the police in Igbo-Ora were able to smashed and arrested the syndicate, which is led by the fake Prophet, adding that, the severed parts of the woman had already crushed into powder for rituals. "Further investigation revealed that the severed parts were allegedly crushed into powder for rituals to become powerful and rich, two knives used to kill and severed body part of the victim, a white cloth bag containing substance inside a gourd where the alleged powder from the severed parts is kept and a bottle of Stallion Schnapps were also recovered" Penpushing also reports that, the police boss said investigation is still ongoing to further unravel the misery and the motive for this heinous crime, and urged the people to continue to collaborate with the police by giving timely and useful information to enable them to serve the community better. "The police will continue on the resolute determination to stamped out crimes and criminality in the society, members of the public should be careful absolutely trusting individuals or groups who are entirely strangers, they meet on social media particularly those who claimed to possess the power of clairvoyance or ability to combat and treat successfully terminal diseases or possessed solutions to social and marital challenges’. |
