Politics › Re: OPINION: Why I Think President Tinubu Should Revisit His Economic Policies by Topman7: 10:47pm On Jul 30, 2025*. Modified: 11:07pm On Jul 30, 2025 |
Hemanwel: It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that the economic policies of this present administration have brought untold hardship on Nigerians and as well, plunged many into the poverty index. This, of course, may be largely due to the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira at the beginning of this administration.
Many nations of the world have devised various economic policies to tackle the economic woes bedeviling them, and these have been done in relation to the economic realities peculiar to them. While some of the policies have brought economic prosperity to these nations, others have failed woefully. I believe economic policies are not a one-size-fits-all thing. Whatever economic blueprint that worked for country A may not work for country B. That a particular economic policy lifted India out of recession doesn't mean it will work for Burundi. And how do we confirm/conclude that an economic policy is successful? It's how it impacts on the citizens of the country. If an economic policy or blueprint is intended to better the lives of the citizens of a country, and upon implementation, the reverse happens to be the case, such policy should be discontinued. It means such policy is not feasible and doesn't align with the economic realities of that country.
On that note, I would call on President Tinubu and his economic team to revisit the economic blueprint of this administration, cos it isn't working. It has brought untold hardship on Nigerians, and has taken many from the middle-class into poverty. Tinubu's economic policies have failed!
cc nlfpmod, lalasticlala, seun, mynd44, You people never learn. Let me tell you something. Nigeria was borrowing and paying BILLIONS OF DOLLARS annually to keep the Naira artificially high valued. Do you have the money to repay for such craziness? Here's the deal. And every Nigerian should know this. The ONLY way to raise the value of the Naira is for at least 30% of Nigerians to decide to buy MADE IN NIGERIA over foreign made goods and services. Note that I didn't say ALL Nigerians. Just 30%.And by 'Buy Made in Nigeria', I mean your clothes, shoes, cars, handbags, women deciding to elevate indigenous plaits and braids over spending 1 billion dollars annually importing Brazilian dog hair and bleaching creams to look white. Men preferring ABA-MADE SHOES to Italian. Instead of scorning your own indigenous products as 'local'. That attitudinal change alone can create 20 million new jobs for local hair stylists and other indigenous manufacturers and innovators and shore up the Naira virtually overnight. Our preference for imports is our biggest problem. It destroys local initiative. Imagine a Nigerian youth, Audu, that's a skilled watchmaker. He makes his wristwatches in his makeshift backyard factory and offers them for sale to traders. You, a Nigerian, walk into the shop to buy a wristwatch. You see his wristwatch. Made in Nigeria. You see the wristwatch next to his. Made in Switzerland. Which one do you pick? Don't bother responding. We know the answer. That is why your currency value is LOW.The Swiss watch is about dollars and Euros, hence the greater demand for those currencies than naira. Hence their high value. It's simple mathematics you people refuse to learn, as you cover yourselves in imported jeans, t shirts and sneakers, all costing dollars, instead of your local danshiki that is in Naira. And until your attitudes towards your OWN indigenous innovation changes, your currency value will ALWAYS be low. And the saddest thing is that as you grow richer, the more foreign your tastes become. You crave for less 'local' stuff. It's not about Tinubu or govt. It's about You. |

obeegee: Most african countries have a widely spoken local language in addition to the language of their colonizers.
Ghana has Akan. East Africa swahili. South Africa zulu. Zimbabwe Shona. Niger rep hausa.
So yes the poster has a point.
The issue I find is that these countries are not as culturally diverse as us. Even when they have multiple ethnic groups, there is a dominant one which has everyone learn that language.
Many northerners in nigeria are not hausa, but most speak hausa. So, by population there are more hausa speakers in nigeria than other languages. So maybe we should teach in schools and adopt hausa as our national language.
But ethnic rivalries wont allow this. Great point. Which is why we should do the wise thing, ie pick one of the 'smaller' languages, to ensure harmony. Seriously, nobody would complain if we were all required to learn Kanuri or Itsekiri as the national language. The main thing is that we cannot and we WILL NOT speak English indefinitely as a people. It will NOT happen. We are not Europeans. We are Africans. |

Muhammadu Buhari slaughtered hundreds of Shiites, men, women and even children
He ordered soldiers Of the HQ Nigerian Army to open fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters waving the Nigerian flag.
He "disappeared" Dadiyata.
He ordered the massacre of young southeasterners he branded IPOB.
He disobeyed court orders, jailed critics arbitrarily, destroyed the economy, and ruined everything he touched.
And now, because he's dead, some people with selective memory want us to mourn or worship him?
Shameful.
NO, we do not mourn tyrants. We remember their victims. Sowore is a Liar. Buhari Never told any soldier to “open fire” on EndSars protesters, and not a single protester was killed by the Nigerian military. Sowore you are Shameless. |

MemphitzDgreat1: There's nothing absolutely good to say about Buhari Buhari fixed and upgraded all the airports in this country. He transformed Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport Abuja into a world class facility, adding a brand new terminal. Same as MMA Lagos new terminal. He also did a lot in railway development. Lagos-Ibadan high speed rail. That’s Buhari. Ajaokuta-Itakpe line, Abuja-Kaduna line, and many more. Hope you leave even 1% of such impact before you leave this Earth. |

But I don't know why African leaders have refused to build good hospitals that can treat them, they prefer going abroad for medical treatment after serving for so many years, even our current president doesn't believe in our health care system, we still have a long way to go. There are hospitals in Nigeria that can treat them. It’s their political enemies they are wary of. Someone could arrange with a nurse to put something in their food or injection etc… That’s what they are scared of, not that there’s no hospital to treat them. |

Nonexisting1: Imagine the combination of Tinubu, Cameroon president and Ugandan president in that meeting. One could easily conclude that it was a meeting for residents of an old people's home and Trump would have finished them with his bad mouth. Trump is a convicted criminal on 34 felonies, and is no position to “finish with his bad mouth”, if you are a person of dignity who knows your worth. Rest assured that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria knows His worth, and that of the country he represents, and will Never agree to sit down in public with a demented creature like Trump. |

bigpicture001: The government house of Anambra has more than 10 houses, all. Luxury... It has streets, it has network drainages... Again .it was constructed not just by soludo but by 2x governors... Hence the cost...
Maybe u judge by the facade alone .. just like u will believe the white house in the US is just one house judging from it's facade... Every state house is like that, oga. It’s never just one house. 🏠 The question is why was the Vice President’s residence an issue for you people when it only cost N20 billion, compared to N100 billion mansions for your Anambra state governor? I just checked the exchange rate and that amounts to nearly $70 million! Do you know how many industries you can establish with such amount in Anambra? Do you know you can build 3 solid universities with that money? But no. Tinubu is your problem. In fact I weep for this country. 😢 |
Politics › Re: FG Renovated VP Residence For N20 Billion. Soludo House Awka Cost N100 Billion by Topman7(op): 4:36pm On Jul 11, 2025 |
People keep blaming FG for everything forgetting that the states have had their allocation increased fivefold since subsidy removal.
This is one of the most underreported facts of our current situation - that the states are swimming in money.
Collectively they get more budgetary allocation than the federal government.
Yet everyone just faces Tinubu and ignores them while they build N100 billion naira palaces and siphon money.
Those governors can’t believe their luck.
All fingers pointing at Tinubu while they loot! |
Politics › Re: FG Renovated VP Residence For N20 Billion. Soludo House Awka Cost N100 Billion by Topman7(op): 4:27pm On Jul 11, 2025 |
festacman: Well, it is N100 billion well spent today. It could have cost much less if it was done 10 years but people with your mindset slept on it and thus the state spent more.
It is the same mindset that is responsible for dearth of certain critical infrastructure in Anambra State because it wouldn't generate rent even when it is needed to drive the State economy.
Look, White House of USA wasn't built and expanded several times with peanuts but it has become the pride of every American. In the same way, the new Anambra State Government House in Awka named THE LIGHT HOUSE will continue to be the pride of every Onye Anambra for years to come. And the Vice President’s lodge which represents Nigeria is not worth N20 billion but your state governor’s lodge is worth N100 billion? You people are soulless. Your hypocrisy wears a hat and carries a walking stick, to use an Igbo proverb. |

SmartPolician: He's not spreading any hate. You cannot go about destroying someone's land with drugs and fraud, and expect them to like and welcome you open hands.
This is the conversation we should be having now: why do Nigerians commit crimes outside Nigeria? Nobody would take that from any foreign nationals, including YOU! Who is the “You”? Nobody on this thread has anything to do with South Africa. If some Nigerians are committing drug crimes in South Africa, where is their Police? Where is their law enforcement? Why should I bear the brunt for their useless, corrupt police? Not once have I ever seen South Africans criticise their police, whose Job it is to flush out criminals. The police obviously take bribes from the criminals, so how will it end? By demonising 250 million Nigerians? Who is “You”! Why aren’t Nigerians pushing drugs in America or UK or Canada? Quite the opposite. They are known as doctors, lawyers, engineers and university professors. If your law enforcement supports or ignores criminals, they will never go away. If you like, blame Nigerians from now till kingdom come. |

immortalcrown: Stop mixing things up on necessarily. If soludo built the house with his money and the house is for him, it is not the business of any other person. But if saludo used public money to build the house for himself, it is very wrong. In the case of the federal government, it is very clear that public money was used to renovate the residence at that inflated cost.
Again, the federal government itself announced that it used 20 billion naira for the renovation. In the case of Soludo, how did you ascertain the cost of his house? It’s the official governor’s residence, built with state funds. The cost is no secret. There was even a thread about it here a while back, and Obidients were proudly showing off the edifice as a sign of progress in Anambra. |

When the VP’s residence was renovated for N20 billion, all hell broke loose, with Obidients condemning the development as evil and insensitive, in these trying times.
As a sign that Tinubu was corrupt and wicked.
Meanwhile, Gov Soludo just commissioned a brand new residence for himself in Awka, that cost over N100 billion, and everywhere is quiet. 🤫
Can somebody make sense of this, please?

There is no other benefit coming.....weda in 5 years time or 8years time...U are just d£ceiving yourself or living in denial..
..tinubu ddnt execute his policies well because he had no plan from the start than to play politics with the Nigerian people's common wealth... Are you aware that states collectively receive more of the federal budgetary allocation than the FG? Are you aware that the states allocation has increased nearly 5-fold since subsidy removal? Are you aware that All the states are Construction Sites right now? When last, if ever, did you travel round the country to see developments going on? You just sit in your house with all this garbage in your head. It’s pathetic. Go to Enugu and see how the governor is transforming the place. Go to Awka and Onitsha and see projects everywhere. Go to Kaduna. You will not believe the rate of development there. Go to Asaba and Benin. New infrastructure everywhere, with more coming up. Where do you think the money is coming from? The FG renovated the VP’s residence with 20 billion naira. So what? Soludo just completed a brand new state governor’s residence in Awka for N100 billion. Did you complain? Or you kept quiet because he is of your ethnic group? |
