BusinessCorporate Affairs Commission Pegs Registration Fee At N5,000.00K. by torino88(op): 12:37pm On Oct 04, 2018
From October 1 to December 31st, business registration will cost N5000.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the announcement in Enugu at the launch of the 19th edition of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinics.
At present, business registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) costs N10,000.

“It was observed during some of the earlier editions of the MSMEs Clinics that a lot of MSMEs were finding it difficult to register their businesses as a result of cost,” the statement released by Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the vice president on media and publicity, quoted him to have said.

“The practice since we began the MSMEs clinics is that most agencies offer price reductions, especially for registration, and all other pre-investment approvals, during the Clinics.
“So, I am pleased to announce that the Federal Government, through the Corporate Affairs Commission, has approved a special window of 90 days from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 to register businesses at a considerably reduced rate of N5000 only, down from as much as N10,000 previously.
“This will afford more MSMEs an opportunity to formalise their businesses.”
Osinbajo said the federal government will introduce shared facilities for MSMEs.
He said the facilities would be based on a partnership between the federal government, interested states, Bank of Industry, NEXIM Bank, FIRS, NAFDAC, SON and interested private sector partners.

“The purpose of these shared facilities is to have a fully-equipped place with machinery and equipment required for various trades and businesses. MSMEs can then do their businesses at those locations at a reasonable cost,” he explained.
“This way, MSMEs are spared the financial burden of having to buy their own equipment in order to be able to do business.

“Where possible, these shared facilities would have been pre-certified by relevant agencies, removing the need for MSMEs to pursue these certifications by themselves.”

Jobs/VacanciesFRSC Commences Screening To Select New Recruits by torino88(op): 1:40am On Sep 16, 2018
The Federal Road Safety Commission has said its screening and physical fitness assessment for potential new recruits will commence from September 24 to 29.

The FRSC public education officer, Bisi Kazeem, said in a statement sent on Friday night that the screening would be conducted in all the state capitals.

According to him, applicants are advised to check their emails used for the submission of the applications on September 19 for relevant information.

He said the information will contain details like the venue, date, time of screening and items to be taken along for the exercise.

“Shortlisted applicants are to come with the summary data page earlier received and email notification slip which shall admit them to the screening venue,” he said. He said any candidate without the print out of the summary data page and notification slip for this phase of the exercise shall not be admitted into the screening venue.

The corps marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria  in July said the corps will recruit 4,650 officers and procure new logistics vehicles to improve road safety management in the country

The corps started the recruitment exercise across the country in May 2018.

PoliticsImo To Elect 27 Local Government Chairmen & 645 Councilors On Saturday by torino88(op): 11:34am On Aug 23, 2018
This is to inform the general public that on Saturday, August 25, 2018, Imo people will be electing 27 Chairmen for the twenty-seven local governments in the State and about 645 Councilors, in the local government election slated for Saturday, August 25, 2018 and to be conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC.

In line with the vision of Governor Rochas Okorocha and policy of the State Government to take government to the communities, the State House of Assembly enacted a law that has warranted every autonomous community to elect a Councilor, with the State now having about 645 autonomous communities.

The governor has always believed that government should be taken to the people at the grassroots which had also occasioned his administration to come up earlier with the idea of Community Government Council (CGC) which has also transformed most of the Communities in terms of development.
And having seen the great impact of the CGC in the communities, an executive bill was sent to the State House of Assembly for a law that would enable autonomous communities to elect their Councilors and the Councilors will be the link between the government at all levels in the State and the individual communities for development.

The Councilors will also be working hand-in-glove with their respective traditional rulers for the Development or Progress of the autonomous communities involved.
However, the governor has urged the Imo electorate to vote for the Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election since the APC government has done very well for the seven years it has held sway in the State.

The governor also called for peaceful Conducts on the sides of the Political Parties and Candidates taking part in the election, while ISIEC should ensure free and fair election. He wishes all the Candidates well.

PoliticsGovernors Allege Poor Implementation Of Federal Budgets In South East by torino88(op): 8:03am On Aug 22, 2018
South East governors yesterday expressed dissatisfaction with the implementation of federal budgets in the zone .
According to them , the region has continued to be allegedly shortchanged in projects’ execution and the likes.
This comes as a report on the performance of the 2017 federal budget indicated that the construction of the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha , Anambra State was never captured in the document .
At the presentation of the report they organised in collaboration with some non-governmental organisations, including Hope Givers Initiative, Christian Aid and Partnership to Engage , Reform and Learn in Enugu , the governors called on the Federal Government to faithfully implement this year’s budget for the zone in view of a plethora of projects needing attention.
Represented by the Director General of the South East Governors Forum , Prof. Simeon Otuanya, the state chief executives noted that the budgets were designed to ensure the restoration of the national economy on the path of sound and sustainable growth across all sectors and geographical spaces around the country.
They stressed that the government at the centre should fulfil expectations of the public .
Their words : “We believe that such re -balancing must take into consideration the concepts of equity and fairness vertically and horizontally in order to develop every nook and cranny of the nation .
We will continue to work as think tanks to review budget allocations and implementations at the state and national levels for all the years forward with special interest on how they are helping the region towards economic renaissance. ”
An economist and fellow presenter of the document , Dr . Uzochukwu Amakom , stated that projects allocated to the South East in the 2017 budget were either not started , abandoned , poorly executed or still ongoing .
On the Second Niger Bridge, he explained that the project , which was proposed at an initial cost of N 117 billion in 2013 and later adjusted to include railing and increase in the number of lanes from two to three , has never been captured in the budget .
“The project , which is supposed to have been completed in four years after its foundation stone laying ceremony in 2013, is still at the primary stage. Progress of work is very slow .
“Although the work was started with Julius Berger , they are yet to be awarded the contract formally.
This was the story of the people at the site and was confirmed by the ministry .
We made efforts to speak to the Controller of Works in Awka to clear the matter without success at the time ,” Amakom added .https://m.guardian.ng/news/governors-allege-poor-implementation-of-federal-budgets-in-south-east/

Politics5 Takeaways From Saraki’s Response To Tinubu by torino88(op): 10:36pm On Aug 20, 2018
Today, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, replied Aiswaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a 12-paragraph statement titled “The Tinubu Rhetoric: My Response,” Saraki revealed that Tinubu has expressed strong reservations about the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government; and has demonstrated certain inconsistencies “when one reviews his antecedents over the years.”

1. THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IS NOT AN APPENDAGE OF THE EXECUTIVE

“I have been consistent in my complaints to all leaders of the APC, including Tinubu, that a situation where the National Assembly is not constructively engaged or carried along in key policy decisions, particularly those that will eventually require legislative approval, is not in the best interest of the nation. No genuine leader of the legislature will be comfortable that the Presidency will simply write a terse letter to the National Assembly on key issues which the federal legislature is expected to later deliberate upon and give its approval. The Buhari administration consistently treats the legislature with contempt and acts as if the lawmaking body should be an appendage of the Executive. To me, this is unacceptable.”

2. TINUBU HIMSELF HAS SUFFERED DISRESPECT FROM BUHARI’S GOVERNMENT

“Tinubu himself will recall that during the various meetings he had with me at the time he was pursuing reconciliation within the APC, I raised all the above issues. I can also vividly recall that he himself always expressed his displeasure with the style of the government and also mentioned that he had equally suffered disrespect from the same government which we all worked to put in office. I also made the point that whatever travails I have gone through in the last three years belong to the past and will not shape my decisions now and in the future.”

3. TINUBU HAS REVEALED THAT HE WOULD SUPPORT BUHARI ON A STRETCHER

“…the point of disagreement between Tinubu and I is that while I expressed my worries that there is nothing on ground to assure me that the administrative style and attitude would change in the next four years in a manner that will enable us to deliver the positive changes we promised to our people, he (Tinubu) expressed a strong opinion that he would rather ‘support a Buhari on the hospital stretcher’ to get a second term because in 2023, power will shift to the South-west… It is clear that while my own decision is based on protecting the collective national interest, Tinubu will rather live with the identified inadequacies of the government for the sake of fulfilling and preserving his presidential ambition in 2023. This new position of Tinubu has only demonstrated inconsistency — particularly when one reviews his antecedents over the years.”

4. TINUBU’S BEEF WITH SARAKI IS BECAUSE HE OPPOSED A MUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET IN 2015

“Again, let me reiterate my position that my uncertain and complex relationship with Tinubu has been continually defined by the event of 2014 when myself and other leaders of the APC opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket arrangement about to be foisted on the APC for the 2015 polls. It should be noted that he has not forgotten the fact that I took the bull by the horns and told him that in the interest of the country, he should accept the need for the party to present a balanced ticket for the 2015 General Elections in terms of religion and geo-political zones. Since that time he has been very active; plotting at every point to undermine me, both within and outside the National Assembly.”

5. TINUBU’S NEWSPAPER PUBLISHED A FAKE REPORT ABOUT SARAKI

“Members of the public will recall that when the issue of my decision to quit APC came to the fore and many APC leaders were holding meetings with me, a newspaper owned by the same Tinubu published a false report about the promise of automatic tickets, oil blocks and other benefits. I immediately rebutted their claims and categorically stated that I never discussed any such personal and pecuniary benefits with anybody. My challenge that anybody who has contrary facts should come forward with them still remains open.”

HealthAdvocacy Group Wants People To Stop Circumcision by torino88(op): 7:42pm On Aug 20, 2018
An advocacy group is protesting male circumcision on the streets of New York City in the hopes that the common procedure will no longer be carried out on infants.
Intaction - a play on the words intact and action - aims to convince American men, women, and doctors that neonatal circumcision is a violation of human rights.

The non-profit organisation was first started in 2010 and their mission statement, according to the Inaction
website , is “that every individual has the inalienable right to an intact body. Only an adult of majority age, with fully informed consent, can agree to needless and permanent body modification.”
Circumcision, or the removing of the foreskin from the penis, is one of the most common surgeries in America, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), which estimates the rate is somewhere between 76 and 92 per cent of men.

In America, there are various explanations cited in favour for the procedure, including health and hygiene reasons and as part of cultural and religious traditions.
According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC ), circumcised males are less likely to contract HIV, herpes, and human papillomavirus (HPV) from sex. Circumcision has also been linked to lower risks of certain cancers.

However, Intaction views the “abhorrent” practice as comparable to female genital mutilation (FGM), which is illegal in the United States and exists for the sole purpose of controlling female sexuality.https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/new-york-city-circumcision-america-protest-infant-sons-foreskin

CrimeEmployee Smuggled 22 Gold Pucks In His Rectum, (photos) by torino88(op): 4:33pm On Aug 17, 2018
A former Royal Canadian Mint employee who stole 22 cookie-sized pieces of refined gold by hiding them in his rectum has his $145,900 fine lessened in court.
Leston Lawrence, 35, was sentenced to 30 months in prison last year after stealing the pieces from the mint and selling 17 of them through Ottawa Gold Buyers.
At the time of his sentencing, Ontario Court judge Peter Doody ordered Lawrence to pay a fine of US $145,900 (CA $190,000), a fine that has been reduced.
Earlier this month, three judges ruled that Lawrence’s fine should be reduced by nearly $60,000 because the gold he stole was not as valuable when he stole and sold it as it was when he was ordered to pay it back, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
At the time of his sentencing, Lawrence was ordered to pay back nearly half the value of the gold, which was about $145,900.

He had three years from the end of his full sentence to pay it, and if he couldn't, he would have to be re-incarcerated for another 30 months.
In July, Lawrence's lawyers argued that the judge wrongly used the then-market value of the gold to determine the fine instead of the amount that their client had actually stolen.
According to his lawyers, the gold was only worth about $165,000 at the time Lawrence stole it. He was able to sell it for about $130,000.
Therefore, his lawyer argued that the fine was unfair because it was more money than it would have cost the mint to replace it.

In the end, the judges ruled that in order for Lawrence to avoid jail time he should have to pay back the amount he sold the gold for, which was $130,206.19.
At the time, Judge Doody noted there was no video of Lawrence stealing the 22 gold 'pucks' and there were no witnesses.
However, there was video of Lawrence setting off a metal detector while trying to smuggle out some of the gold.
Court testimony indicated that Lawrence was involved in purifying recently procured gold and sometimes worked alone, out of sight of security cameras, when creating the gold 'pucks'.
He worked at the mint from 2008 until March 2015.
In February 2015, Lawrence aroused suspicion in a bank employee after he asked to cash two checks worth $15,200 from Ottawa Gold Buyers.

He reportedly told the bank teller that he had sold 'gold nuggets' when she asked what the money was for.
The bank then tipped off police, who put Lawrence under surveillance.
Lawrence set off the metal detector more times than any other employee without metal implants, Doody said in his ruling.
But searches with hand wands never discovered the smuggled gold hidden in his body cavity.
Police seized a gold puck that Lawrence had sold and found four more in his safety deposit box.
Vaseline and latex gloves were later found in Lawrence's locker, which 'could have been used to facilitate insertion of gold itemshttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6068823/Canadian-mint-employee-35-smuggled-22-gold-pucks-rectum-fine-reduced.html?ito=social-facebook inside his rectum,'

PoliticsThe Nine Types Of People Supporting Buhari For 2019 by torino88(op): 5:42pm On Aug 13, 2018
Corruption is fighting back! That is the constant refrain from the people in government and their supporters to criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari or opposition to his re-election ambition. If, for example, you’re a journalist and you believe the President hasn’t done enough to earn a second term, it is because brown envelopes have been in short or no supply. If you’re a politician and you feel this way, you stole while in office or you will if you get there. All of us who have opted not to say ‘Sai Baba’ ahead of 2019 have one thing in common: corruption.
Fortunately for Buhari’s supporters, they can’t all be shoehorned into one homogeneous group. Who, who and who, or which classes of people, belong to this heterogeneous mix? And are they supporting their man in the country’s best interest?
The people in government: Around the time when former President Goodluck Jonathan was being told by some bigwigs in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he could not contest the 2015 presidential election because he had served out the remainder of the late Umaru Yar’Adua’s tenure (2010 to 2011) and was serving out a fresh term of his own (2011 to 2015), he met with Lagos-based print newspaper editors. When one of them asked him if he would re-contest or not, he neither said yes nor no. But he asked them to look into the mirror; the editorship of many of them predated his presidency yet they were still in office. He wasn’t chastising them but making a valid point about how self-perpetuation in power is intricately human. It is no surprise that the people in Buhari’s government are desperate to have him back in 2019 despite the numerous and obvious red flags. Buhari is not the reason they support Buhari; their real interests are self-serving. To expect people in government to priotise the nation over self is a tall order very few people are capable of. The people in this group we must empathise with, not chastise.
The political jobbers: Buhari’s ascent to power is widely believed to have wrecked individuals and businesses that thrive on political jobbing, government patronage and official graft. While this may or may not be true, there is no doubt that there are individuals all over the country whose financial stocks have risen either directly through Buhari’s coming to power or indirectly through the people working with him. No matter the scale of poverty, government ineptitude, insecurity and anti-corruption hypocrisy in the land, these people will give anything for another four Buhari years. The challenge with having people like this around is that you never know why they do what they do or say what they say about re-electing the President in 2019.
The face-savers : If, like me, you clamoured for Buhari in 2015 because you considered him the ‘lesser of two evils’ but he lost you along the way in his presidential reign, it’s not the end of the world — and few things are more honourable in life than admitting a mistake when one has been made. If Buhari let you down with his biased handling of security, sending soldiers to the South-East to finish off the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) without doing the same to terrorist herdsmen; or he slipped out of your good books with his bow-legged anti-corruption crusade, locking up corrupt opposition members with the speed of light but applying snail’s-speed treatment to similar elements in his cabinet, it’s not the end of the world and it’s not your fault. The people in this category are desperate to avoid the I-told-you-so smirk of Goodluck Jonathan’s supporters should they publicly express their disillusionment with Buhari. In here are people who are either against Buhari in private but with him in public, or are with him both ways but are constantly in a struggle with themselves on whether their choice is indeed right.
The PR strategists : These are about the deadliest of Buhari’s supporters — not because they can kill but because they can be sat right next to you but you won’t know, and also because they’re, more often than not, brilliant. They speak fluent English, write flowery prose and present mesmerizing arguments. However, for them, supporting Buhari is not about personal conviction but about professionalism in garnering public support for their candidate. There are so many of them dotting the social-media space. These guys are only just doing their job; nothing more.
The religious fanatics : These are the opportunity-cost supporters. Some love Buhari because they love him, others simply because of the Yemi Osinbajo factor. They are a blend of the two leading faiths — Christians who would support Buhari or any other President for that matter so long his deputy is a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor; and Muslims who won’t stop chanting ‘Sai Baba’ even if pump price of petrol were to rise to N600/litre. To them, Buhari can be the opportunity cost of having Osinbajo in government, and they do not mind at all.
The ethnic jingoists : They want a Hausa-Fulani as President in 2019; simple. Not much needs to be said about this group, easily recognizable on social media by their names. We all have one or two of them on our timelines, don’t we?
The northern foot soldiers : These are a huge majority of the 12.7million people who voted for Buhari in 2003 or the 12.2million who did in 2011. In the last three years, nothing has changed about Buhari’s popularity in the North. As seen by the mammoth crowds that welcomed him during his recent visits to Bauchi, Jigawa and Kano, Buhari is still the most loved northerner alive. Pure, blind love. One of them trekked from Yola to Abuja to witness the presidential inauguration in 2015, but while he’s currently stuck at the Yola FMC due to a leg injury he sustained from the expedition, his “political role model” is re-energising himself in the UK. Still, whether or not Buhari extends his current 10-day vacation by 100 days, these people will vote him in 2019.
The APC supporters : Had Buhari been the PDP candidate, these people wouldn’t support him. But their loyalty belongs to the party and, by extension, its candidate. In this class also are people whose uncles, aunts, second cousins, in-laws, bosom friends, brother of their sugar daddy’s nephew or father of their friend’s sister’s husband, is contesting for some office in 2019 under the APC ticket. How dare you seek the party’s ticket without backing the President?
The naivetés : It’s honestly hard to blame them. They genuinely lack the ability to analyse issues beyond the surface. In their minds, Buhari is truly fighting corruption, bolstering the economy, killing off Boko Haram, providing exemplary leadership and putting food on the poor man’s table. And, above all, corruption is fighting back!
So, when next you run into someone who just doesn’t understand that Nigeria deserves better than Buhari in 2019, don’t get mad at them. Run through these nine groups and you will find one that best suits them, and you can therefore understand how their mind is working. And if you find some who fit into none of these nine groups, please feel free to create a tenth group for themhttps://www.thecable.ng/nine-kinds-people-supporting-buhari-second-term
