Romance / S£x With Someone You Don't Live With Is Now Illegal In UK by Toriperisc: 8:32am On Jun 02, 2020
UK citizens have been banned from having sex with anyone outside of their own household under new coronavirus lockdown legislation rolled out by the Government.
The UK government on Monday June 1, introduced new measures that ban people from socialising indoors with anyone not already in their household.
The new regulation reads: ‘No person may participate in a gathering which takes place in a public or private place indoors, and consists of two or more persons.’
Previously, anyone who goes inside another person’s home would be breaching the lockdown rules but now both persons could be prosecuted under the new amendment to the The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations 2020 bill, that was tabled before Parliament on Monday.
According to the new rules, only those with ‘reasonable excuses’ will be allowed to meet privately indoors, which does not include meeting up to have sex.
Reasonable excuses include jogging or exercising for elite athletes, movement of vulnerable people and key or essential workers.
Other people that can give reasonable excuses include people that meet in a private space for childcare, separated parents who live in different households seeing their children, people providing emergency assistance and those attending a funeral.
Police forces in the UK have been told to disperse any large groups and use fines and arrests 'where appropriate' as a last resort - but they can only 'direct' someone to go home and have 'no powers' to remove someone by force, the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and College of Policing have said in a joint paper.
Their advice to officers also makes clear that the new coronavirus guidelines /laws 'provide no power of entry.' Downing Street has also been clear that police do not have the power to enter gardens to check party numbers.
The new regulations comes after a study by researchers at the universities of Anglia Ruskin and Ulster, showed six in 10 Britons have gone without having sexual activity during lockdown.

~MITCHEL~

” Billy what did you say ?” I ask

” I’m really sorry Mitch , but my boss ain’t available.”

” You gon’ listen to me man , you will go to your boss and tell him I ain’t playing s*** with him. Where the **** is my money ?” I growl.

” I’m sorry , he says we didn’t get to supply them.” Billy says.

I laugh and turn to look at tom who Chuckle. I Chuckle silently and turn to look at Billy who was frowning.

” Where’s your boss ?”

” Miami.” He replies.

” You gon’ give him a message.” I wink at tom as he shot the guy on his upper arm.

He groan and fell on the ground.

” You gon’ tell him that Mitchel says he should ****in pay me my money , or I don’t mind going after him in Miami and **** his ass up. Did you hear me ?” I yell and he nods quickly.

” Good , get the **** out of my side.” He got up and storm out with his bleeding arm.

” Call Jeremy.” Tom nods and walk out.

.

~GOLD~

.

Mom has been crying since the day Emily died. Aunt Elna , was there to console , it was nice she showed up. I was still sad and angry for her crazy choices. A masked stupid red haired killed her.

I stay in my room and tried to get busy in order to stop thinking. I just wished I could meet this Mitchel , maybe a chit chat would solve everything. I don’t mind beating the hell outta him even if he’s ****in popular.

” I really need to speak with gold…” A woman’s voice yell at the doorway of the living room.

” Can you please calm down…” I heard aunt Elna’s voice.

” Calm down ? Did you see what she did to my daughter ?” The woman yell.

It was then it dawn to me that , it was ayanda’s mom. I shake my head and rush down stairs.

” Is it my fault her sister was a LovePeddler ? How’s it my daughter’s fault? She has no right to beat up my daughter because of her sisters wrong steps. It was obvious her sister was a one night…..”

” One night what ?” I ask and push pass Aunt Elna.

” Go on , say it. One night what ? You dare open your mouth and called my sister a one night stand and I don’t mind smacking my hand right on your face.” I yell.

” Gold.. it’s okay…” Aunt Elna persists.

” No it’s not okay. Her LovePeddler daughter advised Emily to get rid of her child. What kind of friend is that ? You won’t come to my house and call my sister a one night stand or I don’t mind shoving a dagger into your assess.” I yell.

” What ? Is that a threat or what ? You won’t do that.”

” Dare me. Take this nonsense you called a daughter and teach her some manners or I don’t mind doing it for you.” She scoffs to my speech and turn to look at ayanda who was crying.

” I don’t blame you , I’ll leave.” She says and pull ayanda out.

” Gold , you should never raise your voice on a mother.” Aunt Elna scold closing the door.

” She’s not a mother. She’s evil and wicked.” I say and sits down.

” Look , listen to me , ayanda might have been a bad influence doesn’t mean her mother is responsible for her daughter’s behavior. You should let go. I know it hurts , that connection between you and your twin but it’s not over. NYU should be on your head. You need to make your mom proud.” She says and pat my shoulders.

” Thanks.” I reply wiping my tears.

” I’ll make dinner.” She says and walk out of the living room.

I hate Mitchel and I don’t ****in care who he is. Why is he so cruel ? Deceived her , took her virginity and forced her to get rid of her ****in child. In one way I really don’t blame Mitch but Emily. I tried to talk to her but her Jezebel best friend is always there to talk nonsense into her head.

Next week Monday I’ll be traveling to New York and a new life awaits me. I just hope I don’t get to meet any redhead men , I don’t mind transferring aggressions.

.

~JASON~

.

” I just wanna get laid.” I mutter to Jake who’s my friend i guess.

” You own new York , getting laid shouldn’t be difficult. I could bring someone if you want.” He advise.

I Chuckle and brush my hair backwards.

” Yeah I know.” I silently replies.

” And Veronica ?”

” We’re just having fun , messing around with each other. She’s too annoying.” I say and smirk at Jake.

” Annoying ?” Talk of the devil as she walks in.

” Hi Jake.” She push pass him and drop her bag on the couch.

” I missed you , but why will you gossip about me and call me annoying ?” She asks and roll her eyes .

” You know that’s the truth. It would be nice if you stop acting like my girlfriend. Let’s know our space.”

” You don’t have to remind me Jason , I don’t care.” She kissed my cheek and proceed to walk to my room.

” We’re making out tonight , I brought condoms no excuses.” She says and walk out .

” Happy getting laid.” Jake mocks and smirks. I scoff at him and he gently tap my back before walking out of my living room.

Why do I have to get stuck with her ? She’s so annoying and selfish.

.

~MITCHEL~

.

” I want you to donate 20 million dollars to the orphanage and get all their available needs checked. I’m really not in a good mood this past few days.” I say to Tom.

Tom is almost like my older brother even if he works under me. He nods and walk out. I fake a smile and sits down.

” Mitchel…” A familiar voice calls.

I turn to look at my doorway and it was Tionna. What does she wants now ?

” What do you want ?” I ask without sparing her a look.

She chuckles and sit right next to me caressing my hair.

” It’s so weird you are not smoking today.” She says softly and I chuckle.

” Tionna what ?”

” I missed you.”

” You’re getting married.”

” And that’s not an excuse.” She spits.

” Of course it’s not an excuse. Jeez you’re getting married to Andrew , my useless father.” She rolls her eyes at me and remove her shoes.

” You know all that but you still have your way with me. I want you more than anything. It’s just too weird I’m addicted to you.” She whispers sitting on my laps.

She rock her hips back and forth and Chuckle to nothing in particular.

” Just get up.” I say softly.

She smirks and kissed me. She bit my lips and gently place my hand on her waist.

” Seriously..” Allison’s voice startled us and Tionna didn’t even bother to stand up.

” Mitch , what are you doing ?” Allison asks and I just kept quiet.

” Tionna , get out.” Allison yell.

” I won’t take take orders from you. Dude , go get yourself a boyfriend.” Tionna replies still sitting on my lap.

Allison swell her eyes and drag Tionna out of my legs and pushed her out.

” Dirty slut.” Allison yell throwing her shoes at her. I take a deep breath and turn to look at Allison who was standing at the doorway with crossed arms shooting daggers at me.

” It’s not what you think..” I manage to say.

” Yeah.. f****** your father’s soon to be bride. The fact that you’ve something with her doesn’t mean you have to continue. I know you’re inhuman but it would be nice if you cultivate a little dignity. Idiot..” she says and walk out .

” Seriously…” I scoff and sigh. What did I do wrong ?

.

~GOLD~

.

Well, since Emily left mom hasn’t been really cool. She’s always thinking. Every single day she curse Mitchel for everything. I hate him more. And you know what I discovered on the net , that people with red hair are naturally disgusting , proud and selfish. It’s in their DNA.

I just hope I get to see Mitchel because I hate him. I cried my eyes out that day , I watched her body leveled beneath the ground. My mom wail loudly but aunt Elna hold her tight consoling her. I walk out on them and let the priest continue with his prayers on Emily’s lifeless soul.

What a world.

” Gold , I’m sorry..” Ayanda’s voice was the last thing I wished to hear.

” You still have the guts to show your face here ?” I yell pointing my fingers at her.

” You planned with Mitchel bulls*** to kill her. You were envious of her. If I were you , I won’t be standing in my face. Get out.” I yell with tears in my eyes.

” It’s not what you think.” She plea.

” Yeah true. She’s really crazy , why would she even lay with him ?” I bit my thumb and slapped ayanda.

” You ****in advised her to **** that b******.” I yell.

” Gold…” Sympathizers ran into the scene but i quickly walk out.

A new life awaits me in New York. I really don’t care what it holds but I promise to make it count. I just hope I don’t see more people with red hair , I don’t mind freaking out and going wild.

I pull out my box and starts to empty my closet. Emily might have made a stupid mistake but she will always be my twin. And I just hope whatever place she’s right now , I hope she finds peace.

And I hope i don’t fall in love either. And not with a redhead. They suck !

Episode 7

~GOLD~

I sit close to the window in a cafe staring at this weird people smiling and laughing at each other.

” Couples..” I mutters.

I pick up my phone and switch it on. It took time to reset and the first thing that got my attention was a voice message from emily and two missed calls from Emily and thirty missed calls from mom.

” This is serious.” I called Mom and her raspy voice almost threw me off guard.

” Mom , are you okay ?” I ask. Her voice was croak and occupied by tears.

” You need to come to Central hospital right away. Emily isn’t okay.” I jump up at once and race out of the cafe.

” I’m coming.” I shouted and hang up.

What happened to Emily. My attention divert to her voice message. I place my earphones inside my phone and listen to the message.

I hail a cab and rushed in. I went dumb when I listen to her message and the pain in her voice. The cab halt in front of the hospital. I jump down and called my mom for the direction to Emily’s ward.

I rushed in and saw my mom crying. A nurse covered Emily’s body with a white sheet and i barely could understand what’s going on.

” What happened ?” I ask no one in particular.

My mom fell on the floor and fainted.

” Somebody help ” I shouted.

The nurses around gathered around my mom and carried her to god knows where. I look at Emily who was covered with white sheet. I’m not a kid and I wasn’t ready to believe any of this.

” Nurse , what happened ?” I ask the suppose nurse who covered Emily with a sheet.

” Your sister is dead….” It sounds funny but I couldn’t believe it even if it was obvious.

” She had an abortion and it wasn’t successful. Your mother rushed her in here few minutes ago and she didn’t make it.” The nurse continues and left the ward.

A set of people entered the ward and carried her body out . Emily’s dead . She did an abortion. She was pregnant for a mask redhead celebrity. I couldn’t picture everything , i was sad and crying.

I race out of the hospital and down to ayanda’s. She cause almost everything. If not 100% , she cause 30% of it . She advised Emily to get rid of it. I hated Mitch and hated ayanda more. Stupid bad friend who talk to her about it.

” Ayanda..” I call her name as i entered their living room.

There she was , sitting on top of a boy’s lap flirting. Dirty idiot.

” Get out..” I said dragging the boy up.

” I don’t get it , what’s up with you ?” He inquire.

” Gold what’s happening ?” Ayanda ask.

” Get out…” I flared staring at her suppose **** mate.

He scoff and refused to move since i wasn’t sounding normal.

I dug out a pocket knife from my jean and slice it down at the guys bare chest.

” ****…” He shouted looking down at his bleeding chest.

” Oh my God , Gold please…” Ayanda plea almost on her knee.

Before I could say ” out ” the guy already ran out. I turn to look at ayanda who was already sweating.

” Gold please…” She pleads again.

” Ayanda why ?”

” I did nothing. She said I should take her to a place to help her get rid of it.” She cried. It was nice to know she’s not denying it.

” You ****in killed her.” I yell. She frowns at me. She isn’t aware Emily’s gonna die , I get it.

” I’m sorry…” She managed to say.

I rushed to her and drag her out of her hiding place. She pleads but it all fell on deaf ears. I cut down her entire hair and made sure she looks bald.

I took a rope which I successfully bought on my way to her house. I tied her hand against her feet , thank God her mom wasn’t around , I don’t mind beating the hell out of her mom for not giving her proper training.

” Gold please I’m sorry…” I so hate to hear her voice. I seal her mouth with a seal tape to avoid further screaming. I made several cuts on her face and body till she starts to bleed.

I rush to her backyard and carried an amount of gas and poured it all over. I hate her since the very day I saw her in highschool. Emily’s crazy best friend with seven million boyfriends and a pit v*****. I took out a whip and slam it against her bleeding skin.

The thought of the pale girl covered with a white sheet in a hospital bed flashed in my head. The anger in me grew wild and I slam the whip on her skin harder. I stop beating the hell out of her and storm out of her house .

I couldn’t go home straight , I stop at a pub and stayed there thinking about Emily’s terrible mistake . I missed her , that pain of loosing someone so dear to you. We might not be the best twin when it comes to relationship but she was so dear to me.

Mitchel Cooper bulls***. I went home that evening and saw mom lying on her couch , she was crying really bad. Aunt Elna was sitting next to mom including every other members and neighbors.

I walk passed them and head to my mom. So Emily’s really gone. It was so hard to believe and too heavy to take in.

.

He is so young and perfect.

He smells wealth and really good looking. He is accompanied by his convoy as he walk into the strip club. Cardi b “Money” was blaring through the large speakers.

The dance floor was occupied by different people as he made his way through to the vip quarters.

” Get me a girl.” He said to tom as he sits down.

Tionna walk into the vip quarters dressed in a sparkly tight dress that was revealing. Her perfect curves and large hips were visibly seen within the fabric. She was a real definition of a Russian goddess. She was glowing and her perfect nude make over was glowing.

A smug grin curled up at the corner of her lips. She smirks and sits close to Mitchel who was smoking a pipe. She crossed her legs and snatched the pipe from Mitchel.

” Long time Cooper.” She teases.

” What do you want ?” He ask looking at her.

” I want you boyfriend. I missed you ” she whispers tugging her fingers in his hair.

” Tionna you’re getting married ” he states.

” You miss me , don’t you ?” She whispers and puff the smoke from the pipe behind Mitchel’s ear.

He smirks and she grins , yeah right he likes it. He look up at his guard who was lost in checking the Russian goddess who was already wrapped around Mitchel. He look away and stand place his hands behind his back.

” I know you miss my body..” she whispers and kissed his neck.

” Is that why you left ? To date my father.” She Chuckles on his hair and look up at him. With his perfect eyes staring at her.

” Stop acting like you missed me. We were only playing a game of sex. You don’t love me , Cooper’s don’t love.” She says as he Chuckles to her quite remorseful remark.

She was still on his laps grinding back and forth to the music. Nicki Minaj’s ” Hard White ” was now blaring from the speaker.

” Let’s use my car.” She says and smirks at him.

It sounds ridiculous to him , maybe because she was about getting married to a man called his father. Well likely not his father cause they barely get along. She smirks to this defeated Mitchel smiling down at her cleaveages that was expose.

She stands up and hold his arm pulling him up.

” Tom , I’m busy .” He says still clinging to tionna’s hand.

” Don’t bother to come looking for him , he will be fine.” She said to tom who later avert his look to his boss.

Mitchel nods as Tionna pulled him out of the vip hall. She took him to a bedroom located at the top of the strip club. It was also a nice achievement because , Mitchel owns the strip club.

.

She slam the door close as she aggressively kisses him removing the black jacket he was wearing. He kisses her savouring her lip with his tongue. He caress her back and moved down to her bottom. He unzips her dress and she quickly step out of as it fell to the floor.

” I hate this..” she said throwing away the mask on Mitchel’s face.

She kissed him touching the bulge in his trousers gently pushing him to the large bed. She hover over him and kissed his chest down to his stomach taking his belt off.

Tionna moved down taking off his trousers as she quickly unclad herself. She held tight to his length whipping her mouth in and out of it. He moans her name and she smirks. She always knows his soft spot and she likes it.

Mitchel brought out a pack of condom from his jacket as Tionna quickly snatch it from him and she quickly slide it in . She lean on him and kissed him as she stare at his eyes that was already prepared for her.

He held her hips and bent over thrusting in and out of her as she move her hips back and forth on top of him. He sits up and kiss her holding tight to her waist as he quickly spin her around hovering on top of her. They exchange kisses and she moan on his mouth tugging her manicured fingers on his hair.

His eyes was filled with lust , and some what love and desperation. He collapsed on her chest as they both tried to hold back their breath.

Tionna’s phone rang as she stretched to get it. Mitchel got up and lay beside her.

” Your father’s calling.” She mutters picking up her phone.

” He’s not my father…” He groans and turn his back against her.

.

He might not have regretted what he did maybe because, she was likely his ex sex mate and a mistress to his father. His heart his filled with fury , he’s bothered about the girl he got pregnant.

That wasn’t likely him , he hates women.

.

I stayed in my room locked up as the thought of abortion flow through my mind. I was scared , that i was gonna die. Even if God decides to overlook it , I might not be able to conceive. That fear of not able to give birth.

Same time , I can’t give birth to a b****** child. If he grows up what am I gonna tell him ? That your supposed father calls me a one night stand and ask me to abort you. Mom will be really ashamed of me. I thought about new York and that joy to finally go to college.

Why didn’t I listen to gold ?

Why was I so occupied with Mitchel bulls*** ?

Jeez , he said it to my face after getting in between my legs and taking away my v-card.

One night stand huh ?

I cried and tug my face in the pillow. Ayanda was always good at giving terrible advise and it always sound interesting. One thing in me wanted to tell Gold but I thought about mom. Of course she will tell mom. Loud mouth.

” It’s no big deal.” Ayanda states .

” You can’t allow Mitch to kill your young dream by tying you up with a child. I got pregnant too remember ? Junior year in highschool.” She snapped at me clicking her fingers.

” It didn’t hurt. I can’t just watch a man try to tame my life with a child he isn’t ready to take care of. You gotta get rid of it just like I did. It won’t hurt.”

” I will take you to somewhere , it will be easier and safer.” She continues.

I sigh and hug my knee. A baby for a Mitchel.

.

~ MITCHEL~

.

I remembered the last call I had with Emily. Why was I feeling guilty like I committed a huge crime. I hate kids and I wasn’t ready to father one now.

I lit another round of cigarette and inhale the smoke. I flung myself on the couch and thought about the blood stain on the bedspread. I huff and pace around. I don’t love her , I can’t even love anyone. Where on Earth should I start from in the name of getting a kid from a black girl. A one night stand.

” **** , I hate her…” I heard Allison’s voice scream through the passage way.

My door flung open as Tobias made his way into my living room with Allison who was already relaxed on a couch. She removed her stilettos and flung them leaning her back against the chair.

” What’s going on ?” I asked.

Tobias collected the cigarette from my hand and poured a bountiful amount of whiskey on a glass.

” Sharon Stine , stupid actress who thought she could buy the leadrole Ryan Noels.” Allison spat.

” Leadrole, Ryan Noels ?” I asked extremely baffled.

” I’m shooting a movie soon , maybe next month or two with the title STRIP SISTERS. Ryan Noels Is the supposed leadrole but Sharron Stine wants it. Why is Hollywood filled with slimy v*****s.” Allison yelled.

” You really need to get laid.” Tobias muttered drinking the wine.

” I’m just fed up and tired with everything. Dad and all that boring stuff. Truth is being wealthy can be really boring sometimes.” Allison said and scoff.

” I’ll agree with you on that.” Tobias said and sat down.

” Tobie , stop being a **** and be normal for once.” Allison snapped.

” Every single family of Cooper needs true love, it’s gonna help. We all need that special someone we could talk to , crawl to and cuddle on his/her arms . With love around being wealthy isn’t boring. Truth is the Cooper’s are boring and not wealth.” He said as he finally drowns the whiskey on his glass.

” So , have you finally find this love ?” Allison asked.

I chuckle as my subconsciousness carries a popcorn and sits at the front role to watch this drama.

” Na , she’s on her way. In Miami , taking a chopper to New York.” Tobias said and winked.

I laugh and totally forget I got a weird news today from a girl i just had fun with.

” Just shut your alcoholic mouth. We already have two much trouble to deal with. Tionna and a lot more. God knows what to expect next .” Allison said getting up to get a glass.

” I think Tionna is the biggest for now.” I finally spoke out.

” Who marries their ex boyfriend’s fathers ?” I added.

” Tionna, Tionna Petrov.” Tobias joked as we laugh.

” I’m going out , talk later sweet siblings.” Tobias said and walked out.

I let a huge sighed and turned to look at her Allison.

” I need to tell you something.” It’s so weird she’s my best friend and my only companion in my entire life. Some times I totally forgot I’m older than her.

” What is it ?” She asked sitting down.

” I got a girl pregnant.” I whispered.

” You what !” She shouts. I swelled my eyes at her as she covered her mouth.

” She’s African. I met her when i travel to SA.”

” What the **** is wrong with her ?” Allison quaried .

” I don’t know. She was a virgin.” I spat.

” A what ?”

” It’s kinda weird. I really don’t know how I managed to have fun with her. Why would they think I’m willing to love , I don’t even know what that s*** looks like.” I admit.

” What are you gonna do ?” Allison asked sitting close to me.

” I told her to her get rid of it. I don’t need a baby.”

” I hope she understands your reason. It’s so annoying when girls try to come up with such scandalism about pregnancy because my redhead brother is ****in cute.” She says and ruffles my hair.

” Alli , stop , I’m not a kid.” I said Chuckling.

” Yeah I know. You have a Yacht . Not every single new Yorker can actually afford a Yacht.” She teased and wink.

I Chuckle and sweep my hair backwards. Allison always reminds me of my mom. Her redhead and her eyes , everything was just my mom.

” You should stop kidding about that yacht bulls***.” I said as she Chuckle.

” I hope i can.” She says and wink.

” I need to borrow your bathroom brother.” She says standing up carrying her shoes. I nod and she walk out.

My phone buzz and it was will.

” Speak.” I said on the phone.

” Got a call from Ben, boss.” Will said on the phone.

” Tell him I’m not ready , deliver the rest to Italy. I wanna be alone now , no business calls please.” I could feel Will nods on the phone.

” Alright boss.” He says and I hang up.

I toss my phone on the couch and pick up another cigarette to bore my boring time. I light the cigarette and puff out the smoke staring at my transparent wall thinking about the girl who got pregnant for me. It’s kinda weird , I’ve never heard such painful news before.

What if she’s just lying. Girls suck..

.

~ EMILY~

.

Ayanda was always talking about getting rid of the child. Why did I have to be so stupid. I barely eat cause the day Mitchel gave me that terrible news of getting rid of my child , i totally lost my appetite for food.

I thought about NYU.

My love for college.

Imagine dropping out of college if mom finds out about my stupidity.

I was caged in my own boring fantasy.

I spend almost everyday crying and thinking.

The thought of abortion always send cold down my spine.

Maybe I really need to , no one’s gonna find out and that includes my mom and sister gold.

” Emily..” Gold calls knocking on my door.

I quickly clean my eyes and turn to look at.

” Yeah..”

She smiles halfway and slouched into my bedroom. We might not have a dad but we lived the best lives ever. Our house and supposed college. NYU wasn’t any typical college , it was expensive.

” You’re okay ?” Gold ask.

” I’m fine , why ?”

” You look like who’s been crying for days.” I Chuckle to her correct guess .

” I’m fine.” I lie.

” You’re not.” What’s up with having a twin sister. I frown and look away.

” You can talk to me.” She insists.

” I’m fine , just go. I wanna be alone.” I said turning my back against her.

” Emily..”

” Get out..” I yell without sparing her a look. She won’t understand. That pain of being rejected and you’re ****in pregnant for the ****in person that got you pregnant.

My door slam close and I was sure she has left. I turn around and truly she has left. I slump on my bed and thought about calling ayanda to get rid of this bad luck called Mitchel.

.

****

The house was empty when I entered on Saturday evening. Ayanda held me slowly and carried me upstairs since i just get rid of my pregnancy. I was weak and weary.

She drop me on my bed and drop my medication since the doctor ask me to take it , in the name of easing the pain.

” Will you be okay ?” Ayanda ask and I just nod.

” I will take my leave , call me if you need anything.” Ayanda says and I nod again trying to keep up with the pain.

She smiles and walk out of my room. I sat up and tried to reach for the bottle water sitting on my nightstand. I look down at my feet and discovered I was bleeding.

” Oh my God..” I whimper.

The ache in my abdomen increased and for once I thought i was gonna die. I crawl to the couch on my room to get my phone. The bleeding increased and the pain was severe , I was loosing it.

I cried but it was all in vain, I was alone and dying. I managed to get hold of my phone and quickly called my mom. She wasn’t picking up. I scream and poke my abdomen that was hurting more and more. I was covered by my own blood and I felt I won’t live to see the next minute.

I called gold and her voicemail replied. I scream and slam my fist to my bed , I was still on the floor bleeding. I called ayanda and she didn’t pick up same as gold , her voicemail was the only thing that replied me.

” Gold , if you get this , I’m sorry I pushed you out. The night Mitchel Cooper visited I had my way with him. I discovered I was pregnant and I was totally scared to tell you or Mom instead i told ayanda. I called Mitchel and he called me a one night stand , he said I should get rid of it…..” My breath was fading and my stomach was hot.

” Ayanda took me to a place and I got rid of it. Gold I’m dying , I’m bleeding. I might not live to see the next minute. If you get this message please come home quickly….” I felt a strong pain in my abdomen as my phone fell off my hand.

I tried to scream but no I couldn’t. I fell to the ground and everything was void.

.

“. Where are you coming from ?’ mom asked as Emily flinched.

” Gold..” she muttered as she stare at us. I know she’s surprised to see me.

” You’re back..”

” Emily , I ask you a question. Where are you coming from ?” Mom asked.

” I went to party.” Emily said.

Mom Chuckle and begin to loosen up her sleeves.

” Mom please let her be.” I said as I held my mom.

” What do you mean ? She slept in a man’s house after all my warning.” Mom yelled.

” It’s okay , I’ll talk to her myself.” I pleaded.

Mom glared at Emily and walked out on us.

” You went to **** Mitch right ?” I asked.

” Oh shut up.” She uttered and walked out of the living room.

I hope something good comes out of this nonsense she calls feelings. I shake my head and left for my room.

Later that day ayanda visited Emily as they talked about last night trash. I stood beside her door and made sure I wasn’t noticed.

” Did you use protection ?” Ayanda asked.

” Not at all. I took pills this morning. It’s my first and it felt so good.” Emily said.

I rolled my eyes and scoff. People give their first self to the man they truly love but Emily gave hers to a masked celebrity that’s so weird.

” Did you see his eyes ?” Ayanda asked.

” Yeah , he was so cute. His eyes sparkle and I wished we could do it all over again. I missed him already.”

” Then you have to check on him today , hang out with him before he finally leaves.”

” And I like that idea.” Emily said and they both laugh.

I walked into the room uninvited as they both flinched.

” Emily what is wrong with you ? You’re going back to that hotel to get ****ed again huh ?” I said as Emily huff.

” I really don’t see reasons why you care all of a sudden.” She said and rolled her eyes.

” Dirty little slut.” I said and hissed.

” **** you , you’re the slut here. A stupid highschool drunk deceived you and used you , what did you do huh ! What’s your business with who i hang out with ? Just be straight ‘ Emily , I’m jealous that you had to sleep with Mitchel Cooper’ and I will have to tolerate you till you chose to mind your business.” She yelled.

” Did you just…” I said glaring dagger at her.

” Yeah right ? What are you going to do ? You shameless dirty **** face.” She yelled at me and that’s it.

I punched her face as she fell on her bed bleeding.

” Gold.” Ayanda called but I angrily slapped her.

” You daughter of a….” Emily yelled. I held unto her blouse and continuously punched her face making her light skinned face turn red.

” Gold…” Mom called and held me tightly.

” Leave me alone let me beat the hell outta her.” I yelled and pushed my mom aside. Emily jerked up and ran to the bathroom.

” Golden.” Mom called and held my hand.

” She called me a slut , did you hear that ?”

” It’s okay.” Mom said.

” Ayanda , go home.” Mom said as she ran out.

” Emily come out , we need to talk.” Mom shouted as she whimpers..

****

I sighed as Emily and i exchange angry glances.

” Gold you’re up ” mom said.

” I came back from Aunt Elna and i was happy to see her , I never knew she went over to Mitchel’s.” I said.

” Who’s Mitchel ?” Mom asked.

” Emily should answer that.”

” He’s a celebrity.” Emily replied.

” A celebrity ? From where ?” Mom asked staring at Emily.

” He’s an American.” I said.

” An American ? I don’t get it , what his he doing here ?” Mom asked.

” A tour.” Emily said.

” Then what are you doing with him ? I mean how did you get to meet him ?” Mom asked.

” Like I said he’s a celebrity. We just hang out last night , there’s nothing wrong in hanging out with a celebrity.” Emily said and shrugged.

” Then why did you call gold a slut ?” Mom asked as she sighed.

” I’m sorry.” She said looking at the floor.

” I’m sorry for beating you up too.” I said. Emily frown and rolled her eyes .

” The least i can take from you both is fighting. Emily you’re grounded. I don’t really care if you’ll will sneak out through your window this time but I promise you you’ll have to leave my house. I can’t mother a child who won’t listen to me and my orders.” Mom said and walked out.

” You’ve seen what you’ve cost huh ? Looser .” She said and walked out too.

” Yeah right looser..” I said and sighed.

.

I lay on my bed and thought about Mitchel. Something in me wants to see him , I totally forgot I didn’t take his number. I rolled over in my bed and tried to make out yesterday scene in my bed , it was the best thing that has ever happened to me.

You won’t understand till you make out with your celebrity crush. I smiled and cuddle myself. I remembered we didn’t use any protection but thank God for birth control pills.

Later that night , I sneaked out of the house and board a cab to the hotel. I knock on the door and the guy of yesterday opened up and ushered me in. I saw Mitchel sitting on the couch smoking weed. Who knew he smokes.

” Tom , excuse us.” Mitchel said to the guy.

” Okay boss.” Tom replied and walks out .

” I didn’t ask you to come.” He said exhaling the smoke out of his mouth.

” I missed you.” I said softly making my way to were he was sitting.

He chuckled and kept the cigarette aside.

” You don’t have to miss me.” He whispered standing up. As usual he was wearing his mask.

” I couldn’t sleep last night , I was thinking about you.” I said touching his chest.

He smirked under his mask and touched my arm up to my cheek.

” I don’t date.” He whispered as my heart almost tear apart.

” I don’t care.” I said and stare at his eyes.

He lean closer to kiss me , I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. He held my waist tightly and touched my thighs slowly moving to my ass. It might sound weird but we make out again.

It was almost 9pm , I quickly got up and from his bed and hurriedly got dressed. Mitchel was at his balcony smoking that night.

” Hey I’m leaving.” I said to him.

He turned to look at me and nods striding to were I was standing.

” Becareful.” He whispered and kissed my cheek.

I smiled and walked out. Tom as usual drove me home. I sneaked through the back door but was stoned to the image that was glaring at me.

” Hey sis.” I said to her.

” Hey. ” she replied without sparing me a look.

” Goodnight.”

” Goodnight.” I replied and hurried to my room. I quickly took my bath and change into my pajamas and slump on my bed with yesterday’s scenario unfolding in my memory. Why does he feel so different ?

I wish I can travel to New York with him . If I can’t be his girlfriend then lemme be his mistress. I am in love with him but it will sound weird. I guess he will see me as a one night stand who’s after his supposed wealth. I held tightly to my blanket and tried to forget the first make out and yesterday’s.

.

I lean on the counter on the grocery shop and wait for my change. The sales attendant gave me my change and I walked out. My phone buzz and it was a message from Miranda. I so missed her , she might be really young but I think she’s smarter than Emily , my punk twin.

I Chuckle to her messages and grin , my tiny little bear.

” Gold .” That familiar annoying voice called. I look up to this nightmare standing in front of me. He was smiling again , that stupid seductive grin.

” Yeah , what ?” I ask him.

” I missed you. I’ve been looking for you and I ask Emily instead she chased me away.” He says.

” Oh my God.. are you for real ?” I ask and laughs looking at pathetic Fred.

” Fred, we are done. Look , whatever thing we had happened in highschool and it was a mistake. I was so stupid and naive. I let you kissed me once and get into my legs once , that’s my worst experience ever . Stop coming after me , I don’t mind killing you right now.” I spat.

” Gold I love you and I know you love me.. I’m sorry..”

” What the **** Fred . Did you even hear yourself ? You couldn’t even make me cum mother****a. I shouldn’t be talking to you.” I said and turn to leave.

His muscular hand held me , I dart my view at him and slapped him at once. Yeah right it hurts him cause he caress his cheek.

I picked a bottle from the floor and smashed it on the wall pointing the sharp edge at him.

” Don’t **** with me , I don’t mind shoving it down your throat.”

” I’m sorry okay.” He says and hurriedly rushed out.

” Boys…” I scream and slam the bottle on the floor.

I breathe in and out and tried to bury my temper. It sucks and I hate it. I clean my tears and find my way to my house.

.

I just took my college exams to NSU and it was really cool. It’s been three months since i last saw my monthly flow. After that last making out with Mitchel , I haven’t don’t anything with anyone. I was worriedly sick. Ayanda suggest I go for check up or maybe pregnancy test.

I can’t be pregnant and I was certain cause, i swallowed contraceptives. I mumbled in the doctor’s office thinking about my yet to come medical news, either bad or good.

” Miss Emily , you’re two months pregnant.” That news almost made me fall on the floor and collapse.

Is she for real ?

What am I going to tell my mom ?

That I had sex with an American celebrity and I’m ****in pregnant.

I lock myself against my room and cried , ayanda was there to console me. I didn’t tell gold even if she was my twin. I didn’t tell mom cause I was scared of her reactions. I was scared. Ayanda suggest I called him since i begged Tom the other day to give me Mitchel’s number against his will and I even paid.

It rings and he manage to pick up after the third ring.

” Hey Mitch…”

” Who’s this ?” He ask rather too cold on the phone.

” It’s Emily.” I said and sniff back my tears.

” Emily ? The girl I met in sa ?”

” Yes..” I squealed and nods like he was seeing me or something.

” What do you want ?” He asked and my heart almost leap out of it’s place.

” I’m .. I wanted to tell you something.”

” Go on, say it , I’m really busy.” He snaps at me.

” Mitchel , I’m pregnant.” I said in a whisper. A cold silence travel through the background.

” Am I responsible ?” His question hit me right in the chest.

” Mitch you took my virginity and now I’m stranded with a child growing inside of me. What am I gonna do ?” ” My mom needs to see you.” I lied as he huffs on the phone.

” Get rid of it. I don’t need a child now , you’re just a one night stand , what makes you think i can accept whatever thing you throw at me. I’m sorry , just take it away and don’t bother stalking my phone number.” He said silently and ends the call.

My phone fell off from my hand, i held my chest and tried not to cry loud. For real ? One night stand ? So I’m supposed to abort this child ? What have I done to my self ?

One night stand ?

Is Mitchel a devil in disguise ?

Abortion ?

” Emily , you don’t have a choice .” Ayanda’s voice coo. I face her and almost slump on the floor.

” You should abort it.” She adds.
Nairaland / General / Hope As Race For Coronavirus Vaccine Hots Up by Toriperisc: 12:46pm On May 18, 2020
Days of global harvest of deaths and mass coronavirus infections may be numbered as some vaccine candidates appear to be scaling requisite clinical hurdles, writes Associate Editor ADEKUNLE YUSUF
DETERMINED to save lives in a country with rising Coronavirus infections (5,621 confirmed cases and 176 deaths as at yesterday), President Muhammadu Buhari has directed appropriate agencies to embark on validation of an herbal mixture touted as cure for coronavirus. Although the World Health Organisation (WHO) has repeatedly said that it has not approved any drug or vaccine for treating coronavirus, many have hailed COVID-Organics from Madagascar as Africa’s response to the global pandemic that has no cure yet.
Nevertheless, the Madagascar’s herbal mixture has continued to dominate headlines, with Boss Mustapha, chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, disclosing this week that the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have been mandated to carry out clinical analysis of its efficacy before the herbal mixture could be allowed for treating patients in Nigeria.
Since researchers in China released the genetic sequence of the coronavirus four months ago, an all-out global race to develop a safe vaccine against the deadly virus has been underway. With over 4.7 million confirmed infections and 292,000 deaths worldwide, the stakes couldn’t be higher, as public health officials and world leaders say an effective vaccine or treatment against the virus is urgently needed to restart economies and resume normal living. Desperate to save lives, doctors around the globe have tried lots of existing drugs—from malaria medications to anti-influenza pills to Ebola treatments. Yet, such efforts to save patients from the ravages of the disease have yielded no blockbusters, as researchers are still testing hundreds of potential candidates in search of an elusive cure. This has opened the door for hundreds of frontrunners or potential vaccines in many countries, with each at different stages of clinical trials.
WHO tracking 8 vaccines in clinical evaluation
Last week, WHO said it was tracking eight potential vaccines for COVID-19 in clinical evaluation. These candidate vaccines included four from China, one from England, two from the United States and one from the European Union. The list also includes 100 candidate vaccines in preclinical evaluation, which means they are still being tested in test tubes or in animals. The previous version of the list, published on April 20, included 5 candidate vaccines in clinical evaluation and 71 in preclinical evaluation.
Also last week, New York-based pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced that it had begun testing a vaccine candidate for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The company said it went from pre-clinical studies in test tubes and animals to injecting humans with a possible vaccine in less than four months. The trials, which are taking place in the United States, are still in phase one testing. These test whether a potential vaccine is safe, has side effects and produces the desired response from the body’s immune system. Vaccines must go through phase 1, 2 and 3 testing before they can be licensed. Each phase involves larger numbers of volunteers.
Pfizer said it is working with German pharmaceutical company BioNTech on the candidate vaccine, dubbed BNT162. The company first tested it in Germany last month on 12 healthy adults. The two companies say they plan to test the candidate vaccine on 360 healthy volunteers in the United States. BNT162 is a messenger RNA vaccine that instructs cells to make a specific piece of protein to match what’s on SARS-CoV-2’s spike protein. The hope is the protein pieces will cause the body to create antibodies that will stop the virus from being able to attach to and invade cells.
In the United Kingdom, scientists at Oxford University’s Jenner Institute said they plan to test a candidate vaccine on more than 6,000 people by the end of May. If it is effective and safe, they could have millions of doses ready in a matter of months. Tests done in six rhesus macaque monkeys seemed to show the candidate vaccine was protective. Now phase one human tests have started. The university is partnering with the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to move forward with manufacturing should the candidate vaccine prove effective. Both have agreed to operate on a not-for-profit basis for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic, with only the costs of production and distribution being covered. Oxford University and its spin-out company Vaccitech, which jointly hold the rights to the technology used to develop the candidate vaccine, said they will receive no royalties during the pandemic.
In the United States, the first SARS-CoV-2 trial vaccine has been cleared to go into phase two testing by the Food and Drug Administration. The vaccine candidate by Massachusetts-based Moderna, touted as a potential vaccine that could be used if found safe and effective, is called mRNA-1273. It was first given to volunteers in Seattle on March 16 during the phase one testing. Reports had it that FDA has completed its review of Moderna’s Investigational New Drug application for mRNA-1273, which allows it to now proceed to phase two testing.
The study, which will begin enrolling 600 participants in the coming weeks, is designed to begin assessing whether or not the potential vaccine can induce a person’s immune system to produce antibodies that recognise SARS-CoV-2. With the news, Moderna pulls neck and neck with the current coronavirus vaccine leader, Oxford University’s Jenner Institute. Scientists there had a head start. Having already acquired safety data from human trials of similar vaccines for the related coronavirus that causes MERS, Oxford researchers convinced British regulators to push forward with a large Phase II study involving 6,000 people while the outbreak in the UK is still raging. The vaccine is based on a technology that involves genetically modifying a harmless virus to create a SARS-CoV-2 look-alike that doesn’t cause disease but does trigger an immune response.
Moderna’s vaccine candidate, which was developed in collaboration with scientists at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease, is made out of messenger RNA; hence the phrase mRNA in the vaccine’s name. This molecule is responsible for carrying the genetic recipes for making different proteins to a cell’s protein production factories. The version inside Moderna’s vaccine carries the instructions for making a little bit of the spike protein that SARS-CoV-2 uses to infect human tissues. The idea is that a vaccine recipient’s cells will produce this partial spike protein, which will train their bodies’ immune systems to recognise the virus and attack it the next time it shows up.
Still a new strategy, this kind of vaccine has never been approved for use or manufactured at scale. But Moderna’s safety trial, which began in March—the first SARS-CoV-2 vaccine to be injected into human volunteers—appears to have gone well enough that the FDA has greenlighted the next phase. It hopes to gain approval as soon as 2021, though Moderna’s not waiting for those results to start ramping up manufacturing. Last week, the company announced a 10-year partnership with Swiss drugmaker Lonza, which it expects to boost its production to tens of millions of doses per month in 2020 and hundreds of millions per month in 2021.
On the same day Moderna administered its first-out-of-the-gate vaccine, a company in China called CanSino Biologics got the green light to begin Phase I tests of two of its vaccine candidates. Like Oxford’s, they consist of a harmless viral vector that’s been genetically tweaked to look just enough like SARS-CoV-2 to trigger an immune response. In April, one of these vaccines entered Phase II, and researchers in Hubei province are now trying to recruit 500 people for the study. Other vaccine efforts are also showing early promise. Last week Monday, 15 healthy volunteers in New York received the first doses of an mRNA-based vaccine similar to Moderna’s, called BNT162.
Produced by Pfizer and a German pharma company called BioNTech, BNT162 is one of four genetic vaccine candidates the two companies are jointly developing to fight SARS-CoV-2. Over the next few weeks, the Phase I trial will enroll 360 people in four different research hospitals to see how safe these different variations are compared to a placebo. Researchers will monitor patients for the next two years, looking for signs of side effects as well as any antibodies their bodies produce against SARS-CoV-2. But since most bad reactions happen right away, the scientists should know in three to four months if the vaccine candidates are safe and have an idea of which one of the four works best.
At the University of Pennsylvania, researchers are also testing the safety of another genetic vaccine, produced by the nearby biotech company Inovio. Codenamed INO-4800, the vaccine is made out of synthetic DNA instead of RNA, though the principle is the same. Packaged into the DNA is a section of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Inovio is testing two doses of INO-4800 in 40 healthy volunteers split between UPenn and the Center for Pharmaceutical Research in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to these vaccine candidates, there are also two others currently in human trials in China. Both are chemically inactivated versions of the virus, one developed by Sinovac and one developed at the Beijing Institute of Biological Products. According to a list assembled by the WHO, there are a further 71 vaccine candidates that could soon follow.
Explaining the three stages of clinical trials
Most scientists believe that having a vaccine, which would teach people’s immune systems to recognize and fend off the virus before an infection can take hold, is what the world really needs right now. With widespread fears that the consequences of a prolonged global economic lockdown can be catastrophic, experts are of the view that everybody wins if an inoculated public could get back to work and resume normal life. However, developing a safe and effective vaccine against a new pathogen typically takes years, if not decades.
Generally, clinical testing comes in three stages. The first phase involves a few dozen healthy volunteers, Phase II expands to several hundred in an outbreak area, and Phase III repeats the experiment with several thousand. Then drug administration officials must review the data and decide if the shot is safe and effective enough to approve. But in the face of the current global pandemic, scientists, pharmaceutical companies, and regulators are sprinting at record-shattering speeds to test hundreds of vaccine candidates. Without clinical trial data, it’s impossible to predict which contenders will emerge from the onslaught of experiments as the most successful.
After scaling preclinical trials, the first test in testing an experimental drug or other treatment in human beings involves evaluating the drug’s safety and toxicity at different dose levels. Phase two testing is done with several hundred volunteers with the aim to see how the volunteers’ immune systems respond to the vaccine and whether it makes them immune to the disease. At this stage, safety and side effects are also studied before any vaccine candidate receives the nod to proceed to phase three testing. Phase three trials involve giving a vaccine to large numbers of people to see whether it works, whether it is safe and whether it has unknown or rare side effects. These can range from thousands to tens of thousands of volunteers.
In other words, when candidate vaccines make it to human clinical trials, they first go through Phase 1 trials primarily to test the vaccine’s safety, determine dosages and identify any potential side effects in a small number of people. Phase 2 trials further explore safety and start to investigate efficacy on larger groups. The final stage, Phase 3 trials, which few vaccines ever make it to, are much larger, involving thousands or tens of thousands of people, to confirm and assess the effectiveness of the vaccine and test whether there are any rare side effects that only show up in large groups.
World leaders pledge $8 billion for vaccine
Recently, in a video meeting hosted by the European Union, world leaders, nonprofits and celebrities responded to calls to fight the pandemic last week. They pledged $8 billion to fund laboratories working to develop and produce a vaccine. The money was for the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator or the ACT Accelerator, a collaboration between the WHO and governments, nonprofits, and industry worldwide. It was launched on April 24. They all pledged to work with and support the effort. However, the US was conspicuously missing in the cavalcade of donors, despite being a major contributor to global health initiatives.
“We know that as long as anyone is at risk from this virus, the entire world is at risk – every single person on the planet needs to be protected from this disease,” the collaboration’s mission statement said in part. The three-hour fundraising effort was like an old-fashioned telethon, with a leader from each country taking a few minutes on the video call to pledge money.
Still a long journey ahead
By some estimates, it is likely the world gets a vaccine in the coming months. Some say it could take longer than 18 months. Or scientists may not be able to manufacture a vaccine at all. But if scientists succeed, there will likely be enormous advantages for whoever controls it as the competition to be the first will likely engender a new wave of geopolitics the first country to the finish line will be first to restore its economy.
To this end, United States President Donald Trump is putting everything he’s got into a research effort dubbed Operation Warp Speed, which pulls together pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, and the military. So is China, which appears to have a head start at a time the two countries are already engaged in a fight for dominance in every aspect of global affairs. That is why development professionals are saying the stakes could not be higher for finding a vaccine against a virus that has claimed more than a quarter of a million lives and shattered global economies.
Although many world leaders are talking about global collaboration, it is obvious that national interests will dominate, as the government that can immunise its workforce first stands to gain in terms of economic advantage, validation of its technological prowess, and international influence. Both the US and China have played down talk of competition, no vaccine has ever been made on the kinds of schedules being targeted, which counted in months rather than years. President Trump said recently that the US is working with both Britain and Australia on vaccine projects, and wasn’t focused on geopolitics or who got there first. “I really don’t care. If it’s another country, I’ll take my hat off to them. We have to come up with a vaccine,” he said. American authorities said the US expects to be able to start manufacturing the drugs itself, whoever makes the scientific breakthrough.
However, still in the throes of the pandemic, signs of geopolitical rivalry have been obvious as the trust seems to be lacking among allies. The US has signaled that its own efforts are focused on protecting the American people first, which is primarily “to develop a vaccine for the people of the United States.”
But many believe China’s research process is, for now, more advanced, with a total of 508 volunteers joining a second phase trial for a potential vaccine that the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences is developing with a Tianjin-based company, CanSino Biologics. Results from the trial could be known as soon as this month. Also, Russia has at least four vaccine projects underway, including at Novosibirsk Vector. The goal is for Russia to make sure its own population has protection without being dependent on its rivals. Others are in the mix, too, with the UK saying that if a promising Oxford University project is successful, Britons will be at the front to the line. France and Germany are also leading the charge for a more cooperative approach, securing pledges of 7.4 billion euro ($8 billion) at a virtual Group of Twenty fundraiser on May 4; while the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has said it will build manufacturing capacity to make as many seven vaccines available even before they exist, an unprecedented effort to ensure wide and rapid availability

Technically , celebrity are mostly actors , actresses , filmmakers and most times musicians. I barely can tell were I get the parrazi from.

I got out of the chopper and smiled at the view called Africa. That was my first time stepping my feet here. Tom opened the car and i got in accompanied by my convoy. The car halt in a hotel as Tom got out to open up.

I was shocked to the bizarre standing right around my convoy.

” God why..” I muttered and tried to pass through the lane the guards managed to create.

I took a deep breath and smiled at my assumed room.

” Get the models , work start tomorrow.” I said to tom.

He nods and proceed to leave when I stopped him.

” Bring in a girl , no dark skin please. Brown , light or maybe chocolate.” Tom smirked and walked out closing the door.

I walked to the balcony and look around. Truly enough it was beautiful.

” Damn.. look at all this parrazi because of Mitch. He’s a God.”

” A young God.” I said to Miranda.

She huff and avert her look to the laptop.

” Heard his father , Andrew Cooper is getting married to Tionna Petrov , Mitchel’s ex girlfriend.” Miranda said as I rolled my eyes.

” I just hope Emily won’t stupidly fall for his invisible charms.” I muttered.

” It’s worth it.” Miranda replied. How could she hear that ?

” Miranda , there’s more dignity if a woman doesn’t throw herself on men. Every single woman has her own prince charming and they’re gonna find them.” I said combing my hair.

” I just don’t believe in love.” I said silently.

” Me neither.” Miranda said.

I stop combing and turned to look her. Is she for real ?

” What ? It’s the truth. Love barely exists , it mostly exist in romance teen novels and films , it’s so funny..” she said and grin.

” Okay , that’s enough. Go to take your bath.” I said standing up.

” But why ?”

” You know too much and you talk too much. Time to bathe.” I said lifting her up.

” Come on , it’s unfair.” She whined but I ignored her.

Mitchel Cooper a****le. I thought and carried Miranda to the bathroom.

” I need privacy.” She said softly sitting on the bathtub.

” Really ? You’re just a kid.” I said trying to take off her shirt.

” No way , I won’t allow that.” She said laughing smacking my hand endlessly.

” Miranda i cleaned your poop when you were six.”

” Da , it doesn’t matter anymore. I’ll be a woman soon.” She said and crossed her arms.

” Okay.” I said and switch on the tap as water flow freely into the bathtub.

” I can take it from here.” She said and winked.

” Sure.” I smirked devilishly and carried inside the bathtub making her entire body wet.

” What the hell.. Golden you’re mean.” She said and pretend to be angry.

” Shower..” I said and walked out of the bathroom.

I took a deep breath and slump on the bed. I turned around and saw Miranda’s laptop. Mitchel Cooper was displaying in her screen.

” Why so popular ?” I asked going through his info.

” Emily..” I muttered and closed the laptop. I called her number and she wasn’t picking.

” Yeah right , getting dressed for masked face Cooper.” I said and threw my phone aside.

” Chill , he’s gonna be your boyfriend soon.” Miranda shouted from the bathroom.

” Enough of the boyfriend talk.” I shouted back.

” ****…” I muttered and touched my forehead.

” I heard that.” Miranda said and I scoff.

I sighed and tried to hold back my nervousness because of what I heard.

” So it’s true..” I said breathing in and out.

” So what now ?” Ayanda asked.

” I’m getting laid tonight. I truly like him , don’t care if he’s a masked cute redhead , I just…”

” Wanna **** him..” Ayanda said and Chuckle.

” That wasn’t meant to be funny.” I said applying foundation on my face.

” Try and use protection , you don’t wanna get pregnant.”

” So, what’s wrong in getting pregnant for Mitchel ? He’s worth it.” I said smiling at my reflection.

I opened my closet and brought out a short black sleeveless dress and a black stilettos. I got dressed and smiled at my reflection. Partially , I’m going out on a date. I carried my purse and walk out of my room. I saw mom watching tv , she avert her eyes to were I was standing and frown.

” What is that ?” She asked referring to my dress.

” Erm.. I’m going out.” I said.

” You’re going out , dressed like that ? Is that human hair you’re carrying ?” Mom asked as I touched my hair.

” What’s going on ?” Mom asked.

” We’re just going out to a party , I’ll be back before ten. It’s just a party.” I said. Ayanda smiled and nod.

” Oh wow .. a party.” Mom said and Chuckle.

” You’re grounded , go to your room.”

” What ? Mom why ?”

” Because you’re grounded , you’re not partying.” Mom yelled.

” But maa…” Ayanda chip in.

” Go home , your mom needs you.” Mom said to ayanda.

Ayanda sighed and Walk out. I can’t believe I won’t see Mitchel , I will do anything just to hang out. I growled and barge to my room. I called ayanda and ask her to wait beneath my window.

I open the window and jumped down making sure I make no noise. Ayanda Chuckle as we ran into the streets. We got out of the cab and smiled at this view. It was one of the best hotels around. I touched my chest as ayanda and I walked in.

We entered the bar and ordered for drinks. Heard Mitchel lodge here and I hope I see him tonight. I was nervous and impatient to see him.

” Where is he ?” I asked Ayanda.

” It will be nice if you just try and calm yourself down. If you’re destined to meet him this night , trust me you’ll.” She said and i just smiled and nod.

Three hours later , a guy walk to my table and said someone wants to talk to me.

” Who ?” I asked.

” He’s in room 306 , he’s waiting.” He said and left.

” I don’t get it. I’m not a hoe. I mean , I just ask him who and he ignored me. What am I supposed to do ?”

” Go check him out.” Ayanda said.

I tilt my head in confusion and stood up finding my way to room 306. I walked upstairs and knock on the door. It opens at once , I took a deep breath and wished nothing bad happens. I walked in and saw a guy standing in the balcony of the room with his back against me.

I was scared as i swallowed a lump on my throat.

” Hello..” I called.

He turned around and I almost went paralyzed.

” Oh my God..”

” What ? You’re okay ?” He asked walking to were I was standing.

This should be a dream , I can’t believe I’m standing opposite Mitchel Cooper , my big time crush.

” Sorry , I’m … Erm..” I stammered.

” It’s okay.” He said and smiled.

It was all true , he was wearing a mask. But his eyes are perfect , glowing and smiling back at me. He touched my cheek and smiled.

” You’re nervous ?” He asked.

Of course I’m nervous. Are we about to make out ?

” I won’t hurt.” He whispered kissing my neck gently.

I gasp as my purse fell off my hand. Oh right , I’m falling with my dream man. He unzip my dress and touched my bare back slowly. He stare into my eyes and kissed me biting my lower lip.

I was unclad remaining my underwear. We kissed and I found myself on his bed moaning his name. He took off the mask he was wearing and switched off the bed side lamp. He took off the underwear I was putting on and kissed my abdomen down to my nipples.

I chuckled to the sensational feeling that was tingling.

” What’s your name ?” He asked.

” Emily.” I replied as he smiled at me.

All though it was dark in his room, but it was obvious he was a God , so good looking. His eyes sparkle and glows in the dark. I moan loudly as he thrust in and out. It hurts and I can’t hold back the tears. Mitchel Cooper just took away my v-card.

.
• NEXT MORNING•

.

I opened my eyes slowly and gasp to the bright light reflecting into my eyes. It was morning , oh no I spend the night.

” Oh my God.” I jerked up and look around , he was no were to be found.

I look down at the duvet and saw my naked self smiling back at me.

” This shouldn’t be a dream.” I thought.

I picked up my phone and frown at the Missed calls. My mom’s gonna kill me . Ayanda , mom and even gold. She must be worried , what am I gonna tell her ? That I was grounded but I sneak out and spend the night.

” Hey…” A voice greeted me. I look up and saw Mitchel standing close to the door that leads to the balcony. He was wearing his mask , so weird but cute.

” Hi , good morning..” I said shyly clinging to the duvet that covered my unclad self.

He smirked and look down at me.

” You’re okay ?” He asked and i just nods.

” Get ready , my driver’s gonna drop you off.” He said and proceed to leave but stopped to look at me.

” Why didn’t you tell me you haven’t been touched before ?” He asked as my heart leap to the ground.

” Huh…” He chuckled and smiled.

” it’s okay.” He said and walked out of the room.

I got up and quickly got dressed. A guy walk into the room and he was the the same guy who approached me last night.

” You’re ready ?” He asked and I nodded.

” Okay.” He said as I walked out and he accompany me.

I sat at the backseat alone , the guy sit at the passenger with the driver. I ask them to stop me few houses away from mine in other not to complicate things for me and my mom.

” He ask me to give you this.” The guy said giving me an envelope.

” Why ?” I asked staring at the money.

” I don’t know. Just take it.” He said and I took it.

I opened it and it was a bundle of dollars. I smirked at the money and smiled at him.

” Thank you.” I said.

” You’re welcome.”

I got out of the car and passed through the back door. I tiptoe into the kitchen but unluckily mom saw me.

” Where are you coming from ?” I halt at once and turned around.

” Gold..”

This world is crazy.

I might not really loved Tionna but, getting married to my father was f****** absurd.

I got up and walk out of my father’s house. Allison called after me but I ignored her. If my mom was alife , Tionna wouldn’t have such dignity to marry my father. Tom opened the door to my car and i got in. I was silent all through , I hate her.

Allison hated her from the start , because she believes Tionna is somehow connected to Ben Petrov , a Russian drug lord. I sighed and stormed to my room. I halt close to the door and turned to look at tom.

” If anyone comes looking for me , tell them I traveled to Washington.” I said to tom and he nods.

” Thank you.” I entered my room and slam my door shut.

I removed the mask and flung it to the floor slumping on my bed. It was almost evening and I was so tired to go out. Someone knocked on my door.

” I thought I told Tom not to let anyone in.” I yelled standing up.

I placed the mask on my face and opened the door. Tom was standing opposite me with a girl. A girl I never wanted to see.

” Tom , what did I tell you ?” I asked ignoring the girl.

” She said she have a message for you from your dad.”

” I’m not here to hurt you Mitch.” She said and smirked.

” You can go.” I said to ben. He nods and walk out.

I slam my door shut and removed the mask I wore.

” What do you want ?” I asked her.

She Chuckled and touch me from behind. I looked down at her finger that was caressing my chest , I saw her diamond engagement ring. I scoff and snatched her hand away from me.

” What do you want ? I’m not gonna ask you again.” I said turning to look at her.

” Mitch , I missed you.” She said. I arched my brows and glance at her terrible speech.

” I know you missed me too.” She said and smirked.

I scoff and Chuckle.

” Tionna what are you doing here ?” I asked her again.

She smiled and wrapped her hands around my neck looking right into my eyes. Our eyes locked in an intense silence and I was forced to remove her hand.

” You’re getting married , get out.”

” Ohh , lover boy. I’ll leave , but I’ll come back.” She said and kissed her middle finger and index finger. She touched it with my lips and kissed me.

She stopped kissing and walked out. I sighed and locked my door.

” I hate her .” I muttered.

.

It’s been almost a week since gold traveled to Nigeria and yet she hasn’t bothered to call. I don’t really care much , Mitch was coming that weekend and I can’t wait for it.

Ayanda and I visited the club one evening just to party. I played snooker with her till it was evening. We sat close to the bar and ordered for drinks. Ayanda planned on getting laid that night , I just wanted to be out and get busy.

Mom suggested I need a job but I hated the idea , I really can’t work under someone.

” Hey…” A guy said sitting close to me.

” What do you want ?” I asked.

” You care for a ride ?” He asked and I scoff.

” b**** , I’m not a prostitute.” I yelled.

” Get your ass out.” I said.

He growled and walk out.

” That was too harsh.” A familiar voice said sitting close to me.

” Fred , what are you doing here ?” I asked.

” Where’s gold ?” He asked.

” You dumped her because of a stupid white south African. What more do you want ?” I yelled.

He sighed and look around.

” Look , you don’t understand. I’m sorry and I need to speak with her. She blocked my number and I regretted everything. Emily I missed her and I missed everything we did together.” He said as ayanda laughs. I look at him and laugh too.

” You’re so unfortunate. Get out , I don’t wanna see your dumb face.” I said.

” Emily , try and understand.”

” Fred get out , I’m gonna pour this on you.” I threatened holding the glass of wine.

I tilt my head and he got up walking out defeated.

” The **** I hate him.” I said and scoff.

” He’s shameless.” Ayanda said.

” I’ve seen a guy I wanna dance with.” Ayanda said standing up.

” Talk later , I need to get laid.” She said and walks into the crowd.

I huff loudly and sip my drink. I just wanna see Mitchel Cooper and fall on his arm let his cute lips plant kisses all over my body.

.

.

” Mimi , you shouldn’t do that.” I said repeatedly but she always wanna make me angry.

” Mitchel is coming to Johannesburg this weekend , I wish I can follow you home.” Miranda whined.

” Mimi , I’m not going home. Mitch is Emily’s big time crush , I don’t really care about him.” I said and sat down.

” Nigeria is boring without Mitch.”

” What ! Is he your crush too ?” I asked.

” Kinda ” She replied and winked.

” I need to be ready for school Mimi. You are resuming school this fall , don’t forget.” I said and sighed.

She rolled her eyes and picked her phone to play video games.

” Better.” I said and sat down going through my blog.

It’s been boring since ages , no visitors and it’s annoying. I love blogging reasons I planned to study mass communication but mom hated the idea. She said it’s lame to study that because of some crazy reasons.

.

” Tionna , start talking.” I yelled with my arms crossed.

no_a
She scoff and smirked.

” Can’t you mind your business ?” She asked.

” **** you , my father’s business is my business. You can’t just barge into my family and try to destroy it. What is wrong with you Russian b****es.” I yelled.

She laughs and look around.

” Your father loves me and i love him too. You’re just pained and unfortunate.” She spat .

I chuckled and gave her a slap.

” What the ****..” she muttered with palm tightly fixed to her cheek.

” You wayward prick.” She fired and tried to fight back before my dad showed up.

” Alli , what are you doing ?” My dad asked.

Tionna ran to his arm and weeped.

” She tried to kill me because we’re getting married.” Tionna said.

She’s evil . A Green snake with evil motives.

” Dad , you can’t just marry your son’s ex girlfriend , it’s unheard of.” I said.

” Alli , what’s your business ? You should be focused on your career and not my relationship with Tionna.” Dad yelled.

” I’m sure she used her dirty Russian voodoo on you , she won’t succeed. We’re gonna fight till you get your ass out of my family , stupid slut.” I yelled at her.

” Did you hear that ? She called me a slut.” Tionna said and pretend to weep.

” Allison , get out. Just get out. If you know you wanna give Tionna issues just stay away from my mansion.”

” Of course I will.” I said and glared at Tionna before walking out.

” Alli.” Tobie called.

I stopped beside my car and turned to look at at him.

” You should leave them alone , it would save you the stress. I think you should focus more on your next movie and not Tionna and dad. He knows what he’s doing.” Tobias said and i scoff.

” Thanks , I’m just tryna help. I really don’t like her. She’s a model , owns her fashion house in Los angeles and my big time rival. She hates me.”

” I understand , just let her be.” Tobias said.

I sighed and faked a smile.

” See ya.” I said as my guard opened the door to the backseat and I got in.

He slammed the door shut and entered as my driver drove off.

.

I stayed in my private office and smoke the hell out of the cigarette i was holding. I was at my casino that evening. Strippers were busy stripping , I just had to stay in my office.

Tom walked in with a girl who was dressed in a blue short dress. She smiled at me seductively and I scoff exhaling the smoke out of my nose.

” You can leave tom.” I said as Tom walked out.

She slide to were i was sitting with her heavy hips and butt and sat on my table. She touched my hair and smiled. She bit her lower lip and took the cigarette from my hand. She inhale it and lean closer to me , puffing the smoke all over my neck.

I smiled and Chuckle silently , that always turns me on. Who told her to do that ?

She kept the cigarette aside and unclipped her bra taking it out with her dress still on. She stands up and sit on my lap kissing my neck. I held her waist and kissed her neck too. I traced it down to her collarbone as she moans.

She placed her hand on my shoulders giving me a lap dance. I removed her dress and kissed her nipples , she bit her lip and tried hard not to moan. She pressed me against the chair I was sitting and kissed me roughly. I kissed her back as she Chuckle.

” Let’s take it off.” She whispered holding the end of my mask.

” Get up.” I said. She could tell through my eyes , that I’m angry.

” Why ?” She asked still sitting ony lap.

” Get up b****.” I yelled.

She jerked up at once and stare at me weirdly.

” Get out.” I said taking out a cigarette and lit it.

She stood there still baffled as she try make out words.

” Get your ass out.” I yelled.

” What is wrong with you , you dirty stupid ****.” She said.

” What the….” I uttered and brought out my gun.

” No , please don’t..” She pleaded.

But I hate it , she fell to the ground as her stomach ooze out blood.

” Tom , come get her out of here.” I said on the intercom.

” Heard you’re going to Africa ?” Allison asked.

I turn to look at her and smile.

” Yeah , it’s among my tour schedule.” I said and sigh.

” You’re okay ?”

” Yeah..” I replied and she smiled.

Tobie walks in , he’s my half brother. My father adopted him when I was three years old and he’s now a family now. He’s really annoying most time.

” All hail Mitch , my masked brother.” He teases.

” Don’t try to make fun of him okay.” Allison fired.

” Chill , he’s also my brother.”

” Tobie , what now ?” I asked sitting down.

” I just visited , dad is bringing a plus one tonight.” Tobias said.

” Who’s she ?” Allison asked.

” Don’t know , let’s wait for the party.” Tobie said getting up to take a wine from the bar.

” So Mitch, how’s life with you ? I’m sure you must have laid with a million girls..” he said raising the glass upwards.

” You suck.” I said as Allison Chuckle.

” Alli what ?” I asked but she raised her hand up in defense.

” I’ve got a movie to plan for this weekend. I’ve been busy and I barely can’t remember when last I got laid. ****…” Allison said.

Tobi and I exchange glances as we Chuckle.

” it’s not funny , I’m just being forward. This is America.”

” Yeah , we didn’t forget.” Tobie said.

” What’s up with Tionna Petrov ? Your sweetheart ?” Tobias asked.

” Are you trying to mock me or what ?” I asked.

” You like her , don’t you ?” Tobias asked.

” Tobias..” Allison called.

I bit the tip of my thumb and frown.

” I don’t wanna talk about her.”

” Russians are way too hotter for a masked American.” Tobias said and gulp the entire wine.

He slam the glass on top of the table and walk out.

” He’s always annoying.” Allison said but I ignored her.

” I know you loved her.” Allison said.

” I don’t.” I yelled and stood up.

” I’m not just comfortable with relationship.” I added picking up a cigarette and lit it.

” You’re sure ? You’re Mitchel Cooper and you’re good for everyone. She’s just an annoying Russian b****. Tionna doesn’t deserve you .” Allison said and i Chuckle.

I Inhale the cigarette and turned to look at Allison.

” Thanks.” I said and hand the cigarette to her.

She took it and and smoke it.

” I’m going to Seattle , got goods to check.” I said to her.

” Sure brother , becareful.” She said.

I kissed her on the cheek and walked out wearing my mask.

” Tom , get the chopper.” I said to my guard as I walked out of the building.

••••••••••••••

Tionna was my ex girlfriend , we didn’t get to last long. She just woke up one morning and said it to my face that she was tired. Each time I thought about it , I laugh to nothing funny.

It’s not heard of that a girl will just end a relationship with me. I end the relationship not them. Tionna was really pretty and look different. She’s a model and she’s got the fan base and all that. But we didn’t last long.

I got almost everything I want , the house , the cars , the family and the money. My casino worth about 5 billion dollars , my dad’s almost 30 million. My father has never been the best father , too annoying and a **** too. We always had issues , it seems Tobias was the better one.

Tobias runs his company , I refused to be part of the family business stuff because I wasn’t ready to live such boring life.

I sit at the back of the chopper as it lands on my beach house in Seattle. I always come here if I wanna get away . The warm breeze and all that fancy stuff , Seattle to me was better than new york. Till date, I’m one of new York’s youngest billionaire even at the age of 24.

I got out of the chopper with my guards following me behind.

” Welcome boss.” Will said giving me a cigarette with a lighter.

” Where are the they ?” I asked lighting the cigarette.

” Stock in the warehouse.” Will replied walking along side me.

He opened the door to the warehouse , i entered and gave my jacket to Tom.

” Well packed.” Will said.

I took a pocket knife from will and pierced it into one of the parcels and inhale it. I chuckle to it’s content and smile.

” You’re taking some to Madison , I want my money complete. No debts.” I said to will as he prostrates.

” Get me a girl , I need to get laid.” I said and walk out to my living room.

I flung myself on the couch and stare at the swimming pool through my transparent wall. I inhale the cigarette and sighed. I felt a presence standing in my doorway , I turned to look at it and saw a brunette standing right there dressed seductively.

” Go to my bedroom and wait.” I said to her as she walked out.

” b****es..” I muttered and looked through my transparent wall.

Tonight my father is throwing a party for the Cooper’s and all the family boring stuff. I was supposed to be there since he’s coming with a girl.

Who’s that unlucky girl ?

.

Aunt Elna and i prepared dinner as we sit to eat. Her husband is in new York because of business issues. Miranda sat close to me as we talked.

” Heard you’re going to New York.” Aunt Elna said.

” Why didn’t you tell me ?” Miranda asked.

” Mimi , I totally forgot.” I said as she sighed.

” Don’t care , you’ll always come over to babysit me since we live in new York too. School begins this summer and I want you to come stay with us and take me to school every morning.” She said and winked.

” Mimi , your sister is going to school and she won’t have time to babysit you.” Aunt Elna said as i grin.

” I hope you’ll get a boyfriend too.”

” What ? Mimi..” Aunt Elna called looking at her kid. I covered my mouth and try not to laugh.

” Gold doesn’t have a boyfriend and she’s not a kid anymore. Emily is always the fun type , but I like you more anyways.” She said smiling.

” I think you know too much.” Aunt Elna said.

” I have an Instagram page mom.” Miranda said as I pretend to cough.

More secrets to be unravel.

” You what ?”

” C’mon mom , stop acting like Jesus hates it. You don’t want one and i like one. Gold is a follower too. Right ?” Miranda said and smirked at me.

” Huh !” I uttered in dismay.

” That’s enough. Let’s eat before i die of hypertension.” Aunt Elna said drinking water.

Miranda winked at me , I scoff silently and shake head. She’s more than naive.

After dinner she followed me to her room and made me listen to her cover of the song ” SELFISH”. I’d love to give birth to a child like that , so smart , cute and brown skin. She has curly hair and a very sexy nose. Miranda is just too pretty but know too much for her age.

Call you everyday , cause I’m into you.

You made me always look like I’m selfish

There’s no point in telling , cause I’ve fallen deep

 I could be far , I’m not selfish…

” No Gold you spoilt it. It was terrible , you just sang off the hook.” Miranda said after singing alongside her own cover.

” I’m a better singer than you.” I said in other to get her irritated.

She rolled her eyes and huff.

” There’s a boy down the road , he says he likes you .” Miranda said and grin.

” Mimi..”

” Yeah , his name is Fred , Abuja connect , you gon’ like him.” She said smiling victoriously.

” Eww , why would you say that ?” I fired.

” I told him you’re interested in him cause you’re single and ready to mingle.” Miranda said as my eyes grew wide.

” What the ****…” I yelled and raced after her.

” Catch me if you can.” She shouted and ran upstairs.

.

.

I hurriedly took my bath and got ready to travel to New York. I don’t wanna look like the bad egg and not attend my father’s party. I just wanna see that unfortunate girl who’s dating my father.

I put on my mask and stared at my reflection. Most times I ask myself why hiding behind masks , but then a reason will crawl to my head.

” Mitchel hates bizarre.” I smirked and carried my Jacket walking out of my house. Apart from Allison , my dad , Tobias and Tionna, no one else have seen my real face or what I look like. They only see a redhead behind a mask and I like it that way.

My father’s house was filled with different important persons and that includes the family tree of the Cooper’s.

My guard walk me in and I took a seat. What’s special about Andrew Cooper’s party. The servants give me a drink but I refused it , I wasn’t in the mood to dine in my father’s house. Well, because we were always having issues.

For about two hours , I didn’t see my dad. Allison and Tobie sat close to me cheering themselves with drinks. I sighed and look around , here comes my father. He walks in with a girl as they both held hands.

” What the..” Allison said standing up .

” Seriously.” I muttered looking at my dad’s girlfriend.

” I’m not surprised. Russian roulette.” Tobie said laughing.

” Tionna , what the ****…” Allison yelled.

She smirked and stood close to my dad.

” I’m really happy to see my family here today. Allison my pretty daughter , Mitchel my rude son , tobie my very submissive son , my brother Alex Cooper , my nephew ,Drake Cooper , my very good friend , Barnabas and the others too I’m truly honored to have you here. This party is to the benefit of my lovely fianceè Tionna Petrov .” My father said raising a glass of wine in the air.

Was i dreaming or what ? My father’s getting married to my ex girlfriend ?

” You guys are getting married ?” Allison asked.

Tionna smirked and nods smiling at the audience.

” What !” Allison yelled.

Health / There Is Traditional Cure For COVID-19 by Toriperisc: 6:54am On May 11, 2020
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has said there is traditional medicine capable of curing COVID-19 pandemic.
He spoke in his palace while presenting to the public, a book written on the late Yoruba music genre of Apala, Ayinla Wahidi, popularly called Ayinla Omowura.
The book titled: ‘Ayinla Omowura: Life and Times of an Apala Legend’, was written by syndicated columnist and former special adviser on Media to two former governors, Dr. Festus Adedayo.
While recommending the book for public reading, as one that dwelt on the culture, language and traditional music of the Yoruba, Oba Adeyemi called for a return to what he called “the roots”, to be able to fashion out indigenous solution to problems.
The monarch said that in the past, Yoruba traditional medicine treated all diseases, ranging from smallpox to diabetes and hay fever, adding that traditional herbalists were capable of sending people on message by telepathy.
Read Also: ‘Africa must combine modern, traditional medicine to combat COVID-19’
He wondered whether those powers had left the people.
“There were no illnesses or diseases under the surface of the earth that our forefathers were not capable of healing. I know that those powers are still potent and are present in us today,” Alaafin said.
He cited a native herbalist in Oyo, who passed on not too long ago, saying that he specialised in conjuring out snake poisons from the bodies of the victims.
“The man would call out the poison in the snake and conjure the snake responsible for the sting wherever it was. The snake would be made to swallow its own venom,” the monarch said, stressing that modern medicine did not have that potency.
He, however, said that the traditional medicine practitioners were cautious about displaying their abilities so as not to fall foul of governmental laws and bureaucratic bottlenecks involved in proclaiming cure for ailments in the world today.
Presenting the book to Oba Adeyemi, Dr. Adedayo said he wrote it as a contribution to the huge literature on Yoruba history and culture.
He said that the book was written to send a message to people at various cadres of life on the need to be mindful of their actions and inactions, noting that Omowura would probably have lived longer if he took into consideration his societal position before engaging in a barroom fight that led to his untimely death.

Health / Africa Will Lose $65b To Full Lockdown, Says UNECA by Toriperisc: 6:36am On May 11, 2020
DIRECTOR of Regional Trade and Integration at United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Mr Stephen Karingi has said Africa will lose $65 billion if there is full lockdown of the continent due to COVID-19.
Karingi spoke during the World Health Organisation (WHO) and World Economic Forum (WEF) virtual briefing. The director said the African economy would contract as much as three per cent in 2020.
According to him, UNECA’s analysis showed that with total lockdown, the economies would lose 2.5 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) monthly.
“This is about $6.5 billion every month based on the intensity and strictness of the lockdown. If we have a full lockdown … we would lose $65 billion,” he said.
He said reports of the first quarter showed a reduction in exports and lower revenue generation by governments, because of low activities of businesses and the economy.
Karingi noted that Africa’s recover depended on its actions to save lives and businesses. The director said measures by governments should be a smart exit from the lockdown, and to ensure numbers of COVID-19 cases decreased to prevent an economic shutdown.
Executive Chairman of Africa Health Business and President of Africa Healthcare Federation Dr Amit Thakker said there were three phases of Africa post COVID-19 recovery.
Thakker explained that the phases would run from 2021 to 2023, and phase one, repair, would involve containment, vaccines, social distancing measures and hand washing.
He said phase two in 2022 would determine if Africa’s growth would be strong or decline, while phase three would be partnership and leadership to achieve progressive growth.
World Health Organisation’s (WHO’s) Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moeti said easing lockdown in Africa should be gradual, with the most essential parts of the economy being opened up first.
Moeti noted that containment measures should be in place to ensure rates of COVID-19 infection reduces, while upscaling testing, contact tracing and treatment of patients.

~GOLD~

Almost every single African always have this crazy dream to leave their country and possibly travel abroad. And it’s either New York or nowhere else. I’m different , I’m a typical African girl and I’m really crazy.

I’ve always wanted to travel to Egypt that’s my favorite country in the world and moreover I’m black , being black is our goal.

My name’s Gold Lange , I’m a high school leaver , just rounded up matric and I’m stuck at home with mom. My twinny is Emily Lange , we’re ordinary twins and not identical.

Emily is the wild type and boys freak , her best friend is almost like her , crazy and unserious about life. They just wanna party and party. Talk about boys all day and then sleep. I guess that’s what highschool leavers do.

Me , I don’t have friends . I’m just stuck with my phone and social media. I gossip with myself and then bored my whole time taking pictures in Snapchat or writing non-stop in my blog.

” Gold…” Mom calls knocking on my door open as she smiled standing beside the door.

” Hey mom.” I replied sitting up.

” Snap chatting again ?” Mom asks wiggling her brows.

I chuckle and sit up. Mom smiled at me as she let herself through the door. She sits on my bed and caress my hair slowly.

” Hope everything is fine ?” I asked curious.

” Sure . Just wanna say you’ll be going to Nigeria this weekend.” Mom said as my eyes brighten.

” Why ?”

” Because aunt Elna is married to a Nigerian and she’s based there with her husband and also you missed mimi , your cute cousin.”

” ****..” I uttered.

” What’s **** ? We’re blacks kid , you don’t say that in this house.” Mom said and I exhale deeply.

” But I didn’t plan for any vacation at all , what about Emily ?”

” She’s fine , I’m getting Emily a job here and you’re going to Nigeria. Since you both left highschool, you guys have been nuisance , always doing jobless stuff.”

” But why me ?” I asked.

” Because you’re hardworking and Emily’s lazy and also you’re serious most times and Emily is really unserious. Chill kid , it’s just for a week. Maybe before you return, NYU will be ready to cruise.” Mom said Chuckling.

” New York ?”

” Yeah. I’ve always wanted you to school abroad and make good use of your time there. Not just you , including Emily. You both are leaving for New York.”

” Mom , I wanna school in Johannesburg.”

” You’re not schooling here.” Mom protested.

” Or maybe Egypt.” I added.

” Kid you’re going to New York , NYU is cool.” Mom said as she stand up walking out of my room.

” ****..” I shouted.

New York sucks.

~ Emily~

” I’m super excited.” I said smiling going through my phone.

” And why ?” Ayanda asked , she’s my best friend.

” Because Mitch Cooper will be coming down to SA for a commercial shoot , i really can’t wait.”

” I totally forgot he’s your big time crush.” Ayanda said and I chuckled.

Truly enough she’s right. Mitchel Cooper is a crazily cute new Yorker. Yeah he’s damn cute , he’s a super model , runs his own organization and also a co manager to his father’s casino , like I heard.

Mitch is hot , handsome and also flashy. Rumours said he’s mean and proud but who cares , I’m willing to manage. I’ve always wished to be his girlfriend and also I have imagined us in an intimacy union.

Luckily for me he’s coming to Johannesburg for his commercial shoot for his magazine , and hopefully I can’t wait.

Naturally I’ve been single all my life , it’s not like I don’t have admirers , I do but we don’t seem to last , it’s either I get tired or I get tired , funny right ? I’ve always wanted Mitch , and I’m really sure I’ll get him , despite the fact that he’s a white dude.

My twin sister is my opposite , she’s a loner. Every single day she spends her entire boring life in social media , either Snapchat or Instagram. Or maybe she might be surfing through Google doing God knows what. I really don’t know why she doesn’t have friends , no one have been able to to prove why .

Gold is really funny , I remembered she has dated once and that was at senior year in highschool and we were close to matric. I remembered how they broke up , few days to matric because he planned to travel abroad but unfortunately Gold caught him cheating.

I felt her pain , that pain of being cheated on and also lied to , it’s so aweful, especially when he’s the guy who disflowered you. She hated men and hates flirting. I guess that’s one of the reasons she always spend her whole day in social media trying to bore her time.

Gold is strong and she’s really attractive , I really can’t tell who’s more pretty but I think it’s me. She gets easily pissed off and it doesn’t take her a minute to cause a fight.

And now me , I’m crazy as ****. I like parties and i love hanging out . I hate being played with , gold’s story truly taught me a lot , reasons I don’t dare to fall in love . I easily get tired in relationships and I don’t dare spread my legs.

I flirt , yeah and I am not carried away because I just wanna have fun. Crazily enough, I’ve never been laid in my life and that’s the painful part. All I wanted was my celebrity crush Mitchel Cooper , I don’t mind giving him my virginity. You can call me weird , don’t care , cause I love being weird.

~ Gold~

I scrolled on my laptop and roam about in Google. I’ve been thinking about traveling to Nigeria and I think i deserved it , I’ve been too much an a****le lately.

My phone vibrated and it was a familiar number calling. I picked up and kept quiet.

” Hey gold.” His voice Called.

” Fred , what do you want ? How did you even got my number ?” I ask.

” Come on , I missed you and i wish we hang out , please don’t say no.”

” Nigga you’re mad. **** you and **** your dirty a****le, broke ass family you’ve got. Whatever s*** we had ended in highschool and I’m not willing to see your s*** face , go **** yourself.” I said and hang up.

I block the number and threw my phone on top of my bed. He just spoilt my mood and I hate him more for that. Fred was my first boyfriend and I believe he’s my last boyfriend. I remembered how he lied , how he cheated , and i was so stupid to fall for his love trick and we make out.

Each time I thought about how we make out , I always wished they never happened. I tap violently on my keyboard , I was trying to hold back the pain.

” Hey sis..” Emily calls standing beside my door.

” Hey..” I said without looking at her.

She smile awkwardly and walk in standing next to me.

” You’re okay ?” Emily asks sitting close to me.

” I’m good.” I lied and smiled.

” Alright…” She said and gigles.

” Are you okay ?” I asked curious.

” Well yeah.. Mitchel is coming down to SA next week.” Emily said and grin .

” For real ?"

” Yeah. And I can’t wait. I’m ready to do anything for him.” She said and wave her hands in the air.

” Goodness. Are you still having crazy feelings for him ?” I asked and she nodded.

” Dude yeah…”

” You don’t even know what he looks like , what if he is ugly as **** ? That dude is evil , he wears a mask every single time and he’s not willing to tell why.” I said and sigh.

” Look gold chill , there’s nothing wrong in wearing a mask especially when you’re a celebrity. He’s trying to avoid this crazy paparazzi s***.”

” Cool , happy getting laid in advance.” I said and focused on my computer.

” Thanks .” Emily said and danced out of my room.

This life is weird , who would fall in love with a weirdo ? A dude who wears mask that covers his face except his eyes and pierced lips.

I scroll down on my laptop and stare at Mitchel Cooper that display on my laptop screen. I really don’t see him pleasing especially when nobody knows what he looks like. I zoom the picture he took on a red carpet show and that was unaware , cause he didn’t expect it.

He wore a black jacket and dark jean and a crazy t-shirt. His long red hair rest on his crazy masked face , he has dark blue eyes , pink lips I guess, milky skin and a piercing on his lip.

” This dude’s insane.” I said and cancel it.

I read his biography and he’s Andrew Cooper’s only son. Like I read Andrew is a billionaire with a casino worth 20 billion dollars. And also he has an adopted son named Tobias probably called tobie most times.

” ****..” I shouted and hissed.

” This world is ****in stupid , 20 billion and yet most people are suffering in New York.”

I think there’s more to Emily’s big time crush on Mitch. His sister Allison Cooper , new York hottest girl on the red carpet. She’s a redhead too with a very attractive color. There’s something about this whites , always wild and gets to wow the crowds.

” This world sucks..” I scoff and aggressively close the laptop.

” Nigeria here i come.”

I got up bringing out my bag and starts picking useful stuffs. One week mom said , I remembered Miranda , she’s my annoying cousin. Too civilized and knows too much for her age. I sigh and closed the bag ready to travel tomorrow.

The following day I left , Emily wasn’t that bothered , she’s been waiting for Mitchel Cooper till thy kingdom come. I entered the guest room which is likely my room and slump on my bed. Aunt Elna and her husband don’t base here. They lived in Madison and often times new York.

Abuja is their resident home like they claim. I switched on my laptop and try to bore time. Miranda wasn’t around , including her mom , just me alone.

” Golden…” A familiar voice shouted my name.

” Oh boy !” I scoff and pretend to catch a nap.

” Burger.” She said and pinched my feet.

I tried not to laugh but she succeeded , I jerked and fell on the floor laughing cause it tickles.

” Look at you..” she said hugging me.

” Mom said you’ll come. I missed you a lot.” She said kissing my cheek.

” Alrighty , that’s enough. Where did you go ?” I asked.

” Took a stroll.” She said and winked.

” That’s a nice.” I said picking up my phone.

” You’re a such a loner.” She said with her hand on her waist.

” Woah..” I said and arched my brows.

” Yeah… Reasons why you don’t have a boyfriend.” She said and grin.

” Woah…” I muttered.

” Always online , Snapchat , Facebook and all that boring stuff. Golden you need a boyfriend.” She said and sighed.

She’s talking more than her age. I kept my phone aside and glance at her.

” When’s your birthday ?” I asked.

” Next Month. Why ?” Miranda asked.

” How old will you be ?” I asked.

” Twelve.” Miranda replied.

” What the **** . I think you know way too much. You shouldn’t be talking about boys.” I said and she smirks.

” Do you know Mitchel ? Like Mitchel Cooper ?” Miranda asked and furrowed her brows.

” Everyone’s been talking about him.” I replied.

” I’m his biggest fan , he’s so fancy and he smells wealth. No one’s been able to tell what he looks like , but I really don’t care , I know he is so damn cute.”

” Eww , Emily..” I said and scoff.

” What ! You’re boring. I’d do anything to see his face. What lies behind that mask ?” Miranda said like an elderly woman thinking.

I’m really tired of this Mitchel bulls*** . Everyone likes him , his Instagram page which is being managed by his manager has about 50 million followers and it’s so terrible.

Politics / We Deserve FG Stimulus Than Airline Operators by Toriperisc: 11:33am On Apr 27, 2020
Road transport operators have declared they are more deserving of federal government’s stimulus than airline operators.

The operators, under the aegies of The Association of Private Transport Companies of Nigeria (APTCON) said they are more affected by the lockdown orders by Federal and State Governments than airline operators.

Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) last week demanded inclusion in the government’s stimulus packages as well as other palliatives to help the association through the COVID-19 crisis and after.

But spokesman for APTCON, Audu Gaddo, in a statement, explained that road transport operations had also been devastated by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said considering its pivotal position in the economy, the government should give road transport operators priority over others.
“Road transport definitely employs more Nigerians than airline operators. Millions of Nigerians work for the road transport business, both directly and indirectly,” Gaddo said.

He added: “It is also the main transport mode since the average Nigerian cannot afford to fly. If the sector suffers, it will affect every Nigerian across the country while most have little or no economic stake in air travel.

“Our requests only cover organised road transporters; companies that operate legitimate road transport services, having a proper business structure and paying taxes. So, government has no challenge identifying beneficiaries and channelling its support to those who contribute to government revenue.”

Gaddo further explained: “We are not opposed to government supporting airline operators, however, we strongly believe that given the unique place of road transport operations in the Nigerian economy at all levels, road transport companies should be first in line for government’s financial support.”

He argued that the government will be insensitive to the plight of the general populace if it considered bailing air operators without first providing much-needed support to road transport companies.

“Airline operators have consistently enjoyed government’s support and palliatives in the past, yet still collapse, while we road transport operators are left to our own devices even though we provide our services under harsh conditions, like bad roads and multiple taxations leading to really high overheads.

“Contrary to the claim that all other forms of transportation no longer pay Value Added Tax (VAT); it should be noted that road transport operators still pay VAT,” Gaddo said, responding to AON’s claim that only domestic airlines still pay VAT despite an executive order from 2018 exempting transport services for use by the general public from paying VAT.

Gaddo called on the Vice President, Minister of Transport, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as key players to work together in implementing the demands of road transport operators.

According to him: “Transportation is one of the non-oil drivers of the Nigerian economy, and road transport contributes the largest share in the transportation sub-sector. It is also the fastest-growing. In the third quarter of 2019, road transport contributed 1.79% to the overall Gross Domestic Product of Nigeria, compared to air transport with 0.15% and water with 0.01%.

“Beyond contributing to the GDP, road transport provides the network essential for nationwide business and tourism, enabling all other sectors one way or the other and pushing growth in remote corners of the country.

“Travel by road also remains the core connector for Nigeria’s thirty-six states and federal capital.

A few times every year, thousands of young Nigerians flock to motor parks on their way to their call up station for national youth service, Nigeria’s biggest attempt at national integration.

It is symbolic that the NYSC scheme would be impossible without road transport operators who ferry most of these youths to all corners of the nation.

“Moreover, in connecting Nigeria and supporting its economy, road transport businesses employ millions of Nigerians both in the formal and informal sectors of the economy. Even without precise figures, it is easy to surmise that the road transport section is one of the biggest employers of labour both directly and indirectly.

“Therefore, in the best interest of the Nigerian economy at all levels, policymakers now need to recognize the value of road transport businesses and lend them the support needed to drive the collective wealth of this nation.”

Travel / Evacuation: 230 Nigerians Stranded In Dubai by Toriperisc: 3:27pm On Apr 25, 2020
About 230 Nigerian returnees are stranded in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) following the failure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get flight clearance for the Lagos-bound Emirates Airlines aircraft.

It was learnt that for three weeks, the ministry has not been able to tidy up the arrangement for the evacuation of the 230 Nigerians.

But most of the evacuees, who allegedly paid about N242,000 per head, could not understand why the ministry allowed them to book Emirates flight without any solid arrangement.

Worried by continued failure to secure flight clearance, the Emirates Airlines on Friday canceled the flight.

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have however put the blame on the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for not concluding arrangements, including flight clearance, to repatriate the affected Nigerians.

According to investigation conducted by our correspondent, the 230 returnees had been scheduled for flight EK0783 from Dubai (1020) to Lagos by 1500 on April 26, 2020.

The Nigerian Ambassador to UAE, Mallam Mohammed Dansanta Rimi, had since April 5 issued COVID-19 Travel Advisory to Nigerians on the Emirates.

It was also confirmed that Rimi had also opened a line of communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the list of Nigerians willing to return home.

The initial positive response of the ministry made the Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi to ask the 230 returnees to pay for their tickets.

But as at April 22, there was no commitment from the Federal Government on flight clearance for the Emirates aircraft bringing in the stranded Nigerians.

It was gathered that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not complete the three-week process.

In a note to the Nigerian Embassy in the UAE on April 22, the Emirates airline desk officer said: “Based on the list provided by you, our office has been doing the call outs. As of now, we have approximately 230 passengers confirmed to travel. There are some more passengers coordinating through Debbie.

In the meantime, I would like to bring to your notice of a very critical issue to ensure we have this flight operated as planned.

“Our office in Lagos has been notified by a member of the Nigerian Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 (Dr. Haggai) that your good office (Nigerian Embassy in UAE) has to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria to ensure that the protocol for quarantine and other required measures are in place prior to the flight.

“We are assuming that you have the necessary approvals and arrangements in place in Lagos for us to carry these passengers.

“Could you please confirm back to us that all arrangements as required by the Nigerian government are in order for the flight EK 783/26APR that is scheduled to depart Dubai at 1020AM. Appreciate if you could confirm this to us by end of 23APR2020. Thank you.”

Based on the concerns of the airline, the Embassy on April 22, 2020 communicated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as follows: “Find attached letter from Emirates confirming if the Ministry is liaising with the appropriate authorities for clearance/approval for the impending flight amid the lock down in Lagos. Awaiting your response, please.”

As at Friday (yesterday) when there was no official flight clearance for the 230 Nigerians, the Emirates Airlines aborted the trip.

It sent a notice to the returnees, saying: “Flight cancelled. The following flight(s) have been cancelled in the light of current health concerns globally. Flight details: EK0783-Dubai International Airport (Origin), Murtala Muhammed Airport, LOS (Destination) on Sunday April 26th. Please contact your travel agent for further assistance with your booking. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Although some of the stranded Nigerians have tried to reach out to the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, she only replied on Twitter as follows: “Like I said, final decision is with the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyema. The mission will reach you once they get directives from the Minister.”

As at the time of filing this report, the fate of the stranded 230 Nigerians was unknown with many claiming that they had spent their savings to buy tickets.

It was learnt that each of the passengers coughed out about N242,000 for the one-way ticket based on the fares contained in the COVID-19 Travel Advisory Update by the Consular and Immigration Section of the Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The advisory reads in part: “Sequel to the Mission’s travel advisory notice dated 9th April, 2020, this is to inform members of the Nigeria community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) requiring emergency evacuation during this challenging period of Coronavirus pandemic that Emirates Airlines is making arrangements to operate a special flight to repatriate Nigerians from Dubai to Lagos tentatively on 26th April, 2020, and this will be subject to obtaining necessary clearance from the relevant Nigerian authorities.

“In view of the foregoing, ticket fare is still at AED 2,500 for economy class (one-way) and AED 5,000 (one-way) for business class while passenger (s) with existing Emirates ticket will have to pay the fare difference based on the current value of their tickets.

“It should be reiterated that the airline will operate the flight subject to available number of interested passengers. Enquires can be made directly to the airline call Centre by calling 600 555555. In addition, passengers will be required to undergo COVID-19 test at Dubai International Airport and on arrival in Nigeria.

“While expressing the Embassy’s readiness to respond to further enquiries, please note, information earlier received are compiled and forwarded to the Nigerian Government for appropriate action. As soon as firm arrangement has been made, all concerned persons will be notified accordingly. “

Health / COVID-19: US Death Toll Surpasses 50,000 by Toriperisc: 7:10pm On Apr 24, 2020
The death toll in the United States has surpassed 50,000, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

There are now at least 50,031 deaths in the country, the data showed on Friday.

The grim milestone was reached Friday morning, five days after the number of fatalities hit 40,000.

The U.S. has the highest death toll in the world and the most number of cases.

The coronavirus pandemic has now killed more than 190,000 people worldwide.

Over 2.7 million people across the globe have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new respiratory virus.

The actual numbers are believed to be much higher due to testing shortages, many unreported cases and suspicions that some governments are hiding the scope of their nations’ outbreaks.

Since the first cases were detected in China in December, the United States has become the worst-affected country, with more than 869,000 diagnosed cases and at least 50,031 deaths.

Crime / Key Boko Haram Leaders Killed In Air Strikes In Borno by Toriperisc: 11:21am On Apr 20, 2020
Agency Reporter

Several key Boko Haram Terrorists/ISWAP leaders have been killed in multiple air strikes conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole at Durbada in Borno, the Defence Headquarters has said.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, added that structures belonging to the terrorists were also destroyed.

Enenche disclosed that the operation, which was executed on April 17, came on the heels of credible human intelligence reports.

He said that the intelligence was confirmed by series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions and indicated that the settlement was one of the locations where some of the terrorists’ hierarchy often hibernate.

According to him, the fighter jets dispatched by the Air Task Force took turns in attacking the location scoring accurate hits within the target area which resulted in the death of some of the terrorists.

“Others, who were seen attempting to flee the area were taken out in follow-on attacks.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the North East, will sustain the offensive against the enemies of our nation,” he said. (NAN)

Jobs/Vacancies / How To Stem Job Loss Post COVID-19, By Experts by Toriperisc: 7:18am On Apr 19, 2020
By Ibrahim Apekhade Yusuf
With growing fears of possible job losses post COVID-19, experts have allayed such fears, saying most organisations may not announce job cuts arbitrarily.

According to the experts, there is need for employers and the government to hold a roundtable to discuss on the fallout on employment as a result of COVID-19.

In an interview with our correspondent, Dr. Timothy Olawale, the Director General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), an umbrella body for employers in the organised private sector (OPS), while speaking on the economic implication for the workforce, suggested short, medium to long term measures to mitigate the possible job crisis.

While acknowledging that globally, job cuts, layoffs, wage cuts and employee redundancy have continued to exacerbate as the coronavirus pandemic which continues to disrupt social life, the economy and every other human activity, he however said, “millions of jobs could be saved if OPS and government can adopt short and medium term decisions to ensure minimal job losses and create new job opportunities jobs. Thus, the decisions they take today will determine the health of our societies and economies for years to come.”

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that as many as 25 million people could become unemployed, with a loss of workers’ income of as much as USD 3.4 trillion. However, it is already becoming clear that these numbers may underestimate the magnitude of the impact...

Management, Olawale reiterated, “Can adopt a number of strategies both in the short, medium and long term to address this looming crisis. The management can meet with financial institutions to restructure loans to free up working capital for business operations.”

“There should be engagement with government through Employers Association to develop policies that will business continuity and access to that access to a stimulus package to help pay wages or for investment to protect against downturn inactivity– and tax payment deferrals in the form of rebates for businesses, particularly in sectors most affected by the crisis. In addition, employees who are self-isolating or those diagnosed with the virus should receive payment support from the government, to encourage disclosure and help contain the spread.”

Echoing similar views, Louis Ntanda, a human resource and management expert based in Enugu, said it will be counterproductive for organisations to cut jobs arbitrarily.

“It’s actually a position that ties the hand of the HR in all organisations as the Labour law and their various handbooks does not provide for such. We may be faced with lots of litigations after the lockdown if the various organisations and mostly HR do not handle the current situation well.”

How to minimise job loss- DG NECA

Dr. Timothy Olawale, an Industrial Relations and Strategic Human Resource Management expert, is the Director General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), an umbrella body for employers in the organised private sector. In this interview with Ibrahim Apekhade Yusuf, he speaks on the economic implication of COVID-19, especially how it’s going to affect the workforce and proffers useful suggestions. Excerpts:

Can work-at-home policy survive Covid-19?any organisations have adopted work-at-home schedules and judging by the moderate success achieved thus far are considering sustaining the trend post COVID-19. What’s your take on this?

Globally, job cuts, layoffs, wage cuts and employee redundancy have continued to exacerbate as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to disrupt social life, the economy and every other human activity. The areas that have been most negatively impacted are almost all the value chains including manufacturing, sales, and marketing, distribution, wholesale and retail, governance, aviation and tourism amongst others.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that as many as 25 million people could become unemployed, with a loss of workers’ income of as much as USD 3.4 trillion. However, it is already becoming clear that these numbers may underestimate the magnitude of the impact.

Furthermore, Nigeria as a country largely dependent on oil even face dire consequences amidst falling global oil price, which is around $30 per barrel, down from $65 at the start of the year. Credit rating agency Standards & Poor has even warned of a further slide in the oil price to $10 amidst falling demand for crude oil due to coronavirus. This can trigger job cuts, especially in the Nigerian public sector as the federating states depend largely on revenue allocation from the central government.

As part of government’s efforts to cope with the increasing number of confirmed cases of infected as well as some reported deaths, there was a declaration of a lockdown in the major cities, Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, with a spillover effect to other states of the federation.

Thus, in a bit to keep businesses afloat and also obey the directives of government, there was the need for some employees to work from home, aided by technological advancement. In short, the much emphasised Future of Work is here!

However, not all business operations can be done online which has led to huge reduction operations and income while maintaining huge overhead costs. The result is the possibility of massive job cuts and loses.

However, millions of jobs could be saved if OPS and government can adopt short and medium term decisions to ensure minimal job losses and create new job opportunities jobs. Thus, the decisions they take today will determine the health of our societies and economies for years to come.

What suggestions can you give to prospective management on steps to take?

As I mentioned earlier, management can adopt a number of strategies both in the short, medium and long term to address this looming crisis. The management can meet with financial institutions to restructure loans to free up working capital for business operations.

Besides, there should be engagement with government through Employers Association to develop policies that will business continuity and access to that access to a stimulus package to help pay wages or for investment to protect against downturn inactivity– and tax payment deferrals in the form of rebates for businesses, particularly in sectors most affected by the crisis. In addition, employees who are self-isolating or those diagnosed with the virus should receive payment support from the government, to encourage disclosure and help contain the spread.

Another thing is that this time calls for creative thinking by management. In this regard, there should be a drive towards business innovation via the adoption of e-commerce as part of business operations. Tens of jobs will also be created as they partner with operators in the restaurant hospitality, pharmaceutical, essential daily needs sectors as a result of increased demands for these essential needs during and post COVID: 19.

There is need to accelerate revenue through packages, incentives, discounts and/or prepayments. Also of critical importance is the need to manage accounts receivables, collect as much as possible from outstanding customers through strict collection policies and/or incentives and discounts. The management also needs to execute on cost-reduction strategies that allow the business to maintain productivity while matching the demand of product, audience and customers. Reducing operating costs in order to conserve cash is critical to the survival of businesses.

To the extent possible, negotiate the cost of inputs such as supplies, raw materials, labour, etc. and pre-buy materials at a discount when possible. The management also needs to postpone all hiring and when possible reduce staff this may be an opportunity for some staff to work part time as they care for children at home. Overall, there is need to discuss with staff to consider across-the-board temporary salary cuts as an alternative to cutting staff at this difficult time.

Politics / Oshiomhole’s Adversaries Plotting To Weaken APC Ahead 2023, Says Eta by Toriperisc: 5:58am On Mar 09, 2020
ALL Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (Southsouth) Prince Hilliard Eta yesterday said those behind the plot to remove the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, plan to weaken the ruling party.

He alleged that the motive of the agents of destabilisation was to pave way for their 2023 presidential ambitions.

The APC chieftain said he has unraveled moves by the anti-Oshiomhole elements in the party to distract President Muhammadu Buhari from delivering, thereby weakening the fortunes of the party and moving members to another party where they can pursue their selfish ambition come 2023.

The APC vice chairman told reporters in Abuja where he debunked media reports that his kinsmen in the Southsouth have abandoned Oshiomhole.

Contrary to reports, Eta maintained that members and leaders of the party from the Southsouth geo-political zone are solidly behind the leadership of the national chairman.

He said: “Oshiomhole remain the best for the position. Therefore, he is enjoying the support of the leaders of the zone contrary to reports in the media.”

Eta added: “I was surprised when I read the report that the Southsouth have abandoned Oshiomhole, that is completely untrue and being fueled by those plotting evil against the national chairman. I am the National Vice Chairman of the party in the South South zone, and I know better. The political leader of the zone who is the Deputy Senate President (Ovie Omo-Agege) was not contacted by anyone to know the position of the zone.

“So, I wonder where that Newspaper got their information from. As I speak with you, the zone is implicitly behind the national chairman of our party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. We are fully in support of our chairman and people from outside of our zone will not tell us how we will manage our office that was zone to our region.

“We believe that the Chairman is doing very very well and on account of his performance, the zone stands solidly behind him. We have continuously and persistently said so because nothing has fundamentally changed.”

Eta blamed the current crisis in the party on 2023 presidential ambition of some governors, who are hell bent on removing the national ghairman in order to actualize their selfish ambition and interest at the expense of national interest.

He warned: “We should be mindful of the consequences of our actions because they are distracting our President who is settling down after he won his second term to provide the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

“I happen to know that there is this move by some of these people to weaken the party and get some people out so they can form another political group to challenge the party in 2023. But, that can be done without heating up the polity the way they are doing now.

“Those who love this party must call the troublemakers to order, whatever happens to this party between now and 2023 will affect the democratic fabrics of this country. So, we must be mindful of not just the corporate health of APC but that of the entire Nigerians,”

Politics / Still Blowing Hot And Cold by Toriperisc: 4:42am On Jan 31, 2020
Still blowing hot and cold

IN Oyo, Governor Seyi Makinde orchestrates a high-octane drama, which name could be “Blowing Hot and Cold” — all to escape doing the right thing.

Yet, right won’t vanish, simply because you buy the illusion you can avoid doing it. You can’t; and no matter how much or how long you fudge, you are condemned to eventually doing the right thing.

With the Supreme Court’s definitive pronouncement that state governors cannot sack elected local government officials, a showdown was imminent on January 28. After the federal attorney-general’s legal advice to the governor, using the apex court’s verdict as ground, the governor found himself in a bind.

The judgment absolutely removed the legal plank of his local governments’ dissolution of 29 May 2019. With the attorney-general’s advice, coupled with a nudge to the Police to do the needful to enforce obedience, the Oyo government was well and truly worsted. It was the triumph of one bully (the police, as part of the federal security architecture); over the other (the governor, that figured he could, with executive whims and caprices, scatter and gather local government, as His Excellency wishes). Not so!

Still, it must be said: good sense prevailed on January 28. The elected chairmen and councillors appeared to have duly resumed their truncated terms. That was far better than frontal confrontation, that could have left everyone bruised.

You were even at a point of commending the Oyo authorities for executive nobility when they emerged with another legal legerdemain — a court injunction to freeze the victorious parties from enjoying the fruits of their victory. Wow, wow, that was the judicial equivalent of a military ambush! Shorn of all its legalistic foam, it’s another stonewalling, hiding behind legal procedures — vexatious, to the elected councillors but hardly a crime, until the court rules one way or another.

But, that trickery has forced Governor Makinde on foxtrot, pushing a charm offensive. The other day, he was reported on a sortie to the Inspector-General of Police. Hear the touring governor: “I came to brief the Inspector-General of Police that this is the situation. We do not want chaos in Oyo State. I am a law-abiding person — hear! hear! — if there is a court judgment, I will obey.”

That was an excellent piece of gubernatorial cant, if ever there was one! After all the empty verbal grandstanding , what was clear was a governor desperately waiting on executive fiat — or put more brazenly, force — to stonewall an extant judgment, while gambling on a future judgment! Crafty, isn’t that?

But only the governor and his co-partisans are taken in. No future judgment can erase the crux: no governor can sack elected chairmen and councillors. So, the cup of compliance will not pass over the errant government. All the governor can do is buy time. But the longer he does that, the longer governance at the grassroots is buried under a thick, dark legitimacy cloud.

Not a few have made a meat of the federal attorney-general throwing the state government into a whirr because of his advisory, which came with the notice to the Police to do the needful. Indeed, the optics of that, in a federal state, is awful.

Still, wouldn’t that be delving into ego, leaving the substance of the matter? If the governor had self-corrected, after doing the wrong thing, would the federal AG have intervened, on a matter as clear as democratic local governments, clearly entrenched in the 1999 Constitution?

And just imagine if the governor had the Police to enforce his clear outlawry, in this case? He probably would have turned up his nose, stamped his foot, and barked: Supreme Court, my foot! Such intransigence arms those dead set against state police.
