EPISODE 9

We got to an eatery besides a classroom block that belonged to the department of mass communication. I sat down, kossi pulled up a seat and sat besides me. I ordered for meat pie and soya milk for the both of us. Kossi looked at me with a wide grin on his face.
“i swear you be correct guy” he said as he opened the cover of the soy drink. I frowned as i Picked my meat pie removing it from its package.
“Guy u go vomit all these things if i no see this girl” i said biting into the pie and sipping the drink with a straw.
“Bro chillax, you go soon confirm” he said
“okay o” i said looking around the environment and admiring the girls around. We soon got through with our snacks and sat there eagerly looking around. Kossi was busy greeting his course mates who came around, girls mostly.
I looked at my watch and the time was 4:36 pm. I had forgotten totally about the lecture i was supposed to be attending. I looked impatiently at kossi who was busy handling with his phone.
“Guy, what’s up nah? Make e no be say i miss my lecture and come miss this girl too o” i said.
“Chill nah guy. She go soon show up” he said still focused on his phone. I grabbed the phone from him, he looked up to protest but rather broke into a big smile looking in the direction of the classroom block. I followed the direction of his eyes and there stood my dream queen. She was gorgeous as ever, she was on a red fitted gown and black sneakers, her hair was braided. She hid her eyes behind sunshades. My heart was on the verge of running out of my chest. I was sweating or maybe i thought i was. For what seemed to me like a lifetime, i sat there staring at her as she stood near the classroom. I was jolted back to reality when kossi snatched back his phone. I stood up and was about to rush at her but was pulled back by kossi.
“Guy chillax” he said motioning me to sit down.
“For what nah? ” I asked spreading my hands.
“cool down and watch” he said. I sat down reluctantly still staring at him with a deep frown.
He looked at me with a grin.
“Just watch” he said looking back in her direction.
I looked back to her position. A black Toyota camry pulled up a little distance from where she stood. She walked to the car and got in and the car drove away.
“See, you for go disgrace your self now” kossi said as he picked his books and stood up. I was really disappointed as many thoughts flew through my mind. Kossi pulled me up and we left the canteen. I was really downcast as we walked back to our lodge. Kossi wasn’t helping matters as he was busy suggesting how i could get a car better than the camry to impress her.
“But kossi come” i said as we got to the junction that led to our logde.
“so you made me miss my lecture, made me buy you free lunch just so you can show Me my crush’s boyfriend and his car?” i asked as i bent down and removed my right sneaker. Kossi laughed and broke into a run. I threw the sneaker after him as he ran into our lodge, it landed on Ada who was just coming out of the gate.

EPISODE 8

“How long have you been Standing there?” I asked stella
“I just came in to see a big smile on your face while you slept, tell me, did you win a lottery in your dream?” She asked as she sat on the bed close to me adjusting her hair. She looked quite attractive that afternoon. I sighed and scratched my head “Bae it’s nothing, just had an enticing dream”
“Tell me about it” she said caressing my bare back.
“Well i dreamt i was banging you really hard” I said jumping up from the bed laughing as she threw a pillow at me. She hissed and laid back on the bed, i went over to her and lay beside her, brought her closer and planted my lips on hers. She was calm as we smooched for as long as 40 seconds and she pulled away. I fell flat on my back and stared at the ceiling. Stella was beside me but Eva was on my mind.

"Tochi look at the time” she said after a few seconds of silence. I looked at the wall clock and it was 2:23pm, i remembered our 3pm lecture and jolted up from the bed.
“Its like your dream made you forget you had a class” she said looking at me as i grabbed my towel.
“Babe once its about you, i tend to forget every other thing” I said tying the towel round my waist. She kept mute and just stared at me like she needed to learn what i was doing.
“Look away jare lemme change” i said rolling my eyes at her.
“Nothing new joor, I have seen bigger” she said waving her hand and looking the other way.
“Mumu girl” I said and threw my boxers at her and ran into the bathroom.

The time was 2:40pm. I held Stella’s hand as we both strolled leisurely to our department for the proposed lecture. I heard someone call my name from afar. I turned and saw kossi walking up to where we were. Stella disengaged her hand and moved a little distance from me as kossi got closer. He waved at her and faced me.
“Guy hafar nah?” He asked as we shook hands.
“Bro i dey o. I wan tidy one 3pm lecture like that” i said looking at my watch.
“Ok ok, i get gist for you shaa” he said with a smack on his face while rubbing his palms together.

"Guy you too like gist, no waste my time with any irrelevant story abeg as you see say my sweetheart dy wait for me” i said and looked towards stella who smiled and looked away.
“Mumu na about that fair girl wey you carry her pen that day for medicals” he said licking his lips. I stared at him for a while and asked him how he knew i took pen from anyone at all.
“Guy i was there that day nah, just that your romance with her no gree you see me” he said nodding towards stella.
“Guy forget am shaa, abeg gist me about the girl, how i go take contact her”
“Guy na small matter, the babe na my department she dy” he said
“You mean mass comm” i asked folding my hands
“Yes nah, na im i been wan tell you but its like you dey busy and i no wan waste your time” he said slowly turning around to walk away. I held his cloth and pulled him back.
“Guy no vex abeg, waste my time biko, yarn me the gist” i said
“Oya nah, make we shift small” he said walking away. I turned to stella and winked at her.
“Bae just go ahead without me, i will be there soon”
She said ok and left while i ran after kossi.

Politics / Violence: Why There Is Anger, Fear In Kaduna –bishop by Toriperisc: 6:23am On Jul 15, 2019
Secretary General, Anglican Communion Worldwide and Chairman Kaduna State Peace Commission, Bishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon has said there is too much hatred, anger and fear among citizens of Kaduna state due to ignorance, fuelled by segregation along religious and ethnic lines.

Bishop Idowu-Fearon noted that such mutual suspicion makes people disagree on common issues that do not necessarily need to bring about violence.

Bishop Idowu-Fearon, who addressed a joint graduation ceremony for certificate and diploma graduands of Kaduna Centre for the Study of Christian-Muslim Relations in Kaduna at the weekend, said: “There is too much hatred in Kaduna State; we so hate each other. That is why we are not making too much progress”.

He called for more opportunities for citizens of different ethnicity and religion to meet and discuss.

He also said although education is a powerful tool to change the world and a premise to progress, “we also know that education is a lengthy and ongoing process. It does not happen overnight. It requires commitment, investment, sustainability and cooperation.

“Ignorance and all that comes with it – anger, fear, hatred, and conflict – happens because we separate ourselves from those that we disagree with and from the ‘other.’ We might do this out of concern for ourselves–that if we are seen to be speaking with someone who is the ‘other’ that it will damage our reputation with our own communities. But this also happens because of fear and sometimes hatred.

“These are things that we must also work against. And we must resist this temptation to separate ourselves from those who are different and with whom we disagree.

“We must engage in activities together. It is not enough to simply have knowledge and understanding in your head. You must also practise what you learn. Religious leaders can set a good example in engaging in activities with leaders from the ‘other’ religion. These examples must be encouraged at all levels, from the top down to children in schools. There is much to do, and education alone cannot solve our problems. But where we see progress, we find encouragement. We have made progress here in this Centre since it was founded 15 years ago. Many people have left this place transformed, committed to making progress and to being peace builders for our communities.”

Kaduna Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, said although the state has witnessed many crises due to differences, there is a policy guideline in place, on the interpretation of religion, and added that teaching and propagating the message through the right channel will reduce the challenges.

A former governor of the state, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi said peace is vital and a key denominator to everybody. He urged the graduands to practice what they learn.

Politics / Buhari Doesn’t Care Much About Governance -odinkalu by Toriperisc: 6:11am On Jul 15, 2019
Professor Chidi Odinkalu is former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and currently the senior team manager for the Africa Programme of Open Society Justice Initiative. He says President Buhari having won the 2019 presidential election feels vindicated that he has accomplished his ambition and therefore cares less about governance. He also spoke on other national issues

More than one month after President Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated for his second term; there is no cabinet in place. In 2015, it took the president six months to swear-in ministers, perhaps because he was just coming in, though that should not be an excuse having contested severally. After four years in power, why is it so difficult choosing a cabinet?

I am not able to divine the president’s mind nor am I able to understand it. A second term doesn’t happen by accident. He campaigned for it. The election took place on 23 April. It’s well over 40 days since the inauguration and nearly 30 days since his June 12 re-do of inauguration. My view is that the president doesn’t care much about governance. His trophy was the pursuit of power not the use to which it is put. He has already won and feels vindicated. So he had no need to seek to perform or care about performing. That is the tragedy of where we are. It is sad because Nigeria’s problems and structural fundamentals impose a sense of urgency that seems lost on the President Buhari and all the folks around him.

Some have also argued that despite the cabinet not being in place, government is running, as such the country appears not to have suffered any loss as a result of this. Do you agree?

You can see it everywhere. There are both real and institutional-intangible costs. Take the example of protection of Nigerians overseas. That is ordinarily the remit of the Foreign Affairs minister. You may have seen or read about the letter by the Anambra State Government to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation about the case of Mrs. Uju Ndubuisi, the Deputy DG of the Chartered Institute of Insurance of Nigeria (CIIN), who was killed in a South African hotel while attending a conference there. The governor complained in his letter that the South Africans were taking advantage of the absence of a Foreign Affairs minister in Nigeria to not treat the case with the seriousness it deserves. That is the kind of consequence we are talking about. Take the RUGA controversy too: the architects of RUGA planted it deliberately in an interregnum in which there are no ministers, seeking to take advantage of an institutional vacuum in government. President Buhari has normalised sclerosis as a form of government and Nigerians have gone into sleep mode about it. You will see, when he comes out with a list of ministers, his paid Vuvuzela will hail him to the highest heavens. We no longer have any expectations of how things should be done.

Before the murder of Mrs Ndubuisi, Nigerians in South Africa have continued to suffer xenophobic attacks even when a full complement of government agencies was in place. So is the absence of a minister really to blame? We have a Nigerian Diaspora Commission headed by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, is the problem not more of an absence of a foreign policy thrust that puts the citizens first?

As I pointed out, the Anambra State Governor, Willy Obiano himself said the South Africans may be treating Uju’s killing with levity because of the absence of a Foreign Affairs minister. Those are not my words. If a governor believes so, then, that perception exists. Of course, the idea is not that a Foreign Affairs minister will become some private juju accompanying every Nigerian in South Africa wherever they go and protecting them in some ritual form against physical or other threats to their existence. It is that the Foreign Affairs minister is the entity through which a sovereign country exercises the obligation to protect its citizens wherever they are. A Diaspora Commission is no substitute for a Foreign Affairs minister. On the contrary, it needs a Foreign Affairs minister to be effective. That is just how these things work.

What calibre of people do you think should be appointed into the Federal Executive Council (FEC)?

That is really not my bailiwick. The constitution is clear about the basic qualifications of people to be appointed into the cabinet. But one thing is clear: sainthood is not a requirement for ministerial appointment. The president in 2015 told us he was looking for saints in his cabinet. He failed to find them and ended up recycling the same names he could have named from his first day. I don’t expect much to change this time.

The president stresses so much on his anti-corruption agenda. It was a core of his first term and indications are that it will be in this second term. But the irony is that the country still ranks very high on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by Transparency International. What could be responsible?

Please spare me, in my books there isn’t much of an anti-corruption crusade. What exists is not much different from what transpired before now, a selection of tainted political opponents for the purpose of scoring political points. That is why this remains the president’s own ‘anti-corruption crusade’ not a crusade by Nigerians and for Nigerians. Take a look at Okoi Obono-Obla’s so-called Asset Recovery Panel, it has been ruled that it is unlawful by the courts but it is still running. Mr. Obono-Obla, who appears to have impersonated someone for his High School qualifications and who should himself be the focus of an anti-corruption prosecution, is rather running an unlawful detention centre from an office block allocated by government, collecting money from people and discrediting government. But he had high patrons in high places and his egregious reign of impunity continues unabated.

You said earlier that the architects of RUGA exploited a vacuum in governance to plant the programme, how do you mean?

I have made myself adequately clear on this. The RUGA programme was a terrible idea invented by some shadowy figures without consultation to fleece the public purse and endanger national coexistence. It’s a travesty that they found a way to blame the Federal Ministry of Justice for it. That is an awful lie. The ministry had nothing to do with RUGA. The originators of RUGA know who they are. Neither Audu Ogbeh nor Heineken Lokpobiri had anything to do with it. On the contrary, the ministry had spent over three years working with the vice-president and the National Economic Council (NEC) to put together the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), which is everything that the RUGA is not. How would the ministry go to undermine itself after all that work by getting up to this RUGA thing? That is just not what happened.

You described RUGA as a tale of corruption and sleaze. What do you mean by that?

Yes I did. I still do. I have explained myself. There are some things I cannot disclose here but I said so. And I meant to say so.

The National Livestock Transformation Plan among other things talks about resettlement of people displaced by reoccurring clashes. But interest groups in states of the South are equally kicking against it. Why?

I think you may have misunderstood the NLTP. The NLPT has six pillars, which include Humanitarian, Administration of Justice, Conflict Transformation, Economic Investment, and Cross Cutting Issues. It does not propose compulsory acquisition of land. The model of investment it proposes is ranching and it is to be deployed through private investment. To begin with, it also proposes recovering existing Grazing Reserves, beginning with the Gazetted ones. There are over 415 such reserves in the 19 northern states. Indeed, there are four in the FCT alone, all of them gazetted, and about 68 in Adamawa, of which 37 are gazetted. There is already a lot of land that can be put to use for pilot phase of the proposals in the NLTP. By the way, unlike RUGA, the NLTP has been fully examined by the National Economic Council with all governors present and approved by all of them unanimously. That should tell you something. The underlying principles of the plan are voluntarism, consent and variable geometry. There is not central dictation in the plan.

EPISODE 7

She was dressed on a dark blue skinny jeans trouser with a white singlet on top. Over the singlet she wore a grey hooded long sleeve shirt. Her hairs were partly covered by the hood as some of it ran down a part of her face covering a bit of her eyes. Her face shone like the mid morning sun only out shined by the glitter of her lovely eyes. In summary, she was to die for.
A thousand thoughts ran through my mind as i let her in. I just stared at her as she stood there. Michael Jacksons speechless kept ringing in my head. Only then i came to realize what he meant in that song.
“Hi” she said waving like i wasn’t seeing her.
“Sorry, forgive my manners, please sit down” i said pointing towards the only settee in the room.
She walked to the bed and sat on it disregarding the chair. I sat on the bed too keeping a little distance between us. I stared at her and she stared back. She appeared calm which is more than I can say about myself. We stared on for like 20 seconds but to me it seemed like a lifetime. Then she looked away staring around at the room
“Nice room” she said jostling me back to reality.
“Thank you” i said trying to calm my nerves. “How were u able to locate where i lived?” I asked her.
“Hmmm, i asked around and it turned out a lot of people knew you” she said.

And what did you ask about?” I asked really glad we were making a conversation
“Hmmm, actually i asked about a certain tall fair guy that barbs galaxy which he usually forgets to comb with a little hair on his chin ” she said touching her head and chin in a funny way. We both laughed.
” But its true naa” she said in between laughter.
” But some people think the hair is cute” i replied looking into her eyes
” well i never said it wasn’t cute, i was only trying to say i could borrow you my hair comb if yours is not ok too” she said smiling.
“Oh, its true, your pen” i said getting up and walked to our reading table and picked up the pen. I tried giving it to her,
“No, you can keep it, i just wanted to know where you lived and don’t get flattered by that please” she smiled at me
I said thanks and smiled back.
“I’m going” she said and got up.
“Thanks for coming” i said touching her hand. As she headed for the door i called her eva, she stopped and looked back. I walked up to her, looking in her eyes i asked “can we be friends?” I asked nervously.
“I don’t pay my enemies visits” she said half smiling
I held her hands and pulled her closer gently… “I meant this…” I said and put my lips against hers. She didn’t resist. We kissed as long as 5 seconds and she withdrew her lips and headed towards the door as i watched with the greatest joy i had ever known in my heart.
“I’m going, and don’t bother walking me out, you look like something straight out of a ghost dream ” she said as she walked out of the door.
I crashed on the bed and shut my eyes, my lips broke into a big smile.
I thought i heard someone walk into the room, i tried opening my eyes but everywhere was blurred. I closed my eyes again, rubbed my hands against them and opened them again, i saw stella.
“Why are you smiling in your sleep” she said looking down at me on the bed
“F--k!!” I said and jumped up. Jesus!, another Eva dream, i thought angrily and looked up at stella.

Her mouth was sealed, she could not walk, she sat down at the spot, pick her phone, and called her mother. Chukudi drove in and was surprised seeing ifeoma like this, ife, what happened to you? EPISODE 6

Two days gone and i haven’t seen my dream Eva neither has she seen her pen. The thoughts going through my mind all those while was that i could have taken her number. D--n! I don’t even know her real name. I hardly smiled much. It was funny how much of an effect this Eva girl had on me. Someone i dont even knw her name. I had strolled the lengths and breath of the schools medical hoping she would come back there. I missed her even though i had only seen her twice, thrice actually if i were to count in my dream. I began planning on making a poster with my name and number on it asking Eva to call for her pen.
“Guy unto say wetin happen? Dont come here and be disgracing your family because of a girl” Martin had said to me as i told him my plans about the poster thing.
“She doesn’t even know my name” i said absent minded looking into space
“Tochi its like you no hear wetin i talk?” Martin asked. I looked at him with a frown on my face “so how do i locate her?” I asked
“Use Google map” he said getting up from the bed we were sitting on and picking his bag.
“Guy i get lectures now, give me that girl’s pen make i use am jott since you no wan keep am” he said looking down at me. I looked up with half a smile on my face and said ” Give you p---y, na your joystick you go use write today” he gave me a slight jab on my chin and walked out of the room laughing.
“Mumu, I know say you don kiss the pen to stupor because na girl get am” he said amidst laughter as he left. I smiled and fell back on the bed. I picked my phone and checked the time. It was 10:05 am, i decided to catch some sleep as i had one lecture by 3pm.
I lay across the bed and not long after i drifted off to sleep.
Someone knocked on the door, i tilted and looked in the direction of the door, the knock came again, i said come in and waited for about 5 seconds. The person knocked again. I grudgingly got up and walked to the already open door, pulled the curtains aside and across the little corridor locked by a burglary proof, Eva stood staring back at me.

EPISODE 7 by www.toriperi.com

John impregnated Adama, mama cried out. John how could you do this? John has been the most faithful husband that every lady wanted to have. He is the incomparable type. Ifeoma went down on hearing this. Ifeoma, Ifeoma!! Mama shouted, left john for her daughter... Ifeoma regained her conscious in the general hospital. Mama, what happened, how did I get here? Her sentence was unusual, it seemed something has entered her brain. The doctor announced, pls ma, you need to take her to psychiatric. It is beyond us. John could not come back to the hospital since mama wanted to eat him. He left his house too to lodge in hotel where he's enjoying his life. He called Adama to pack and join him. After a while that she failed to come, he called a friend to check on her at home. The friend came back to him, told him she was nowhere to be found. That, he was told she packed and left the house.
Friend: to be candid, I didn't know why I need to help you on this matter. How could you do such a terrible thing?
John: forget, this is my life. I don't want anybody question me how to live my life.
Friend: you shouldn't have asked for my help. In fact, if my wife gets to know this, she will kill me.
John: kill you? You mean a lady kill you?
Friend: of course, I cannot afford see my wife sad. In fact, she has upper hand in my house than myself.
John: who on earth does that?
Friend : well, that's my life. What do you plan to do with the hullabaloo you have put yourself into?
John: I just want to see Adama. I think I'm in love with her.
Friend: aren't you ashamed, Your in-law?
John: don't you know it is better this way, I never committed adultery, it happened within the family. And, maybe because their family is sweet.
Friend: pls take me out of your life. (He stood up, as he was walking away) it will be better if you can change, I mean repent for you have done the most disgusting thing on earth.

.. Adama knew so well of the detriment which her action has brought to her sister. She packed her load and went away to another town. She sent her mum message not to search for her nor worry. She has decided to stay away and take care of the baby... Ifeoma got better and healthy after a month. She left John for good with her son. When she was still in the psychiatric hospital, a week before her discharge, she met a man who often visited the hospital for helping the poor patient financially. This man did so much for her. He often called her even after she has been discharged. Ifeoma had already told him her story. He collected her apartment far from John street. And ever since she never heard from her sister. One afternoon, this man visited her, he told her he never married for the past two years he lost his wife and will like if ifeoma could consider him. I need time pls, she said. Yes, I know you need time, pls let me know whatever you have to say. And I promise I will never change irrespective of your decision; either you accept to marry me or not...

A very stupid fellow, you think you can hold me back, your hundred is not enough to handle me. Useless idiot, next time I come here if you stand on my way, I will smack you down with my single blow. Maybe you have never told I was once a fighter... Ifeoma and her visitor stood up to see who it was, before they could reach the door, the person has already entered her sitting room, Jesus! John! What are you... you in my house? Get out! She exclaimed. John prostrate before her, pleading for forgiveness. Who is this? Her visitor asked. You mean this one on the ground? (she pointed to John) he called himself my husband. This is the man that ruined my life and my family. She replied. ok, he said, I think this is family matter, let me excuse you guys. He left the house and drove off. You see, that is Chukudi, my savior, my helper who stood by me when there was trouble, you have come to send him away again... By the way, how did you get here and why are you here? Please my love... Stop! She shouted on him, how dare you called me love. I will... Ifeoma, you know I love you, and I want you to know, everything that happened was never intentional. I never meant to hurt you. I plead, my... My... My... If you ever call me that again, hmm, devil himself will patronise your life. Now, get up and leave my house, security! She called. Ifeoma, it was all works of the devil. You know I cannot sleep with your sister... You must be the devil himself, she cut in, how could it be work of the devil, o! So it was devil too that gave you my address... (The security entered)... Fine, why did you permit this man into my house, ehn, you have connection with him right. Ma, he knelt down, he forced the gate opened, he even slapped me and rained curse on my generation... I don't want to care, if you still want to continue your business here, take him out now... She left John and the security struggling together and went into her room...

Tell your boss, I will leave her house, and I will be back. My son is still in that house....
